[Q] Which part of MOB has a problem with overheating - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

g`Day..Mine Desire A8181 has overheating problemm last 6 month. Its PVT1 ship S-ON.
I can not send it to HTC because he had violated the void seals. Now Im looking for part of MOB that that contains a processor. In htcrepairparts.com there is a full MOB in stock. Is anybody know what part is causing the problem of overheating?

are you talking about overheating to the point where it restarts? i think all desires heat up a lot in general. I've noticed that when im using it while its charging the battery can heat up to over 40 degrees celcius, try installing an app or widget that shows you the battery temp so you can monitor the situation and see when this happens.

mine is doing the same thing randomly. at times in the middle of a call & it reboots
or if i'm browsing through my apps.
i've downloaded a temp monitor app on USB to pc as most of the day it is 34C/93F
40C it reboots & continues to try until it's cooled enough. 39C it allows to reboot.

Is your device overclocked? If it is it might be a good idea to underclock it using an app like SetCPU, that will definately keep your cpu temp lower.

No mine desire freez on HTC logo and cannot boot anything. It happens after OTA upgrade to Froyo 2.2 and now i have HBOOT 0.93. I tried some methods of downgrade HBOOT but nothings helped. Now I thing to change a part of MOB that may cause the overheat issue - to prevent freezing and rebooting device. When it was working desire may take 40C and then reboot, but when I used GPS it rebooted within 5 and more sec.

I wrote a letter to the HTC to clarify the situation with the reboot. In response, was asked what I was doing with the phone before he began to reload. Because the serial number shows that the device is locked by the T-Mobile. Should I look for t-mob stock ROM if device was unlocked and I have goldcard?

Very battery temp..

I recently purchased htc desire wvga screen froyo.. hboot 0.93
Frm the very first day i hv been experiencing very high batery temps..
Other day the temp reached 43 degrees while on charging.. i check temp using testing code *#*#4636#*#*
When not charging then also temp is between 38-40 degrees..
Heard a lot of ppl r facing battery temp prblm..
Do i need to send my phone to htc or is there any workaround..
Using advanced application killer to keep running apps to minimum..
Also i tried rooting the phone using unrevoked 3, after installing appropriate hboot drivers.. but keep getting stuck at "waiting for device"
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i had this problem in the beginning but then after three weeks or a month my temp got normal
as for the root
you have to install htc sync and let it connect with your desire at least once then un-install it
then try again to work
remember to enable usb debugging on your device
and run the reflash tool as an administrator

STOP USING TASK KILLERS!!!
That's what bringing the temp up so high...
As for rooting, there's plenty of guides in the development section, like:

[Q] Telus Desire - Navigation Overheat/Reboot.

I have a Telus HTC Desire, S-OFF, CM7 r2 HBOOT, running RCMix S (tested with both 2.0 and 2.0.1).
On a recent road trip, using Navigation, after about 30 minutes on the road, my Desire rebooted. After taking it off my universal mount, I felt that the lower part of the phone was very hot. I have done numerous other tests with Navigation (mobile data on, bluetooth connected to car kit, obviously GPS on), and it keeps overheating within 20-30 minutes usage.
I've read a few threads here about Desires overheating when using the GPS, I was wondering if any other Telus users have experienced this problem?
After many overheats, I decided to put my Desire back to stock to warranty it (I've heard the motherboard needs to be changed..).
I am now S-ON, stock HBOOT, and back to a Telus RUU. Now I can't seem to make the phone overheat under the same circumstances.
So I'm wondering... Is it because of the RCMix S rom (overclocking??)? Should I still try to warranty it? And have any other Telus users experienced similar (with stock rom or otherwise)?
Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks.

I have the same problem. I'm not on Telus, obviously, since I'm from Serbia. I'm on Telenor. Every rom i tried, including the mentioned RCMix S, LeeDrOiD, Cool Sensation, Cool Sense, Cool BravoS v1, and even Oxygen and dev null. Everytime when GPS is working, it just overheats and restarts. Maps or navigation working or not, it just restarts and loops until i pull out the battery and let it cool down. Does anybody know the solution to that?
Some help would really be appreciated.
Just a quick reply here for you guys,
I'm on Telus as well an have done numerous road trips with my Desire. Nav (GPS) running, music to car speakers through bluetooth, and the odd call to my Wife, fuel log entry etc.
I did notice the phone get warm but what concerned me was the phone not charging.
There is a thread on here about it, and after a quick search I couldn't find it so I take no credit for this but:
The thread pointed out that sometimes the desire, when plugged into an AC outlet in car mode would not go into ac chrge mode (1 ma charge). It would go into usb charge mode instead. Because of this the battery would run down quickly. The solution was set up your phone, once in it's cradle, leaving it plugged in power down.......wait.......reboot.....and it would then properly enter ac charging mode.
I tested this and it works, after an 8 hour BC road trip with everything running (and screen max brightness the whole time) my battery was still 100%, and as well my phone was not hot.
Can't remember if this was a gingerbread issue, custom kernel issue, etc. Like I said, quick response, I would have to search more to provide a more detailed answer.......but try this anyways.
I have a Telstra gsm desire running runnymede 5.3 with latest snq kernel and get the same prob. Have tried lots of roms only one that navigation works on without overheat reboot is miui roms. Shame cause I really like sense 3.5, and runnymede 5.3 is amazing smooth and fast so would love a fix for this bug.

[Q] Normal Stability?

Hello all. Ever since I got my EVO, I've been experiencing random restarts, even before I was rooted. Right now, I am running CM7.1 and Tiamat from kernel manager, and I probably have to do about 8 restarts and 5 battery pulls a day, no matter how often I use the phone. For instance, today I woke up and had to do a battery pull because the screen would not turn on. The light was also still orange despite the battery being fully charged. I unplugged it at about 8 in the morning and by 10 with no use, I had to pull the battery again because the screen was frozen off once again. Once I got it back on, the battery was down to 80%. I tried using it and half the apps would force close immediately, so I restarted... You get the picture. Some roms have been better than others, and kernels don't seem to make any difference, and I figured it was about normal. Then, I installed what is supposed to be a really buggy CM7 on my touchpad, and have only had to restart it once in the past 2 days, which makes me question how stable my phone actually should be. Does it seem like I should take it in to sprint, or is my experience about normal?
I also never overclock because of my already poor battery life and have tried underclocking, but don't see any noticible difference
bump. should I post somewhere else?
Run an RUU but stay s-off for the moment and see if the problem persists. If your phone begins working properly, then you can flash a recovery and flash whatever rom you want - but don't restore your backup. I'd start totally fresh if RUUing fixes your problems, don't restore your apps and data, just download them from the Market as you need them.
If the RUU doesn't help and the problem continues, take it in to Sprint. It's up to you if you want to s-on before taking it in - I've never heard of anyone getting problems from Sprint with s-off but without root, but I think it's a general rule to do so.
I hope everything works out for you!

I have heard and seen on here many times that random reboots are caused by battery problems, and bad software installs. Try calibrating the battery, also use battery monitor widget to see what ur batt temps are. Then reinstall all your apps, do not restore them then see if that helps.

I'll try an RUU when I get enough time to do some thorough testing. I have reinstalled everything directly from the market multiple times since I've had the phone, and also have used a total of four batteries with no change in behavior. I Will try the RUU soon though. Thanks for the replies

[Q] ARHD 7.0.2 "Phone" process keeping CPU at 100%

Hi everyone,
I just flashed ARHD 7.0.2 on my Desire HD last night and I'm experiencing the following problem:
The CPU remains at 99-100% all the time, the battery drains excessively fast and the phone gets really hot.
Using "Watchdog Lite", I detected that when the CPU does not stay at 100% (after a battery-pull), the "Phone" process uses 0,0% of CPU.
However, for some reason, after a while it will jump up to 80-90% and stay there, causing the CPU to go berserk.
I suppose the heat-issue comes from the fact that the cpu works all the time at 100%.
The battery drain issue comes also from the CPU.
However, I do not know why the Phone process would suddenly go crazy and use that much cpu - and keeps doing it until the battery is dead.
I'm thinking it is because the ARHD 7.0.2 ROM is actually a stock Sensation XL base and thusly requires another RIL than the one that was on it before that.
Before flashing another RIL or radio I would like it very much if somebody could confirm that the fact that the Phone process goes crazy like that could very well be linked to the fact that the RIL and Radio don't match.
It seems obvious, but I don't know enough of the inner workings to verify this, so therefor: this thread
Thanks in advance to all!
sstm
The RIL should be pretty standard between HTC devices so that shouldn't cause any issues. Did you do a full wipe before the install?
Hello TransientMotion,
Yes I did a full wipe, I even cleared the battery stats for good measure.
I even formatted my SD-card to make sure nothing remained from some app somewhere.
The phone is as if I'd have bought it fresh out of the store with ARHD 7.0.2 on it (and rooted of course)
It's just weird to see that the "Phone" process is using this much cpu, even when on Airplane mode.
Thanks for you reply,
sstm
It may be worth trying out an earlier version of the rom just to see what happens. I used 6..3.1 before I switched over to ICS and never had any major problems with it. If that works fine then try newer versions until you get glitches again or it works without the drain
Hey,
I just found out that it is Llama (kebabApp 'location aware' application) who is causing the problem.
Whenever I leave an area and then re-enter it, the CPU goes berserk and stays that way as if some loop can never be interrupted.
I didn't have this problem on ARHD 6.3.1, but I didn't have the same Llama configuration on it either so I tried the Llama config on ARHD 6.3.1 and it did the exact same thing: cpu 100% and slowness all over.
So conclusion: Llama config is the culprit.
Anyways, thanks for you help TransientMotion.

Overheating restarts problems

My One X (international version) face overheating which leads to restart
here is the common situation, I use my phone for watching videos, playing a game or web browsing, then I put the phone into my poket, after 10 minutes or so, I feel the vibration and finding that the mobile is restarting and it is hot in the back upper area (around camera lens)
that was happening due to some heavy gaming, but now even for the smallest tasks (viewing some pics for half hour), and in my pocket the restart, which could happen twice a day or so
I was using a leather cover and afterward did not use it, thinking it might keep the mobile from releasing its temperature
is that ordinary? I like HTC since My desire but now I think of selling it, lose some money and Buy SIII (I'm not big fan of Samsung though)
I'm on the stock OS not rooted
any thoughts?
Are you using a custom ROM ? You can also try downloading CPU Spy and see how your CPU behaves.

no I'm not even rooted the phone yet
Have you try to update the root with the last official RUU ?
Maybe It could help you. Versions 2.xx are better for this.
An other thing. It can come from a software running in background.
You can try to hardreset your phone and reinstall software one by one, with time between two installations to find wath app causing the problem. To see if your cpu work in background, install cool CPU or something else. You will see if the CPUs are busy while your on the home.
If you don t want to hard reset, you can try to uninstall all software, but I think it s less good.
Before uninstalling, try to find the application causing overheating with task manager.
Hope it s can help. Don t hesitate to thanks me
Stupid question but are you running at full brightness all the time (this heats up the phone).
Get hold of 'better battery stats' and check if any app is eating the battery
