ClockWorkMod 3.0 is out? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone mess around with the 3.0.0 version of ClockworkMod recovery?

I have but I haven't noticed anything different
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

it backs up wimax rsa keys and such, great update, now I won't rely on RA

Will there be any compatibility issues trying to flash nandroid backups made with 2.5.1.2?

3.0 is not working for me I can't flash in recovery?

It's only allowing me to recover gingerbread. I can't flash new roms either.

I just installed 3.0.0.2 and I havent tried any new ROM's or GB ROM's yet.
Post up some reviews of anyone thats tried

I wanna know if I can restore old backups for the earlier version of clockwork... I updated but haven't done anything yet.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Any one have the previous version???

I'm stuck too man. Won't even boot into recovery after flashing RA Recovery.

"gingerbread recovery" doesn't make any sense.
Recoverys aren't specific to whichever ROM you have installed.

Yeah come on. I have it and have flashed fresh and miui with it just fine. I even did a recover nandroid just to check if it was compatible with old nandroids and it worked fine.
P.S. I'm using 3.0.0.0

Not to be confused with the new version of Rom Manager which is... 3.0.0.2

It does if Gingerbread uses ext4 and previous Android versions do not. Especially if ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0 doesn't support the earlier file systems.

Two "ifs" in that sentence.
Just cause it may allow for the use of ext4 doesn't mean it's not backward compatible.

Being as it was released via Rom Manager for all, I would doubt that they would release something like that which isn't.

FYI for ClockWorkMod 3.0.0.5 for CM7

Just wanted to let everyone know that Rom Manager now has clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 for CM7 to be flashed thru rom manager now along with the older versions for android 2.2. So no more flashing via fastboot or terminal, all our flashing and rom jumping can be done much easier all thru Rom Manager. Thanks ClockWork!

No i haven't. Our phone are down at my shop so i have to do everything via my cell phone. and i cannot risk my phone being down that long. and with having 28+ phones lines coming in my building it's ringing off the hook.

Forgive my n00bness, but I am on 2.5.1.2 and can do all these things. I'm excited there's a new version out and I am very, very grateful for the hard work of those responsible. just wondering if I'm missing something...What all does 3.0.0.5 bring to the Glacier?

3.0.0.5 allows you to flash gingerbread based ROMs, basically CM7. According to @cmsrc on twitter today however, there may not be a need to switch through 2.5.1.2 and 3.0.0.5 soon. No time frame on that though yet I don't believe.
Anyone know if they fixed the charging while off issue that cwm has?

I would also like to know this. Is there a way to flash the stock recovery from it using 2.5.1.3 or is there another way we need to do this through fastboot or flash it through recovery?

This is big in two ways
first of all
Previously we were not able to create a Nandroid backup. A nandroid backup is a snap shot of our OS in it's current state. So if we flash something new, a font, a boot image, what have you we are putting 100% of our faith in that flash that it will not screw anything else up. Because if it does we have to start at ground 0 again.
second of all
the developer of CWRM said that he would make the 3.x flash-able via the ROM manager when the CM7 build approached an RC status. So that isn't to far off.
So now am I gonna be able to update my rom(cm7) with rom manager automatically.

[Q] Newest recovery and questions

Ok,
Just cannot find a straight answer so far...
1) What is the newest Amon-ra? I want to make sure I have a version that does that backing up of wimax keys thing. (On my phone now, I cannot figure out how to tell what version I already have.) Also, there is something about newer androids in a diff language or whatever.
2) and where do I find it? I found a couple threads but no idea which one is right
Thanks

I don't wanna sound like a noob here, I know how to use CWR, but in reference to fastboot, thats not the fastboot that makes the phone boot faster. But fastboot used in adb for back ups right?? HELP!!
I tried to flash the overclocked kernel and now Im stuck in a bootloop and can't load recovery or be recognized in fastboot usb. It seems like I may have bricked my phone any suggestions. PLEASE HELP
update - I fixed it lol almost thought my dinc 2 was a brick
I may be in the same situation and would like to know how you solved your problem.
I rooted successfully and was running the Gingersense rom with the stock kernel. I wanted to OC a kernel so I downloaded one that I think was intended to run with MIUI. I made a backup so I figured if the kernel didn't work I could always go back.
After installing the new kernel I went into a boot loop. I pulled the battery, got into recovery and tried to restore a backup, but now I freeze on the HTC screen. I've tried three different backups and none of them work -- all freeze on the HTC screen.
I am becoming desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried wiping everything (including /system under "mounts and storage") before restoring the backup? Or tried flashing a different rom? Probably happened because the kernels for AOSP roms and sense roms aren't interchangeable. I would think that restoring a backup would rewrite the boot partition though, which should fix it..
I wiped everything (did data wipe/factory resets as well as wiping everything individually, several times) and could never get any of my backups to work.
I finally copied CM7.1 beta onto the SD card and flashed that (after first having to scrounge to find a card reader and computer that would read an SDHC card) and that worked.
I tried restoring one of my previous backups over CM7.1 (with and without wiping) and went back to freezing on the HTC screen again on each one of them. Don't understand that, since everything was working fine when those backups were made.
Anyway, now I'm using CM7.1 and have a working phone again.
Thanks for your work on this. Much appreciated for helping to realize my dream of a fully-rooted Inc2.
/bow
Ihave the same issues with backup not restoring and getting the white screen. Might need a new SD card.

[Q] Clockworkmod Version

Hello, I have a HTC Desire with ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7.
I haven't flashed a rom for over a year now, and iv'e seen that there are newer versions of CWM.
Is it any good to flash a newer version of CWM or am i good with this 2.5.0.7?
Thank you

+1 I prefer "If it works, don't fix it"
2.5.0.7 is preferred amongst many anyway due to it's proclaimed stability compared to newer CWM recoveries
Never change a running system!
Thank you guys, I'll stay at 2.5.0.7 then, never had problems with it so why update.
Much appreciate
I have the same question, but I read somewhere that some ROMs might need a newer version of CWM, can this be true? If so, will Clockwork backups work from one version to another? I mean, will I be able to make a backup with 2.5.0.7 and restore it in the newer version?
What other things do we have to pay attention when switching custom recovery versions?
Thanks!

Ok, thanks everyone..! I'll just stick with 2.5.0.7 that always worked great for me..! Yeah I read somewhere (not in this forum) that some recent ROMs need a custom recovery that supports "edify" (?), therefore Clockworkmod should be version 3.0 minimum...

Yeah, he wrote it. Someone was clearly talking about scripting used, but as 2.5.0.7 supports both amend and edify, it's bulletproof.

I'm planning to replace CWR with TWRP and ROM Manager with GooManager. After I install GooManager and TWRP, will I need to manually delete the backups made by CWR (blobs etc.)?
Yes, if you want space on your internal storage (or wherever you're storing them). Better off deleting them because they're not compatible anyways.
Just delete the clockwork folder in your internal storage or SD card.
So is Twrp actually the better recovery to use as apposed to cwm?
I've personally found TWRP to be more consistent than CWM's touch interface... (use it on ~ 3 devices a this point... T989, T999, and hp touchpad..)
Works pretty well...

It's all up to preference honestly. I haven't had any issues with all the available recoveries but I prefer CWM 5.0.2.7 because of the Darkside scripts. (They were made specifically for CWM 5.0.2.7, but also work with TWRP last time I checked.) Never had an issue with the recovery and all the ROMs I've flashed have all worked perfectly well.

I agree re: figuring it out for yourself. (I de-bricked my KF2 yesterday, thanks to a Xubuntu - Adb tutorial.)
