UPDATED 2/1/2011 [ROM] [Sense 2.2.1 Froyo] ChocolateFroyo v1.0-rel2 - Go Sense - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

THIS ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED ANYMORE FOR AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME.
This is a 2.2 Sense ROM. Unfortunately, it still has two bugs, but even so it is usable, stable and fast.
ATTENTION! For those who already have 1.0-rel1 flashed, make sure you backup your data because flashing the ROM will wipe data even if you don't do it from recovery.
Note: There will be no other update until the Camera is fixed. Also, don't expect any updates in the next 1-2 weeks.
See post #2 for changelog and critical information.

What does not work:
- Camera
- Bluetooth audio WITH SOME DEVICES
Just so you know, I'm working hard to fix those issues, so don't panic, this will be updated soon. You might help me find other bugs if you test it. I can guarantee that if you don't need the camera, this ROM can work as an everyday ROM just fine.
What works:
- flash 10
- EXT-A2SD
- Calls, SMS, MMS
- Internet 2G/3G
- WiFi
- GPS/AGPS
- OpenGL
- lights
- accelerometer, sensors
- wired/wireless tethering
... everything else
+ Teeter - I've packed it so you can have a bit of fun?
Instructions:
Flash it and make a cup of coffee because the first boot takes AGES. Don't panic, it will eventually start ).
The custom kernel included is compiled from Erasmux's FlyKernel 12a. I've just enabled my dual-governor configuration and made the changes required by that. Nothing much, so credits to him.
Credits also go to the CDMA Hero devs which made this in the first place.

READ!!!
1.0-rel2
- fixed lights
- cleaned system - boots faster, runs smoother
- adjusted dalvik heapsize
- added custom kernel with dual-governor configuration(read below for more info)
1.0-rel1
Initial release
About the Dual-Governor configuration:
The default settings are: 352/691 ondemand screenon, 176/352 conservative screen off. This way the battery is conserved while the performance is at its best when you need it. If your phone can't run @691MHz, all you have to do is download the attached file, unzip it, and edit it as following:
echo 691200 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
Click to collapse
This line tells the kernel what's the max frequency when the screen is on. Here you can edit with one of the following values:
518400
576000
614400
633600
652800
672000
691200
Click to collapse
After you edit it accordingly, save it and push the file to /system/etc/init.d:
adb remount
adb push 90governor /system/etc/init.d
adb reboot
Click to collapse
Now you're good to go!

F**k yeah!

Please man, try to fix the camera

That's what I'm doing, don't panic.

No problem m8 , I won't
Could you guys post linpack and neocore results?

Does the old style Apps2SD work in this (the one with an EXT partition)?

No, it does not, even though I've included it.

What a pity Is there a way to fix it?

Go for it RaduG!
Running CE 2.0 for ages!
Thanks.

you're a good guy Radu, I'm so happy to see you back to work on the hero
This will be a lot of fun!

BT audio works on Sengle, if that helps you somehow.
About the camera I really have no ideas, to solve it on ASOP/CM they needed to backport the camera interface from eclair - something you can't do on Sense cause you don't have sources. This is what made me give up.
I really hope you can get this working, because I think no one else is working on these issues.
Good luck.

Thanks for the A2DP tip
As for the camera, I've got to the point where the image is clear, but it does not refresh(although it doesn't behave like that with the uploaded version). So I'm pretty confident that with a bit of work I will fix it eventually.
I hope you don't mind that I'm using your kernel.

Is there a difference between this rom and these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838730
I guess yes , but what makes this rom different?

Is this ROM Legend port?

Aw, crap. I just posted how stable and good (perfect) Floyo 1.2.0 was and now you went and released yours, lol.
Back-up and here I come.
I'm going to backup to my sd card and save it and start fresh with a new card. Hopefully that way I can restore quicker and without any hicups.
Thanks RaduG

@GZFan
I don't know how that ROM works, but from the description I can tell you that the GPS is not working there. Otherwise I have no idea, as I haven't tried it.
@tomekk_nt
It's an Aria/Legend/Hero hybrid.

Anyone can port sense hd from desire hd or it is impossible?

RaduG is building it, the man behind vanillaEclair 4 (still imho the most flawless and responsive rom for the hero, old though it may be), vanillaEclair 5 (newer sourcecode than ve4, better than the other roms based on those same sources, not quite as good as ve4 though on my particular phone), and chocolateEclair 2 (a wonderful 2.1 sense rom that many feel is best of breed on the hero). He knows how to assemble and mess with the code in hero android roms exceptionally well and has a longer success rate with single-handed rom creation on the gsm hero than anyone else that I'm aware of.
This is all just my personal opinion and experience; I don't actually know the guy (hey Radu ;-)
Aside from that, literal differences are that he's building it himself based on some cdma stuff so will be undoubtedly bringing in different sources, and probably difference bits of sense executable stuff, to try and get things like camera working. Oh yea, and as noted he's actually working on this rom actively where the rom you linked to was great but is now abandoned due to a feature implementation stalemate and work on other time-consuming exciting projects by the same developer.

So uhm are there any real differences? Or am I just plain stupid and miss them. 5.2 is good enough for everyday use as well....
Note: this is not meant to be rude or anything. It's allways good to see more devs
Man, it's nice to see new faces, but you're not bringing anything new to the table, just a "rehash" of someone's ROM.
Like someone once wrote, proficiency with winzip doesn't make you a dev, and it's sad to see ppl just playing around with winzip, adding a few apks, changing a few lines and posting "new stuff".
I wanted to look the other way, just like I did with the other new "chefs", but hey, guy, you even had the very good idea to add a donate link to your sig., not even reaching 10 posts!
Unless you bring something new, I don't think it's a good idea to post, since it's just spam.
That might come in handy for you: "innovation, not imitation"
I didn't say it is brand new stuff. As I mentioned in the first post, it's based on Vanillain ROM. If you try my version and the original version you'll definately see a difference in both speed and stability.
Really, I don't think this is as useless as you might consider it. Maybe I'm not the only 'vanilla android' fan around here looking for a stable release.
What's with the attitude people... He posted a ROM he thinks is good and he wants to share his work, even if it's not *NEW*...
Download or don't download but give him a break... let people try and feedback, maybe you'll find he didn't just "zip" the ROM...
RaduG thanks for your work and share. I'm into Sense UI so I won't be trying this but again, thanks for sharing!
Ok so here it goes.
Just did a restart after setup and it is fast but switching between screens i a bit slow (will give it some more time). The launcher has only 3 screens "helix" I think you could use a different one.
Oh and the 3G watchdog could be an option. It is useful but i bet not all people would like it.
At the and of the day i think this is a great ROM. Stable and ready to be used as an everyday ROM
Thanks for your feedback.
I've tested different launchers available and the HelixLauncher included in this ROM is the most stable in my oppinion. I will wait for more feedback and if you users like it I will take the apps you don't like out.

It's not a matter of software being new, but seriously, just how many rehashes of base roms shared by other devs were posted?
How many "chefs" DID compile their own custom overlay of aosp?
In fact, nprussel was using mine for quite some time, but didn't react since he really has contributed a lot in these forums; in fact, I'd congratulate him.
Apart from some additional apks, I don't see anything new in here (same old bugs, "features" of other roms based on the leaks)
The one thing that really ticked me off, is the "audacious" donate link for what is, let's face it, a rip atm.
I've taken it off since you first posted. You're somehow right, but i really don't think this is useless. I'm 100% sure this is the most stable Android 2.1 you can download on the forum ATM. Since it is an improvement and i've given credits to the source, i don't think there is a real issue.
Still waiting for feedback.
Could not get it to work, did a full wipe, then flashed.
Then it boots and every single thing that starts crashes: 'sorry ... setup stopped unexpectedly'
I have the latest radio.
Managed to mount my sdcard between all the error screens luckily, so I'll put another ROM onto my phone in 5 minutes.
Strange, a few users tested and everything worked perfect. Please try a full wipe after install and post results. Thanks.
Going to check it.
This is my third rom, so I should now more or less how to install it, but what do you mean with wipe after install? My actions, in order:
put zip on sd card
boot in recovery
wipe whatever I can wipe (system and cache, I do not have an ext partition so no point wiping that)
flash
boot
so which step then?

[ROM][Vanilla 2.1]VanillaEclair 3.0 "Sugar Energy" [READ POST]

As some of you know, I have encountered some problems while developing this ROM. Some very bad problems actually. Even though I've managed to fix them, it's not enough for me. The only way we can all enjoy VanillaEclair at the moment is to use 3.0, which has the most stable kernel yet, but unfortunately I haven't got the sources anymore.
I will continue my work on the OTA updater, on the kernel, on the framework and on A2DP. Also, I want to improve the VanillaEclair website, so that it can be a useful tool for us all. As I'm working alone, I can't do many things at a time. So please understand that this little break has a good reason behind.
Below you can find the links to VanillaEclair 3.0. If you want something more functional, I suggest you try MaXo64's aHero 1.0. I really do understand that you need a functional phone, and I am exactly in the same position, since the Hero I'm using for development is my everyday phone.
The ETA of VanillaEclair 3.3 is Sunday the 6th. Please post here for apps suggestions, feature requests and wish me luck! Cheers!
DOWNLOAD VanillaEclair 3.0
VanillaEclair 3.2 "Let me put a smile on that face" is the latest VanillaEclair build. For those of you who didn't flash the previous versions, this is the fastest and most stable vanilla 2.1 out here.
NOTE: From 3.1 I won't be supporting any issues if you're using JIT. If you're using it I assume that you are an experienced user. This ROM gives you enough performance, and you won't feel a performance boost after flashing JIT anywhere else than Linpack.
See posts #2 and #3 for more info related to the ROM. Discussions about 3.2 start from here.
Based on the latest 2.6.29 sources, provided by behnaam. Thanks.
Changelog:
- fixed battery issues
- added a few modules
- fixed auto brightness(it seems that this works only for newer phones)
- added EXT4 support
I would also like to say thanks to all users that have been reporting bugs, creating bootanimations and posting fixes. You have helped me improve this! You are great!
For info regarding overclocking, battery and such read posts #2 and #3.
Features:
- GPS & A-GPS
- 100% working youtube
- 100% working camera
- 100% working gallery
- facebook sync(100%)
- busybox
- root
- a quite large APN list
- VPN
- HUGE performance
Benchmark results * without JIT, [email protected]:
- Linpack: 3.35MFolps
- Neocore with sound: 30.1FPS
- Neocore without sound: 33.3FPS
Issues:
- A2DP(will be fixed soon)
If you're not using A2SD, you might get an insufficient storage error when trying to install apps from market. You can fix that in two ways:
1. wipe again after flashing the ROM
2.
adb shell
chown system.system /data/app
Click to collapse
What's next?
- OTA updater after everything is 100% stable (if you can help me please let me know)
- A2DP, button lights
- backport BFS
- froyo
Because of the bad battery life and some other problems, I've decided to take the link down for the moment. The updated fixed version will be available tomorrow, the 1st of June. Sorry for the inconvenience.

HOW TO OVERCLOCK - noob-friendly tutorial with recommended settings.
Experienced users might use other settings.
1. Download OverclockWidget from Market (it's free)
2. Put the widget on your screen and make sure you allow it when the Super User permission request comes up(also check the remember option).
3. Reboot
4. Tap it once and select Advanced Setting
5. Check Differ Freq Screen off
Recommended settings:
Screen on: min- 691200 max- 691200
Screen off: min- 245760 max- 245760
6. Check auto start on boot and press save.
Notes:
- overclocking gives you a huge performance boost
- overclocking does not break your phone; it doesn't cause overheating
- overclocking will not affect your battery life(i've taken care of that)
Apps 2 SD FAQ:
1. How do I enable it?
It enables automatically is you have an EXT partition on your SDCARD.
2. Can I use EXT4?
No, sorry. Only EXT2/3 are supported at the moment.
3. What about dalvik cache?
Dalvik-cache is automatically moved on your EXT partition.
Battery tip
IF you're using VanillaEclair 3.1, you shouldn't need to recharge for about 3 days. If you can't get that much, follow the steps:
- wait until the battery is 5-10% left
- go to your recovery image and wipe battery status
- recharge your phone using the wall charger for 4-5 hours or so - you can leave it overnight
That's all!
More about Overclocking(for experienced users):
In VanillaEclair 3.1 I've included a wide range of frequencies that you can use. Here it is - Overclocking widget gets it automatically:
122880
160000
245760
352000
400000
480000
576000

691200
768000
806400

I've been able to run at 806MHz, but the phone got VERY hot and sometimes unresponsive. The highest save to run in daily use frequency is 768MHz, but not all phones can go that far!

To be honest, this is not tablet mode at all, it has nothing to do with silly build.prop hacks. This is the first and only Android rom to feature true Hybrid mode. This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even system components individually. Remember, android is modular, everything is an app: Lockscreen, navigationbar, dialogs, popups, keyboards, widgets, and your regular apps of course. Apps have the capability to switch into various designs or layouts according to the device they run on. This can result in a complete new experience as many apps will transform to the better. Now for every element that you like choose a mode (PhoneUI, Phablet/Nexus-7UI, TabletUI) and/or a size. You are 100% independent of the system DPI which runs nicely in whatever value it has been assigned to. You do not need to boot your phone into a certain DPI. Neither will most of the changes you apply require a reboot. You will not suffer from the myriads of troubles which normally haunt you under build.prop tablet mode. Your market, phone, etc. will all work, apps won't shrink on you unless you shrink them yourself.
This project will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the feel of your phone.

If you have an issue and you want to call our attention, here's what you do:
Try everything you can, find solutions for yourself. Wipe caches, revert all your settings you have made, go back to your stock Kernel, factory reset if you have to or reflash the rom. Assume that the issue is on your side and try your best to isolate it.
Search this thread and Cyanogenmods aswell (its our base) for possible reoccurences of your issue and hopefully solutions that may have come up.
If you think the issue is important enough that we should cease our work and look into it, post your issue, BUT ...
... stay friendly, do not demand anything, do not threaten
... explain your issue as precise as you can, name the exact apps and conditions that cause trouble, help us to replicate the issue right away. If we can't there's no way we can fix it and your post will simply clutter the thread
... collect evidence, keep in mind this is a developer thread so even if you are not one, do us the favor and research how to record logcat. logcat is the single most important help you can give us to resolve your issue.

The memory management was changed from ICS to JB, and with the camera libs being proprietary (Sony won't release source), a lot of work remains to make the camera work. However, on a positive note, we may be able to use libs from a different Xperia device as soon as Sony ships JB for one of them.
FWIW, camera aside, with the latest changes from FXP137 this rom runs very smooth and seems quite stable :silly:
Hope Sony releases them cause that is the only thing that is making me not flashing them
Is there any interest in a CM9 based version of Paranoid with a working camera? Or should I just put the project on hold until Sony releases JB camera drivers in the next couple months?

A couple months seem so far yet it seem so close. Hopefully, sony would release them in a few weeks. But seeing how the latest line of flagships are still ICS, it would be a miracle for them to release drivers anytime soon.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but is it possible for you to create an updated version of Paranoid with the newest build of CM10? It seems that the newest one finally has working camera.

Sorry, but no can do. I gave up on the phone and switched to a different one so I'd have no way to test...

[ROM][SGH-I847] AOKP-MR1 4.2.2 apache

DO NOT flash to the Galaxy W or Galaxy S+. This will not work on either device, and only on the SGH-I847 Rugby Smart
So, the next iteration in the AOKP development is finally ready for release:
I'm liking this ROM so far, it feels pretty fast. Using a kernel based on arco's 3.4 means I can keep it up to date with his work.
So far, this is stable, but not without issues:
- USB tethering feature is broken (kernel needs tweaking
- Camera is still broken (Kernel limitation)
- Video decoding (Media libs are messed up, breaks Youtube)
Tested and working:
- 3G data
- Mass Storage
- adb connection
- User switching ( switch is on landscape lockscreen, I'm looking at fixing this)
UPDATE: 9/5/13
-WiFi works (odd programming in 3.4)
- No more "stuck-in-speakerphone" (was missing a file)
UPDATE: 9/14/13
- WiFi tethering decided it wanted to work
- Bluetooth works great
I'm sure I'm missing stuff
Thanks to:
KemoNine - Getting me in to development in the first place
utkanos - the helpful hints along the way
arco68 - supplying a solid base kernel for me to work from
Team Codefire for hosting my projects and builds
Grumpyspud for pointing out the video bug
The rest of the users and supporters for the various things that helped
To Install, you must meet these criteria:
- Have a Samsung Rugby Smart
- Be using KemoNine96's 6.0.1.1 or newer CWM recovery or my TWRP builds
- Have GAPPS 4.2.2 in a flashable zip
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, accept the fact that I, as a developer, take no responsibility for damage to your device. Consider yourself warned.

Gapps information
For those that don't know about GAPPS
Installation is as easy as:
1. Download the zips, and transfer it to your device
2. Boot into recovery mode and select "install zip from sdcard"
3. Select "Choose zip from sdcard", find the ROM zip, then confirm the installation
4. Follow the same procedure for GAPPS
5.Enjoy the new ROM!
Experimental builds, explanations and other such things will go here.

It worked but needs some serious tweaking.

Because the hardware is so closely related and we don't have our own board. If you look around, the I847 is mentioned a few times.
Sweet
Dirty loading from 4.1.2 gave me issues (as expected) ... so don't do that

I managed to fix the wifi, new build going up later tonight. I'm still working on the speakerphone bug.
EDIT: WiFi and speakerphone are fixed
any progress on getting the camera to work?
great rom, keep up the good work!

Still looking at it.
Dude this ROM is extremely stable man. Awesome work.
Sent from my cellphone.
I noticed that myself... 4.2.2 seems to be incredibly efficient. My phone idled for 10 hours and was still at 92% when I got to it.
One thing I noticed is that background data kicks on for no reason, even if it's disabled.
smoothest rom for this phone i have seen thus far. I was on CM10 for a few days got choppy from time to time, this one is the best just needs camera! :fingers-crossed:
OP updated with a bug found by grumpyspud. Fortunately it's stable enough for daily use .
OP has the 8th's file in the database.
I found the bug on the 9th... Did you just forget to name it 9/9?

It affects all builds, so tye timestamp is irrelevant. The one I did on the 8th was an experimental build if I remember right.
im not sure if i did something wrong or this is a bug but, when i go into snapchat or zedge it says "SD-card required for this application" it worked fine for CM10 and the phone is reading my SD card from the apps storage.

I know . It's a problem with the media libs.
I completely misread your post about me finding the bug. btw

[ROM][03-12-13] Andromadus - CM10.2 & CM11.0 - Vision

I guess you've been waiting for this for quite a long time.
So I felt I should upload at least something and stop keeping these builds secret.
Before we start...
This is unstable. VERY unstable, compared to my latest CM10.1 build.
By the way, I had to remove CM10.1 build environment because I have no space left on SSD. No more CM10.1 builds from me, sorry
On a positive note, this build has (compared to CM10.1):
Camera button options (wake/unlock/peek/playback control) — I put this feature upstream. Try it, it's cool
Flash sync is fine
KSM works again (it just magically fixed itself)
DSPManager doesn't suddenly get unloaded from memory and break your listening experience
Persian language for hardware keyboard. The whole hardware keyboard support has been reworked.
Newer Trebuchet, with live folders, icon pack support and other stuff
RAM is about 150 MBytes free with Theme Chooser enabled

How to install?
The usual process, nothing different here.
1: backup
2: wipe
3: install the ROM
4: install Google Apps. I prefer PA GApps "Mini Modular Packages".
How do I report bugs?
Now that's important.
I've set up an issue tracker to prevent cluttering this thread.
Keep in mind that a bug report without a logcat/dmesg or at least a precise description of a bug wouldn't help anyone.
If you stumble upon anything strange — try to reproduce it (and save a logcat, just in case).
Pro-tip: use "adb logcat -C" to colorize the output and make it easier to read! (not sure if this works on Windows, though)
Unfortunately, there are bugs that are caused by CM devs or Google (GApps are buggy, too). I'll close these bug reports, because I just can't fix that. I'm not a magician
Issues we already aware of:
EGL: flashy CRT animation (disable it) and buggy hwcomposer (icons/widgets suddenly blacked out is also caused by it). This was the major show-stopper.
Switching SELinux to Enforcing mode will instantly make the phone freeze. Don't do this!
Trackpad wake/unlock doesn't work, and there's no way to enable it. I use "pure" CM frameworks_base that doesn't have these features baked in.
Camcorder FCs when you try to un-pause video recording.
[Fixed] AOSP Keyboard FCs if you don't install GApps — install them
[Fixed] Mobile data is unstable — edit build.prop to fix the issue.
Issue you should be aware of: (non ROM-related)
Don't buy Samsung laptops, they have display hinges made of a sh*tty plastic.

Please don't make additional mirrors. Instead, ask me to mirror the file myself.
Why? I need to keep control of builds, and remove/replace them if something goes really wrong.
Kitkat?
While I still prepare my build environment for Kitkat and applying some patches to make it compile, you can have a build provided by guest1.
Initially, it was built purely for ringtone bug testing (factoid: every other htc msm7x30 device has ringtone shutting off randomly. I don't know why), but I think that'll do it for giving you an overview of what does CM11 look like at the moment.
This is even more unstable!
4.4 is also slower for some reason (probably because of different qcom_display repo used for it).
I did almost no tests with it, so there's probably a lot more to fix.
Google Drive link for 4.4: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5ahny5WGurFS1Z3N3N6V0xsSVk/edit?usp=sharing

Once this gets a tad more stable I am going to for sure try this out. I just flashed a fresh rom today and I'm trying to limit the fact I flash a rom at least 7-15 times a week (it's addicting, what can I say).
Re:[ROM] [14-11-13] Andromadus - CM10.2 - Vision
@NeverGone\RU you are a beast. Of course also thanks to @Flinny and the whole andromadus team. Does this use the same htc7x30 andromadus 3.x kernel as the previous builds?
Downloading now Btw hopefully I can get some logcats

Yeah, just a different branch (with SELinux enabled).
OMG!
OMG , I never expected KK for our device, btw i was too waited for this without any expectation
Once again thanking the guys who working on our devices :good:
great work Nevergone, thanks. I hope in some day we get Kitkat. I'm test it at this weekends.
great to see this, have downloaded and will give it a shot shortly. Have you, NeverGone, or have others, got an MD5 we could check against...I'm happy to post mine as a starting point:

Cool!
I'll wait for KK if I can...
I think, that we'll wait for kitkat for a long time yet... desire z isn't as famous as earlier, community is less and phones with HW qwerty as well.
BUT I'm a still faithful user and BIG THANKS for this great piece of rom and great work from devs! Thank you!
great news!!!! thanks hitted
Let's not clamor for Kitkat yet. The Galaxy S4 got a stable-ish build of Kitkat just a few days ago, and it'll take a while for unstable builds to come out from the official CM tree. When that happens, development will trickle down here.
I mean, I would like to maintain my always-faithful-if-slow backup phone. It's gotten me through some times when my other primary phones went dead on me.
I get server connection errors in the Google Play store with this ROM and the linked GApps. Is anyone else having this problem?
I can actually connect to the store fine, it's the downloading or updating of apps that it errors out on.

Go to settings --> Storage --> And I think there should be a cache storage size for the sd card+internal rom, clear those, sign out of your google account then sign back in! At least I think those are the steps, I can't fully recall
That did it! Thanks! In all the years I've had an android phone I've never had to do that after flashing a rom.

Yeah, from my research a few days ago on that problem it seems to be common in 4.3 roms for some unknown reason. I'm glad I could help!
I made an issue tracker.
That'd be easier to track bugs and get feedback without constantly quoting each other on forum pages. (because forums are linear)
I also decided to try to adapt some Sony/Samsung MSM7x30 changes. Maybe they've been more successful than we were?
If I were you, I would give up developing Android 4.3 and focus on preparing 4.4. But I am not a developer and I possibly don't know something so...
Anyway, thanks for making Android 4.3 happen on our Desire Z and good luck!
I will wait for 4.4 though.

Valid point.
The thing is, 4.4/CM11 is in early stage yet, and it will still need the same work I'm doing for 4.3 (plus, camera is broken on other MSM7x30 devices).
4.3 is at least able to boot
