Touch Pro 2 keyboard issue - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi folks.
I just got my TP2 (bought it at ebay want ads Germany).
I got for 95€ and that's ok (the shell has some bad looking spots and stuff - I don't mind). But what really annoys me is that the QWERTZ keyboard has that T key problem. When pressed it types a t sometimes, sometimes not, sometimes double. I have to press it hard sometimes so it responds.
I have no bill for the device and so I got no warranty. The former owner did not mention the damaged key and with eBay want ads things are different as with the real eBay.
So any help for me? Could I repair or fix it by myself? It´s not a software problem - I know that much. Hard reset did not fix anything.

You are not alone, I got one with a "r" key problem just like yours. I don't use the keyboard much so it doesn't bother me. I did notice that if you press a certain edge of the key, it works.

Check for water damage?

Solved. Sold the device (as broken). Ordered another one. eBay.
Damn, those smartphones and cells will be my financial ruin one day.

..... ouch....(any way to flag the seller on ebay so to warn others if this person is selling more items online? He should have disclosed that defect)

Start Menu Pop Up

The Start menu pops up as and when it feels like it. It normally happens when writing sms. While writing, the start menu just pops up and it's bloody irritating.
I've tried hard reseting without any additional softwares on at least 4 different ROMs from here & the problem still persists. I'm convinced that it's not a hardware problem cos Karmba 7.2 Non-Touch ROM does not have this problem but the ROM is way to heavy which causes the PDA to slow down.
Is anybodyelse facing this problem? Is there a fix or something to this? Appreciate any help & advice i can get. Thank you.
P/s: I don't get this problem on my TyTN II, Dopod 838 Pro & Touch on custom ROMs

Oh sorry....forgot to mention. I'm using the Dopod810.

Well, there has been a number of posts on this known Trinity weakness.
I also experienced quite an irritating behavior as well some time ago.
Look through the threads, you should find them. Personally, I do have the impression that since I use FTouchFlo, it is far better. However, this only is an impression ... not sure it helps,, but at least you should not feel like "I am the only one with this damned f..... thing" !
same problem
I have the same problem on my phone! specially when writing sms with phonepad and no stylus. You are right. It`s unbelivable annoying. the problem seems to dissapear when you are using the stylus and not flabby fingers..
Me 2 :'(
I am also having this problem.
I've noticed that it only happens when i press lightly on the screen, not when i press hard.I Suspect that it is a fault in the digitizer, and somehow it signals to the device that the upper left corner of the screen is pressed.
My suggestion for a possible solve is to write a little program that prevents the user from clicking on the start menu on the screen, by introducing a "non-click" zone where the start menu is on the today screen.
As i allways use the "windows" button i can always access the start menu. This, i think, will prevent this fault from happening.
My only problem is that i don't know how to program native C.
I have not tested my above mentioned theory, but i would wery much like to. So if there is anyone out there that can do this program, i would be very gratefull.
Scann69,
I would hate to make you nervous, but when I encountered the same problem you are havin it was the start of somethign terrible. My Trinity was back and forth from repair for over 6 months!!!
They replaced the screen, it worked for almost 2 days. They replaced the screen AGAIN but when it came back the 'vibrate' function of my poor Trinity didn't work. They then replaced the mainboard and now things appear to have settled down (but i've only had it back for a couple of weeks now).
My suggestion would be send it in for repair. Good Luck

this problem have been there since i bought the phone a year ago. Htc replaced my mainboard around 5 months ago because of some cameraproblems. I think Beebo has a good point about the digitizer. that would surtenly explain why it dont happen to me when i use the stylus. the problem mostly occur when i use my fingers on phonepad while writing sms..
i also got this problem...quite frequent
first, the changed motherboard, nothing solve and still happen quite frequent
second, changed lcd screen, happen less around once a day or 2 days once
i found this problem quite easily by using finger but now even using stylus it also appear....
how u guys solve this problem? got send to service center or just leave it?
Yep this isn't a WM6 issue
Yep it is a Trinity issue
Yep it is a hardware issue, something to do with the LCD screen. Some have said it gets worst if the phone is heated.
You might have seen improvement after installing touchflo because of the increased reaction time to touch.
No I don't know a solution

but this not the way to solve it. this is the trinity's hardware problem. why need us to bear this problem.
what the technician do is change lcd touch screen. it will not solve becoz after a while it will come back. i go to service center until i tired
after monitoring, it still popup at least once a day....
i really don't know how they solve the problem....damn frustrating....
i have this problem too, but only recently.
who gonna be help?
first prob is the start button popping up, next step is that it continually does this and infact will not allow any screen inputs....as in total piece of #$%(ing crap. I have a dopoid d810 in canada , started 2 months into owning the phone , htc will not service it, and pretend like they dont know why this is happening ( there is info all over the net about it, many people think it is the chip that is improperly mounted to the mouther board that controls screen input). AS Dopod has the service contract on this phone htc will not service it for me and of course dopod does not have international warranty. HTC screwed me hard and long.....I have never been so disappointed with a product in my whole life ( even cereal box xray glasses were better than this)
i had this too on my m700, i think it is an issue with the screen mounting, certainly heat and things may well affect it. Possible the casing pushing the top corner of the screen or something.
I had mine replaced by orange.
rjefferis,
what did orange replace for you? touch screen or whole unit pda?

Yes, all you said are right.
the trinity, there are two problem:
one is the LCD mounting, if you touch the LCD slightly, it will push the screen to the corner as click start menu. for the people who met the problem once in few days, it is all right.
the second problem is serious, as you said "worse when heated", that is because a resistant near CPU is designed in wrong place. the problem will happen freqently everyday and worse when phone is hot (cuz the NTR resistant). once it happens, it will get worse and worse till the motherboard breakdown.
i know some people they replace the resistant to fix the motherboard by them self, and they write down all the progress. if some one really handy and insist to fix the problem, i am happy to translate the progress in to WWE
that day i asked staff at service center, they said never occur this problem so far
i asked htc staff(my friend), he said don't know got this problem. seem like htc don't know this problem....

HTC HD backlight fault after screen replacement

I replaced my HTC HD's lcd+touch+digitizer because i accidently crack my touch screen...
I found the set on e-bay as ''i594 Hot Genuine LCD screen for HTC Touch HD/T8282" for 53€ (app.77$) .
Dismounting the HD has not an easy job for me - cause I had no experience in such operations - but I need it. The screen responds to the touch and everything is normal but... NO BABKLIGHT!!!
I dismount the phone 2nd time, nothing...
I made a hard reset ,still nothing...
Was I a fool to buy from e-bay or I did something wrong? I used the service manual step by step...
If someone can help I 'll be pleased to listen...
I'd try the old cracked display to check and see if the backlight is working. If your old display is working, the new one is probably faulty.

Today I'll request a new set from this company -out of charge - and I hope that everything will - finally - work... Allthough I'll wait for at least another 20-25 days.
Do you have a link to the article you bought or the name of the seller? I bought a screen unit off of ebay as well (and the title of the article is almost identical) and mine was damaged as well. If it's the same seller, we might have a scam on our hands...
I demanded a replacement from the seller, but they said they couldn't send me one, because allegedly they sent all the units back to the original manufacturer to have them checked. Not sure if I can believe that though...
EDIT: My seller is "e2euro".
"My seller is "e2euro"."
... I'm afraid you are right...
Same scam... but no answer yet...
I'm but what should we do about it?

Sorry about my late answer - I was in Madrid for five days!
The seller does usually answer me within a day... I'm going to contact them once more to check on the current status of things - and if they don't offer a acceptable solution, I'm going to get my money back via paypal and complain on ebay! Not sure, if there is anything else we can do...

Where can I order a TP2 Replacement Keyboard?

I've Got a T-mobile flavored TP2 that I just purchased from eBay. I guess when the seller says 'Unit in perfect shape' means everything but the 2 keys on the keyboard that won't even click down. I've been looking for a couple hours trying to find just the keyboard to replace it on my own, but I can't find anything.
HELP!!
1st i'd check warranty options. I've bought 2 devices from ebay and had them repaired under warranty.
2nd, you sure its a hardware problem? (sorry not trying to insult you, just covering all bases) Try hard reseting, or flashing to an Official rom.
finally, if you really need the keyboard, check out cnn.cn Usually i find most cell phone parts there, but looks like they don't have the keyboard maybe you could email them and they can get it for you.
also keep looking on ebay, or find one on ebay that is damaged (water damaged, ran over by car, etc) and use it for parts.
Here's to covering the bases!
Thanks for your input. I'm a network admin by trade.. so i totally understand covering the bases!
I called T-Mo.. they wouldn't even talk to me unless I had the ORIGINAL phone number from the plan it was purchased from. They wouldn't even attempt to look it up by S/N. Since my seller was not the original owner either.. I think I'm just out of luck on that one.
Flashed stock ROM, same result. The key physically will not depress.. if I push it hard enough it will input, but then I get 3 or 4 characters instead of 1.
I've been checking on ebay, but didn't think to look for a parts phone. I'll give that a shot!
I'll also send an email to the site you suggested, and I'll repost the results of that email here.
I've been modding my Tilt and Hermes forever, this is my first experience with the TP2. You guys have an awesome site here. The reason I still have less than 10 posts is because you all make the modding so darn EASY! All the answers I've ever needed were already here.
Thanks again for your help!
cnn.cn is working on obtaining the keyboard for me. I'll update with all the info once they have one. Thanks!
Sounds like something might of been spilled on the keyboard. Try using alcohol (> 90%) to clean the keyboard, letting a little soak down between the keys. Then use a hairdryer to evaporate the remaining alcohol back out before you put the battery back in.
Just an update for anyone following.. no word yet from cnn.ca on the keyboard.

Keyboard mechanical problem

Hi,
My physical keyboard's letter "O" has a mechanical problem. If I press it normally, it does not register it, if I press it with a little more pressure, or a little sideways, it will write 3 or 4 "o"-s minimum.
Would you recommend taking it apart to see if it is just dirt, or is it more likely that something is broken, that I would not be able to fix without parts?
My dilemma: It is a T7381 Telstra, (from Australia) that I am using on ATT in the US. In theory it is still under warranty for 4 more months (not sure how easily I could get things fixed being the 2nd owner). This is not enough of an issue for me to mail it to Australia and wait for it for weeks, but I don't want to lose the warranty (in case I run into problems in the next 4 months) by breaking the seal on the screw, unless I have a good chance that I can fix the keyboard.
Any and all thoughts and experiences are welcome!
Thanks,
I_Z

Send it back. You'll likely get a new phone out of it. If you have a warranty, use it.

Check with Telstra if it is still under warranty (serial number). If they say yep, then send it back for sure.. Even if they replace a major component it would be worth it.
Otherwise you can always check ebay for spares for keyboard and such.

broke capacitive button cable

Hey guys, my phone got slammed in a car door and I finally paid £130 and replaced the screen because it got damaged to the point of being unusable but in the process of replacing it I accidently broke the ribbon for the multitask button. I've tried searching for the part on eBay etc and can't find a replacement part, could someone link me please? If it's available. Thanks in advance

Dunno, not much parts for the OP3. Have you watched JerryRigEverything? He has a really nice disassembly video.
Confirmed, you DID f**k up.
There are NO official replacement parts available online because OnePlus does not sell them to third parties. Anything you may come across is not official - including that screen you got somewhere.
Even if you don't mind unofficial parts, it's really hard to get small single parts for devices with poor service support. Full screen assemblies are fairly common, pretty much anything else isn't.
BTW, screen replacement in official service center costs about as much as you paid for the screen. Didn't benefit at all doing it alone ...
Don't have many options now, go check aliexpress, dealextreme and similar sites if you find anything. If not, well, ... you'll have to shell out even more £££.
