[GUIDE]How to format your SD Card in Windows for use with A2SD - HD2 Android NAND Development

How to format your SD Card in Windows for use with A2SD
So without using any pmagic/gparted.iso or whatsoever
Since we have different guides around now about how to format your SD card via a bootable image i thought it might be handy to have a guide about how to format your SD card in Windows
The things you need:
SD Card
Android A2SD+ rom
Paragon Partition Manager DOWNLOAD HERE , Easus DOWNLOAD HERE ( Or any other Partition Software )
In this guide i will use Paragon Partition Manager, but it will probably work 99% the same with other partition software
Step 1:
Format your SD Card as FAT32 ( no Quick Format ) and boot up your phone. ( Android will now put some default files on it.. Don't delete these files
Step 2:
Put the SD card in your PC's cardreader or reboot your phone into MAGLDR and pick option 3. USB MassStg
Open up your partition software ( in this case Paragon Partition manager )
Step 3:
You will notice that you will see your SD card as probably 1 FAT32 Partition.
Click the right mouse button on your SD card's FAT32 partition and click Move/Resize Partition
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 4:
Now move the the Partition's Size from right to left until you get the "Unallocated space" you want for your Apps..
If you don't understand what i mean you can do this since it's easier/quicker: In the box "Please specify size of free space after the partition" enter the amount of space (MB) you would like to have for your Apps. ( 1024MB (1GB) should be enough for most users )
IMPORTANT: Make sure you put this in the box that says After the Partition and not Before the partition and then it will look similiar to the image below:
Step 5:
Now you will notice you will have 1 FAT32 partition and 1 "Unallocated" partition..
Right click on this "Unallocated" partition and click Create Partition
A new window will open.
In this window you can define what kind of partition you want to create. Make sure it will look similiar to the image below (Size may differ)
Step 5 Notes:
So what are these options?
Create new partition as: Here you can pick if you want to create a Primary, Extended or Logical partition. In this case we need a Primary partition
Please specify new partition size: Here you can put in the amount of space you want the partition to be. Make sure this is set to the maximum amount. ( in this case 1019MB )
Please select file system for new partition: Here you can pick the file system for the partition. (FAT32/NTFS etc. etc.) In this case we need a 'Linux Ext 2' partition. ( Some roms have problems with Ext 3/Ext 4 partitions )
Step 6:
Now you have to click the
button in the menu and your partition(s) will be created.
When this is done you can put back your SD card into your phone ( or quit USB Mass Storage mode in MAGLDR ) and reboot your phone.
From now on you will notice you have a acceptable amount of free space on your phone.
If you install apps to your phone you will notice your phone's storage won't decrease
If your phone's storage does decrease when installing apps just reboot your phone and it should be fine by then
I hope this is clear to everybody and if there any questions just reply and i will reply you back a.s.a.p.

But what is the best option??? ext2,3 or 4?
I have a ext4 partition, with gparted.... but i dont know if it is really better ....
After that, i have installed the clockwork, installed zip build, but stopped in logo and never worked.... and i dont know if the cause is my ext4 partition ....
I have the mdj froyo revo with a2sd+ (not clockwork) working perfect...
Thanks.

nice guide, easy to follow.
IMO ext2/3 is the best, as they are supported by alot of roms.

You probably went wrong at Step 4 with resizing the partition...
You now have 1GB Fat32 and the rest Unallocated/EXT2 i suppose?
To change this you have to resize the Unallocated/EXT2 partition to 1GB or whatever size you want it to be and after that you can resize your FAT32 partition to the maximum size.

Same problem here! It sees my card but it says not formatted and i can't format it in paragon.
Maybe because it's the free edition?
My ntfs windows partition is recognized correct!

In the free version you can only format virtual disks..

How do I know if I have successfully partitioned the SD card? I followed the steps but I don't think it is working. I rebooted the phone, installed new apps, then I used ES File Explorer to browse the content of my SD card. I don't see any folder in there with all my apps installed.

[GUIDE][9-JAN] How to partition your SD card correctly for APPS2SD+ ROMS.

UPDATE: The GUIDE has been updated to the smallest detail you should have no problems partitioning your card if You just CAREFULLY read and follow the instructions.
UPDATE: Since some people can't seem to make this work with gparted live cd there is another solution, You can use pmagic.iso. In basic's it's the same procedure (heck it also the same gparted only put into a more friendly enviroment). The reason that i'm posting this it's because you don't even need the cd you can start it from a flash drive. U just have to make a bootable usb flash and put in bios to start from usb in boot options
The link for download is here
The link for how to make a bootable usb here
The procedure is simple just install chose from the list parted magic and read the tutorial from the donload page
Some roms have the problem with the ext4 just use ext3 or ext2 partition.The safest one is ext2 and ext2 is the slowest way to wear off your card. I haven't tried all roms just ask in that section.
And as always i'm not responsible for any damage that may occur while doing this.
And ui updated the link for downloading the gparted
Originally by Sentinel196 i qouted him and made things a little simpler 'cause people like screenshots . I've just aded screenshots because im lazy and don't like to type much . All the credit goes to him i just inserted screenshots for better understanding. And sorry for the misstypes i'm not use to type from my nettop .
It seems many people are having issues partitioning their SD card for use with Apps2SD+ ROMS using the additional EXT4 partition.
Here is a guide to the method that worked for me. I am not responsible for any loss of data on your phone or PC as a result of following this guide. Read the steps clearly and understand them BEFORE you do anything. Failure to understand the steps involved could see you wiping data from your PC's hard drive with no warning messages to tell you what you are about to do. You have been warned!
Firstly, I couldn't get Partition Wizard for Windows to work. If anyone else has been successful with it please let me know and I will update this post.
Before you start, BACK UP all your data from the SD card. It will all be erased from your SD card during this process.
Although this works on a phone which has already been flashed with an APPS2SD+ compatible ROM. I strongly suggest starting with a freshly flashed ROM with no apps installed before doing this to ensure ALL additionally downloaded and installed apps are installed on to the partition, leaving the maximum possible storage space remaining on your phone.
Here are the steps....
1. Download a copy of GPARTED-LIVE from here. Use your favourite CD burning software to burn the image to CD. The image is bootable so make sure you do not leave the CD as open session when you burn it. This is the software we will use to partition the SD card later on.
2. Start with a freshly formatted SD card with a single FAT32 partition. This can be created using whatever tool you prefer. Use the default cluster size setting. I use the Disk Management tool in Windows under Administrative Tools in Control Panel. You can perform this step by inserting the SD into your PC or mounting it on your PC via the phone.
YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING FROM GPARTED JUST BACKUP YOUR DATA AND UNMOUNT YOUR CARD AND PUT IT IN A CARD READER OR VIA MAGICLDR)
DO NOT COPY ANY FILES OVER TO THE SD CARD YET. Android will have copied over its standard files after formatting so do not delete these, but don't add anything else yet.
WAIT UNTIL EVERYTHING IS LOADED THEN INSERT THE CARD READER OR MOBILE WITH SELECTED MASS STORAGE IN MAGICLOADER THEN IN GPARTED GO ON REFRESH DEVICES OR JUST REFRESH OR CTRL + R WHAT EVER IS SHOWN OR WHICH EVER IS EASIER FOR YOU. iN THE RIGHT UPPER CORNER YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR PRIMARY HARD DRIVE SELECTED CLICK ON IT AND SELECT YOUR CARD IT SHOULD SAY 2,4,8 OR 16 GB APPROXIMATLY. After that you shuldn't have any problems with your card not detecting or what so ever.
Thanx to milton007 for pointing out this
3. With the SD card now recognised by the PC, reboot your PC from the GPARTED-LIVE CD you burned in step 1. This may take a while to load depending on your PC. Follow the on screen prompts until GPARTED loads correctly.
4. With GPARTED now loaded, select your SD card using the selection in the top right hand side of the GPARTED window. Ensure you have selected the correct storage device by ensuring the capacity is reported correctly. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO MES WITH YOUR COMPUTERS HAR DRIVE!! If you are not sure at this stage, please do not proceed as you risk wiping data from your PC. GPARTED will not warn you if you are about to damage system files as you might expect it to.
5. Once selected, you should see a single FAT32 partition displayed with a chart which span the top of the window. The easiest way is to delete all partitions on the card
right click on the partition and delete click yes
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
6. Right click in the unallocated space you created in the chart and click "Create" or new. A new dialog box should appear. First partition will be fat32 and it must be primary into column space after input 1024 because that you will leave for the ext4 partition. Click OK Right click in the unallocated space you created in the chart and click "Create" or new.
Modify the settings so that the partition is "Primary" not "Logical" and set it to "ext4". Leave the cluster size set to "default". Click OK.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
7. Back in the main GPARTED screen, you should now see two partitions in the chart, the first being your original FAT32 partition and then to the right is your new EXT4 partition. Click "APPLY" and the changes will be made to the SD card. THIS IS IMPORTANT as no changes are made to your SD card until you click apply. If you miss this step, you will have to start over from step 6 again.
8. Once changes are reported as completed, shut down your PC and remove the SD card. Insert it into your PC and boot the phone. If you connected your SD to the PC via MAGLDR, press the power/hang up key to return to the main menu and choose to boot from NAND.
DONE!!!!!!!
Once the phone is booted (may take a little longer than usual) go back to SETTINGS - SD & PHONE STORAGE and you should see your phone's available storage reported as around 20-40MB less than the total storage capacity. This will vary between different ROMS. Don't expect it to read any higher than it did before you did this if you haven't installed any apps yet.
Check to see that your SD storage is reported as the correct size corresponding with the new size of your FAT32 partition.
Now go ahead and install your apps. You will notice that the phone storage capacity does decrease as you install apps, but the next time you reboot, it should jump back up again. That's what happens on my phone anyway.
Once you are satisfied that all is well, you can connect your SD to the PC again and copy across your data to the FAT32 partition.
Another thing to note is that you don't need to format the EXT4 partition when changing ROMS. As it only stores the applications, when booting for the first time with a new APPS2SD+ supported ROM, it will automatically show up with all your apps and widgets installed. Preferences and widgets will need to be reset however.
I hope this guide helps. Thanks again to all the amazing developers here at XDA who make all this possible, as well as the wonderful community of volunteers and members who keep this show running.
If i helped you can always press thanks

Can I un-partition my SD card with GPARTED?
Hmm..i followed your guide,but i ran into these problems:
1:couldn't make it a logical partition this option was inactive,until i first created an extended partition then made a logical partition out of that one.
2:At the end of the process i had a FAT32 partition which my main one with all the space,an extended partition with 1gb and the EXT4 partition with the same 1gb from the extended one,but now my SD won't show on my phone anymore,although i could access it from my PC using a Card reader and it shows the new space for the FAT32 partition that i created. any ideas?!

Yup, use step 9. as reference, right click the ext4 partition and instead of create select delete (or remove dunno never used gparted on live cd just ubunutu) then it should appear as unalocatted space, now drag the arrow so that the fat32 partition uses the whole space... other way should be to remove both partitions (fat32 and ext4) and then create a unique fat32 partition in the whole unallocated space....

I supposed it support app2sd.
Well i repartitioned my SDCard once again but this time ext4 partition is created as primary(fat32 also primary) not Extended->Logical partition. Now it shows Total and Available Space correctly instead of unavailable, but still unsure whether Android is using the ext4 parition or not.
I think we will need the OP's point of view on this,at the mean time,why don't you try installing some apps and see if the EXT4 working or not?!
Edit:Oh,and also you download Android Commander it's a Windows application,you can tell if your phone is using EXT4 or not.

[TUTORIAL][Link2SD][ROOT]Updated! How to prep your SD card for it...Windoze Style

Rather than recreate the wheel...
Here is the developer's thread on Link2SD
Read it thoroughly!!!
Here are some links on Ext2, Ext3 and Ext4 file systems and why Ext 4 is preferable over Ext2 if you can do it with your ROM's kernel.
Ext2
Ext3
Ext4
Here's a debate over which to use. You be the judge and go with what makes sense for you.
What I'm going to take you through is creating the second partition on your SD card to be able to use it. We are going to use Minitool Partition Wizard Pro Home Edition (Freeware) to do this on a Windows machine.
There are other ways to do this including Linux, from recovery, etc, but this is a free and simple method that DOES NOT LOSE YOUR EXISTING SD CARD DATA!!!
First things first!
Repeat after me...
1/ I have a stock kernel in my ROM. My ROM only supports FAT32 and Ext2 for the second partition and I will not format it Ext4 and then come asking why it's not mounting correctly! I will format it Ext2 for best performance.
2/ I am not S-OFF or HTCDev unlocked AND rooted. I will NOT come asking if this will work or WHY it's not working at all!
3/ I WILL NOT TRY MOUNTING MY PHONE AS A HARD DRIVE TO DO THIS. I WIL READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND USE A CARD READER!
So the prerequisites are:
1/ HTC Dev Unlocked OR S-OFF
2/ Permanently rooted
3/ A windows machine with Minitool Partition Wizard Pro Home Edition (Freeware) Installed or Hirens Boot CD which has a bootable windows version with PWPH installed on it.
4/ An SD card appropriate for the job. The faster the better! For 16 and 32 GB I really do recommend splurging on the Class 10...
Steps:
1/ Boot up your Hirens or Windows machine
2/ Make sure that Show Hidden Files and Folders is ON so you can see some of the hidden folders present on an android system's SD card
3/ Insert your Micro SD card into a reader and attach it to the computer
4/ Make a folder on your computer and back up your entire SD card's main partition to it including hidden files and folders JUST TO BE SAFE. (Remember if you do this right you won't have to lose your card's contents, unlike the recovery method.
5/ Install Partition Wizard Pro Home Edition or check that its on your Hiren's bootable windows cd
6/ Run Partition Wizard Home Edition.
7/ Look for your SD card along the bottom and identify your FAT32 Partition

}
8/ Right click on it and choose "Move/Resize Partition"
9/ Use the down arrow in the middle field "Partition Size:" to change the value and consequently the value of the "Free Space After: field as well until you have created around 1027 MB of free space. *Warning - Do not create free space before the first primary FAT32 partition!!! If you do discard changes and start over!
10/ Click "OK"

11/ Identify the new unallocated space on the drive map.
[IMG]http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachdl/a02e4cb4e27a14095eaa8347118e31e7/4f4cec81/8/4/5/7/6/6/Shot_1_Basic_FAT32_and_unallocated_space.jpg
12/ Right click on it and choose "Create"
13/ When you get the warning about the partition not being able to be used in Windows click "Yes" to continue
14/ Choose Ext2, Ext3 or Ext4 for partition type based on whether your kernel supports Ext4. If it does choose it! If you don't know choose Ext2 to be safe. I would avoid Ext3 unless you have to. 2 or 4 are preferred
*NOTE!!! You cannot resize an Ext partition after you make it. You can only move it around so choose your size wisely! I find a GB to be plenty and I have 150+ linked apps with 360 MB free on SD card partition 2 but you can have up to 2 GB.
15/ Make sure it is a primary not a logical partition
16/ Name it if you want.
17/ Click "OK" to continue
18/ Click the BIG "Apply" button in the top left of the window
19/ Choose "Yes" to continue from the pop up
20/ Let it do it's work.
Congratulations! Step 1 Complete!
Now to step 2:
1/ Eject and place your SD card back into your phone
2/ Boot up your phone
3/ Install Link2SD from the Android Market
4/ Run it
5/ On first run it will ask you the type of partition your second SD card partition is. Choose Ext2 or Ext4 depending on which you made it.
6/ Follow the directions to reboot your phone
Congratulations! Link2SD is now working on your phone!
When you click the menu button in Link2SD and choose "Storage Info" you should see three memory spaces. Internal, SD Card, and SD Card 2nd Part.
At this point I recommend you Menu click and go to Settings and choose "Autolink" to automatically link programs (.APK), dalvik cache files (.DEX) and library files (libs) to your SD Card 2'nd partition when a new program is installed.
Now for some strategy!
You say, "I've got all this external space! Why bother putting any programs on the internal space?"
Well...SPEED MAN! SPEED!
I keep Launchers, Widgets, Background processes like Titanium Backup, etc, on the internal as space allows to allow for speed when booting. The internal memory is faster than your SD card and keeping these programs here helps a lot in speeding up your boot time. This is an option with Link2SD that you DON'T have with Data2SD or Data2Whatever!
You can also keep commonly accessed programs like Tapatalk for example, on this internal fast memory.
You can also mass move by multi selecting, several programs to and from either internal, SD card, or SD card second partition. Ideal for your initial move to your new second partition of your apps pre-installed prior to link2sd.
People wanted instructions for a third swap so see post two for additional steps.
Troubleshooting:
*If you have issues with your primary SD card partition not working right or perhaps you decided to wipe the whole card and create them both/or all three from scratch, remember that this FAT32 partition 1 has to be set ACTIVE and all partitions have to be primary not logical.
*If you cannot mount Ext2 or Ext4 make the second partition FAT32. It will work for all Wildfire S Models and all ROM's. Try the others first as they are preferred for performance and stability.
*If you don't have a card reader it's been reported that you can use your phone in hard drive mode to achieve the same thing, followed by a reboot but I have heard many cases where this causes troubles so I personally don't recommend it but hey. You gotta do what you gotta do.
*Some users are reporting with MarvelC's that they needed to use Ext3 so I have updated the tutorial to reflect this.
*If you don't immediately see a change in internal memory after linking apps relax. It will show up. Sometimes it just is a little delayed.
That's pretty much it for now.
Enjoy and if this tutorial helped you or you like it, please click "THANKS"!
Add On's and FAQ's
Adding in a Linux Swap If Wanted, Supported, and Needed:
Personally I don't see the use for it but hey. Sometimes people want the kitchen sink included as well right?
1/ Increase your unallocated space in the FAT32 resize to around 1550 MB
2/ Right click on the unallocated space and make your Ext2/Ext4 partition of around 1027 MB
3/ Right click on the remaining unallocated space at the end of the drive and choose Linux swap for partition type. Again make sure it's a Primary and not a Logical parition!
Apply.
Have fun...(And click thanks!

but this topic said u need "3rd-Linux Swap - mine is 512MB" its a 3rd partitio? or how shall i do this? or the 3rd partition is not necessary?and just stay relax, make my sd card as d33ps1x wrote in this thread, and i can easily install that linked ROM with 800mhz processor?

so after create ex2 partition setup link2sd and choose ex2 and all ok ?
Used ext4 for alquez' cm7.
Ext4 is fine for CM7. Recommended. Just make sure you choose it when you first run Link2SD.
I am using it without issues.

You don't NEED a linux swap but just add into the equation
1/ Created 1.5 gb of free space
2/ Create second Ext4 partition
3 Create linux swap partition with remainder of space at end of disk.

thx for help. so actualy the linux swap patition it not necessary. than what for?
without it that rom wont work? (the apps will go to ext4 partition, so what goes for 3rd one?)

It's what it says it is. Memory swap space.
It swaps out rarely used memory pages to the swap to make room for immediate use of active ones.
If your ROM kernel supports it give it a go with and without and see if you notice performance gains in your everyday use.
Google will provide you with lots of info on what a linux swap partition is and it's benefits/detriments.

Thank you. Great tutorial btw. One question - what would you recommend that I keep on the SD card to avoid boot problems?

Problem partitioning my sd card / low internal memory problem

I have been readin a lot about partitioning sd cards. And my problem is that no matter which rom I use (cyanogen, miui), i have a problem with low internal memory. I have read a lot about partitioning sd card to create ext and swap partitions and that should move the apps to the sd and dalvik cache also so that the internal memory is liberated.
However, I've used s2e, a2sd, data2sd, and they all tell me that my apps or dalvik cache can't be moved to the sd because the space is full. Which I know is not. I have tried partitioning my sd card using rom manager and minitool partition. But for some reason I keep getting this message that I don't have enough space. Actually I know there is something wrong with the sd-ext partition because when I backup any rom, at the end of the backup process it says something like "can't mount sd-ext. won't be able to make backup of sd-ext" (something like that).
I know there is something wrong with my partition. The only thing I have not tried is partitioning using clockworkmod, but I haven't done it because when I go to the advance settings I don't have the option to partition my sd card. I have cwm 5.0.2.7. and the option to partition sd card is simply not there!
Another interesting thing I want to add here is that maybe it's not only a problem with the sd-ext partition. I say this because when I try to move an app to the sd card using the phone aplication manager, it gives me the exact same message: "failed to move the application. There is not enough storage space left". And this is weird because this is supposed to move apps to the fat32 part of the sd, which I know is working normally. I can access all my files, music, photos, etc. And there are like 3 gb of free space, but it still tells me that there is not enough space.
What is wrong with this? Is it the SD card? Or is it the partition?? I would love to try to partition my sd card using CWM, but I don't have that option. How can I get that option to try it??
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I can't install more than 7 apps to my phone if I can't fix this low internal memory problem.
Thank you very much!

I have already tried with ext2, ext3, and ext4. The thing is I can't partition my sd card through recovery mode because I don't even have the option to partition sd card. I have CWM-based Recovery v.5.0.2.7-jordan.
I've partitioned my sd card using rom manager. Maybe that's the problem??? I don't know.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It should not be this difficult.

Ok, I have burned gparted to a cd, and I have tried to boot from cd. I know I have to go to bios to rearrange the boot order, but the problem is that it has no option to boot from cd drive.
Unless cd boot means the same as external device, which is the only option I have on my BIOS. Here's the image:

I have enabled external device boot and have placed external device as the priority boot, as seen on the image. But it doesn't make the cd boot. Why is it? Or am I missing something here??
Thank you very much.

Hmm. Well I read that I needed to burn a cd with gparted and then boot it somehow. I thought that's what it meant. I'm guessing I'm wrong... Sorry, I don't know much about these programs.
EDIT: I'm follwing this thread to partition sd card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535914. I will post the results when I'm done.
Ok. I partitioned my sd using gparted. I couldn't do it by burning a cd with it, but using USB worked.
I partitioned my sd card following the steps mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535914
My sd card should now be partitioned correctly. If I'm not wrong, my phone should automatically install apps to the sd-ext partition of my sd card right? Well, my phone still doesn't do this. I have tried to move apps to sd, through s2e, and a2sd and still no luck. not even the phone's application manager moves it to the fat32 part of the sd.. I still get the message that there is not enough storage left.
The thing is, I don't really think that my sd is corrupted or something, because whenever I backup my rom, it doesn't give an error at all. I can access my sd card, move and paste files. So, why is it not working well only for apps?
I'd appreciate any other help. Thank you.
UPDATE: I downloaded a newer version of a2sd and it worked, I was able to move apps to the sd-ext part, and the dalvik cache. I solved the original problem, but it now created another problem.
Now that I have installed this app and working, it makes my IMEI number disappear. Therefore, I have no signal and I have to restore my backup to make my phone work again and show my IMEI number again.
So, I have my phone working with my IMEI, without a2sd, or have a2sd, but then I have on signal because it deletes my IMEI.
Is there a way to fix this?? hmmm.. Please help

Link2SD Tutorial
Developer's Thread
Another Awesome Tutorial
In Simple Words,
Advantages:
You can save space on internal memory.
Disadvantages:
As Samsung phones mount the memory card after boot.. everytime you boot you loose your widgets and sometimes you get mount errors.
UPDATE: In case of mount warnings, update the application and options>recreate mounting scripts. If it still doesn't work try reinstalling link2sd and repeating.
How it works(in simple terms.. not exact)
It links applications on SD card to internal memory(/data)
its like creating a shortcut on desktop rather than saving the application on desktop...
using CWM(Skin's temporary one)
You can also use Mini Tool (tutorial @XDA)
very noob-ish instructions..(if you are too lazy to open the link :| )
Backup your SD card
Copy all its content in a folder(using card reader or USB cable)
Boot into recovery mode by pressing Vol+ + Home + Power
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
choose "Apply Update from SD card">Choose the Skin's Recovery.
(Use volume buttons to navigate up and down.. home to select)
choose Advanced>Partition SD card
Choose partition size(not more than 1GB) and Swap(choose 0M)
Partitioning should start, now you have lost all your data on SD card(thats why we took the backup)
Restart(Reboot System Now from CWM)
connect your USB cable and transfer back all the data..
While this is going on you can jump to the next step
Open Link2SD(or Install it if you haven't)
a Menu should show up, choose ext3
(If it doesn't show up or you close it by mistake, options>more>Recreate mount scripts)
Reboot
It might ask you to do a quick reboot(popup will have a button)
How to link apps
APP should be on internal memory
Tap create link
Check all options
P.S. Try it at your own risk.
Nice post!

read the instructions(anywhere), you were not supposed to move them to SD card..
No, for example: (USING LINK2SD) i will move taptap revenge to my sdcard to free some of my internal memory, it's supposed to be moved on the 2nd partition not on the main storage, but it is moved to main storage, what should i do? :?

There is no fix to that. All you have to do everytime you hard reboot is wait for the scanning to complete. Then look up in your status bar and you will see the "Mount Warning" notification.
Open it and click "Quick Reboot". And you're fine.
It's a minor inconvenience for more space. Besides, it's not like you have to hard reboot every now and then, unless your phone is so messed up it always dies or reboots itself.

Ok, but if ill do a factory wipe, the extenal partition will not be deleted.
Will Link2SD register the apps at the external partition ?
Is there any other solution to fully backup my system ?
Nope. If you wipe the apps will be removed but all its files will still be in the partition.
Currently, no. You can use Titanium Backup.
not any solution that I know about.

INITIAL SETUP
1. Download Link2SD from Google Play Store (previously Android Market)
2. Root your phone (if not rooted)
Verify that you have Custom ROM that supports Link2SD ROMS that support Link2SD (tested by me)
ChobitsDigitalis v1 to v1.6 Update (The best ROM for SGY to date) | (Android Development Section)
Hybrid ROM (Android Development Section)
3. Partition your SD Card. (preferably via MiniTool Partition Wizard 7 or up) for SD cards 2GB or LowerPartition 1:
Label: Android-SD
File System: FAT
Partition Size(in MB): 1536 MB (1.5GB for 2GB SD Cards) or 836MB (for 1GB SD Cards)
Partition 2:
Label: Android-EXT(EXT Number): Ex. Android-EXT2/EXT3 or EXT4
File System: EXT3 (preferable file system)NOTE:
EXT2 is old, EXT4 is the fastest among 3 but not compatible in all ROMS and often requires kernel that supports EXT4, so go for EXT3, fast and mounts on most ROMS.
For SD Cards 4GB and up, IT IS ADVISED NOT TO SET EXT PARTITION SIZE MORE THAN 1GB.
4. Install Link2SD
5. Open Link to SD and select the appropriate file system of your second partition and the tap on OK.
6. Link2SD will require you to restart your phone, do it after step 7.
7. To make sure everything is working fine take a note of your current storage information by tapping on Menu > Storage Info then restart afterwards.
8. After reboot, open Link2SD and filter applist to show User Apps by tapping on the funnel icon and then select User.MOVING APPS TO SECOND PARTITION
9. To move an app to SD's second partition, tap an application and then tap on Create Link. Follow the guideline below:For Applications (Root Apps/Games/Normal Apps), put a check on the following:
Link application file (the .apk file itself)
Link dalvik-cache file
Link library file (if an app have lib files)
For Widgets/Live Wallpapers installed on SD Card by default:
Link application file (the .apk file itself)
Link dalvik-cache file
Link library file (if an app have lib files)
NOTE:
Moving an application to Strage Card will move the app on your 1st partition not the second partition which is not good as it will eat up free space for your media files.
DELETING BLOATWARES
10. To delete a bloat system app, filter applist to show System Apps by tapping on the funnel icon and then select System.
11. Tap an application the tap on Actions and select Uninstall from the popup menu.
12. If you know what you're doing (deleting bloat system apps), you simply ignore the warning.NOTE:
Do not delete OEM Apps (Ex. Samsung Apps for Samsung Phones) as it may cause you problems if the app you deleted is required by your phone to perform some functions.
LINKING DALVIK-CACHE FILES
13. Do this to save more space on your phone's internal memory. Tap on Menu > More > Link dalvik-cache file from the popup menu.

I had a hard time following other guides and when I finally able to make it work on my SGY I decided to create a simpler guide to help other.
I have a tablet that has 250mb for system 7GB extra as internal memory (formated FAT32) and a SD card slot outside.
I partitioned the internal memory (internal SD card). The first partition (with 6Gb) I set primary/FAT32 and the second with 1Gb EXT2/primary.
I wish the Link2SD save apps on the second partition of the internal SD card. I wanted to keep my external SD card without partitioning.
Why I want to do this? Using the internal partition of 7GB is very annoying because it is very slow at USB transfer, and hardly use it. So instead of wasting space partition and my external SD card, I wanted to partition the internal SD card and also wanted the Link2SD utilizasse this internal SD card for apps.
Is this possible?
If this is not possible, I can unify the system partition with the 7Gb's partition, leaving the system with about 8GB of space?
after I linked a widget, it doesn't show up anymore..

That is possible. But as for the configuration or any requirement to make it work on your tablet, that I don't know. As you mentioned you have to SD Cards, right? An internal and external + the 250mb internal memory. Am I correct?
If you want to use your internal sd card, you can format it to EXT2, EXT3 or EXT4. FAT32 is supported by Link2SD but EXT partition is the native partition for Linux which Android OS is using.
After you format your internal sd card to EXT, tap on Menu> More> Recreate Mount Scripts and the choose the appropriate file system for your internal sd.
One thing I am not sure of is... If link2sd would be able to detect the correct sd card for mounting. If you format your internal sd to EXT file system, then you have a big chance that link2sd will read your internal sd as the right as card for mounting.
NOTE:
It is advisable that 2nd partition should not go over 1Gb, but you can experiment with higher values and let us know if it works.

Yeah. I'm not sure if it's a SD inside the tablet or a chip.
But I access the internal memory through the /sdcard folder. And the "really external" SD card is accessed through the /sdcard/tflash folder.

I try it. I partitioned the "internal" sd card. The first partition was FAT32/primary and the second partition was EXT2/primary. But Link2SD don't find this second partition. Even if I formated in FAT32/primary, EXT3/primary etc...
Greaat Guide........ its really helping me thanks for it my friend...

Yeah. I'm not sure if it's a SD inside the tablet or a chip.
But I access the internal memory through the /sdcard folder. And the "really external" SD card is accessed through the /sdcard/tflash folder.

Hhhhmmmm. . . can you please try to install Script Manager from Play Store and then set the link2sd mount script to run on boot and see if that will fix the problem.
hello, i just recently bought this device, and also bought a 32 GB micro SD,
can anyone recommend me the best partitions sizes for the two partitions???
I was thinking to do this:
1st Partition, Primary, Fat32, 30 GB
2nd Partition, primary, Fat32, 2 GB
thx for ur help
Although i got a big partition and link2sd script was mounted, still, i got my internal memory clattered with installation files and therefore i am getting a warning of internal memory full.
I'm gonna try app2sd by sir darktremor and see if it will handle all my apps well.
Though link to sd is really easy to configure.

SGY can only read 1 primary FAT/FAT32 partition. Your 2nd partition should be an EXT2 or EXT3 partition.
So... 2nd partition should be EXT2 or EXT3. Don't use EXT4 or FAT32.

That is a good idea as app2sd moves all apps to 2nd partition. Let it do the magic.

Yes you can, but it is advisable to have 1024MB or 1GB solid for EXT since larger partition means longer access time (has something to do with partition cluster per second read/write speed and which affects application launch speed) -I may not be so sure about that. LOL
As per FAT vs FAT32... FAT32 is advisable for 4GB cards and up.
FAT32 supports 4GB max file size and FAT supports 2GB max file size only. We don't want to go deep into the technicalities of SD Cards as I may create a thread regarding SD Cards, Batteries and other stuff as an addition to my guide.

For errors like this, please download and install the latest version of busybox. Then after installing, re-create the mount scripts by tapping menu > more > re-create mount scripts.
Please do reply if the above workaround helped and also please post the exact error so I can create a quick troubleshooting guide so other could benefit from it.
