but its 4g!! omg! hehe course i have wifi but I want to test out 4g speeds n stuff, and also my cousin plays SS4 on his PS3 while I play BB2 and MW2 on PC, and sometimes my lil bro is here too, so it would be nice to have an extra source of internets like 4g

Doesn't that product use your internet...? It just encrypts its data and broadcasts it as 4g... therefore making it useless for your scenario. Honestly they should just make those with really powerful antennas, and not charge people a dime, and install it on people's houses. More converage for everyone.

Simple answer: yes it does use your intetnet, read the page in which you linked to.
The Airave doesn't even broadcast 3G. It is voice only.

Yep exactly as he says. I have one and its voice only.
Actually, it will do data, just not 3G. 1X only. On top of that, the antenna is pathetically weak (works OK in a house, but take it to an office building and you'll be lucky to get four rooms covered, or in my case, not even two rooms), and the GPS restricts it to working in the US. I don't think it even works in Puerto Rico.
I'm also appalled that carriers are CHARGING for femtocells. Why should we have to pay to fix their network, which we're already paying for?

Sure, but what about those who are new customers, and just want a decent signal at their workplace? For those who haven't noticed, Sprint's signal is terrible at penetrating walls. Really. I'll get five bars outside of my building, then in a perimeter office or room I'll get three bars, and as soon as I go inside from there, it'll drop to one or zero bars. And if you're wondering, the walls are mostly glass windows. It's not like I'm in a two-foot thick brick coffin with grounded steel reinforcements.
I got an airave for free because I have 5 towers in a 2 mile radius...

Yeah, I know. My apartment in the middle of downtown Atlanta has zero bars. You could always try complaining and threaten to go back to where you came from and see what they can do for you.

Besides installing 20 femtocells in my office building, or buying new spectrum that penetrates well and giving me a phone to use them, all they're going to do is ask for an ETF and tell me to GTFO. There's plenty of coverage in the area, just not indoors.
and, they dont seem to work with the HTC EVO; been trying for 2 days to get the EVO to connect to it, but it wont...works fine with a cheapo Samsung slider though...

You're doing something wrong. It makes no different what model phone you use.
well, after 2 hours on the phone with a level 2 airrave tech, he admitted that alot of people with EVO's can NOT connect to this version of the airave, and, that a new version is due out any day, which should work on the EVO..
I guess some of us are lucky, and others are not..I was really hoping to get this to work, but I guess I will keep checking to see when the new model is released, and grab one of those..
here are the filings/manuals/pictures they submitted to the FCC on it, in April, so it should be out any day..

Is there anything else we can do with these just got mine today... works ok throughout the house but only full bars when in the same room. Any way to access the device (like a config screen) or add maybe another carrier to it or turn up the signal strength?

My EVO has worked fine with both the v1 and v2 samsung Airaves.
Regarding range issues, if you call Airave tech support, they can boost the power a bit.
I wish mine would have...
At first I thought I had a bad Airave, but, my sons ****ty Samsung Slider hooked right up to it..my wife's evo wouldnt work either

This is by the same company that makes a Galaxy SII patch lead. I've read all the threads about breaking the internal antenna by using an incorrect connector, but a couple of people mentioned towards the end that they tried this brand and it worked perfectly.
I'd like to try this because when I drive through WI I have very poor / no reception, even though I'm driving down the one corridor (I94/I90/I35) that T-Mobile is supposed to completely cover. Most of the time I can't even get enough signal to send a text. Since google maps can't do routing offline I really would like to boost my signal at least up to 2G all the way through the state, and if I got a good enough signal to stream music that would be even better. Also, it seems like I always hit a snow storm when I go through. I'd rather not be stranded w/o signal if something happened.
Hopefully this + a good (5db or greater) car antenna + a second phone back that I can drill a hole in would make the phone usable on road trips...
I think it's a risk of breaking that port. And besides, what kind of antenna are you going to connect? Isn't roaming offered if you were to NEED cell service? Have you tried flashing other radios from josteink's radio dumps collection? Which radio are you on now?
Don't take the risk, just get the Wilson cradle signal booster. And for maps, you can go into settings and download areas to offline cache.

I'm on T-Mobile pre-paid. They claim they have service but it doesn't come through. I've tried a couple of radios but this has been the case with other phones for the past 5 years. They just don't have much / any service. (T-mobile prepaid shows IA as having 2G service but they don't actually let you connect, even though they own the company that owns the towers).

I already have the official car dock so I'd rather not dispose of that. I can't download maps to cover the whole route - 400 - 500 miles - but even if I'm in an area I have downloaded I thought it needed networking to actually do the routing...

I can understand not wanting another dock. I don't have one so its hard to know what kind of solutions would work. Wilson makes many different adapters, antennas and amplifiers, check them out.
With maps, I believe you can download more area depending on level of zoom and I also think navigation would work as long as you start in a coverage area, been a long time since I used it and lost coverage. Not sure about rerouting abilities without coverage or cached maps. I would try to at least cache the areas you know have little to no service. You may be better with an offline solution such as Tom Tom, Navigon, or one of the many other ones. Keep us posted, interested to see what you come up with.

I am looking for a way to boost my 4G signal on my Galaxy SIII.
Either by buying an external antenna booster, or by creating something that I can put around my phone to boost the signal or something.
4G only - Verizon.
Also, I don't want to spend over 50 bucks.

I dont think such thing exists. You could create an antenna booster yourself using a mosffet and wires but that is to techincal for some people. Also that will look ugly as it will be sticking out.
don't know if this will work. but what about a cell phone booster sticker that they sold about 5-8 years ago? don't know if they still sell them or not its worth a try to look to see and get one to test.

Ha, a friend gave me one of those and it was a complete joke lol.
Might want to look into Wilson signal boosters for cdma networks. They are pricey but they work great. Available at radioshack

Not sure if you are looking to boost signal in just one location or not, but I know that my mom bought some signal booster from Verizon that plugs into her internet router for the house, which works great. I think it was like $150, but you may be able to find one used if this is what you're looking for?

Id be interested in this topic as well. My work building is a complete dead zone. But as soon as I walk outside I get service, so its not the whole area the doesnt get it.

The Verizon Network Extender is a femtocell built by Samsung. The one sold on the website now is $250, it requires a gps signal (so you have to put it near a window or run a cord to the window), and it's 3G, not LTE.

Repeaters are found in larger buildings where normal cell signal is weak. People can buy them to boost cell coverage in a area. You can set this up for either managed access (just phones you specifically lists) or open access (any VZW customer who happens by can benefit). Seems like the same thing in your case. @samstudent Thanks for That! That makes sense as I am in a large building where you barely get any signal. I do know that i was told one time the signal booster/repeater was for sprint so i'm not sure if i'm using it or 'Roaming' when using it. Could any of you give me some information regarding this?
I'm wondering whether to buy the LTE version or just get the non-LTE and use a 3g Dongle. Which one would have a better signal reception? ( I would most likely buy a huawei 3g dongle)
By the way, I am installing this in my car so having a good signal is paramount. Also, we don't have to worry about the 3g dongle being an obstructive addon as everything will be hidden behind the middle compartment.
I have a Nexus 7 2012 installed atm and GPS loses it's signal when I enter the city with buildings everywhere.
So hence I don't want to experience the same thing with my new nexus upgrade.
Any ideas or suggestions to my new upgrade would be greatly appreciated.

You'll lose gps no matter what. Buildings are always an issue. Happens all the time. Better to plan your route turn by turn and look at the list as you go.
Now what you could do is possibly try an external bluetooth gps puck and see if that has any impact?
As far as reception goes it depends on where you're at and what your coverage is like. You'll always have better luck with a mifi and an external antenna. The nexus non lte is much cheaper too. But either choice won't change your GPS troubles.
