[Q] Help, 32GB sdcard not working! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Kingston 32GB microSD is not working. I plugged it into my computer, a Win7 x64 laptop, through the adapter included with it. At the same time, I used my phone's disk drive feature to mount my old 2gb and copy everything from the 2 to the 32. I then copied the new incubus warm z ROM to the new card as well. I plugged the 32gb card into my phone, and it seemed to be fine. Then I booted recovery, made a nandroid, all still fine. I then wiped my device to install warm z, then did install zip from sd card and selected it and hit install. It came back bad file install failed. Now, nothing reads my 32gb sdcard. The 2GB continues to work fine. Any suggestions? The 2gb had 100 MB free at the time of copying if it matters

Have you tried reformatting. I know there are programs out there for reformatting corrupt SD cards when windows can't get it done.

You can try to repair the SD card through Windows. Mount the SD card to your computer. My Computer, Right click on the SD card drive, Properties,Tools Tab,Check drive for errors.
GL

Repairing through windows doesn't work. I also tried snow leopard disk utility, which also fails. I'll look for one of those programs and report back.

Try this. It's an official SD card formatting program from Panasonic that formats SD cards to official specs. You can then use Windows to format it to Fat32 if needed. I have used 2.0 on my Win7 x64, and you'll see the 3.0 beta they have for the SDXC cards. I haven't had any issues with it, since I have about 6 microSD's for various MP3 players, phones, computer stuff, it's what I use when reformatting.

I tried the 3 beta and the 2 stable; both say that the write-protection switch is on when it is not. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure write protection is found in the reader. Maybe try another

I tried it in my laptop's internal reader and in my USB reader. The USB reader was tried on Windows 7 x64 and on Mac OS X 10.6.6.
None worked.

Give this a read.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/11414-2-card-reader-card-write-protected

I'll try the tape thing and report back. My Transcend 8gb class 6 SDHC, meanwhile, works great in the internal. If it matters, I have a Gateway MD2419U laptop

No dice on the tape trick...

I don't know. I guess just keep trying different stuff. Someone said they were able to format a 1gb partition onto the card with there camera. Then through that partition they were able to format entire card. I've seen a few people claiming hdd low level format will fix any problem. You didn't get your card off eBay did you

Well my **** camera didn't do the trick either.... No, I didn't get it off ebay. I dislike ebay with a passion lol
Unfortunately, being a minor, I do not possess a credit card or PayPal account, so my dad found one and ordered it for me. I know for a fact that he doesn't have an ebay account.

Well it's dead... I talked to a couple people at best buy today and they confirmed it.

Missing Storage Card

I recently upgraded from the Tmobile 6.0 ROM to Rickwyatt's v24 Opera Rom. I followed the instructions posted for "Newcomers" by Mikey1022. Everything work great I really like the 6.1 ROM. But, the Dash no longer sees the 1 GB SD storage card. It should be showing up as "Storage Card" in File Explorer", right? I've looked in every folder and don't see it anywhere. I don't see it on the Dash screen or over the PC using ActiveSync. Oddley enough, when I enable Bluetooth explorer I can see a Storage Card listed in the Menu of File Explorer. When I click on the Storage Card link it takes me to a Bluetooth folder, not what I'm looking for.
I've been using this card for a couple of years and it was working fine before the 6.1 upgrade. I have since tested it in a desk top and in a Verizon Razer phone, it works properly at both places.
I reviewed some other missing storage card type threads in this forum, but never found a solution that works for me. I've even tried formating the card, both as FAT 16 and FAT32. Niether worked, I'm back to FAT 16 now. Some forum suggestions were to reformat the card in the Dash using Resco Explorer, but how do you do that when you can't see the card?
I tried reloading V24 Opera, didn't work. I've tried all varieties of reboots, soft resets, hard resets. Nothing works.
Any suggestions? What am I missing? Is this an issue with V24, should I try another ROM?
Try the Kavana Rom to see if it's the rom or the card?
When you plug your phone to active sync, can you see your card through that?
That is weird because I am running version 24 and it seems to be working fine with me well my storage card seems fine...
Same as jdog never had probs on v. 24
OK, I tried the Kavana ROM. I still can't see the SD card. No, I can't see the card through ActiveSync either.
I guess I'm in the market for a new card, dang it.
Who is the manufacture of it?
i have 4 cards, all different brands and they all show up in v24. maybe a new card would be best...you can get a 1gb for about $5 now
I had a card do that before, so I put it in another phone and it was recognized. I ended up reformatting it and it started working again on my phone.
I bought a great big 2 gb card today, stuck it in, and nothin. Still could not see the storage card in file explorer. The card is a PNY.
So, I flashed back to the T-Mobile 6.0 ROM. Got it from their website. Anyway, tried the old 1 gb card and the new 2 gb card. Still cannot see a storage card in File Explorer or through ActiveSync.
My problem is apparently not with the ROM. I am doing (or did) something wrong. As I said earlier the card was working prior to upgrading to the 6.1 ROM. Is there a setting somewhere to tell the Dash it has a storage card in it. I thought it as a plug and play type thing.
Could it be a hardware issue? I really don't want to crack the shell open looking for loose wires or something.
Any ideas would be appreciated!
PNY cards a crappy. Sandisk it my friend.
The original 1 gb card is a Sandisk.
Both cards are working. And I guess the roms are working to.
What else could be going wrong?

Have you tryed putting any of your cards into a card reader on a computer to see if recognised 'just going over every possibility your cards may be corrupted?'
Sorry just read your post again and it was recognised.
Strange as i have multiple cards of make and sizes and there all recognised.
Long shot try some compressed air. Maybe some crud got in the slot for the mini SD.
take the card...stick it in a pc/laptop and use something like partition magic or paragon to format the card to fat16 or 32. once formatted see if the phone sees it.
other than that...buy a better card...kingston have never failed me nor has sandisk
edit: oh yea...when you format it, make sure you give it a drive letter (such as f...if i dont do that, the phone wont see the card.

Help with formatting issue on Sandisk 16gb micro sd hc

Well first off I want to apologize for such a lame first thread, but I've been a heavy reader for a while now and this is the first time I haven't been able to solve it.
I bought a Sandisk 16gb micro sdhc class 2 card for my fuze and having a very difficult time formatting it.
I put it in my phone, connected it to my comp via usb and selected "disk drive" option on my phone, then on my comp selected the "open folder to view files" option and I put some files on it. I then disconnected it from my comp and a few minutes later checked to see if my files were on my phone, the files were there but it said the card was full when there was only ~1.2gigs on it. So I connected it back to my computer and when I tried to open the card it said that the card was not formatted, so I select the format now option and it will fail, saying windows could not complete formatting. I then downloaded the panasonic sd formatter from www.sdcard.com and tried formatting again and it says the write protection switch is on and to turn it off, well there isnt a write protection switch on the card...
So I'm not sure what to do at this point, can anyone offer any insight to this issue?
Thanks in advance for any help.
There is a write protection switch on the SD adapter
well in my case the "sd adapter" is my fuze/tp which has never had any problems serving as a disk drive adapter for my sd card in the past.
my laptop has a slot for memory cards and i do have a micro>sd apadter but my lt can not read sd hc cards.
no one can help or offer any insight?
I really don't want to have to buy another one..
I would be willing to donate to whoever can help me fix this..
SanDisk microSDHC card
I did move the write protection switch both ways and it still says write protected in either direction. please help. Thanks
i think it may be your version of windows. i had a similar problem even with a 4gb non-sdhc sd card. it can be read on the phone, but for some reason can't be read if put in the laptop. i just didn't format it because i know it worked.
when i bought a 16gb micro sd for my touch pro, funnily the laptop recognised it even with an adaptor. so maybe since i updated my windows vista, it also updated 'the driver' for the card?
sorry more anecdotal than anything else. just try to use windows update - if you use windows.it may help as in my case.
did u solved the problem???
i have the same problem
i can see the files from the card but i cant delete/copy/format (
the card may be a fake. registration does not actually authenticate the card. where were these cards purchased? if ebay or some similar site you should probably contact sandisk support to verify authenticity 866-sandisk
I have a same problem. Although it is a Transcend disc 16GB class 2. No, I didn't buy it on ebay. I am using Windows 7 x64. Copying to the card can happen when it is in the phone mounted.
same exact freaking problem
ok i'm having this same problem with a sandisk 8gb card... It's very annoying as i can read but basiaclly cannot write anything to it or format it. How was this problem solved?
still no solution?
im dealing with the same issue i have a 16g sd that came with my d1 and now my pc reads 14g from my phone then 31mb from a flash reader??

Thank you this thread has helped!
You asked for more info and I would recommend two free programs:
1) H2testw 1.4 which tests to see if your card has genuine capacity
2) SD Formatter for SDHC This software formats all SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards,

Check my last post on the thread I quoted - you are probably using SD slot on PC. Try USB. What card were you using.

Well its a dell PC flash card reader, the SD to micro I've tried 3 and I'll see what kind of SD but it was the stock one from my d1
Fascinating

Anyone used a 2GB SanDisk for creating GoldCard?

I've just attempted creating one of these but when I came to saving the new modified 'image' on the card itself, the HxD program gave me a CRC error. Got same message on two different PCs using the same SanDisk MicroSD card.
It just wouldnt let me save the image and I was forced to close down the program after which point my card was no longer readable by either PC or phone. The card stuff on it before I began and both PC and phone recognised it.
1) Anyone used one of these cards to perform this?
2) Recommendations for a decent low-level format utility so I can try again? The Pansonic utility thinks 'my device (card) is unsupported'
Thanks
I used one of these cards and recall I had to format it using an app called Paragon Partition manager after that happened.
Think I'll have to try the whole thing on another card. Tried many times on this one and no joy.
I think it totally depends on the card reader personally, as I used a 2gig sandisk with no problems. Using a sandisk sd adaptor and a sandisk sdhc to usb adaptor
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
definately - it depends on the card reader.
make sure you are using a proper one, not a modem dongle or the phone
and format first
I'm using a multi-card reader, will try and get hold of a single branded SD reader and try again.

Evo evowned my sd card

So I plug my 16 gig in to format it and poof. Never even recognized it. Now nothing recognizes it, namely my previous phone.
Any way to salvage it? I tried to plug it into the pc directly but no dice. Possible that the converter card was not sdhc compatible.
Suggestions?
The card is not recognized when you plug it into the PC? Methinks it's a bunk card instead of the phone borking it.
maybe, but it was a bit too coincidental being as I have been using the card since november.
When I had that problem, I went and got the thing formatted by a digital camera and it came back to life.
It's worth trying if you have one handy at least.
GPARTED is the answer to all your formatting needs... Seriously, download it, throw it in your computer, and restart. Should boot into it.
Thanks for the great feedback. I'll let y'all know how it goes when I get back to my comp.
you might of formated it as ext instead of fat
One trick is to format the card in a camera, then back to your phone.
Also, what brand card is it? Transcend has an auto-format utility that may fix your card. Also Transcend has a lifetime warranty for flash type cards and will replace your card with a new one, you just need to start an RMA on their website and mail it in.
Installed Fresh 0.2 and was FC like mad, then finally no sd card. I then ran RUU to back to stock with no problems. Started to use mybackup and would not work. The phone reported a blank sd card, formatting failed to report any actions, not sure about this but thought something would display ie progress. Removed it and put it in my Windows7 64bit desktop and nothing, showed disk but not formatted. Put it in my Windows7 32bit Netbook and all was good. Back into phone and Astro showed everything was there, I am at a loss here but something is going on with these SD cards or the rom! Weird business this is!
download the SD Format tool?

Was this the 8GB card that came with your Evo?
It was the one that came with it. I gave my son the Hero with an 8gig thinking I was good. It is a Scandisk so figured it was ok, same as Hero anyway. I tried the SD formatter, older version I see so thanks for that update. Just weird that nothing worked until I put it in the Netbook with 32bit 7.

[Q] SD card not letting me add or delete files

I've been spending waaay to much time trying to get this phone to work as I had expected with previous phones (even my LG G2x) giving me less problems. I recently bought a Sandisk 32gb, class 10 micro sd card and after transferring old music, pictures and videos from my old LG G2x with a 16gb card, placing files from my computer back onto my S4 with the 32gb card is a nightmare! Photos are transferred but too out of order to try and deal with although it's more the music problem that has me bugging. I have some success after putting about 3gb or so onto the new*32gb sd card but after that, the sd card flips out and starts using special characters for file names. Below I attached a screenshot of what I'm going through with another app called V1 Golf for Android. I'm stuck and any help is much appreciated. I can't delete anything on my sd card nor can I add. I've reformatted this card about 4 times now without success. Some say that a Sandisk have been nothing but problems for them, you think a Samsung card could be the fix?
I'm also running windows 7 on my computer as some people have said that could interfere with the transfer but it seems like that's not the problem being that downloading apps from google play shows corrupted files depicted below.

First, did you format this 32gb sdcard using fat32, exFAT or NTFS or ?
If you did not format it with fat32 then that could have caused the problem.
First you need to remove the card from the phone and plug it into your
computer using the adaptor which came with the microsd card so it can be
tested and repaired in windows.
Once the card is plugged into the computer and it's recognized by windows make note of the drive letter.
Then open a cmd prompt in windows by going to the start menu clicking on RUN then type "CMD" and click OK to open the DOS prompt.
Then in the black DOS window type: chkdsk E: /F then press "enter" to scan and fix errors on your microsd card.
NOTE: The E: is just an example, check the actual drive letter of the sdcard which is plugged into the computer.
Please note, doing the above will not delete any files or folders unless they are deemed unusable and cannot be fixed.
The chkdsk will NOT not format your microsd card.
Good luck!

Unfortunately I ran into a very similar situation with a 64gb SanDisk card. After several months of using it successfully without issue, out of nowhere some 20 gigs of data were stuck. It seems that 1 file in a nandroid was corrupt. After formatting, re-partitioning, deleting etc, etc. with Windows 7 as well as MiniTool Partition Wizard I was unable to ever get the corrupt file to delete. Thus leaving the $60+ card useless and a prime candidate for the trash. I chalked it up too a "bizarre" instance. I have since purchased 2 64gb cards, one to replace and one for my new S4. Haven't had the issue since (knock on wood). Not sure what the exact culprit was, the recovery? (TWRP), a freak occurrance? or Just a defective card? If you have any luck saving your card please post how you did. Although I realize this probably isn't helpful except to know your not the only one.
My sd card seems to be stuck.
About 20 of 64 gb being used.
Now I can't delete anything. Or add anything.
It appears to delete and then it just comes back.
Does that mean my sd card is dead.
scandisk 64gb
Had the same thing just happen to me. Transferred a few kernel files yesterday and today couldn't delete, add or format anything. I was able to copy all files to computer but that's it.
same thing happen to my sandisk 64gb class 10 microsdcard as well
is it a virus?
I had the exact same issue with a San-disk 64gb micro sdcard, I contacted San-disk, they offered me a replacement card.I suggest you do the same, hopefully they will exchange it for you.

You can use another SD card to try whether this sd card is dead.
If anothe SD card can delete files, it proves that this sd card is dead, vice versa.
Did your problem solve? I'm experiencing now like with your problem. And I'm looking for an answer.
