GPS on Chinese 2.2 ROM - Defy General

Is anyone else having trouble finding GPS sats with the Chinese ROM? I can fix on 1 maybe 2 at the most outdoors. I tried using endomondo and trackerbooster, but to no avail.

On mine, it's AGPS that isn't working...

Can anyone with the chinese rom please check if their GPS is working?

I'm one jboogie's Froyo Beta 2, which is based on the Chinese ROM and I get a location in Google Maps using only wireless location (GPS turned off), so I assume AGPS is working for me?!

So does that mean GPS works?

So, I just tried my "regular" GPS: Even indoors, standing at a window, I got up to 7 fixes, so I suppose my GPS is working just fine.

Yep, it's AGPS that's not working for me.
I wonder if it's because I didn't do the BLUR registration.
I suggest you to go back to stock ROM and see if it's the same.

[News] Were you having GPS issues over the weekend?

http://www.xda-developers.com/android/galaxy-nexus-gps-issues-over-the-weekend/
Just posting this so everyone knows what's going on. On Sunday I was having the worst time figuring out why my phone couldn't lock onto a GPS signal, and now that I've heard this the issue seems to be fixed. I ran a quick fix on some GPS apps and all of them seemed to work (GPS Doctor, GPS Test, GPS Status).
Reports have been said that some meteor passed by earth (?) or a solar storm hit a group of satellites.
Hope this clears up the confusion.
Yeah, glad everything is back to normal now >10s locks

Reset aGPS data in tools with this and then download the extra data in tools:

I've posted this elsewhere, but we had a solar storm this past weekend.

Google may have had issues with the gps satellites. Just my two cents.

No seriously, provide a little more information and we can help you. There are lots of different gps tweaks. What version/ROM are you on? Carrier? Country?
I have the same problem (4.2.2 Stock). GPS just doesn't work. I tried a lot of stuff (including factory reset)... and nothing.

Also need more info from you too. Are you rooted at least? Makes a big difference if you are able to modify the gps.config file or not.

If you haven't done already: verify all location settings are turned on in the settings menu as well as in t the Google settings app. Download GPS status app. Go outside. Fire up the app and let it try to acquire. If that doesn't work, in gps status reset agps data, download agps data and try again. Did this work?
If you're rooted, you can just flash a better radio. That's what I did and it has improved drastically.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345
If it's a fresh fix it can take up to 5 or 10 minutes at least, outside.
Start maps and make sure gps is attempting to acquire location and just wait. But be outside.

That's what I thought because I did not change my ROM or any other settings. Simply flashed a different radio.
What could the reason be then?

I would imagine coincidence.
Clear AGPS data with GPS Status as mentioned and use FasterGPS to change your region to North America or wherever you live. That should provide you with a faster fix.
My GPS suddenly on the fritz as well
Had the GSM Gnex about 10 months. Approx 10 days ago I start noticing the GPS status bubble in the notification bar (not filled in). I've messed with it, used a couple of the tools mentioned in this thread, no help. I've done power off, factory reset last night, all no help. It appears slow to find sats, never acquires. Stock 4.2.2 unrooted.
Any chance reloading 4.2.2 would help? Any advantage to doing so over factory reset?
Still under warranty I guess, but really prefer to solve myself if possible.
Thanks!

Does gps status acquire a position lock? Does maps acquire? Toro or Maguro 4.2.2? Are you inside or outside?

No, as mentioned in my original post, it slowly seems to find a couple satellites sometimes (last night in hotel running "GPS test", but never acquired).
Maps don't acquire. Today, inside or outside at lunch, couldn't even get it to find a satellite with "GPS status" app. The circle just spins and it says "looking for GPS location". I only gave it about 90 seconds outside as I was walking.

I assume you have an active sim and the phone has data service?
One last diagnostic - try to let the gps acquire outside for up to 10 minutes. If that doesn't work I'd recommend flashing back a factory image. If the factory image doesn't work you've got a hardware issue.
GPS problems
Yeah, SIM/phone works fine, just sent a test email now w/wireless off to ensure data is good, it arrived.
I'll try to reload JDQ39 tonight after work, already downloaded it last night.
Thanks for the help/recommendation.

Since last reboot, none of my apps requiring GPS (facebook, gas buddy, Maps, etc.) are working. I've looked to make sure that Mock Location isn't check. Gas Buddy is always askin me to make sure that GPS is enable and everything is check'd in the Location section...
Any idea ? Fix perm and reboot didn't make it...

Agreed. I have uninstalled Maps and everything. I know there are 2 places to enable GPS and loaction and they are both enabled. Still cant locate me. Hoping there is a fix for this?

Cool. Will give that a whirl if I need to.
I downloaded GPS Status from the playstore and did a GPS reset/download data and I'm able to finally get a GPS lock and use Waze, etc.
I could not get any stable GPS lock for the past 2 days before -- was a little annoyed by that.
I even rebooted to ensure GPS still getting lock and it is.
I'm hoping this stays working but will keep an eye on it.
Thanks,
Dennis

To everyone that's successfully get GPS lock, can you confirm if the GPS is still working under airplane mode please. Just to make sure the GPS data is not from a-GPS.

It's been almost a month now. The way I get GPS to work for me is:
1) Use GPS status ; use Tools->Manage A-GPS state; then click Reset and then Download.
2) Go outside or near a window and get a lock ; the lock should not take that long. For this step, I like "GPS Test" app (not sure it actually makes a difference but it seems to).
3) Keep GPS turned on (for Kitkat, it will be in Battery Saving mode and not used much until something asks for it.
If I do this, I've gotten consistently working GPS and locks that don't take long at all (usually less than a minute and usually faster than that).
I use Waze to/from work 5 days a week and a few times during the weekend.
BTW, I'm running CM 11 2014 05/09 nightly for hlte on my Note 3 n900t. I don't think the ROM matters.
If I reboot or power off, I plan to use the above 3 steps. Having to do this is not optimal but having a predictable way to get GPS working is useful.
Dennis
Hmm might be why I don't seen to have a problem GPS, I leave it on all the time since it doesn't use the battery unless an app is actively using it.

I wouldn't flash this. Only one person said they did without causing problems for their phone and it didn't fix the issue (for them).
You are better off trying the TOPNTP app instead. I have GPS on all the time and don't have a locking problem.
Same problem here. When I use the GPS TEST it works. When I try using Waze or Google Maps, nothing. What's funny, if there's some fun in this, is that waze works ok in background when GPS TEST is open. At least I get voice directions. When I try oppening both in multi-window, Waze stops again... I've tried everything, from stock to every rom I found, but nothing makes the GPS works with Waze and GM.
