[Q] launcher, sensui, and memory - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried the new adw launcher ex and I like what I am able to do with it so I decided to use it as my default launcher. Before setting it as the default, should I remove the widgets from the senseui screens that I have configured on sense before doing this? I guess what I am asking is will it still load those widgets from the sense desktop into memory when I boot the phone?

Anyway to decrease the number of homescreens on any Sense Rom?

I know that I can use another launcher but I really prefer the Sense look and widgets
Not without installing an third part launcher I think. But you will have that option i adw launcher and launcher Pro that I know off.
no way, its almost impossible :S

[Q] Widget support for custom launchers?

Hey XDA,
is there any custom launchers out there, which supports all the different HTC/Android built-in widgets? (ie. Friendstream, HTC Watch/Weather). I tried Go Launcher EX, but thats a no-go, and barely any widgets from downloaded apps. is on the widget-list either.
How can a widget not support a different home screen?
i'm second of this, i'm using aosp rom, and replace my homescreen with go launcher ex, but widget which support in sense, no works on go launcher, ex minimalistic text, etc.
how to make it works?
HTC Widgets only work with Sense, they are coded to only work with sense and are not available to custom launchers.

Sense/Rosie question

This is really a Sense question, but since I'm using DHD I'll ask it here as it may be phone specific (no idea).
Basically can you override the Rosie launcher with something else? I just tried Cyanogenmod and I liked the bottom bit of the home page (with the phone button and apps list etc), thought it was way better than the Sense one. But I want to stick with Sense and customise that bit myself - is this possible?
Cheers.
You can install a 3rd party launcher (Go Launcher, LauncherPro, ADW, etc.) to replace the Rosie launcher. However you would also lose the ability to use Sense widgets.
All the rest of Sense would be there (Dialler, People app, Calendar, etc.) But if you particularly like any Sense widgets, you would need to find similar ones in the Market to replace them.

[Q] Clear widgets off unused homescreen?

This might be a stupid question but I haven't been able to find it answered anywhere else.
I use AOKP as my rom, and AOKP by default uses Nova Launcher. Whenever you install a new rom, when you first unlock the device the first time, you're given a choice to launch the default launcher or nova. I of course pick nova and set as default, but I got to thinking, if you chose the default, there are widgets and things on that launcher. So, would it make sense to launch the stock launcher to clear out the unused widgets and icons and such off that launcher before switching to Nova?
For all I know those unused widgets aren't held in memory so it doesn't matter, but if it does, is it worth clearing them out?
The launcher you select well reside in memory, and the other one will eventually be shut down. So there is no need to clear the other launcher.
If you're still unsure it should be quick to clear data on the unused launcher.

Only the launcher you select will run.

HOX launcher lag(not Sense)?

Hello, I was planning on changing the launcher on my HOX but all the launchers I've tried seem to be lagging when switching panels on the home screen(jittery animation when switching panels). The launchers I've tried were:
Nova Launcher
Apex Launcher
Go Launcher EX
Holo Launcher
Zeam Launcher
The only launcher that runs smoothly is the stock Sense one but I want a launcher with a scrollable dock! I've googled this and all the results were about lag on the Sense launcher, which I have no problems with. I doubt that my phone's hardware can't handle a launcher. Any ideas as to what causes this problem or a fix?

The HOX has some incredible hardware. So its surely not the hardware.I myself used the pro version of apex launcher for some time and it works smooth. I think you have a lot of background apps running. Disable some background apps.. that will free some memory.

How much RAM do I have to have free for it to run smoothly? I Currently have 300 megabyte free worth of ram and it's still lagging! The only running apps (according to the task manager) are:
Android core apps
Apex launcher
BetterBatteryStats
Battery Widget
Package Access Helper
FlexNet
SmartcardService.
Also, whenever I end the processes of some apps (like settings, dropbox, calendar and some others), they re-open themselves a few minutes later, what's up with that?
Update:
Oh, I doubt that it's memory related, the menu screen switching is super smooth, if it was RAM related it would be affected too
Anyone?
If menu screen is working smoothly then it's an app problem. Try reducing the number of widgets you have kept on each screen and see if that helps.

Funny thing is, there are no widgets on any of the panels, is there by any chance that I have a faulty hardware? (which still sounds kind of impossible since the Sense launcher runs smoothly)
Same here with my HOX+. Sense runs smooth, but there are too many limitations, so I run Apex.
I've only one widget on the screen. I think, it's a Apex problem.
