[Q] MT4G Armband? - myTouch 4G Accessories

Does anyone have any recommendations for an armband for the MT4G? Thinking about picking one up on ebay from seller, mzmshop, but looking for some reviews. (Forum won't let me post a link, since I'm a newb).

T-Mo sells one designed for the MT4G but of course it runs you about $30

iAarmbands
I had one of these for the g1 I was happy with.
iArmbands
no affiliation, just a happy customer.

Cool, thanks. I saw that one on ebay but was wondering if it was any different than the cheapo's. You usually get what you pay for, so I'll prob give it a shot.

I picked one up for like $8.00 at WalMart. It's kind of a tight fit with the TPU case on, but I can still get it in and it does the trick.

This is rather off topic to OP's post but....
I'm assuming you got the armband so you can run while listening to music, etc with it???
Did anyone notice any hesitation in playing music (skipping) while the phone is in motion?
I have a bluetooth headset I use (blueant T1) to stream A2DP music from MT4G to headset and I get ALOT of skipping when MT4G is getting knocked around in my backpack...
sorry for the OT question...

I jogged while holding it or in my sweater jacket, never skipped or got hesitation..

I ended up buying one of the armbands from iArmbands. I haven't run with it yet - but think it will work well. My phone with TPU case slides in about perfect - its snug but easy to put the phone in and out.

The units with the SO screen use a micro sd card to store music and won't skip. The units with the SH screens store the music on nano optical media that is manually operated by a cute little mini monkey. If you shake the mini monkey he can get a bit pissy and skip your tunes.

I ordered the iArmband from Amazon. I haven't had a chance to run with it yet. I'm using my bluetooth headset since they are cheap enough but wanted to show photos of it with and without using the 3.5 jack. Click the photo for full resolution (Beware 14MB photos) Touch screen works in this.

Im confused with this. if you are sweating wont the sweat get into the armband case and get into the phone?

Is it possible to put in this armband a MT4G with TPU case (i.e. this one http ://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130469512376&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT [remove space]) on it? Is it loose enough?

I have made armbands myself for my last two phones (MT3G, MT4G). All you need is the elastic from some old armband (I use one from my ancient MP3 player) and one of the $2 silicone cases from ebay/amazon, etc. Take an x-acto and cut two slits in the back of the silicone skin for the elastic band to pass through, then you just slide the phone into the silicone skin and attach to your arm. Looks much better than the generic armbands, works better without the touchscreen cover and only costs a few bucks.

DIY Vibrant Dock for $5 in materials

I got my Vibrant last week, and I needed a contest entry for a contest over at Instructables, so I hacked up a cheapy iPod dock into an awesome dock for my Vibrant.
The speakers are great for desktop use at work, despite being so cheap.
Unfortunately, I can't post a link to it ... so here are some pictures instead.
Not bad, how do you feed audio into those speakers? Using the AUX jack on the top of the Vibrant im guessing?
Yeah. It's not shown in the pictures, but that speaker set has a built-in 3.5mm cable. You just plug it into the headphone jack on the Vibrant.
NICE! I love instructables.
Is that Sugru for the bumpers? Trying to think of things to do with my samples - neat stuff.
Anyway, awesome dock. Need to keep my eyes open for a cheap dock like that.
Yeah, the Sugru is for the bumpers. I also used it to cover the rough edges of the cut plastic, and to give traction to the feet and stabilize the bottom of the speakers (they liked to rock forward when the phone was placed on the tray).
Those speakers are linked in the Instructable ... I can't post links, but if you search on Amazon for "folding speaker set" and then sort price lowest to highest, you can get those speakers for less than $5 including shipping. They have black ones too.
I happened to get the white set for free from a giveaway. The sugru was free too, so in my case, this dock cost me nothing but a USB cable.
Here -- I think this is your Instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/Hacking-Cheap-iPhone-speakers-for-Android-Dock/
And the dock: http://amzn.com/dp/B000C8TSCQ
Might need to try making myself one of these too.
Personally, I'm hoping for a rotation mod (like CM has......it'll probably have to wait until CM6 is ported to it) that'll allow for the phone to be upside down. When that happens, I'll try to basically make this, but with a mount for the phone to actually dock into the connections.
If/When I ever get the ambition to do this, I'll definitely be using this instructable as a starting point.
THANK YOU!

Yeah, rotation upside down would be awesome. If that were the case, you'd have to lose part of the tray in this version. But I do have a set of desktop computer speakers that are USB powered ....
Nice
Where did you get the clock app?
It's called Digital Clock, you can get it on the Market. It's a free app.
I also have those speakers. I can honestly say they are very cheap but good for the money. If you don't feel like waiting for shipping just go to wal-mart, they are packaged with some of their shirts for about 7 bucks

Hey bro, what case are you using, and where did you buy it from?
I'm using the Jelly Case by Amzer ... got it at Amazon: amzn (dot) to (slash) aTMvCj since I can't post links
By the way ... voting started today at Instructables, so if you're a member there, I'd love to have the votes!
Sugru substitute
You can use Goop or other similar type instead of sugru. There is also liquid handle sold as well. You can buy it at home depot or other places like that in adhesives section. there area bunch of these poly urethane polymers. Basically all you have to do to form it is use wax paper to create the depression shape desired.
BTW. You mentioned USB speakers. I have hooked those same speakers up via usb (just strip on end and shove it where the overall + and - of the batteries would be). Take very little electrical knowledge, but I would look it up if you haven't messed around with wiring things up, but I love turning things into USB powered. Although I wanted to put a mini-usb connector on mine and have yet to do it, but just say, for those of you out there, these speakers run off USB just fine.
Well when you buy them from amazon they come with a usb power cord. I didn't get mine from amazon.

depends how picky you want to be. i bought the LIVEstrong arm band, for i think the iphone, at radio shack and i had to drop an elbow on the phone to get it to go in but after that it's pretty sweet. comfortable, flexible, breathable and a hole for your headphones. that's all i wanted. ya mean?
I tried one for the iphone 4. They are WAY to small. You can get it in there and the hole for earplugs align, but its to hard to get in and out. Not worth it
I just put it in my back pocket, works like a charm. I don't think I've ever run across an arm-band that was big enough to holster this beast.
with more and more giant beastly phones coming out there has to be something! I found a decent sized one that fits my evo but the hole doesnt align for the headphones... its really annoying... i guess i could cut one into the right size...
Best Buy Generic Android Arm Band
I looked online, but didn't fine many options, so I went to local best buy and found a generic HTC Android arm band that has been great. I was roughly $20 and is good quality. I have the extended battery (3500mAH SEDIO) and it works like a charm. Use it when lifting, running, and elliptical and it stays put. Definitely recommend.
I went to wal mart and got a Phillips one, made for the Iphone, but it is sort of a nylon/stretchy type material, my evo fits in it great, plus the holder is thin enough you can "sort of" see through it when screen is on..I set up swype guestures w/ cm7 on the lock screen and can register my "next track" guesture through it...works good enough!
I like this one
I bought this one a while back. Fits like a glove. I tried a similar Nike strap and the EVO didn't fit and the strap was too short to go around my arm. I don't have big arms. I just think the Nike was made for a girl maybe. Anyway, here is the Amazon "link".
Black Durable Neoprene Exercise Sports Workout Armband with Adjustable Velcro Strap for Sprint HTC EVO 4G Android Smartphone
Sorry, first post. Can't post a link, but I copied and pasted this from the title of the item on Amazon.
I'm on my second arm band, and still no luck finding the right one. Anyone know if HTC sold OFFICIAL arm bands for the EVO?
I usually ride with my Camelbak.. there is a pouch in it that fits my phone just fine.. I find these sony earbuds that I got from radio shack has a long enough cord and there is no binding..
Although I have herd of some people using iPhone buds and are able to control functions like Track up or down and volume..
any thoughts?

I searched for an armband for both my Evo and iPhones in the past and found that the better solution for me was a holster case for it that holds it horizontally (landscape) on my hip. It works with shorts, sweatpants, or whatever as long as the waste band is somewhat tight or has a drawstring.

The water proof thread

So to kick it off, I've got two "pouches" that are supposed to be watertight. I haven't checked if they are actually water proof, but I can say something about the fit (or misfit).
1. Had the Hagløfs Watatait for the S1. Plastic made it impossible to insert the phone. I had to use a metallic case on the phone to get it in the pouch.
The S3 have the same problem. Its slightly less "clingy", but edges on phone get stuck before fully inserted. There is no room for a phone with case.
2. Got the Overboard case from mobilefun. S3 slides nicely into the pouch. Locking feels safe enough, to the point of being over-engineered. The clear plastic window is slightly small, making it hard to pull down the notification menu. Also a bit fiddly to find the power and volume buttons.
Its also a very tight fit. I suspect its made for the iphone, with room for protection for that phone. Any case that offer enough protection for the S3 make it too big for this pouch.
So anyone else have a watertight pouch case they want to share with the rest of us?
I'm a biker, after much trial and error I found the Northcore surfing cases and bought one for my old phone (Desire). Got my S3 today and while tight it does fit the bare phone with no problems and leaves it easily operable. I usually have the phone strapped to my left forearm and have some capacitive thread stitched into the index finger of the right glove and a bluetooth headset for sound. Add in Tasker to deal with automation and it makes the phone really easy to use.
This is the beastie:
CLICKY
I'm hoping Liquidpel will be available for this device. http://www.liquipel.com/
Basically they coat the entire phone + internals with hydrophobic material, that way even when water gets into the phone, it remains working.
I used a waterproof pouch when I was on my last cruise. Put my epic touch in it and went snorkeling for hours with it in my pocket. It was under water the whole time, no leaks. I bought it from Amazon.com.

The tight fit is a problem, to be ideal, it should be room for something like Otterbox defender or Ballistic-whatever-its-name-was. A drop in one of the pouches with bare phone is nearly as bad as a drop of the bare phone, and SIII doesn't take a lot of abuse on its own.
So looking for something with a bit more room, that still have decent opening to operate the screen.
I suspect you'll have problems finding anything that big, the S3 isn't a small handset to start with and by the time it's cased up it doubles the bulk.
Good luck :good:
If your looking for waterproof bag i have been using a type of waterproof ziplock for years. its called Aloksak. I have swam across rivers a few time and my gear in it is always dry.
Its certified waterproof to 60 metres and tested by the Navy Diving Unit.
I got mine through amazon and there are alot of sizes some even can fit a rifle. I have some that are really beat up scratches and stretch marks from sharp object and they are not even leaking.
Screen is 100% usable and its dirt cheap.
I am looking for a decent water proof case myself. I have ran across the drycase from drycase.com and have contacted them in an attempt to verify that the s3 will fit in the standard case without having to get the tablet sized one.
It does not offer drop protection however they say its rated to 100 feet (30 meters) so i should be able to take this on a 40 foot reef dive.
I really want to get rid of my camera housing as its for an old sony 5mp camera that barely works anymore.
Drycase
I just received my Drycase from Amazon. So far here are my thoughts on it with the S3. I have never owned a waterproof case like this before so perhaps some of these issues are common to cases like this. Keep in mind I have only had the case for a couple hours so these are just my initial impressions.
1. It is a little difficult to get the phone into and out of the case. It sticks to the plastic sides of the case.
2. Although the Drycase sales rep told me that the S3 would fit in the case and it does for the most part, it is hard to get it far enough into the case so that you can connect the headphone adapter and still have it be out of the way of the top black flap and closing mechanism.
3. Once the phone is in the case and the air is pumped out, the plastic sides of the case fit pretty tight to the body of the phone. This is nice as it makes the screen easy to see, however it also makes the volume and power buttons on the sides of the case difficult to press. I was trying to use the case to take underwater photos and video and because you can not use the touch screen when underwater I mapped the volume down button to the camera shutter, but it was difficult to press this button when the phone was in the case.
4. When the headphone/microphone jack inside the bag is connected to the phone any sound you record with a video will not be recorded since I assume the internal microphone is disconnected. So if you want sound with video you would need to either not plug in the internal cable or connect an external mic. Not a big deal for shooting underwater but if you are going to be moving between above and below water you may want to just leave this cable disconnected.
Anyone seen or tried this pouch?

Also , FYI, when you are under water, you cant use the phone well, it just wont pick up your print.

How do you get the headphone line out of the OB pouch? The one with integrated headphone jack looks interesting. Maybe the Note-sized pouch is big enough for a S3 with a Ballistics case. Worth a try?

Alternative to an armband?

I mostly row and jog, and I've found the armband makes me unbalanced because of the extra weight on one arm. Have any of y'all found an alternative to this? I would really like to listen to music through my phone, but if I can't find some alternative to an armband, I might just get one of those small clip-on iPod Nanos.
Thinking about getting a Samsung HS3000 bluetooth headphone adapter for the treadmill/wearing shorts. (thread here someplace about it.)
Ipod nano or a Sansa clip might be a more reasonable solution though.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of armbands, especially w/ a phone the size of the GSIII, it would be quite cumbersome.
I've used a Tune Belt sport belt forever while working out @ the gym & running. I originally bought it for a minidisc player like 6-7 years ago but also used it for my iPod 5G & my current Nexus S in a tpu case. It's still in great shape today, no rips/tears or anything. The fact that I still use it today speaks to its durability & quality. I'm getting the GSIII soon tho & so I'll probably have to upgrade my tune belt as well, luckily they have one for large phones now.

I just don't like the phone moving around in my pocket while exercising. If it were a treadmill, I could just set the phone in the cupholder and use the clip-on Bluetooth headset people have been recommending, but I need something that will prevent the phone from moving while on my body.

This is interesting. A belt for your phone? I'll try to find one that fits the S III.
I actually started running last week and an armband works pretty fine... Before that I had a belt kinda thing but it still bounces too much and is quite annoying, an armband is pretty well fixed and when tied around the upperarm, you hardly feel it's there.
But appearantly for you it is, hmmm... Belt would be worth a try then, it's more centered I guess. Perhaps mine just didn't fit properly.
Belt Clip the way to go.
I hate the armband thing. When you flex you bicep it tightens up too much.
When I had a iPhone I used the Mareware Sportshell and loved it! It had both armband and belt clip. I only ever used the belt clip. I CANNOT find anything else like it so far for the S3.
This is the site for the SportShell: New user so I can't post it but just Google it.

Dude, take a look at shieldflow.com - it's something new that will let you hold your phone and listen to music

Phillips AS111

If anyone is looking for a decent dock, I just purchased the Phillips AS111, and I LOVE it!
It got mixed reviews over at Amazon, mostly about bad bluetooth connection and the poor quality of the Fidelo app. The Fidelo app is pretty bad, it's the app thats used to pair the phone to the dock. It also has some alarm and music streaming features. I only use Fidelo to automatically turn on bluetooth and pair to the dock when it gets plugged in (so I do not have to press any buttons when I put it on the dock, which is cool). Other than that feature, I use other third party apps for my alarm and music.
As for the bad bluetooth connection, I could not disagree more. I've had it connected for about a total of 24 hours now, playing music, with NO problems.
Sound quality is actually surprisingly good for a small dock, not audiophile grade but good! Dock is great quality, not cheap. Clock is three stage dimmable, and the dock also had a cool orange night light, which is two stage dimmable or can be turned completely off.
One problem I had with this dock is using it with a case. I have the Speck Candyshell, and I had to use a saw to cut a little bit of the plastic away from the docking part itself, and it doesn't look the best... but its a small piece of plastic, and it functions, and thats all that matters to me.
If anyone is looking for a good dock, I recommend this one!
Heres a link to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-AS111-37-Fidelio-Docking/dp/B005HY4UOG
I have the bigger dock by Phillips and I love the thing.

Yeah despite it's mixed reviews, I am very pleased as well. Glad I took the plunge and bought it! It's relatively cheap too... I am willing to buy one of the bigger ones now
I got the middle modle, bigger than the clock but not the 150 dollar one. The middle model is 56$ on ebay right now, a refurb seller has a bunch in stock. Refurbs are almost always superior to new, cheaper and the things that would have broken are broken and fixed already.
im thinking to buy one, but i think i will go for the as351
I got the AS111 on sale at target for $39.99 and couldnt be happier, pretty classy looking for the price, love the light ring that glows around it... I never used the app so I couldnt comment, but for the price and the size, the sound quality over BT is quite good. I have an SGP neo hybrid case and its too thick to be used with the dock... But I dont really mind as i have a Sony dash alarm plus a Griffin Ipad stand which works perfectly with the S3 (http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-WaveS...1347091244&sr=8-5&keywords=griffin+ipad+stand). I ended up placing the AS111 in my bathroom.
