Easiest Way To Flash CyanogenMod 7 With Video Included - myTouch 4G Android Development

before anything if your coming from CM6 or any other rom you need to do a complete wipe on your phone. if your coming from another nightly or another CM7 then your fine you just need to wipe cache & wipe dalvik cache.
things you need:
1. you need to be fully rooted
2. Astro - Free Download in market
3. Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.2 not 3.0.0.5 because .5 doesn't let you do back ups.
download it here http://phones.crackflashers.com/glacier/index.php?folder=cmVjb3Zlcmllcw==
4. Terminal Emulator - Free Download from the market
5. Rom Manager - Get The Paid Version from the market well worth it because once you load CM7 it will update you when new nightlies are ready to download instead of having to be checking over and over for updates.
download the latest nightly & google applications here (don't download Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.5)
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14459-nightlies-cm7-discussion-of-nightlies/
Directions how to load Clockword Mod 3.0.0.2, CM7 Rom, & Google Apps:
download clockwork Mod 3.0.0.2
Open Astro then look for your clockwork Mod 3.0.0.2 file which should be on your download folder long press it & click edit then click rename & rename it to
cwm2glacier & click ok. once is renamed long press it again & click edit then copy then on the top click on the home icon. once your on the home of your sd card long press on any file not folder but file and click edit then click paste
now your clock work mod 3.0.0.2 file should be on the home of your sd card.
double check & make sure is there
open Terminal Emulator & type
su then click enter then type this
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cwm2glacier.img
& click enter exit out of terminal emulator then reboot the phone. once the phone is rebooted turn it off . once its off press the volume down button and the power button and the same time until it goes into recovery choose recovery if your recovery looks orange and it says 3.0.0.2 on top then your good to flash your CM7 Rom.
before installing the CM7 rom do a full wipe. after the full wipe you can flash the latest nightly by choosing install zip from SD card then click on choose zip from sd card scroll down to look for your rom most of the time it should be on your download folder. find your CM7 rom and flash it do the same thing with the google apps flash them the same way as the rom which are a must to have your phone running properly.

From the CM PREVIEWS thread, it was mentioned that clockwork Mod 3.0.0.5 has been fixed and is now appropriate for use.

Cool thanks for the update

In the video you mention that it's difficult (or impossible or complicated, I forget) to flash from Ice Glacier to CM7. But all you've got to do is Flash CWM3, wipe, Flash CM7. Done.

This OP should be updated because the current CW v3.0.0.5 does make backups. The file was patched and is available in the CM7 OP. It would be good to include TrueBlue_Drew's guide on switching between v3.x.x.x and v2.x.x.x of Clockwork Recovery in case people want to go back and forth from Gingy to Froyo. Just a thought.

I am getting ready to flash one of the nightlies and just rooted my MyTouch 4G without issue (rookie at rooting) reading a bunch of articles, I flashed the recovery 3.0.0.5.
Now I see an article saying I need the 3.0.0.2 recovery, then I see another article saying the 3.0.0.5 had be fixed and was OK to use for flashing the new nightlies. My question is the 3.0.0.5 recovery OK to use and will it allow back ups to be flashed as well.
Thank You
Vinny

I hear alot about 3.0.0.5 but I've being flashing all the nightlies up to #22 making back ups clearing cache making back ups etc with 3.0.0.2 if its not broken why fix it ill update to the latest one once is final.

Clockwork 3.x does not flash properly?, want to go back to 2.5.x? Look here!

I'm looking for CW 2.5.0.1(?) so I can flash radio and other files. It seems like 3.x "aborts" install with some files.
I have not been able to find the 2.5.x CW img for the Evo. Also, now that my phone is crippled (flashed a new ROM), how do I install the 2.5.x over the 3.x? ROM Manager does not give me the option to flash back to 2.5.x
Thanks for any quick help!
BTW, I'm not using RA because it doesn't seem to allow me to navigate the SD directory to chose files to flash. If there is something I'm missing, let me know.
Edit:
See post #7 below, it contains the file to get you back to 2.5.0.1!!

For some reason that method isn't working for a lot of people, myself included. The thing that is working is to flash RA 1.8

Correct, the older versions in ROM Manager do not work for the Evo.
I ended up finding a pc36img.zip and flashed it. I am now back to 2.5.0.1. I don't use RA because I can't select files. It's a pain when I have a lot of files to flash.
Here is the Clockwork 2.5.0.1, packaged flashable.
Put it in the root of your SD, boot into bootloader, let it update, and life is good again...
Edit: Some additional info to save you some searching:
Make sure you flash using bootloader and NOT your current recovery. Power off, hold Vol Down, and Power On. Let it update the image, then reboot into recovery again. At that point, you should see 2.5.0.1.
ROM Manager does not properly downgrade. 2.5.1.4/3, I have been told, is not for Evo. You will need to flash manully as I described.

There's a more sinister problem with 3.0.0.1 (which appears to have now been retracted, as ROM Manager, after updating me to 3.0.0.1, is now showing "Latest Recovery: 3.0.0.0" at the time I write this).
It's only sheer chance that I had another unrelated problem, or I would have been screwed -- the Nandroid backup is broken in 3.0.0.1 (it completed the backup operation within about 2-3 seconds, clearly not having backed up everything!)
Edit: I checked in the backup directory, and the only files backed up by 3.0.0.1 were boot.img and recovery.img
Now that I reverted to 3.0.0.0, at least the backup takes a good long time and seems to be listing all the usual stuff, but I don't feel that I can trust 3.0 now.
I'm going back to what was working for me a couple of days ago (2.5.1.2) when I tried CyanogenMod (6.1.1) for the first time. ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery handled it all so perfectly that I kicked it off with checkboxes enabled for the "back it up" and "wipe" options, got called away for about 1/2 hour, and when I returned, there was CM6 in all its beauty, even including the Google apps.
Is there an "official" place to report bugs for ClockworkMod Recovery? I noticed that the clockworkmod.com web site has gone poof (Google cache shows it intact on Dec 11th).

Not defending CW, but it does have USB Mode. It's just tucked away in the menu.
If I'm on my PC, I download and then just drag to the phone or I use Dropbox, then Astro to move it to the root. If I'm not, then I use Astro. I don't have to rename anything.

Forget about rom manager, download it directly, install it to your sd card and flash from recovery. I just flashed it and works fine.

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery Help!

Hey All,
I am a long time "rooter" (June of 2010) on my Dinc. However, I am trying to Flash the new version of Clockworkmod Recovery. I open Rom Manager, click option 1 to "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" to version 3.0.0.5. It asks me to verify my phone (Dink) and then says it flashed correctly. So, I reboot into Recovery and it is still the green text and says version 2.5.x.x. I reboot the phone and look in Rom Manager again it is says my Current version is 3.0.0.5. So, Rom Manager thinks I have the latest version of Recovery but I don't. I have tried other methods of Flashing the new version but that isn't working either. Specifically, I tried the ADB Shell. I get into ADB Shell just fine, but when I try to mount the SDCARD I get an error. I can boot the phone up and navigate just fine to the SDCARD. So I am not sure what the issue is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
**UPDATE** I also had update.zip on the root of my sdcard, I deleted that and it still doesn't work.

Will that do damage? What partition, the SDcard? Please elaborate. Do that in the Clockworkmod Recovery?
FWIW, the new clockwork has compatibility issues with 95% of the flashable roms and extras out there right now. I wish I had not updated, and I am unable to go back (a nand restore would not do it.) Unless you feel a pressing need, you may be better off with the old version.
I got so frustrated, I switched my recovery to Amon_RA, which seems to work better for me at this point.

You do not need the new recovery for CM7 to work. You should also go to 3.0.0.8, there are problems with 3.0.0.5
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970032 for details.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970032 on how to downgrade clockworkmod.
If your theme/extras developers have not upgraded their install scripts (like they have been warned to do for quite a few months) then this is the reason they do not work with the new CWM.
I followed the instructions but it still isn't working. I think the issue is ADB Shell can't mount the SDCARD. While in recovery, I can navigate to the SDCARD, but for some reason ADB Shell can't mount it. I tried all three methods as prescribed in the link. None work.

While you are booted in recovery I do not believe you can flash a new one. Boot to your ROM and try from there.
I figured it out. I ran the Unrevoked for Life patch and at that point it would let me update the Recovery image. Not sure if that was a prereq. or not. However, I am still experiencing issues. I am running CM7 with 3.0.0.8 Recovery. I am trying to update the nightly builds and it fails. Using Rom Manager to update my rom, it downloads the update. Reboots into Recovery and then says something about E:\ failure.
Well, I finally got the new recovery image but I can't update CM7 ROM's. It downloads the "Nightly Updates" but then says it can't mount E:\ when it reboots into recovery.

[RECOVERY][EC09]Clockwork Mod Recovery

I fixed recovery for the Continuum users so that you have your own button mappings. It isn't integrated into the kernel yet, but I'm going to attempt to get that fully working (I have it partially working atm). Until that is fixed, you get the update.zip method for CWM. So, to accomplish this, you'll need to download two things. First, you need the update.zip file, which is placed on the root of the SDCard (/sdcard/update.zip) and the second item is the recovery kernel, which is flashed via Odin (v1.3). It is now integrated into the kernel and it has been updated to the EC09 kernel. This package will flash both recovery and kernel (so you don't loose CWM when the system boots). Note that if you are still on DL17, you should use the archive packages below. What you will need is this file, and you will want to flash it via Odin (or extract it and use Heimdall).
Open Odin, click the PDA button and browse to and select the continuum_recovery.tar.md5 I400_CWM.tar.md5 file that you downloaded. Remove the battery from your phone, and hold down the volume down button while plugging in the USB cable that is attached to your computer. Make sure you have the drivers installed, if not, you'll need to install them before you continue. Flash the file by clicking start if the phone is detected in Odin. Once it completes successfully, all you need to do is boot to recovery and apply sdcard/update.zip and you'll be in CWM. I decided upon black background with cyan text. This can still be changed if you wish, but I like it
Here are your button mappings:
Camera button/Grip sensor - Select Item (applies to cwm and stock recovery)
Volume Up/Down - Scroll up/down in the list (applies to cwm and stock recovery)
Power Button - Select Item
Menu Button - Does nothing
Home Button - Go Back
Back Button - Go Back
Search Button - Hide Text
I'm still trying to figure out how to get buttons to show up for the touchkeys. For now, they're blank, so just press in the approximate location on the screen for them. We may or may not be able to get buttons there at some point. Also, when you initially boot to recovery, there will be a message about update.zip being gone. Ignore the message as it seems to be a bug. As long as you copied the update.zip from this thread to your SDCard, you should be fine. Enjoy.

You need to flash the recovery kernel via Odin, and it is an actual kernel. The update.zip is a fakeflash recovery. It basically kills the currently running recovery and starts up CWM recovery in its place.

The difference is that this recovery has the correct button mapping, where the update.zip that Adrynalyne posted was using the Fascinate's button layout, so things didn't work as expected.
so i can't have both this version of the clockwork recovery mod and the peanutbutta jelly time kernel at the same time?

Yes you can. Recovery is a full kernel, it just boots using a different file and set of commands, and it doesn't start up the android system once booted and provides just a minimal environment. The recovery kernel and standard kernel lie on two separate partitions, and in actuality, this recovery kernel is the standard kernel as well.
New CWM update.zip file. Like we did for the Fascinate about a month or so ago, I'm going to try to get everything moved over the CWM 3.x and Edify Scripting. Here is a new update.zip file to be able to use the most up-to-date version of CWM. I'll also try to keep this file updated as Koush and the rest of the CM team update CWM.
Instructions
1. Download me
2. Rename file to update.zip and put it on the root of your SD Card, overwriting the previous update.zip
3. Boot to recovery and apply update.zip
I may give replacing stock recovery entirely again another shot as well, eliminating the need for the update.zip entirely, but no promises. Also note that nandroid backups made with the previous update.zip file will not work with this version of CWM. If you like having the nandroid backup available, redo your backups so you have them for the new CWM.

I'm really not sure what exactly you were trying to accomplish, as unrevoked provides full root. What root method were you trying to follow?
Anyways, now you need to flash a PC36IMG of a recovery image,.using the bootloader. I'd link you to one, but I'm on the Xda app. Once you get recovery flashed, you can reflash a rom of your choice.

It was the semi root one, im pretty sure cause my evo wouldnt let me run some FULL root access apps like titanium back up and such, how would i flash a recovery image? my phone is stuck at the htc evo 4g boot screen, i can get to the bootloader and it trys (everytime) to to install the PC36IMG and it doesnt work :/
What was the PC36IMG you tried to flash? And where did you try to flash it - the bootloader or recovery? You're saying that it didn't flash successfully, correct?
If all you need is your recovery back and everything is fine, you just need to flash Clockwork again. You can do this through the bootloader or by downloading Rom Manager and choosing "flash ClockworkMod Recovery".
If you want/need to flash through the bootloader, first delete the PC36IMG on your SD card then download the one of CWM that I'll link you to. Put it on the root of your SD card and power down the phone. Boot into the bootloader by holding the volume down button and power button simultaneously. It should check for the PC36IMG and ask you to update. Choose yes, then no when it asks you to reboot. Choose recovery from the menu and you should boot into ClockworkMod. If you don't need to do anything recovery related, just choose to reboot from there.

Sorry, I missed the action. I was typing on my phone and cleaning at the same time
If your phone won't boot, you'll need to wipe cache, dalvik cache and data then flash a new rom. You can try just wiping cache and dalvik then rebooting to see if that will help, but it probably won't.
EDIT: It could've been that you needed busybox and you really were fully rooted. Did the bootloader say s-off before all of this? If it did, you've been nand unlocked all along.

Ok I have the Clockwordmod working thank you, Phone still wont boot, Im guessing cause it Doesnt have a rom to boot, Idk how to install roms either sadly .
So I think I need a rom to install from zip, but idk how to get a rom thats worth trying to install, last time i tried to install it cam up with :
"Amend Scripting is no longer supported"
"Please switch to edify scripting"
-Steps into the fray-
1. Place the attached file on your sdcard, then boot into the bootloader [vol+down while phone is booting up] let it scan, the apply update., reboot, reboot into recovery and you'll be on amon_ra 2.3 You got the error cuz CWM 3.0+ doesn't support amend scripting [old], only supports edify [new].
As for a rom, I'd recommend CM7.
> http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic download a version from there
> http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/ download the gapps here
In recovery, wipe your factory/data, cache, and dalvik. Install rom, select the CM7 you downloaded, go back, wipe cache and dalvik, then flash the gapps, then reboot.
Ok Following the latest post's steps and I'm Installing cm7 now thank you people so much for the help so far, ill let you know if everything goes well.
Never a problem, were you in good hands long before I got here.
Nice Rom, Everythings back to normal and its really cool, Thank you guy's for all the help

Before i end this lol, is there anyway for 4g on cm7?
Settings > CM Settings > Interface > Notification Power widget
scroll down to mobile data [3G], then wimax is 4G, select both [and whatever else you want] and then you can toggle it from the notification.

1. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/DSP Manager.zip Extract the apk, then install on your phone- dsp manager is an equalizer, so that should help.

3. Well, you can check out themes and apps for themes/mods for CM7. I'd look into launcer pro/adw, ect, for a launcher, you can find icon packs along with wallpapers in themes and apps to get your desired look.
