Epic email app on Evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had an opportunity to play around a bit with a friend's epic today.
The included email client (whatever samsung provides) seemed quite a bit better layed out than the htc one.
Has anyone ported the email client from the epic to the evo?
I'd love to try out. Simply copying the Email.apk file from the epic rom doesn't seem to work.

You would need to ask a dev to port this in the theme and app section.. it would probably take a lot of work as the service.jar , lib files and such would need to be changed to work specifically with the evo...

[Q] Epic Calendar port

I'd like to install the Epics stock calendar app on my EVO... Seems much nicer than the HTC stock...
Tried looking for an APK with no luck so I'm hoping someone might know if one is floating around...
Thanks

[Q] Install stock apps from one phone to another?

Hey all...thanks for looking and possibly answering. Heres my question. The one and only thing I do not like about my Evo is the contacts app. and the dialer. I came over from the iphone and the best thing on it was the combination of the dialer and the contacts, call log and favorites all within one application. I was at best buy and noticed that on a Samsung fascinate the STOCK contacts app is exactly what I have been missing. I found a couple stock apk files for a samsung moment and fascinate from another forum and tried to install on my evo and they would not install. So..guess what my question is...why wont they install? Are they locked so you cant install on different phones? If yes...is there a way around this. Or simply...how do I get the stock contacts apk from a samsung to my Htc evo?
My Evo is rooted
PS...I have spent countless hours searching for this type of contacts app that has everything I want in the market..it does not exist, so please please dont reply look in the market for something similar. I am looking to put this exact stock samsung app on my Evo.
Thanks everyone!
Most of the time these "stock" apps are odexed files, I would suggest getting the system.img file from the phone/rom that has the dialer app you want and extract the odex file AND the apk file for the dialer then run it through an apk deodex script(I'm on a MacBook), then try to install it. Not promising this will work, but give it a shot and if it doesn't pan out politely ask a dev if they can port it, XDA is full of helpful and willing devs, as long as you aren't an ass about it like some people are, let me know if this helps!

+1..... I'd like to see this ported over. I had a Samsung Captivate and I miss my contacts app much better than what I have on Evo.

Anyone had luck on this? I just upgraded to s5 from s2 and want the stock memo widget from s2 installed onto the s5 as the s5 widget can't go smaller than 4x1.
You might have better luck asking in the Samsung forums. The most recent post prior to yours was over three years ago and it doesn't seem that anyone has an answer, that, and the OP was looking for a way to use an app from a non-HTC device on a HTC phone.

Could the Epic Camera be ported or mod'd for the Evo?

Okay... 8 megapixels is cool and all - but after owning both phones, I believe the Evo is better... BUT the camera app/ stock in the Epic IMO is much nicer than the Evos.
My question? Can anyone port or mod the camera software from the Epic to use in the Evo? The Epic has all kinds of goodies included in the apk. I would pay /donate to see this happen. I have all the camera files for the Epic if needed or you could get them from custom rom biuld from the Epic forum for 2.2... LMK your thoughts please. I would rather have 5 megapixels and that camera software than 8 and no special goodies.

When I read your subject line, I at first thought you were asking if you could pry a camera out of the epic and solder it into the Evo. You meant the camera APP.
Given that there are third party camera apps (Vignette, for example), it might be possible. But the question is whether Vignette had to do something specific for the Evo, or if Samsung has done something specific to lock it to their phones. You could try downloading an Epic rom from the forums here, find the camera APK in the ZIP file (probably in system/app), and install it. My hunch would be that it won't work, but it doesn't hurt to try.
I tried that. I took all the files out for the Evo camera from Myn's rsl 5 beta (out of the rom using JZip) and replaced them with the Epic files and apk... It booted and the phone works - no problem - but no camera app. It must be specific to the Epic. There has to be a way? Even to make it like an app? To just install on any android? I'm writing this from my Galaxy Tab and it has the same camera app...
The Samsung has panorama, beauty shot, add myself, etc. And the close ups are much sharper.

[Q] Borrowing from Motoblur possible?
Hello.
I'm considering getting the Epic 4g, but was wondering if it's at all possible to 'borrow' from Motoblur, specific elements at least. I've grown accustomed to using the Motoblur UI (and has become my personal favorite), and making the move to Sprint, would cause a loss from me as Sprint does not offer Motorola Android phones.
The 'elements' I had in mind were:
- UI (Theme, Easy enough to simulate, possibly easy enough to rip)
- SMS/Contacts/Dialer, the whole integration between these apps, possibly. (If not, I would be happy if the SMS app worked on its own.)
- Connected Media Player
- The gallery app that was present in Cupcake - MotoBlur
- the built-in File explorer
I assume the Epic uses the same TouchWiz present on other Samsung phones, and all of the other apps, I can work with.
(I was personally never a big fan of Samsung phones, after owning 4 others, and having quite a number of issues with each. Sprint's Android selection is a little limited however. At least Samsung is higher in my book than HTC or LG. I'm not moving to Sprint for phone selection though, it's the cost benefit.)
EDIT: Move this if you can. The way my mind worked was that I saw the option to make this thread a question *After* the fact, and after I posted, I THEN saw the Sticky about the Q'nA Section. My bad.
...and now I have to wait 5 minutes to repost, so someone might see this before I can catch my mistake.

UI - You can have the blur homescreen by downloading Helauncher from the market, and switching to it in the setings.
Sms - Maybe Handcent sms, go sms, or chomp sms
I can't help with the other stuff.

Gmail widget?

Recently got an Epic 4G Touch, still running the stock Gingerbread ROM in anticipation of an ICS OTA coming soon.
In the meantime, though...did anyone ever find a way to get a gmail widget onto Gingerbread? I know one was added in Honeycomb, so I presume it's in ICS as well. Since people seem to rip stuff from other phones and ROMs all the time, I'm curious if anyone ever managed to grab a working gmail widget. The stock email and widget kinda suck.
My understanding is that there's something in the gingerbread Gmail code that stops it. Killed tons of custom wigdets
