[25 Jan] [MOD] [SD+NAND] Disable browser reflow for Sense Builds (Desire Z and HD) - HD2 Android NAND Development

I have ported snq- 's great mod to disable reflow after pinch zooming into Desire Z build. I plan to do one for Desire HD builds as well. (UPDATE: Desire HD package is uploaded) Here is the instructions:
Please do a full backup before anything else, I didn't have time to test this extensively, awaiting feedback from you
1- extract the attachment and get com.android.browser.apk (Browser.apk for HD build) into your SD card
2- open up root explorer (or any other file explorer with root access) copy that apk into /system/app (overwrite the existing file)
3- hold the file and select permissions, check them all.
4- shut down your phone, power up again.
5- well that's it, it would be nice to see some thanks button action
Here is what this Mod does in summary:
When you pinch and zoom, the browser tries to readjust the text and it doesn't stay where you zoomed in, it "jumps". You could temporarily correct this by typing about:debug into your browser and enabling GEP zoom from the options but it would go away when you restart the browser. this Mod makes this behaviour permanent.

You are FAR in the future !

thanks for reminding, my computer date was wrong, you saved me from big trouble

Maybe working on Desire HD?

I tried on one of my Desire HD builds and it didnt work. I can make one when I have time

what about the UA string do you know can i change it permanently ?

Desire HD version is uploaded. I tried it with Coredroid HD v0.4.

Ooooaahhh finally no text reflow anymore, thank you!
Working on Revolution HD ROM.

Nice discovery

I'm using it on stock but rooted and deodexed 1.72.405.3 (Desire HD) and it doesn't stick after reboot. Browser is definitely a different one because the icons in the menu are coloured now, but the GEP zoom setting just doesn't stay ticked.

GEP Zoom isn't checked on mine too, the important thing is the behavior stays same,no? You should be getting no reflow for pinch and zoom, and reflow for double tap zoom.

You could just write "about:debug" in adressfield and The option to disable it in the settings

that setting doesn't work properly on Sense builds, it gets enabled upon next restart of the browser.

thanks! working great on my DL Desire v4.31.44.12.

I've got a Desire S with Sense 3.5. How can I get this mod? I've decompiled browser.api but O don't know what xml I have to edit. Can someone help me?

[Q] The window closing animation is missing

I searched the whole forum and have not found a similar thread, so I start to doubt if just I have this question...
My question is:
Android has built-in windows opening and closing zoom animation. When I got my Desire I found it doesn't have the zoom animation. OK, let's say the HTC Sense UI does not go this way. Today I wiped all the data and flashed an OpenDesire ROM. This time the zoom animation is there when I tap to launch an app, but the closing zoom animation is still missing when I press HOME or BACK to go back to home screen... There should be a zoom out animation, am I correct? What I see is that it just flash back to home screen directly, no animation...
Anyone has some idea on this issue? Thx.
Use Spare Parts to set the Window animations, transition animations and even the speed of those animations.
I installed Spare Parts from the market. It seems that I can only set the animation speed, but no switch to turn on/off the zooming animation...
As you know i have the same query ... the reason that opendesire has the zoom effect is because it uses LauncherPro - you can also download it for the other roms... that makes the apps zoom when open / closed... but unfortunatly it doesn't support the htc widgets which is y i do not use it
Kris
I don't think OpenDesire uses LauncherPro, Adam says OpenDesire is compiled purely from Android source code, and all 3rd party apps used in the ROM are exciplitly listed. The effect is built-in with Android, you can confirm it by trying the emulator in SDK.
havent actually looked @ open desire ... but the screenshot looked like it was using it... guess the user could have installed it after tho

Ok perhaps you are correct, I think opebdesire just used a subset of LauncherPro to build the stock launcher. Anyway I installed LauncherPro and found it even faster than the stock one, of course the animations are there as I expected...

Anyone found a way to get these animations on sense?
Why in the world would HTC disable these animations, and not even give us the option to enable it? It's really annoying!
I remember (but not clearly) HTC Hero has this animation built in with Sense, any idea?

[Q] Missing zoom buttons in browser?

I have a desire with stock unrooted ROM. Its also been upgraded OTA to the latest froyo release.
I am sure the standard web browser used to have zoom buttons appear when you scrolled up and down but they have gone and I can't get them back.
Cleared the user data and removed the SD card but still they are not there.
Anyone know how to fix this?
you can pinch-zoom you know...
Yeah but the zoom buttons are great for one handed use. Gotta get em back.
Can anyone confirm the buttons are there on their desire with the latest build?

Zoom buttons
Zoom buttons is an option that can you can tick on/off in the browser settings.
I can't see that.i have set text size and default zoom but nothing else zoom related. What is the option called in your settings screen?

Because I am steering with my knees and I have a beer in the other hand
HTC have confirmed that the zoom buttons should be there on build 2.10.405.2 but they want me to send the phone back to the service centre to resolve the issue. Really don't want to have to do that!
Menu option
Just checked my menu.
*open standard webkit browser
*menu -> more -> settings (I presume, I have Dutch language menu's)
*beneath my 'standaardzoom' (standard zoom), I have the option to tick off/on 'Show visual zoom control'.
That's what you are looking for.

[MOD][ROOT] Change default homescreen - TouchWiz 4.0

Hello,
There's a simple way for those who want to change default homescreen.
You have to be rooted.
So, you first have to download a file explorer that supports root, for example Root Explorer(paid, I use this one).
Then, go to /system and open default.prop with text editor.
Now, add this line:
Code:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=3
Where 3 is the number of the default screen you want - 1. So default screen 4 => 3.
Now, just reboot and it should work. If you have any problem/question, feel free to ask.
At first: Sounds great! Thanks!
But:
Afaik (only from some (elder?) videos) it's possible to add and delete home screens. Could you tell me or try what happens if you set this var to e.g. 5 (=> default home screen is 4) but you only have 3 home screens at all? The same has to be considered if you accidentally delete the last home screen and this one is/has been set to default.
Worked perfectly! Thanks for the tweak was missing this feature from my past android phones.

Could it be made into a simple apk file?
Even easier - no root required
Sorry to steal your thunder -
Pinch zoom (helicopter mode) longpress & drag will do it.

Ian, the point of this mod is so that when you hit your home button, while in your homescreens, it will revert to the 4th screen. Normally when you are in your homescreens and then hit the home button again, it'll revert you to the first screen as default. This is the case even if you change the order of your homescreens using pinch to zoom.
Cool I hoped this was coming. Cant stand being on 1 as the home screen.
Thanks EleCtrOx666!
Works great.
If it is this easy to make the change I don't understand why Samsung didn't include it as an option in one of the configuration menus.

Just tried it: it will simply go to the last homescreen you have.

I'll see what I can do.
It worked great with root explorer, but not so much with ES File Explorer -- it does have a "root" mode, but it asks you whether you are using the CyanogenMod or the HiAPK rom.
For n00bs, like myself, it's also worth pointing out that you won't be able to edit the build.prop unless you click on the "mount rw" (read/write) button up at the top first. Afterwards, you'll probably want to click the "mount ro" (read only) at the top again.
Thanks a lot.

This works beautifully and something I've been pining for after moving from sense. Thanks a lot
I'm not an active Android dev. But isn't there a var you can call and just divide by 2?
Like:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen = ro.csc.homescreen.screencount/2;
Something like that? Excuse me if this obviously doesn't work, it was just a thought, as it would make it easier and won't require users to change that value whenever they change the amount of homescreens.
How did you find this setting? I'm interested if there are more useful settings like that.
hy EleCtrOx666
i'm a beginner in this so pls have a little patience with me.
I got a SGS2 and i'm interested to know if there's anyway to root the phone without flashing a custom kernel taking in account that u have this "nice" counter on the phone.
Very nice explained how to modif home-screen number.
is it here any way to get temp root?
hi sorry to be a pain, but i would love to be change my default home screen button, I followed the guide, and rooted my phone successfully (i think) and once superuser was installed I went and found the defualtprop file and edited it as guided by adding that line, i clicked save & exit (at which point it tells me it made a backup of the original file) then after I restart the phone it just goes back to normal, like I never touched the file...
anyone know where i'm going wrong?
Thanks, reminds me of my HTC Desire now with homescreen centred

This Guide explains how to do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
This doesn't work for me. I can't add that line. I've tried two different text editors and two root explorers (one with an editor built in) and they both say the file can't be saved. No other programs open. I restarted the phone and tried again.
Anybody else have this problem?
Thanks for the help via PM.
In case anyone else had my problem, it was solved by using Root Explorer. Click "Mount R/W", do the edit, save, reboot.
Works perfectly.

[Q] (Q) How to disable the Rotation control icon in Galle

I'm using the latest Hawkish rom and I'm loving it.....apart from the really annoying rotation control button in the gallery, which has to be pressed every time you rotate a photo.
I've noticed this is a feature in a few other roms too.
Could anyone please suggest a way to disable it somehow?
Thanks!

Not sure what you are reffering to for I haven't tested it personally, anyway you could install the stock gallery used by some phones like nexus.
Orrrrrrrrrrr just use QuickPic app from playstore

i've been using quickpic also, which is a great gallery app, but i slightly prefer the stock one. I've tried pushing a stock secGallery2 apk to system/app and changed to correct permissions but it just wont install.
I've tried the note 2 hidden settings app, but that doesn't alter anything either.

Yes QuickPic is different than the stock app because it's better
Did u reboot after setting up permissions?
i've solved my problem, i had another go withe note2 hidden settings app and it removed the rotatation button in the gallery, now the phone will automatically rotate to see a photo in landscape without having to press the rotation button every time.
Just a minor problem but it was really bugging me!

[Guide] Google lockscreen on Sense with workaround for Sense camera.

Before I start the Google lockscreen shortcut to camera is a 'dirty' fix using Tasker.
First things first let's get Google Lockscreen working.
(1) Install Root Explorer or similar
(2) Navigate to /system/priv-app
(3) Locate HtcLockScreen.apk
(4) Rename it to HtcLockScreen.apk.bak
(5) Reboot
Getting the lockscreen camera shortcut icon.
(1) That's easy install Google camera.
(2) Reboot
Linking lockscreen to Sense camera. This is where Tasker (or similar) comes in.
(1) Create a new Task called 'Camera'
(2) Add action App-Launch App
(3) Select Sense camera
(4) Finish Task
(5) Now create a Profile called 'Camera'
(6) Choose Application as the trigger
(7) Select Google camera
(8) Finish Profile
(9) Link 'Camera' Profile to 'Camera' Task
Now when you swipe left from Google lockscreen HTC camera will be launched. Here's a screen recording of this in action.

Its works. Thanks
Simple but quite effective.

Trying to understand the mechanics behind this a little bit before attempting. In essence, by renaming the HTCLockscreen.apk prevents the device from loading up the Sense lockscreen, and by installing Google Camera, that would render the AOSP lockscreen? I'm on a ROM that doesn't include the SetupWizard so I can't replicate the older method of running the SetupWizard after renaming to get the AOSP lockscreen.

I don't understand what you are asking. All this does is enable AOSP lockscreen and open Sense camera instead when Google camera is opened. Not sure how this would impact Setup?

I've tried using the old method of getting AOSP on KitKat and below, which involves renaming the HTCLockscreen.apk, then rebooting. Afterwards, you'd need to ADB and run the Google Setup Wizard to get the AOSP lockscreen working. I've tried just renaming it and with and without Lockscreen turned on, double tap to wake gives me a haptic vibration like it normally would, but it gives me a pitch black screen. If I press the sleep/power button, it would bring me straight to my homescreen/current screen.
Screen recording reupdate please? The Dropbox link has dead. I'm really appreciate your guide . That's what I eager to want, but I'm not capable of doing this without the practical video because I'm stuck in "(1) Create a new Task called 'Camera'
(2) Add action App-Launch App".
Thanks a lot!!!!
