[ROM]Official GorillaPhone-MIUI-1.1.29-UPDATE (1/29/11) - myTouch 4G Android Development

MIUI Dev Team Just Released Desire HD version-1.1.28! I have ported this version to MT4G, added some MT4G apps, and added custom Kernel and Front Facing Camera Support!
This is the very latest MIUI build, and it is 2.2.1 froyo based.
I have changed my version scheme to match both eViL D's as well as the MIUI releases. Basically MIUI's versions are the build date. I will name my versions as the release date and just state what version of MIUI they are based off of.
I can't say that this will run better or worse or any different at all from eViL's port. The major difference is that my port comes from a device that is almost identical to ours. So this build is almost made for our device.
I have tested the camera(both miui and stock) and Wifi, cell data, MIUI Theme downloader, FM Radio, tools, and music. All of this seems to be working.
FFC is working!
If you download and use this ROM and find any bugs, please let me know.
As Usual, you can get to my ROMS through my site here: Gr8GorillaDev
The changelog is also available there on my site as well.
Original MIUI ROM can be found Here
I am not responsible for any bad stuff that may happen by flashing this, enjoy the new ROM. I appreciate any and all feedback.

Screen Cast showing the Awesome Launcher features of this ROM!
Project Donators:

rsmurdoch (JawBone BlueTooth Headset)

If you are getting chinese on anything except for the two MIUI market apps, then first long press home key, click AppManager, select all (tab), scroll down to Launcher and clear data. Then reboot into recovery wipe cache, Dalvik Cache, and fix Permissions, then reboot. It will be fixed!
Latest Version 1.1.29-UPDATE
All of the to do's are done!
There is now FFC support. Please go to my site and download the latest ROM! The only instructions now are to wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing and fix permissions after first boot (for dragon dictation).
Wish List: Fulfilled!
Track Pad wake is included already: Push Menu, then settings, then system, goto button settings and you will find it there.

So ffc works on this one? Downloading now

Unfortunately no, I was referring to the two cameras apps that are installed on this rom.
I apologize. I should have been more clear. I have updated the OP to avoid confusion.
However if some people request FFC support from MIUI, we might be able to get it.....
*FFC Support is NOW included!*

is this running 2.2 or 2.3?

Thanks gorilla, is this the newest miui 1.1.21? Or 1.1.14 r5?

Desire HD doesn't have a FFC

What are the differences in MIUI?
Okay so im confused....im currently running [ROM] eViL's Q&D MIUI 1.1.14 r5 - Fluff You! [01/17/11] on my MT4G.
Now I come accross this one that has the words gorillasense and its throwing me off....what are the main differences in this ROM? the video posted looks just like the one I currently have installed.
I have a question, the stock camera that this one has, not MIUI but stock is it the same sense camera that the original STOCK ROM from the MT4G brings? or is it the ugly looking one from vanilla?
can some one please describe to me the main differences and which one is more superior?
[ROM] eViL's Q&D MIUI 1.1.14 r5 - Fluff You! [01/17/11]
or
[ROM]Official GorillaSense-MIUI-DHD-MT4G-v.01 (1-22-11)
Thanks

I think currently the evil miui is a more composed rom as it have all the google apps and some more programs like ti backup.
Evil's miui i think is based of the nexus one, while this rom is based from the Desire HD which in theory should run better because the DHD is a closer phone to the MT4 than the N1. The DHD seems to share all the same internals to the MT4. Again someone correct me because i might be wrong.
This rom should have a lot of potential, i'm not saying neither rom is better than the other but if i was to chose i'd chose the a port that comes from a closer phone.

Flashing and testing now, great release. I saw the Desire Port on Miui-dev earlier today and thought it could easily be ported to MyTouch 4g so I'm glad someone did it.
Would be great if soon we can get FFC support and maybe a native MyTouch build rather than ports.

Basically this ROM is the latest MIUI build, 1.1.22 It has some neat launcher features that MIUI claims were added as of 1.1.21 (don't quote me on that). And this ROM has the Ugly Vanilla Camera.
It is ported from the MIUI Desire HD build which is basically the same as our MT4G except they have bigger screen and no FFC.
As I said before, this may not be much different than eViL's build and it may run better or worse. I don't know. Users of both can compare.

Gr8gorilla, is this ROM include an O/C kernel? if not will your O/C kernel work and which one the Gorilla 2.3 non-CM or Gorilla 2.5 CM

Facing a problem with the ROM. After installation the screen keeps going black. It after a few button press starts again but very quickly goes off on its own
I thought it could be a bad download so redownloaded the file
Have done a full wipe twice and still the same result
Any suggestions

To fix go into settings, display, increase the screen brightness. I also recommend that you go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and then fix permissions before rebooting.

What is the best sense and non sense Roms out?

Right now I'm running cyanogenmod 7 nightlies but getting kinda bored with the same old thing
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I love HTC Sense, its so professional looking & has convenient widgets.
I am currently using the HTC Desire Z ROM on my Incredible. It is a port of the actual ROM used on the Desire Z, so it has a very nice customizable menu instead of the basic "+" icon. And it is light & runs pretty smoothly also.
Found here!
But there are several other good Sense ROM's available.
Magnolia is a very nice looking version of Sense UI Here...
Different styles of Sense UI:
Nil's Business Sense Here...
Incredibly Re-Engineered Here...
Warm TwoPointTwo Here...
I also recommend using the attached file to flash over your newly installed ROM, it will wake your Incredible without needing to press the power button, using the Optical Touch device instead.
Good luck & hope you find the ROM that is right for you.

Like it was said above, there are quite a few of them out there. But the best one is all about which one YOU like using best. Chcek them all out, make backups, and see which one has the features YOU like the most. Everyone here has their favorite preference, now its time to get yours
My opinion: Best Sense - Incredibly Re-Engineered
My opinion: Best non-Sense - CM7
Once I've used a Z rom I can't use any other sense rom anymore I'd recommend Uber Z. Link in my sig.
For AOSP I'd have to recommend the same old CM7.
There are quite a few good sense roms but I was always partial to Skyraider. The developer has stated that there will only be one more update to it, but its fast, stable, and has quite a few modifications that can be done while still staying true to the overall sense theme.
As for non-sense I have to go with CM7 too. Fast and stable and extremely customizable.
Try as many as possible and throw some different kernels in there too. That's half the fun of rooting.

I'm another supporter of the SkyRaider 3.5 ROM
There's a bunch of really great ROM's here, so I'm sure you'll find something you like.
I like Sense ROMs apps, like the camera and people/phone app look and function much better than non-sense ROMs. With that said, non-sense ROMs are so much faster in my experience.
Best Sense ROM: Magnolia, the developer is seriously committed to providing the highest quality ROM to his users.
Best AOSP ROM: CM7
Magnolia!!!!

IncROM (sense) by |||bored||| has found a permanent home on my dinc. Like most here i've gone through many, many ROM's and now i can't get away from IncROM. The developer is incredibly responsive and stability has been rock solid through 3 releases. But, like someone said, the fun is in trying them all!!!1

i did like that one but not the keyboard. yes i could have swapped that out, but i have been using miui for the last few weeks.
i also love sense and am using my first ROM (myn's). i love it and really dont even care to change to anything else at all. Very similar to stock with some enhancements. perfect.
I am a fan of Sense roms. I like Warm 2.2 and Incredibly Re-engineered personally, and was using the Z variant of Warm until yesterday when I switched to try IR Z. I love the speed of both of the Z roms, and the new Sense 2.0 is much smoother than the original.

They have access to htcsense.com which is cool, also they have the super quick reboot. Its generally faster, and is what most of the devs seem to be moving to using.
Skyraider 3.5 is my favorite sense rom. ihtfp is a great developer and maintains very stable and functional roms. Used to be my daily driver and might be once again when the new version comes out.
However, for AOSP I can't stress enough how awesome MIUI has been. It's like a completely different OS but no less beautiful and functional than what we've come to expect. I especially love the built in theme manager. It makes switching things up super easy. The launcher is really smooth too, something I could not achieve on any 2.3 rom no matter which launcher I've used.
Unfortunately MIUI isn't gingerbread yet, but they're going to start releasing gingerbread versions to phones this Friday with a fancy new UI. Can't wait!

Thanks Blockhead. I am new to the incredible but have experience with the droid x. They seems to be different mainly due to the locked bootloader on the x. When flashing roms there is no talk of s-off, radio, kernals, ect. I do have a question will some roms not boot because someone's system is s-on? I ask this because i previously rooted using unrevoked3 and have the superuser icon in app drawer but am still s-on (shown in hboot) i created a backup in clockworkmod recovery. Then i tried to flash Incredibly Reengineered rom and it installed fine but when i restarted it just stayed at HTC boot screen, i waited over 10 min pulled battery and same thing happened where it would not go past the HTC boot screen. I did wipe data, cache, and delvk cache.

which rom u like best ??

as title which one????
I think the obvious answer here is quarx's CM7

+1! It's really great!
Barebones 1.5.1
I love the fact that it is 'bare' and can be customized as the user wishes.
I've not tried CM7 because the beta status puts me off, plus all the little tweaks and fixes that need to be applied after flashing. Where is beta7 with all the fixes included, or better even RC1?
ATM I'm eagerly awaiting Barebones 1.5.2 or better even, a gingerbread barebones version.
I'm running froyo I've tried to use cm7 but never could get the market to work I installed the correct version of gapps and no market would show so it put me off the whole cm7 If anyone one has suggestions please help

You need to do like this:
boot into custom recovery
wipe/data, cache
install cm7 zip
install gapps zip
Do this all in one session. I think gapps needs to be installed prior to first boot or strange things can occurr
I've only had the official 2.1 and 2.2 non-blur roms before i flashed the leaked 2.3.3 orange rom. Now I have Motoblur on my defy and I still cant figure out why everyone hates Motoblur, It lacks some customization options I agree (miss the abillity to make a shortcut to switch between 2 and 3g), but the social network integration is nice and smart! It automatically syncs facebook with phone numbers, it shows updates from friends on a widget, etc.
Seriously, everything works for me in this rom as far as I know (red lens), only thing I don't like is the camera (never liked it).
What can I do to enhance the camera? 1st of all highest filming resolution is only vga, second problem is a weird distortion when recording. When recording and turning fast it makes the upper part move/adjust faster than the lower part of the film and so I get some weird effect. Its like the upper part is reacting like it should and the lower part just follows after. Quite difficult to explain, I hope someone gets it Any ideas for a fix?

First ROM ever ... Absolution?

I want to flash my first ROM ever and ive been trying to read a bit and decide on the most appropriate ROM for me. I want something fast and with a good battery life and from what Ive been reading Absolution seems to offer both these things really well. One thing I dont think im willing to give up right now however is the ability to sync facebook images and information onto my contacts. Do Absolution and other Cyanogen based ROMS allow us to do that? Any one with any other suggestions that you think may be easier for me to handle for a first ROM? Also, is there a way for me to backup my current stock rooted ROM so I go back to it in case I dont like CM?
If you want cyanogenmod based ROMs, for me blackICE ROM is the best by far.
If you want to stick to official releases for our DHD, Android Revolution or wait for LeeDroiD to update his ROM
If your want sense 3.5, in my opinion SmartDroiD is my ROM of choice,it really is the best ROM I've ever used, but there is ER3BUS ROM and RcMiX Runny. Currently I'm on ER3BUS as I wanted to test it and I've ended up loosing my USB cable so I'm stuck atm but I will be returning to SmartDroiD soon as I can.

Yea, when you first install a custom ROM after making your choice, obviously you will have clockwordmod recovery on the phone. From here you can do backups (referred to as nandroid backups) you can also initiate this from ROM manager.
Good luck intrepid Modder.
Also my recommendations are
Sense - Android Revolution HD. It's stock Sense look and feel with good battery life and amazing support, practically 24hour.
AOSP - CM7 - Again amazing support and a great experience. It can link your FB profile pics, but don't expect and decent resolution.
Bleeding Edge - LC ICS Beta 4.5 - Great if you want to try the new flavour of Android but really not for the new modder.
Thanks a lot for the help guys. Knowing that I can back up my stock rom is particularly comforting. Im hoping il have enough time this weekend to get around to doing this. By then Il make sure to look around for some videos of each of those ROMs in order to better choose my first
I feel that Absolution and Blackice are roughly on par with each other, and both are excellent. I'm very curious about Wilkyyy's reasoning...
If your only serious criteria are speed and battery life, the Oxygen 2.3.2 port can't be beaten IMHO. It has far fewer "options" than the former two ROMs though, and there is no CM7-style theming. If you use an alternate launcher like Go, though, then this isn't really an issue or even very relevant.

Everyone will tell you what they think is the best rom out there. It is all a matter of opinion and taste. I would suggest watching the threads and see which ones are up to date with features that are appealing to you and try them each out for a few days/hours/minutes etc until you settle into one that makes you happy. There are tons of quality roms and many that are inactive as far as development too. Just be sure to back up your go to or stock rom before experimenting.
i would say virtuous affinity-v1.48.0 its fast and dont use much battery
i think you can use mybackup pro to backup your stock rom
but i think you need to root it first
Don't think twice, perfect ROM for DHD is Android Revolution HD™ 6.3.1.

How's that, chief? You can use launcher themes to change the look of your phone interface, if you're really "into" that kind of thing. Yeah, sure, your settings menu won't change, but if you're gonna lose sleep over that, then your problems run much deeper in my opinion.
Another alternative for Oxygen is the kitchen, which has already been done by at least one user.

Android Revolution and Absolution are my two favorites... Can't go wrong with either and you get a mix of flavors, Sense (ARHD) and CM7 based (Absolution). I randomly switch between these two but Absolution has more development and updates happening than does ARHD.

ICS & JB Speed vs Oxygen..

Hey all..
For those praising the latest ICS and JB roms for their speed, have you ever been on Oxygen 2.3.2 ? That is worth saying it's flying..
I thought the time had come to switch to android 4 on my desire.. But after dozens of tries of different releases, it never comes near the speed of my daily (modded) Oxygen rom..
Thought I would share this to see if I am doing something wrong or if there are people who share the same feeling..
Last.. I would like to clarify that I don't want to disrespect the developers of the roms like Sandvold, Elk759, Nikez,.. I appreciate their work very much, but I don't understand the reviews from others users, especially about speed..
Greetz
Since Oxygen development has been discontinued awhile ago, is there any reason not to use it? Is it still based on the latest aosp code from Google, or has there been some important security updates that are missing from Oxygen? I'm also back using Oxygen after trying ics a few times. There was always some problems. And CM 7.2 allways reboots if I have walking navigation on, and I turn the screen off for a while to save some battery... With Oxygen everything works very snappy.

Oxygen development stopped a while ago indeed, there is an update by roalex that dates from april/2012
so thats pretty recent.. it also implements apps to sd-ext or data2sd in the framework, if you want it..
(i use the oxygenr2 hboot, gives me 330 mb.. more than enough)
Grtz
I really liked that Roalex version. Swype to clear notifications is alot smoother, ics animations are nice. But, standard apps to sd doesn't work properly. You can move apps to sd just fine, but you can't move them back. That's not a big problem but I just don't like roms that add something, and while doing that also break some standard functionality.

I agree with the speed of Oxygen Rom and would prefer it over any rom but right now I'm too dependent on CM7's tweaks its hard for me to go back to Oxygen.
via xda app
What tweaks..?
Everything under CyanogenMod settings.
Lol.. Very informative..
Flash the rom if you haven't and you'll literally get lost with all the settings available on the rom. It sacrifices a bit of speed compared to Oxygen but still a lot faster than any other rom out there.

Can't be more satisfied with its stable and snappy speed.
Since I am using Oxygen_R2 hboot for maximum data size, so CM7 is never an option for me.
If I am going to ICS/JB, I would rather change to a new device.

Few general ROM-related questions

Hello,
I was just wondering why Sense-based ROMs are always laggy and end up being unusable within an hour of flashing when compared to AOSP-based ROMs which (also tend to be a bit laggy) but to an extent where you can cope with it. I flash the ROMs correctly with the correct kernel and a full-wipe so I'm obviously a bit confused!
I was also wondering which ROM is mostly recommended for stability/general use/features? I don't mind if it's Sense based or AOSP. I'm willing to test out and try to be swayed away from my current cycle of flashing between Provision and Paranoid Android. The only thing that I like about Sense is the JellyBean Animations, the camera and of course, the clock widget. I love the whole appearance of AOSP though!
Thanks.
Get pacman 19.3 with super slick kernel v. Jan 3rd (anything newer breaks camera) and get the app one more clock (they have the sense clock you are looking for )
Pacman has 5mp camera is one of the most stable ROMs beside provision and basically all the features work.
In about 2-3 months we will have 4.2.1 probably solid stable and have everything working (total estimate i have no clue how close we are)
I swapped to evervolv 4.2.1 ATM and it works slick as butter (p1 ion build) but camera is totally broken but i didn't really use it.
Go for what you really want customization / stability / features i chose PAC because it had a lot of that all mushed into one package.
Sent from my HTC One V+ (Because the X+ isn't as bamf as my V+)
If I helped you don't say thanks, click it!!

Those are common bugs, especially the loudspeaker bug in AOKP.
Try a different JB ROM instead, like paranoid android or any other you may feel like trying and choose the one that suits you best.
That will wipe all the data off my phone ??
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
When switching roms you need to do a full wipe, so yes your data will be gone... unless you back it up with something like mybackup for root users or titanium backup or I think there's a new one out at the play store
Also, I recommend BlackJelly

Yes,installing a new ROM will as you will require a factory reset.
