3.5MM plugin damaged? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
When I plugin my earphones in the 3.5MM jack of my DHD it makes a weird noise, I think that's normal it because it means that it is connecten I think. It's like the oldschool televisions when you have no reception it makes a weird sound 'BGGGG' like but this doesn't even last a half second. BUT if I play a little bit//when I my jack is in, and I spin it a little bit, you hear it sometimes again.
I was wondering, is it broken or a defect or is it normal that if you spin with the plugout of your headphones that it sometimes makes a weird sound? It doesn't really bother me or sometimes when I am listing to music but I am a little bit scared that it is defect
Thank you!

When you plug it in the noise your describing is normal but only then should that noise be heard for a split second.
Maybe it's you headphone 3.5mm jack end that is the problem or wires. Try with different headphones and see if they make the same sound.
I just tried this now and I get no extra weird noise when I rotate the plug.

[Q] Anyone else's headphone jack get a lot of static when bumped around?

I've tried three different minijack cables and they all seem to have the same issue. I listen to my music on my phone primarily in my car. I don't have a car mount, I'm usually driving by myself so I throw my phone in the passenger seat. I've noticed (especially within the past month) that when the phone is jostled (particularly at the point where the headphone jack is) loud, bursty static sounds through my speakers.
I'm wondering my device's headphone jack has gone bad, or even if this is common at all.
It's not something that's upsetting my terribly as it doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

headphone jack issues

ok so i got my note 3 about 6 days ago and just noticed somthing that i dont like, the headphone jack is acting very strange.
first of all when i plug in a pair of headphones its not a very smooth entry its sort of choppy and doesnt feel very premium,
second, when i plug in my headphones sometimes the microphone stops working, and i hear a very loud thump everytime i change the track. now i noticed that it only happens if i insert the headphones slowly, and not only that but if i do that there is a horrible screetching sound coming from the headphones, it doesnt seem normal and it seems like a hardware issue.
thanks
Definitely seems like a hardware issue, have you tried other headphones. Shined a light down the headphone jack and see if there is any debris in there.

edit: ok its definitely a ground loop problem, it makes a static noise when i touch the screen worse if i put more and more fingers

Headphone issues

Hi,
I have been trying to troubleshoot my issues and have had no luck.
one day my headphones stopped playing in my right ear so I figured it was a bad headphone jack. I bought a new one and replaced it. Now it only plays when button control headphones are plugged in (the plugs with the 3 black stripes not the 2 like standard earbuds). It does play but if I turn the headphone plug it stops playing at certain points while turning. the rear speaker works fine.
I tried having the jack plugged in with the metal outer case off and I have the same issue (again, I don't think a short is an issue).
I checked everything and the headphone jack appears to be fine, doesn't appear to be a short anywhere. I am at a loss on what my next step would be.
Thank you.
There are lots of possible solutions, that you can try.
Sounds like you might just need to replace the audio receiver.

headphone jack problem star n9800

I've had Samsung's in the past but decided to take a chance to buy the above phone due to cost saving.
The supplied earphones work perfectly though they are bigger than the bud type supplied with galaxy phones so they hurt my ears after a short period.
I've tried plugging in my old and a new set of Samsung headphones but they at first make a deep buzzing sound with low sound coming through, after moving jack around and pulling out a bit the sound works but as soon as I let go the sound goes back to buzzing again.
After inspecting the jack plugs I noticed that they are quite different, one is bigger than the other and the rubber rings are in differing points - until now I never new that jack sizes were different. I've attached a picture of them together (gold are Samsung)
my question is can I get a pair of bud type headphones with the larger plug? if so what do I look for?
I thought I'd ask hear before considering Bluetooth headsets.
thanks in advance.
same problem
I got the exact same problem and also discovered that if you remove the case, the smaller headphone jack will fit. Although this is not a solution. Sometimes i just loosen up the case a little on the area of the headphone jack so that it does fit. I'm looking foor a bigger jack now too.

Audio Issues when plugged into car First shortcoming I have found

So ive got to say this phone has been pretty much awsome for the past 24 hours but I have found its first major short coming wondering if anybody else is having this issue.
SO here is what happens. I happily plugged my note 4 into the aux audio jack in my car and then I plugged it into the car charger. That is when I get this really annoying electrical noise through the stereo system in the car. So I was like hum that is weird my note 2 only did that if the jack was not plugged in all the way. Well when a sound on the phone plays the electrical noise goes away completely and I hear the sound or song or whatever audio is playing crystal clear. Then as soon as no sounds are playing as if the audio card in the phone is not being used its like it shuts off and lets all this electrical noise coming through the charging system of the phone. Then if say a txt comes in the electrical noise sound goes away the alert plays then after the alert plays the electrical noise comes back super annoying. Can hear the alternator in the car through the noise as well. Make me wonder if it is a software issue of some sort because the noise goes away totally whenever any program takes over the audio driver and plays something through the sound card.
Anybody else have this issue? Try it if ya have not would be interesting to hear reports on this. I do not have bluetooth in my car so could not test it. I always raise the phones volume all the way up when plugged into the aux jack so I have more preamping to the stereo.
Thanks
Haven't tried on the note 4 yet but I did have this same issue on the note 2. But it was more of a white noise. Very low almost TV static noise.

I've had this issue with multiple different phones - I don't think it is the software exactly.
The only time that would ever happen to me is if I was using my aux cable AND had my normal AC charger plugged into it (using an adapter for the car that turned the "smoking thingy" into an AC socket.) If I used an adapter for the car that just gave me a USB port to charge it through only cable it would never happen.
And this happens consistently - haven't tried with my note 4 though yet though.
Try it without your charger plugged in.

I agree without the charger plugged in there is no noise at all. But it is strange that the grounding loop problem only occurs if software is not playing any audio at all. It literally goes away when something plays audio I can hear it go silent then the audio plays then there is another 8th of a second of pure silence then the noise starts again. Or say you are listening to tune in radio or something and a notification comes up. It will pause the radio program and then you will hear the noise for a split second then a sound will play silent again then split second noise then the radio will resume playing. So between the hand off of the two audio programs playing a sound you hear the noise really weird.
I agree the AC adaptor made noise for me as well on the note 2 plugged into an inverter. But this is just my normal 12 v adapter that never had a problem with the note 2. Will be interesting to hear what more ppl say with their 12 v adapters.
My power adapter above 1 amp makes a lot of noise. Had a 2.x amp for quicker charge. Had to revert to 1.x amp charger to reduce noise.
