[Q] HTC Weather and Clock Widget - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

I am new to XDA and people have probably asked this already, but I was wondering if there was any way (other than rooting and flashing HTC sense) to get the Clock and weather widget with animations. I am using fancy widget right now, but I wanted to know if there was any way I could get the actual sense widget or something very very close to it.

You have to have a Sense based OS/ROM installed on your phone to utilize the Sense clock/weather widget. If you don't have that, the closest thing to it is Fancy Widgets or Beautiful Widgets (which I use & screenshot below).
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}

If you want the exact clock you will have to do a google search for the older version of fancy widget 1.3.0
Then to get the weather animations you'll need to purchase beautiful widgets and configure it to show the animations everytime you unlock the phone like sense does.
Back when I wanted this look, that was exactly what I did and it worked perfect for me.

only reason it's smaller is because I have my lcd_density at 200 instead of the default 240.
So anyone who tells you that you can't have the Sense looking "Weather&Toggle Widget" does not know what they speak of...

When I download beautiful widgets, don't I have to have the widget on the screen to use the animation?

The way i was able to get it to work was by trying to place a widget on a screen where there wouldn't be enough room for a large widget. It was able to get me in the settings to enable the animations so it still worked even though there wasn't a widget present.

if you are cyanogen mod, or any NON SENSE based rom, you cant get it back. thats only to sense. i have been using beautiful widgets for quite sometime and i am not disapointed. once you download it, go into the app, and then into advanced settings. the animations are not as neat as sense, but they still work pretty well.

Fancy Widget on the Android Market is the best.

I guess no one was paying attention to my post about weather and toggle widget. SAME EXACT WIDGET but the animations are a little different.
Look at my screenshot...

Which skin is that for Weather & Toggle Widget?

I ended up using Weather & Toggle Widget's animation because I couldn't get Beautiful Widgets with my credit card. The animations are a little different but it's a lot better than just plain. Thanks

He,
I am also looking for the HTC Sense Clock + Animation in transparent (I got HTC Sense installed but it is only the normal grey/black clock, no transparent option). I saw that "Weather & Toggle Widget" can do it but it costs some money. Any free version or alternative available? I guess not or?

I'm not even sure if you want the animation. I've used it for a couple days and I can see that it's getting a little annoying. Beautiful Widgets and Weather &Toggle are the only ones that im aware of that have animation. The Weather & Toggle is good and has HTC-like animations. For example today it is raining and I got the windshield wiper animation. My friends thought it was sense. If you want just the clock I would definitely recommend Fancy Widget v.1.30. It looks perfect. Sorry if this isn't much help

Thanks for the reply. The animation always looks quite nice to me (at least the HTC Sense one) but the thing is that I got a more "white" themed homescreen now and the black HTC Clock Widget does not really fit into it. But ok nvm if there is no free version. I also got no access to payed apps in the country over here .

Even though I no longer use these, I just want to clarify for everyone else. Those animations you're talking about, are you sure they are weather & toggle? You wouldn't perhaps still have beautiful widgets installed would you? I know that before, it was beautiful widgets with the animation, even with the widget not being used. So long as I'd used the widget once, even if I took it off of the screen, the animation would still play. Had me fooled into thinking it was weather & toggle. Easiest way to check is to uninstall beautiful widgets, if it's installed. If it isn't, that's news to me, and cool for everyone else.
Also, setting lcd density to anything other than 240 or 160 results in no animations for me. I never fully gave 200-240 a shot though honestly, as I use 195 personally

Weather and toggle definitely has animations. I never actually installed beautiful widgets so I don't know what their animations are like. For Weather and toggle, I didn't even need an actual widget. There was a free addon I installed for the animations. I'll post a screen shot after baseball.

Transparant notificationbar (which Launcher???)

Okay, finally rooted my arc, and I wanted to have a semi-transparant notificationbar.
That worked well with apps like gmail and market like this:
But it doesn't work with my Launcher, than it looks like this:
Does any one know if I am doing something wrong or is it something LauncherPro Launcher can't handle? If so, which Launcher can, I tried GO Launcher without any luck, only the default Sony Launcher worked, but I want to use my own dock and scrollable widgets.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Cheers,
Arnold
I believe LauncherPro crops wallpapers, so it could be that your statusbar is transparent, there's just nothing behind it.
Try switching to an alternative launcher (even the stock SE one) to test it.
To be honest, in the long run, you'd be better off finding an alternative to LauncherPro, it's stagnated.
No idea about cropping, I tested a few free launchers from the market in the meantime, Sony Arc default launcher and Regina Launcher can handle the statusbar as I wanted, but they have to little options for my likings...
Thanks anyway for replying. I also posted in the UOT topic, maybe there is something else I can do.
I know Launcher Pro is stagnated, but the scrollable widgets and possibilities to customize is still keeping me at LP.....besides I am Dutch and I paid for it
LauncherPro is certainly odd in the way it does stuff.
I know from experience that it doesn't draw the app drawer background behind the statusbar, so I wouldn't be surprised if it handled wallpapers a wee bit differently too.
I used to swear by LauncherPro, I tried ADW, Go, Zeam etc and wasn't impressed but over time they've improved and LauncherPro hasn't.
The only two things I miss about LauncherPro are the ability to hide apps in the app drawer and the widgets you get with the Pro version.
In terms of customisability, I don't think it really is that much better than the rest of them - most launchers share most of the same options.
And which launcher is able to keep my own dock like pic2 in my first post and can handle the customized statusbar? That would be great....
sent from arc or optimus 2x
I thought ADW did but after a second look it doesn't, my mistake.
edit: no, I was right - ADW EX does (that's the paid version).
ADW is open-sourced so as well as the main one (ADW EX), there are a number of other docks based on it's code. I'm using one of those spin-offs, so I don't have all the same options.
Tested adw ex for a few minutes, really annoying you don't have proper time to test, but I am almost certain the statusbar can't be changed neither, I have the same as launcher pro.
Tried zeam launcher as well, but there you can't use custom dock....lol, I quess its not possible what I want...
Thanks for replying though, appreciated much!

You're welcome.
Sorry you couldn't find an answer to your problem.
Hopefully there is someone out there who knows a launcher which I can use my transparent statusbar and my Dutch dock as well...
Cheers again.

Launcher pro does support transparent status bar.
statusbar_background.png editted and note paper wallpaper added to homescreen for purpose of screenshot.
From left to right = 100% transparent, white, black, red, green, yellow.
Bottom half = 50% transparent. See below

But I get a horrible effect when loading web pages.
The http address bar header drops down to reveal the status bar but behind it is another http address bar header. I assume this is just a htc thing that may not effect you though. See below
I just start using multi picture live paper which also gives me the result I was looking for. Thanks for your reply

Yeah I know that's what's happening.
I don't mean to be rude about the guy, what he's done is amazing, but the longer it drags on, the harder I find it to believe that this mythical new version is actually on it's way...
@Pollpix: how exactly did you get your statusbar to look like this?
what did you use to change the statusbar itself?
I used uot kitchen, set transparent statusbar, color white, put it I think on 20%, used multi picture wall paper and with this greyish background it looks like this. Also I used icons for white status bar in the kitchen and put the time on blackish, like rgb 30,30,30, so together with this 20% transparency it is still visible when using black apps like tapatalk. The font is Sony sketch obviously... Hope this helps...

Color of clock glitched for screenshot, it's usually white.. don't know why it's doing that.

I only tried agile lock free version but I had the problem of other apps being able to be activated even when the screen was locked. Wave Launcher is the one I had problems with. You slide your finger up from the bottom, and a wave of shortcuts pops up, it's very nice to access apps/sites from within a fullscreen app without backing out.

anyone know how to get lock screen EXACTLY like this...
i have the unlock slider at the bottom, but i cant figure out:
- what is the app (widget) for the clock [that EXACT clock]
- what app/widget is used for the time/weather/battery (i believe it is all in the same widget, and not separate ones)
- how to get the phone icon, messaging icon, and the mail icon
is anyone knows, please do tell any parts and bits that you can

Clock is maybe one of the clocks in the Analog Clock Collection app? Though I don't recall seeing a blue-handed one there. Other possibilities: Animated Analog Clock with add-on skins, or Custom Clock.
Time/weather/battery is SimiClock.
Icons.. hard to say. They look pretty generic.

Note: Fixed images!
I don't use the black background cuz I like it, it's because WP clock does not properly work on the Nitro. When using WP Clock with a background image, the image will not fill the whole screen, but leaves this little space at the bottom about half the height of the dock, so it looks somewhat funny. WP clock said they are working on a new version of WP clock, which is optimized for HD screens.

Ok, I've got nothing to "flaunt", but I am finally happy with my lockscreen =) For whatever reason, I felt compelled to tinker with the lock screen a bit, so I'm sharing what I did-
I use the lock pattern, but I hate the dots, hate the carrier, hate the line separating the time and the dots, and hate the emergency call button. Ugly... So I changed them all =)
Changed PNGs to transparent dots
Removed carrier in lock screen (as well as notification bar from before) - XML edit
Made the separator line super faint (turns out I like a tiny bit of line =) ) - PNG swap
Removed emergency call button so it only appears after failed pattern unlock - XML edit
I know where the dots are, so I just have them appear only when pressed (but even then, I made them more transparent)
Now I'm happy =)
looks pretty schnazzy in here!

At least I think its pretty.

No screen shots to provide but I have tried a few combinations of having different widgets but found it slows down the phone enough for me to notice lag. For example, once I add a full calendar widget to one of the home screen the switch between screens becomes laggy. Does that happen with you guys too?

Applications & Widgets for the Galaxy Nexus (What's Your Favorite?)

I've decided to start this thread because like others I'm always looking for new Applications & Widgets for my device. With the massive amount of Application releases each day it's quite time consuming to constantly keep up to date let alone test out each of these.
With that said, what are some Applications / Widgets you simply cannot live without? Those that look good on the homescreen / lockscreen / etc.
If you'd like to include a screenshot with your post as well that'd be great, let's build a good list for people who aren't familiar with all the Applications the Android Market has to offer!
--
With that said I'd have to put Poweramp in the list, it's simply the best Application for music with a ton of options.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer.unlock
(Currently on sale in the market this weekend for $1.99 as opposed to the $4.99 normal price tag)
Hmm... I'd have to say mClock for the aesthetics and simple calendar widget for functionality and aesthetics. And Android pro Widgets rule too...

Quite simple really...
1.) Just download the image you want to look up.
2.) Edit that image to crop out unnecessary details.
3.) Upload that image to Google Image Search.
4.) Profit.

Sure. Here you go. I edited the Mario one so that there is more black space to align with homescreens properly. Added an extra one for fun. These images aren't mine... I found these on the "post your homescreen thread" here at XDA.
Just started using WidgetLocker these past few days, seems it's transitioned into more of a stable application for the Nexus. I'm having no noticeable lag at this time.

My must-have apps/widgets would be:
BeWeather Pro - very nice weather app with an assortment of widget sizes that can be skinned via BeWeather skins OR Beautiful Widget skins.
PlayerPro - Music app that I absolutely love. Has a fantastic GUI, great sound quality and the dev is very responsive. I've tried just about every music app out there and this is one fits my musical needs best.
XiiaLive - Awesome internet radio station app that plays Shoutcast stations. Use this to blast my internet dance radio stations through my car stereo while having my Gnex paired to it via Bluetooth).
Equalizer (by Smart Android Apps) - Great EQ app that I use to have equalized sound in the various music apps on my phone (PlayerPro, Google Music, XiiaLive, Digitally Imported, etc.).
CarHome Ultra - Fantastic app that takes care of the problem of Samsung taking forever-and-a-day to release their stupid official car dock for the Gnex by having the option to automatically put my phone in car mode when my phone connects to my car stereo over Bluetooth. Love this app!
gReader Pro - Best RSS reader I've found that can access Google Reader feeds. Again, tried many, many various RSS apps out there and this one stomps them all (for my needs anyway).
Nova Launcher - Takes the native ICS launcher and kicks it up a notch with some very nice extra features. Kinda funny/sad that it does a better job with controlling lag when using the stock ICS Live Wallpapers than Google's own native launcher.
Pure Calendar - Skinnable widget that can pull my Google Calendar and Touchdown Exchange calendar data together and display them all very nicely in a scrollable widget. The dev of the "Pure" series of apps/widgets really does a great job with all of the apps in this line.
iSyncr - Fantastic app that allows me to sync my iTunes-based playlists on my iMac to my Gnex. Also has a companion app to do the syncing wirelessly.
Google Voice - For all the options it gives to deal with voicemail messages, spam calls/texts, not to mention free texting! Been using this since it became available and I think I'd pretty much die without it now. haha
WiFi File Explorer Pro - Handy app that allows me to access my phone from my computer over my home wifi network.

Sorry if this list it a bit long but these are all the apps I use regularly and would dearly miss if they were to go away.

Hey man I tried sending you a message but apparently XDA is real screwy and need to get some bugs fixed. anyway...I was wondering how you got the mclock widget to resize to fit the nexus' screen. I used the .xml file from Red X but he made the width 420 so it shows up really small on the nexus screen. If you could let me know how to resize it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
The Game of Thrones clock widget is my fav...

Cannot be without:
Transparent Launcher - I like being able to place some apps on the homescreen with an "invisible" icon
Android Weather Widget
Advanced Clock Widget Pro - I like the simplicity

Favorite Weather App and Widget For Your Galaxy Nexus

The one thing I miss on Android is a weather app and widget that works reliably. What do you use?
I use the beautiful widget home weather clock
Stock news and weather app.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a Sense like app that is more clock than weather, Fancy Widgets or Beautiful widgets are both good. I personally prefer Fancy Widgets.
1Weather is a very nice weather app. It's got a widget that is very nice, but not a clock. I like this app a lot better than the sense type apps because it actually has some decent information in it.

beautiful widget and one more clock
weather
i know people will question why... but I use weatherbug. I like it when my weather app provides a text summary for the current and forecasted weather.
Appearance wise, I like Fancy Widgets.
Accuracy wise I like Palmary Pro; I can select a weather server that I know I trust and that is updated frequently enough.
Which one do I use? Fancy Widgets since I'm a poseur.
Beautiful Widget. Nice and simple.

Why would someone question it? If it is what you like.... What are they going to say, "No, you don't like that"? People will always flame but who cares.
I use beautiful Widgets for the week forecast, but I also like the weather info in AOKP.
I have used and like the Widgets for Weather bug, 1Weather, and of course Beautiful Widgets.
I wish there were more Widgets available that don't look like HTC Sense. IMO

Damn, that's nice!
beautiful widge ts for sure, best way to go
1weather because its attractive and has an innovative layout. Doesn't look like every other weather app. 2x2 widget is nice, I hardly ever open the app. The only thing I wish is that the background color could be changed. The brown is a bit weird...
I use SiMi Clock and it's weather. I don't like the huge sun on the Sense weather clones. I use the SiMi weather icon as a launcher and use 1Weather for detailed information.
Aix Weather Widget and The Weather Channel (mainly because it has weather maps).
1weather. Most elegant I've ever seen.

I use HD Widgets, bought it when it was part of the Google 10c sale a while back.
I do like the sense-clone weather widgets and this one offers some really nice customisation options. I have it setup with a more flat background so it matches in nicely with the Simi Calendar widget.
just tried android weather and I must admit that it's veeery nice..
As for accuracy.....
I tested several apps, and WeatherBug Elite clearly had the most accurate forecasts for me.
I also like Minimalistic Text but it's woefully short on features. I cannot seem to get rid of the damn location.
I would love a simple 3 day option in place of the city.
I also see what you guys mean about 1weather. I do like that it puts it into the notification shade though. That's very cool. Pretty much useless temp number in the corner. The font is way to small but that feature is nice as well.
Simple Weather Alert is neat in a old school kind of way.
