[Q] No Thank-Button - About xda-developers.com

Hi there!
My Problem is that I can not see the Thank-Button. I know it disappears when I've made 5 "thanks" one a day, but until now I haven't made one.
Ich would really like to thank Darky for his great ROM.
Greets from Austria
Laurenz
Edit: I'm using Chromium ( the open source version of Google Chrome) under Ubuntu (Linux)

Make sure you are using the XDA 2010 template. Also, you won't get a Thanks button until you've made 1 post.

On addition this above info you have only 5 thanks per day

I'm glad that I finally found this post-- I have been lurking, and really wondered why everyone but me could see the Thank button
(The Emperor's New Button?)
with the new forum changes, I better stop lurking, as I am mostly in the development sections and wont be able to post there until after 10 posts. :-(

You would be fine anyway as you registered before the change was made.

The thank you and no thank you, it does not look like like like like on facebook and I like it.

Well, that explains that. I'll just make my first post here, so I can start thanking those who have helped me...including you.

but, does the Thank button go away after x days?
I wanted to thank lopez1_de for TouchWatch2, but the thread started in 2009 and the only posts with thank buttons are the two most recent from Oct 2010 by other members, not lopez1_de.
So does the button go away on old posts or am I missing something? I'm using the current version of Firefox, and haven't got a clue whether I'm using the XDA 2010 template, what it is or where to find it.

I've noticed this. I assume that the thanks button is only there for posts made since it became available.

Ah! That hadn't even occurred to me. (Comes from being a relative newbie.)
Thanks, johncmolyneux.
I need to track down an explanation of the Thanks button. There must have been one posted when it was started.

I believe you can only thank posts in the last 90 days

Glad I found this thread. First post here, in search of the "thanks" button.

Same here. This may be the start of a long thread...

And add me to the list! Since I can't thank anyone until I've made one post, thanks for posting this thread with the answer to my question about the lack of a thank button.

Adding mine to the "First post in order to be able to thank" thread.

umm, stupid question, but are you on mobile? because on mobile there is no ''thanks'' button.
I misread the title, I thought you were proposing we should have a sarcastic 'no thanks' button...maybe its a good idea, each member would have 2 meters, a thank meter and an arse meter.

Excellent idea!
I do not have the "thanks" button either. I read the thread where XDA introduced the "Thanks" button and it is right next to the quote, multiquote. I have seen pictures, but I do not receive the option to thank someone. Any news on this? Do you need to be a more senior member to be able to thank someone?
* Edit: After posting my first message, I now have the ability to "Thank" people. I guess thats what I get for only reading and not contributing.

[Q] Paid Software Announcement and Discussion

Hi!
I have developed an free app. And of course I want to tell the world about it. I used the "Paid Software Announcement and Discussion", but I didn't read one of the "Read this" messages about it only being for those that have contributed and been on this forum for a while. So it got (rightly) deleted. However, I wounder where I as i "noob" can post this sort of things?
Thanks for your time.
You can post it in the Android Apps and Games forum
Thanks, I posted it there

[Q] Do you think i do a good job at helping others who post questions in Q&A?

hi well some people (no names will be mentioned) have been getting annoyed with me via pm recently for always posting answers to peoples questions. even though i am usually helping them.
so i have a few questions.
1. do you think i should stop posting on questions to help the user?
2. do you think i do a good job at helping people with questions?
3. do you think i should just leave this forum?
4. do you think i should just cut down on how many questions i answer?
5. do you think my answers are correct?
UPDATE: heres a poll i made to make it easier - http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/550367
Put them on ignore and tell them to suck it...

thanks btw are you on giffgaff like your signature ses or are you on orange like the image on the left says? i love giffgaff.
If you feel you are helping people and people are showing their appreciation by telling you or pressing the "Thanks" button then conitnue with it, all that should matter is if you feel you are being a productive positive member. And honesty is usually best, granted tact may also have to come into play but people that are not straight honest it can make things more frustrating for the user in question. So in a nutshell if you think are a benefit then keep going.
but thats the point i am not sure. like 90% of the 100% dont even say thanks or press thanks when i help them as a lot of people post a question and then dont even check that thread again.
thanks thouugh

I have seen users at the end of each post say "if you found this post helpful please hit the 'Thanks" button. I do the same thing on eBay after I sell something, telling people to remember to leave feedback. Same concept. Try that and see if that makes a difference. You got nothing to lose.

XDA Thanks Day

Today after reading the XDA portal, like I always do in the morning after checking my emails.
Something came to my mind, asking me where you will be if you didn’t know about XDA & XDA great Forum members.
After remembering all the hassles I went thru, the problems that I was able to fix, the time that I had saved, and the new experience I gained, By following XDA members Guides, Posts, and News, I decided to go back in my memory to remember:
(every post that had benefit from, any guide that I had followed and didn’t press the thanks button because I was in a hurry or I was so happy to have my problem fixed, any good article that I had read before and gave me a new information, or any XDA TV video that I liked……….etc….., anything that helped me with my XDA experience)
And push the thanks button for that.
In order to keep the good work, and encourage all the good aims, I am inviting you and everybody to spend 5 minutes from your time, and thank those members that you forget to thank.
Thanx XDA.

Sounds good to me, I am going to go back to the start hunt down the devs for the HTC Magic and thank those bad boys... and thanks those that helped me before the thank button was even there...might take more than 5 minutes mind you xD
I just open those posts I would like to thank in a new browser tab and do it when I wake up the next morning.
There is no thanks button for XDA TV videos also.
I think it would be a nice idea to add that, because there is no difference between a usefull post and a usefull video.
Do you agree with me?

This is saying that I'm limited to 8 thanks per day. That's just odd.
You can "thank" more with the XDA or Tapatalk app even if you've run out on your browser.

THANKS !!!!
Thanks a lot XDA !!!
I tried the XDA app again, and it's a piece of crap compared to the 2010 theme, and much, much worse than the 2013 theme. I only find it better than the classic theme.

[GUIDE] The thanks buttons use and what happends if you don't use it!

Hello all xda:ers!
Surely have all of you have gotten a thanks, but have you given one?
The thanks button is more than a button its a help and a way to show your gratitude and support.
So what do you do with it?
If somebody has helped you and solved your problem, press the thanks button.
If somebody has posted some material you like or download press the thanks button.
If somebody has wrote a comment or thread you agreed on, press the thanks button.
And so on...
Let's give you a example of what happens if you don't press the thanks button:
A guy who is new in development have decided to do an app for himself to use because he feels like it's missing something on his phone. He makes the app, and feels that oh yeah this is a really good app, I should give it to the community so they also can use it!
He makes a thread here on XDA about the app and so on and adds the Apk to the thread in an attachment...
Really many here at xda thinks oh what a great app, I couldn't live without it any more!
So after a few days he sees that the thread has had 10k views so he checks out the thread to se what people have said and so on. He looks at his post and sees that he only have gotten 10 thanks!
So he thinks then, well people didn't like my app why should I continue to develop on it? He takes the thread and closes it and takes away the attachments, he makes a code that sends a message to all the downloaded apps that the app testing is now finished and closed so you can't use it anymore and there is no further development since nobody likes this app...
So all of those who downloaded the app can now not use the application that were so great and the guy who made it is gone out of the community!
SO IF YOU LIKE SOMETHING PRESS THAT THANKS SO THE DEVELOPERS CAN UNDERSTAND THAT THEIR WORK IS APPRECIATED AND CONTINUES ON THEIR WORK! AND SO THE USERS WHO HELP YOU HERE ON XDA FEELS THAT ITS GOOD TO HELP PEOPLE INSTEAD OF JUST THROWING SH*T IN THE THREADS!
Thanks that's all I wanted to say!

Why are people always begging for thanks?
Because they can and they think it really matters for something besides the size of their e-..... when all it really is a potentially wildly inaccurate measure of someone's ability to answer a question correctly.

Hahahaha, true. Same thing with post counts. The thing I do love seeing is idiots with bullsh_t spam in their signatures pleading for other users: "if I helped you press thanks OMG OMG OMFGZZZ! thanks thanks thanks" and they contribute absolutely nothing to this forum.
