Is there a way to sim unlock for free HTC Desire? - Desire General

Hey
I imagine that this has been asked 1000 times but I couldnt find something updated/current about this (just old threads)
Is there a way to sim unlock for free HTC Desire s?
Thanks

The fact there are only old threads would suggest that there is no way of doing it for free...

I tried looking for ages around here and elsewhere. I found nothing to indicate that you can unlock it for free. Which sucks. I think that T-Mobile do it for free after 1 month (or at least they use to). I had to pay for mine but it's worth it in the end if your using custom ROM's.

You people clearly weren't looking hard enough now were you lol

People have been leaving comments all month saying that it works

I unlocked my Desire using the above method (bootable linux cd)
Just because they are old threads doesn't mean they don't work.

Thanks for your email to Virgin Media about the android 2.2 froyo update.
We have had a look into this for you and we can advise that we have not been updated with when this update is due to be released.

Thats the problem with trusting different networks for upgrades. They are a massive pain as unlocked users got it ages ago whilst the rest of us have to wait ages.
Just take the HTC vanilla Froyo. I did and it's great.

You just need to root (should be a sticky thread under Desire Development) then choose a rom of your choice.

I got it from here as at the time it was the easiest download.

It's some dodgy looking Chinese site but it worked out fine. I didn't root or anything and I can't quite remember if I used a goldcard or not - probably did as it's needed to get round branding.

[Q] Rooting/Overclocking the Wildfire S

Hi there guys.
I was wondering if anyone had any guides for rooting and overclocking the Wildfire S (Running 2.3 (Gingerbread)), and also if anyone knew any clock speeds that should get me a nifty enough speed boost while keeping battery life relatively decent.
Thanks in advance.
The Wildfire S can be rooted with the use of GingerBreak. However before you can use that tool, you have to unlock the bootloader with an XTC Clip.
The default clockspeed of the phone is fast enough :-S
Ah. That could be a problem... I don't have the money for an XTC Clip.
The XTC PayG clips are reasonably priced.
Still don't have the money. I'm using it up on the phone...
EDIT: Modestly priced my ass! That's around £50 less than the damn phone itself!
AlpharevX team are testing a new version which works for the Wildfire S. Some hopefully some time soon you will be able to unlock it
maybe no one is working on wildfire S make some mods and root, same in symbian modding it's stagnant where did the modders go. I'm new to android forums nothing
I can see here to play with my phone, it's just on the table all the time unlike when I have the X6 keeps me busy flashing hundred times and cooking every night just need JAF and some tools to cook a CFW. no hardware needed.
There is work going on. It's just difficult because of the bootloader encryption but the Alpharev team have sorted that. I expect a few weeks before the unlock for the Wildfire S is public then there will be a lot more modding and ROM cooking happening.

Ah, that's good to hear. Stuff like the XTC Clip is way too expensive for me... Wish HTC would just unlock the bootloader. Save a lot of work...
I was lucky enough to get one free, HTC should be unlocking them soon hopefully.

I've asked them what's the story with bootloaders via Facebook. No response since that time. I think they just did it for marketing purposes, and now they will fool us for couple of months

I might as well ask them too. I mean, I'll be looking to root it only when the warranty is completed anyway, so I have a year...
Well I read an article on Phandroid a few weeks ago and HTC said that they are creating a new upodate which will unlock the Sensation. No word on any other phone.

The XTC PayG clip is 32 pound; so you're saying you bought the phone for 80 pound?! I find that hard to believe; the phone is still 259 euro in the NL.

The place I saw it on my Googling was over $200, which comes down to around £120-130.
That is for the full clip which is basically the commercial version.

£50-60 is still really expensive though. I'm not really prepared to pay that much just to root something. Seems like a waste.
Could see if any local phone shops have the xtc clip. They would charge about £10

[ThumbsDown] Now What???

Received my brand new Droid Incredible 2 today from Asurion. And as you might have guessed, 2.3.3 is present
I know that currently, the only way to root(s-off) is with the xtc clip. Has anyone heard about any progress on rooting these yet without the clip? Where the heck do you even get these clips? There's a ton on Ebay, but all seem different. If someone could link me to one, just so I know, I would appreciate it
Other than this, the phone seems pretty legit. Sure, it's not as "pretty" as the Inc 1 but hell, It runs very smoothly. I can't imagine what a custom rom will do to it. After becoming a flashhead(lol) with the OG Inc, I am ready to dig in to this one!
mine comes sometimes this week... im in the same boat as you.
i have no problem buying a cheap single use xtc clip off ebay.. but i dont like the idea of perm s off...
Yeah that sucks. I didn't like the idea of permanent root either. My HTC phones are prone to messing up and needing a replacement. I don't want 2.3.3 though even if i do get one. Honestly I would expect someone to try. Sooner or later people will only have GB on the inc2
Give it some time and GB will be rooted.

Is this legit? I thought if it came preloaded with 2.3.3, you couldn't use AlphaRevx

What version is your hboot? Far as I've heard it won't work on 2.3.3... Wonder if anyone has tried it? Sure am glad mine had 2.2
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
Gingerbread has to be rooted first. the bootloader has not changed, so it does not need a new exploit. Once 2.3 is rooted, the alpharevx can then incorporate that method for s-off. Please correct me if I am wrong

Is there any way I can restore my apps that I backed up with Titanium, without having root access? If not, what should I do?
to answer your XTC clip question, you should be fine with the cheaper red PAYG clip. It's the same exact thing as the more expensive one, except its based on a credit system. you need to buy a credit for every phone you unlock, but it comes with one preloaded credit and if you're only unlocking one phone, then its not worth it to get the unlimited. I got mine from FoneFunShop, and it delivered in about a solid week

HTCDev.com is up!

I figure since it is a DEVELOPER center for HTC phones, it deserves to be in the Dev section! Anyway, OpenSense SDK, Kernel Source code, and unlock bootloaders soon to come!(hopefully for Inc2 as well...) Who is excited??

(EDIT) Please go to http://htcdev.com/contact and tell them to unlock all of the inc 2s that were "graced" with gingerbread...

Technically, yes. If you have an XTC clip or a Froyo phone (which are harder to get as every day goes by). So, in response to your statement I'd have to say yes, but not really.
From the way they've been explaining things it's going to be device specific, and our device hasn't been mentioned. It would be nice if all HTC devices were able to just be unlocked.

yea but you have to submit all this information. I'd get an XTC clip. all of them are unlimted now. and I'm sure raskal is going to continue to do his thing, I'd rather pay for a device that can s-off a numerous number of phones for a one time price. I'd rather not root than give my information and have them monitor to see if I am tethering and what not.

Its would be a hard decision to choose free vs. private/unlimited (assuming that HTC releases it for Inc2...)
Just because you unlock your bootloader doesn't mean they are gonna be out there to see if you tether.

As long as Verizon doesn't extend their hand into this it may very well be a great thing.
Damn, I hope HTC will release the unlocked bootloader for Inc2, will save me $15! I'm wishing I didn't return my S-OFF'd Inc2 for a brand new Inc2 (other one was banged up badly). Anyone in LA/San Bernadino County want to meet up so I can S-OFF my phone? I'd be extremely great full, PM me if you're in either county!
HTC is asking us what we want from this site...
I would include the link, but cannot post a link yet... but goto htcdev.com/contact
... you think we can make our presence known and that we want our Inc2 unlocked!
Well they said the Evo3d and the Sensation, but I see a picture of the desire s, hopefully this will be for all HTC devices.

[Q] S-OFF & Root

I am having HTC One M7 4.4.2 and I want to root it and S-OFF. Because I use it international and cannot update without CDMA, also too much bloatware from Verizon. How can I get root? I installed weaksauce 2 but when I install SuperSU it fails. Also is firewater working? I have a copy of firewater that I used for my M8 but when I follow instructions nothing happens...

This has been discussed many times, although everyone is entitled to they're opinion, alotta ppl don't seem to think about the 1000's of man hours and all the devices that the devs of sunshine have hard bricked in the process of giving us this exploit... And they've also provided us with PLENTY of free exploits in the past, so $25 is more than reasonable, especially considering it obviously wasn't an easy thing to come up with, considering they're the ONLY ones who have been able to crack/ slay the dreaded S-on / S-off Dragon.. I've said it MANY times, n I'll say it again, best$25 I ever spent.

Gotcha. Yeah like I said, it really is the best$25 I ever spent, if u plan on having the phone awhile, n like being able to customize as u please, I'd definitely recommend it. Especially considering its only gonna get harder and harder to gain S-off as time goes by. And for us Verizon guys, it's a double win, since we can't get bootloader unlocked through htcdev, and sunshine does it.
