[ROM] 30/01/11 Cyanogenmod 7.0.0 Beta3 (smoother graphics addons etc from other devs) - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

Original Thread Here
http://goo.gl/UA7CZ
Please Remember this is Test Beta and will have bugs.. its not a stable Release
Hello,
Here is the beta3 version of the upcoming CM 7.0.0 for HTC Hero GSM based on Gingerbread (android 2.3.2).
Download CM7 Beta3:
http://www.4shared.com/file/goHWiyZ6/update-cm-700-Beta3-Hero-signe.html
Gapps:
gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip from here http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/
ADD ONS by other Devs - added at end of post
1. Smoother Graphics Zip by l0st.prophet (NEW)
2. Updated the status bar and other icons, radio buttons, check boxes etc. for CM7
Note
- Before flashing make sure you do a total wipe data/cache wipe (expect if coming from beta1)
- over-clocking at 748 freezes the device for me, 710 is ok using smartass governor
Testers needed:
As I do not have a HTC Hero under my hand every time, I need testers to report back on each new build (along with a logcat, for each report). Follow me on Twitter http://twitter.com/loxdev
Please carefully read the thread and especially the first post to not report the same bugs every-time
Status:

I only just put cronos 0.0.9 on...
Should I give this a go?
Cronos is a bit slow. How's the speed on this one?

Progress!

I'm downloading now
There's no funny screen off animaton ;(

Is flykernel 12a supported?

Wooo! Im gonna try this out right away

Internet calling is working! !
I did it get it to work on cronos gb rom.

I second what dkelley said. Also I'd like to add that drawables look like triple **** in this version.

wow LoL... from lox's cm website link:
"Note
- Before flashing make sure you do a total wipe data/cache wipe
- overclocking at 748 freezes the device for me, 710 is ok using smartass governor"
well duh
don't try that at home guys - keep it in the 651 or 691 top speed are for most people please or your phone will not like you in the morning.
If I remember correctly lox's phone (well, assuming his girlfriend's phone that he tests this stuff on is his old phone) is one of those freaky 748-safe phones. If that's true then what he's saying here is that it's not able to run at his max clock speed. and if that's true and your own phone can often run stably @ 710, then you might find that you need to run @ 691 or lower with this rom.
that certainly coincides with my experience with cgb and with most froyo roms using the 2.2 JIT engine.
I'd hate to read about a bunch of phone lockups because they followed the OP's cpu speed comments on their own phones.

well that's good to hear
Progress - indeed. I think he said that this feature was untested but listed it as working - which probably means that it works in other builds so he hoped it would work. Maybe I'm wrong - but I'm sure he'll be happy to read that it works!

This thread is not a general, "air your gripes" thread.
Can we discuss solely the ROM mentioned in the OP, and keep on topic, please folks...

3D gallery is missing. Is there a way to add it?

Good work MODERATOR. Ok, some reviews here. Despite my apparent dislike for what Lox did, this ROM looks good if not as good as some other GB ROMs I have tried, you know which ones.

Worked out of the box, don't see many differences with cronos 0.0.9, except that sip calling works fine, the icons are tuned a bit better, skinning works, power widget was modified with new icons, more cm options are available. The disadvantage of CM7 beta 1 is that there is no apps2sd, but i'm sure that can be added quite easily in a rom based upon it.
The real fix still to arrive for any hero 2.3 rom is the general speed and smoothness in launcherpro/menu's and for the animations to work fine I guess. So far I prefer this cm7 release because of the little tweaks and improvements that cm7 brings.

Yeah, it looks stable and fast!

This is more buggy than Cronos Ginger 0.0.9 already 2 resarts and wifi is buggy im going back to Cronos Ginger

Aqtrans' CM-5.07 port for Kaiser/Vogue! [v1.2] [5/27]

This is my port of Cyanogen's latest Eclair build, v5.07-stable.
It is basically mssmison's 5.07-test3 build updated, I used the same process he did to port this one.
Included Apps:
-Connectbot
-Astro
-RogueTools
-LinPack
-HomeSwitcher
Notes:
-No major problems found so far (besides Eclair-specific problems like the Camera not working).
-Speed is comparable to other Eclair builds, maybe even a bit zippier at times.
-It should be fully compatible with any themes/mods made for Cyanogenmod v5.07-stable. (Although my attempt at flashing this theme sent my phone into an "android.power wakeup" loop, so be cautious!)
--Darkstar theme isn't working either, thx for trying @thebulletfromhell!
-It is set to 120DPI by default, so if running anything other than 320x240, you'll have to use RogueTools to adjust it. I am currently running it at 320x240x120dpi and haven't experienced many problems, except the top and bottom of the Dialer are cutoff, button's still reachable though. (If someone wants to help me fix this, please do, I just don't know where to start)
-Wifi support for the Kaiser is built in, should work out of the box!
-Starting with v1.2, Userinit.conf is added to the root of your SD, by default it has 16MB of Compcache, but this can be adjusted by editing the file.
Download! [Last updated on 5/29/10]
Changelog:
v1.3
-Removed userinit.conf, now everything is run directly from /system/bin/userinit.sh
-32MB Compcache by default
-Removed overclocking from the get-go. You can set it manually via RogueTools.
-Userinit.sh now renice's com.android.phone to try and improve ringing delay.
v1.2.1
-Removed redundant wlan.ko
-Replaced wlan.ko with kallt_kaffe's
-Reverted a change to userinit.sh that was causing awful performance
v1.2
-Removed Dropbox, Speedtest, Twicca, Shazam, 3Banana Notes, and LiveWallpapers
-Added Camera back (Fixes FC when trying to crop a wallpaper)
-Fixed Facebook Sync
-Userinit.conf is added to the root of SD card on first boot. This allows you to control Compcache, swap, and many other settings.

Woah, it's weird being in a different forum.
What is updated in this new version (1.1)? I'm still running the first one you posted in the Vogue forums (on a Vogue) and it's working great.
Cool!
Gonna try this one out.
Thanks a lot!

The updated version has wifi working for Kaiser, and some compcache tweaks done to /system/bin/userinit.conf. The first version I think I disabled compcache entirely, and it really showed once you got the build fully loaded.
any screens? how to install themes on Kaiser? Little guide please...
just downloaded going to give it a try
all live wallpapers dont work and show force close (exclude polar clock)
but its cool and fast (default it set at 450MHz and i set it to 500MHz)
Bench at 500MHz: MFLOPS:2.141
Times: 2.53s
Norm Res: 3.36
Precision: 2.224...
Maybe you add-in many of not neccessary app..
and one very good thing.. i have i think 320x428 and 120DPi in RogueTools. and its less blurry than thats sets in myn
Congrats for good rom.
exist CM with sense 2.1 on kaiser?
Compared to super eclair it has a few advantages:
-language dutch is included and fully working
-more options: look at call settings.
-market is fully working (for now), but no paid apps (super eclair market broke after using a time, not all apps can be found).
But less free ram.
Not really worth upgrading for me (I have 2 kaisers).
i've installed this build on my kaiser and it works great.
tested the wifi, the market, both work great. bluetooth turns on but i haven't had the chance to send or receive any files or to connect it to my wireless headsets.
did not test the data yet.
installed helix launcher and i think it moves a little bit faster than the regular home screen.
thank for the upload

Here's a guide to installing to NAND. The build is not themed at all, so you can check out the official Cyanogen thread for screenshots, they should look identical (besides a smaller res).

Yeah I just noticed the Live Wallpapers crash, didn't try this out before. Not sure if it's possible to fix it, I don't remember them working on any other Eclair builds.
Also, I noticed that /system is running low on space, so I will definitely try to trim some fat by removing pre-installed apps.

Not that I know of. But there is a QVGA Android phone with Sense coming out sometime this summer, and I'm sure someone will attempt to port it.
From the vogue thread...
Great build, I'm running it right now, and it thus far seems to be fast and stable! (bumped up the o/c to 500)
Two pieces of feedback...
If you can get facebook sync to work with the most current facebook app (the one with the "inbox" button rather than the "take photo" button it would be amazing. As of now, the only way to get facebook sync to work is to run the Moto Droid apk, which is the previous version.)
Anyway to get full market from the getgo? I have marketenabler working, but it isn't always consistent.
That being said, amazing build. Good work.

@GeJohnO: Looks like this is a known issue with the original Cyanogen
A few known issues;
* Facebook from market breaks sync for Market users (see forum for alternative apk) - only on Dream, Sapphire is OK. Blame Facebook.

I'll look into including whatever alternate APK in the next build.
Also I found that taking out the Camera app causes Gallery to FC when trying to crop a wallpaper, so I'll fix that as well.
I just got a text message from the 24th of this months with super ecalir lite, I don't know if this version hzs those issues too?

The darkstar theme hasn't been released for 5.0.7 stable. The most current release is for test5. This may be why it's not working for you
I tried mssmison's test 3 out, and it was problematic. A lot of stuff would end up resetting the phone, back to the start up animation. Haven't tried this one yet, but my experience with Eclairs have been bad so far.
Wish there was a way to run Android on both NAND and SD cards. That way, I can test them out on the SD card, without destroying my NAND installation.
Running this port since yesterday and I must say I'm really impressed. Fast, responsive and also it seems not to drain battery as fast as other builds.
Any chance of getting Corporate Calendar in the next version (currently Exchange sync works only for Mail and Contacts in this build).
Version 1.2 posted! Changelog in the OP.
I tried adding the modded Market, but it kept FC'ing whenever an app would go to install. Looking at the thread, it seems like a known issue, without a fix that I could find

Suggestions for 1.3
- Remove /system/etc/wifi/wlan.ko (not needed)
- Replace wlan.ko /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko with the attached version (I believe it works better for Polaris users)
I was about to suggest increasing the wlan scan interval but I noticed that you hade allready done that.
I've had problems with builds that have sensors.msm7k.so all by itself so I added the sapphire sensors before I installed v1.1 as a precaution but I'll try without doing that once I reinstall with v1.2 and I'll let you know how it goes.

7.Flash ROM
8.Flash extra_appsXXXXXX
9.Reboot
10.Reboot a second time
remember, complete wipe is always best
binding restart a second time after the first firstboot
It's highly recommended restarting a second time to allow the system to settle down.
It would be better to wait 30 seconds after the start of the device to permit full loading of the system, even if the lock screen is already visualised.

You can use gscript-lite to enable/disable compcache
Add these scripts:
disable compcache (SU required on)

Wait a moment...You made hanser01 closing his topic because "Cyanogenmod is a beta so it is better to not develop with it" and now YOU are using CM sources?? Is the world still working like I knew a few years ago or it is suddenly changed??

hanser01 was using Cyanogenmod 5.0.8, that is Beta and unstable, this is using Cyanogenmod 5.0.7.

That was not my intention, I was just pointing out the difference between ROM's nothing more.
Anyhow, back on topic.
How would I go about pushing a new apns-conf.xml and have it load as default using this ROM?
I have tried pushing to /system/etc, rebooting (wipe dalvic & factory reset) and then loading in default APN's in the setting menu, but what I added to the xml file does not show.

Calm down! It was enough to explain me that 5.0.7 is NOT a beta while .8 is. I got it and I'm sorry to have misunderstood! This is it. By the way if I want to talk about what happened with hanser I have the right to do it, maybe not in this section, but I can! While YOU have no rights to tell me what I can or can't do.
Coming back to the thread...The automatic brightness doesn't work... It is stuck on the last level and to recalibrate it you have to push the sleep button and then rewake the phone. Well it goes against the idea of "automatic" don't you think? Hope you can solve it and, again, I'm sorry to have had doubts about beta or non-beta! My fault!
PS: To be more clear - If I put the phone under a lamp the brightness increases but when I turn-off the lamp the brightness still stays on that level even if I'm in a complete darkness! And the screen doesn't dim... Any idea?
Hi robin, is Amon-ra recovery full compatible with App2SD in this rom? Thanx
wtf...wifi and 3g doesn't work for me :S
No problems with wifi or 3G here.
But 3D performance is still very bad, as bad as in CR1. Also the colors are not correct.

Why 20min? Also, I still can connect it to PC. Device is offline via ADB.
WOW !! Froyo for the Hero at last - been waiting for this - ill test
Some Screenshots please
How is it slimmed down?
Don't mix up AOSP with CyanogenMod..
And how is this different from the CM 6 alphas?
Linpack is 5012.
BenchmarkPI is 7200ms.
691Mhz.
Also, it counts as a cheat, since the 16 ROMs I've tested didn't have JIT enabled.
Pro-tip: Don't wait 20minutes. Restart the phone 3 times.
In order for Jit to work the java files need to be processed and this takes time. Plus if you have lots of music the album art will be processed too... etc.etc.
ADB works but you need latest driver and might have to reinstall the driver if in windows.

It is faster, because it has JIT enabled, by default.
2.1 ROMs with JIT are similar (but slightly inferior) to this ROM.

[ROM][05/05/2012][HOLD] LightSense 1.2 ~ fast ~ light in ram ~ UV ~ volume track skip

This ROM is based on the Tun4fish version of Desire_Gingerbread_Sense 1.2 by siulmagic (thanks a lot!!)
I modified this rom and mixing with other rom find in the original HTC Desire section in XDA. Thanks to all developers of original HTC Desire!
This is SENSE 1.9 with some little things from SENSE 2.1 like notification quick settings and notification last apps!!!
This rom is full multi language!!
I decided to make this rom because I love sense, I love speed and I love free ram for multi tasking.
The original tun4fish rom was great, but I decided to make a lighter and international version with some tweak for usability.
Please tell me if you find bugs!
~Changelog ~

- NEW Sim unlock fix (com.android.phone FIXED!!) for 1.0: update_fix_sim_lock (the old one not working)
(after boot you have to wait 10 - 20 seconds before unlock your sim card, because you have to wait the script to kill com.android.phone, and wait android system to restart correctly com.android.phone. After some seconds you will notice that the signal return. After that you can unlock your sim with pin code).

Hey, did you tried with flashing unity v10 kernel? maybe this will help, I see you have v5 kernel already, so maybe newer could hopefully solve some problems.
Affinity uses this kernel, so you can find it there or someone may post link to flashable zip with kernel only.

Yeah, but new unity kernel have a lot of strange problems in ALL roms:
1) Camera flash lag:
When you use camera flash and CPU speed is not at 384mhz, the flash have a lag (is faster, cause is syncronized with clock speed i think).
Only at 384mhz works well.
2) 384mhz issue:
384mhz isn't really 384, but ~ 800mhz.
frequencies > 384 and < 800 are worse than 384mhz.
So CPU will jump from 250mhz to 384 (that are 800mhz) and then to 480mhz, 520, 614, 700.. 800.. 900..
245 - 800 - 400, isn't a good thing.. also UV is bad for this reason, I made a patch for setCPU to disable freq > 384 and < 800, but is only a stupid patch for making UV and have good performance. The problem persists and you can't have good scaling with that kernel.
I tried that kernel on Virtuous sense 2.0.0 and Android Revolution HD 7.0.2.. same issue!
Also last unity kernel have that issue.. I don't understand why no one noticed that
I would love to take a look to unity v10 and rcmix v12 kernel, but I have never read linux kernel, and i think it isn't easy to understand if you do not know where are the important parts of code..
Edit:
I just flashed unity kernel.. camera flash lag is here out of 384mhz, and 384 performs like 800mhz..
btw this bug is present also in RCMIX v12.. same bug, same part of code, I think..
I can't find source of unity v10 and rcmix (I only found source of unity v6)
This is great! Thanks! I'll let you know what bugs i find!
So far I have only needed to wipe the data for the market to get it to stop force closing =)
Edit: it's also got the classic GB Sense Orange LED bug. Pretty minor stuff. I think Siulmagic figured that one out. He's moved on to the G2x, but he might help us out with that one.
Lightflow from the market is a temp workaround for it. I think you just install it and enable it and it turns the led off after a few seconds.

Thank you! I'll make same test when I get time.
In the original rom by Siulmagic this bug is fixed, I have to check if the tun4fish rom introduced that bug or it's my rom only.
I think the bug is in the framework or something similar.
I'll find where is the problem and I'll try to fix using the incriminated file from the original siulmagic rom (without that bug)
Today I've discovered that my phone has powered down twice.
I deleted com.htc.launcher because I use Nemus Launcher, but I'm going to restore it and see if it happens any more. Besides that, I've done no other modifications besides reinstalling apps.
I'll let you know if I find this happening any more.

Using this rom I don't notice similar issue, but I changed kernel to unity v9.
BTW let me know if the problem returns.
---
Now I'm making Light Sense 0.2.
I'll remove orange led bug, brightness "bug" and the green glow overscroll that I don't like.
I have modified framework-res.apk to create a new charge animation because the old was ugly IMO.
I hope to introduce other things. I would love to prevent rosie rotation..
Those all sound like good changes to me! Never really liked the overscroll glow effect anyway.
After a few days on this, I'd say this rom has some of the important features of sense (contacts/social integration) with the speed and multitasking of aosp. Good stuff.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
Good idea to make a real fast and clean sense ROM. I allways wonder why people only developed those laggy sense 3.5 roms. If the bugs are all sorted out i'll take a tour!
Grtz
I'm having some problem in editing framework-res.apk.
I think the problem are the permits or something similar.
Now v0.2 boot with chmod on framework-res.apk, but miss some feature of An-Droid rom, because mixing the framework I can't boot.
I'll find a solution in some days.
Is trackpad wake still going to be enabled, and only trackpad unlock removed?
regarding framework-res.apk, are you simply replacing the image files for the charging animation? If so, make sure the names match exactly, and that there are the same number of files after. If there are extras, I don't think it matters, but less will break it. I think.
I'll see if I have time to try and find a tidy solution to removing the overscroll glow.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
I got rid of the green overscroll glow.
Here is the framework-res.apk:
http://db.tt/B0c0gnw0
Just put it in /system/framework/
And set the permissions to rwx, rxx, rxx
(Is that chmod 644?)
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
Thank you =JKT=
Now I'm at work to finish the new version
I hope to upload v0.2 in some hours
PS: trackpad wake is here, removed only trackpad unlock.
PPS: uploading now on minus. Now I go to sleep, tomorrow will post the direct link for version 0.2 for now use my minus page, you will see 0.2 when upload is done.
big news in this version!! Led bug is gone, new stuff from sense 2.1, for now only deodexed, for now battery percentage is gone (give me some days to re insert this as flashable update)

EDIT1: About GPL
As you can see @andyharney has checked sources and reopened all closed threads.
Kernel sources were available on GitHub FOR A MONTHS.
And YES, kernel wasn't modified since CM9 RC2. It's the same old kernel.
Here comes the link: https://github.com/MaclawStudios/android_kernel_maclawstudios
You can also apply 2.6.35.7 to 2.6.35.14 patch if you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=779403&d=1321023939
Also, I noticed that some of you are doing everything to destroy our work, and that's why we aren't publishing device profile sources. By the way we don't have to do this. We've developed device profile from scratch on closed license and we just won't publish it, just like Samsung. You can still use our old device profile or Jellaxy one.
EDIT2: About Deep Sleep in Beta 3
I noticed some people experiencing issue with deep sleep after installing the update. If you are affected by bug, please turn off Google location services. We’ll try to fix it in next release.
EDIT3: About something called "Seeder"
Please, don't use famous app/hack called "Seeder". We did a quick research and /dev/random isn't used in android frameworks anywhere. Seeder will improve performance ONLY in some custom apps or cryptography functions, and that's why... we've integrated seeder tweaks in beta3. Installing "Seeder" would only decrease your phone's performance because it will work in background and waste your RAM.
EDIT4: Bugtracker
Please, use bugtracker if you want to report a bug:

Good job! For alpha1 version sounds great! Downloading it right now!
By the way, at the moment this AOSP it's better than erikas's one
it works great for me so far
deepsleep is working, yt hq is smooth
everything is butter smooth
notification toggles are not part of aosp i guess (better make use of widgets then)
no random reboots
does it support a2sd ext or i have to take my chances
good work!

A mini-bug I've found:
When you try to enter the "Select time zone" menu from "Date & Time", nothing happens - you get back to Settings menu
Also, I don't think this is a bug, but there are not status bar toggles Please implement this, even if maybe it's not AOSP - think that if Samsung would release ICS for Gio, there would be status bar toggles, as in Gingerbread stock rom.
bad work!
- random reoboots/hot reboots, nothing stable for me ...
- you modded the rom, it isn´t a clean aosp!
* You added Superuser
* You added Reboot Option in Power Menu
* You changed Bootanimation (Normal AOSP uses one in framework-res.apk)
* You added GApps ...
Normal AOSP Size is around 100 mb, so why urs is around 120 mb?
sry but AOSP means for me, that nothing will be customized, pls marcin, i know you are a gr8 developer but provide flashable packages for extra stuff! and not customize it in rom directly
It's great as it is! What difference is if you install GApps later or if it comes preinstalled? Same goes for SU!
