(ROM) GingerBaked (CM7 source based AOSP-like ROM) - myTouch 4G Android Development

I take no credit for this other than building it and uploading it. This is 100% based off of code from Team Douche. Special thanks to cyanogen, Zinx, and Kmobs for giving us such great code to work with. Special thanks to Gridlock32404 for all the help he's provided me with android in general.
This is basically the same as the CM7 Alpha roms, but with all of CMParts and CM Settings removed.
http://www.multiupload.com/DU6VR2OMH7 (GingerBaked)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16719351/gapps-newmarket.zip (gapps)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11228290/recovery.img (ClockworkMod 3 Recovery)
If you haven't already been running a CM7 Alpha, you'll need to manually flash a new recovery image since 2.3 based roms are not compatible with the current recovery found in ROM manager.
Download the recovery image posted above, and flash using fastboot.
$adb reboot bootloader
$fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img (replace path/to/ with the actual path to where you downloaded the recovery image)
If you'd rather flash the recovery from the emulator follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=361
once you have the new recovery, install the ROM through recovery as you normally would. You'll need a full wipe. After flashing the ROM, you'll need to flash the gapps posted above. Thanks to Grankin01 for putting those together.
Also, if you decide to go back to a froyo rom, you'll need to flash the old recovery. If you need help flashing the recovery,
check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852905
Also, if you are having trouble with adb/usb drivers check out the below thread by b16a2smith
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896206
Known Issues for this ROM are the same as all of the current CM7 alpha builds.

Wow thanks for this. And this is the real deal, proper credits and all. Unlike some previous ones. Will be flashing this one soon.

After initial boot, this ROM boots quickly. I did attempt to open the wifi calling, just opened and closed. Gonna load the rest of my apps and test the camera

The lack of credit is why I put this together in the first place.

So if the issues are the same and what not and its just cm parts removed, what are the benefits of this vs cm7 ...?

well obviously its for people who want a more original themed GB rom instead of having all the CM stuff.

what can we expect from this ROM that would differ from the other CM7 thread? i dont understand the necessity of fragmentation on a particular ROM unless each iteration has its own unique features that sets it apart from the next...

It's being checked out now

So basically this is just like the first CM Alpha that was released, but just with recent stuff? I remember the first Alpha had no CM stuff.

It is very simple. This is a close to AOSP ROM with CM base and Framework, just all the CM stuff removed. So you get a more pure Gingerbread feeling ROM like the Nexus S shipped with. Obviously it is not compiled on the original source yet but you get the same kind of experience.
Everybody has different taste. This is more of a very light ROM

from what I've read it appears it would be like Running eVil D's MT4G-G2 ROM as opposed to CM 6.1.2 RC2.
GingerBaked and MT4G-G2 = Pure Vanilla Android
CM 7 and CM 6.1.2 RC2 = Tweaked / Modded Vanilla Android

Rooting can ruin your phone. A bad flash can ruin your phone. The good thing about flashing kernels and I've flash a lot of them, you usually can go back into recovery and flash another one if your device doesn't play well with a particular one.
I am currently running CM7 and. Kernel 2.6.37.4 cm. Looking to switch today

I hear ya. I'm itching to flash it right now, but my wife and one of my sons are enroute to Orlando and I don't want to flash a rom that I'm uncertain of in case I need to contact them or vice-versa. I haven't had a "home phone" in years. We all have smartphones..lol
I went ahead and flashed this rom and then added my 3rd party apps and I must say that i am impressed. It is stable and everything appears to work as it should. I did notice a bug where when you add a pattern lock, the default lock screen no longer displays, not even after a reboot. I just finished making a nandroid backup of it and will definitely use this rom. This is shweeeet!
You can flash an AOSP kernel. The SBC kernels can ruin your phone. I am using tiamat nonsbc aosp kernel with this rom.
Thanks for the info guys! I ended up flashing OMGB rom and like it so far. Do I flash that kernel over the rom then? Do I just find the kernel in one of these threads or is it on ROM Manager?
Thanks

Someone downloaded the compiled CM7 build linked in the dev section, and modified it, just like the devs take the OEM roms, modify them, and flash them (think of the alpha as a stock Samsung rom, and think of one of the other CM7 roms as a rom from adt or team kang, just without making the original much better [not knocking team kang or adt in anyway]).

UPDATE: If you'd like the 1.4a version of the FireFireFire Extended bootloader, download the 1.4.1 flashable zip here and flash in recovery!
UPDATE #2: Uploaded the new 1.4.1 bootloader with the alt-rom set as the primary rom so when you power on the device it boots into the alt ROM without pressing the power button or if you select alternate it boots the "primary" ROM. Find it at the Downloads page

Thanks! And I'm looking through the bootloader coding right now I think it may originate from that with the 3.x kernel... I'll keep looking and repacking What my goal is is to make dual booting the Kindle Fire more popular, and giving people more ideas in what to do with their aging tablet. Out of the 40,000 people that rooted their kindles and installed custom roms on them, only about 1,000 (if even) have heard of dual booting their tablets, let alone actually DO it. I like the dual boot on this because this is one of many of my tablets, and only it can dual boot. I have an iPad 3, Acer a100, Nexus 7, and just got Asus Transformer Prime. So I'm pretty much loaded. I also have a few old tablets collecting dust that have resistive touch screens And too many phones to keep track of..... Anyways my point here is that my Dual Boot Kindle is the tablet I'm gonna bring to my friends and show off because it can do more than my other tablets can.
The main reason I made this thread is to get ideas on what roms I should repack. Please, anyone, make a request! I'm always up for a challenge
Can you make a MIUI Gingerbread rom as a Secondary. Even though I use Stock Secondary, I bet many people would like it.
Is there an miui GB? I never saw that ROM...can you link it
I know there are complications but I'd like to see a JB ROM.....in particular twa_priv's CM10/SGT7.....would love to have CM7 as primary for it's battery friendly properties and a JB secondary for OTG support I don't think OTG was even available other than ICS ROMs and JB right?

You guys do know that a bootloader was compiled that had the alt-rom as the default to load didn't you? Might save with the headache of the 3.x ICS kernel. When my wife reclaims the kindle from our daughter, I'll be flashing that version so I can keep NRG's ICS as Primary w/ modaco as alt for her movie & reading habits. Don't really care to explain how the bootloader works.

[Q] Best CM7 Rom

I've been trying to use the newer Android roms, but there isn't enough ram on any of these for me to do the things I need to do. So I was looking on Thepooch's Kindle Fire Development index and I noticed the four CM7 roms there. Now out of those four (since they are the most recently updated), which one would you recommend?

Yeah I've decided to take the testing into my own hands. So far I've tested Sblood's CM7 Source and Hellfire. Hellfire is admittedly less stable and I can't delete any of the gapps (Hangouts, Google Search, etc.) without the Google Services Framework constantly force closing. But I am able to OC to 1200 and the CM7 Source only lets you OC to 1008. I'm testing Barebones by the end of the week.
Edit: I found two more roms by smirkis:

I don't know. I use COTR and I haven't touched TWRP for over a year. I don't see why it wouldn't though since it's a recovery. I tested all of the first four and so far I like Hellfire the best. I'll test the other two by the end of the week if there hasn't been a fix for CM11.

Use COTR instead of TWRP.

Who made the kernel?
After updating to the latest Mahdi rom and backing up what I had, I flashed the experimental kernel and wiped cache/dalvik.
It wouldn't boot, so I had to restore what I had.
No idea what it was supposed to do.

Yeah, if it said it was for the nexus, it wasn't going to work. Kernels should be device specific, and I am very skeptical of those that have been supposedly ported over, rather than compiled from the device's kernel source and then updated with new options.
Experimental in regards to kernel devevelopment means there are probably issues beyond the norm.

The filename is Mahdi-Hammerhead-exp-4.4.2-v1.7-23-03-2014.zip, but I thought that just meant it was somehow derived from the Nexus 5. Don't know why it would be posted in the Mahdi rom OP if it didn't have a chance of working.
