[Q] Copy calendar from HTC HD2 to Desire HD - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Moving from HD2 Winmobile to Android DHD, I have the following newb question.
I like to copy the calendar from HD2 to the DHD not using anything like Synch SW or Google.calendar or similar.
I like to do it via Bluetooth but it does not work.
Any clever idea.
Thanks a lot and regards
Rolf

There's an app on the dhd called transfer data.......try that. It should import contacts nd calendar events....havent tried it though.

I really recommend you setup a Google account on your HD2 to sync your calendar and when you setup Android and Gmail account it will do the rest by itself.
I was in your shoes and this is what I have been doing now with calendar and contacts and it's so easy and works perfect, plus if anything were to happen like you lose your phone you won't have to worry since everything is backed up.
If your interested here is how to setup a GMail account to sync on your HD2:

Thanks for the hint. I tried last night and the app works find, however the app has predefined options and it does ONLY work for contacts. No calendar entries !
@ero22, the company pc is locked and we can't install anything
How about copy the file which contains the data 1:1 ?
does anybody knows the file Name ? Thanks

Looking for advice on HTC Sync, Outlook 2003 & Google Calendar

Hi all.
I'm looking for a little advice.
I currently use Outlook 2003 at work along side HTC Sync (HS) to sync my calendar entries to my Desire.
Is it possible to sync (only) the HS entries on my phone to a specific Google calendar? Ideally I'd like to sync the HS items into an online Google calendar just for work so I can see it online when I don't have my phone.
Happy to use an app if that's the only way...
By the way I can't use the Google Sync app for a couple of reasons; my company regards it as a security risk and it doesn't allow you to select the specific google calendar that you sync to - at least not as far as I know.
Thanks in advance.
Setting => Account & Sync => Add An Gmail Account => Sync Calendar
if u can't use this , there is a plugin for outlook that allows u to sync your outlook calendar & contacts , with Your Google Calendar & contacts ( if that's of any help ) , it's quite easy to find if u google it ...

Thanks Skywalker1726, but that's not quite what I meant.
My fault should have been clearer. I already have my phone set up for my google account but I have several calendars in that account.
As far as I can see I can't select a particular calendar to sync my Outlook items to. It looks like only Google calendar items can be changed.
I don't suppose you know the name of the outlook plugin? I tried googling for it and came across way too many dead beat apps.
Just to repeat I'm looking for a way (or a phone app) that allows my to select a specific google calendar for the items I have synced to my phone using HTC Sync.
Here is the link , Hope that helps !
Quite good but not quite right...

Thanks for the link and the suggestion.
unfortunately, it's "too similar" to the Google Sync tool and therefore my company think it's a security threat (I know there are worse things out there but go figure )
I suspect that I need something that works on my phone and allows me to select different calendars to sync back to.
Bump - any suggestions...?

If I'm understanding correctly you want your Outlook calendar to be synced "to the cloud" (in this case Google) which you can then access from your phone (or online when you don't have your phone).
I had a look and can't find any apps that will copy your phone calendar to a Google calendar. As you are using Outlook 2003 and can't use Google sync your options are a bit limited.
If your company uses Microsoft Exchange then you should already have remote access to your email / calendar on the web and you can also connect your Desire to this using the built in HTC calendar app. Your IT person should be able to get you set up fairly easily.
The only other solution I know of is to use a third party sync program - outlook 2003 doesn't support saving calendars in ical format (which you could have used as a manual workaround).
Sorry not to be more help...
Fair enough. Thanks for trying. Unfortunately my company are quite backward about their use if IT so pretty much any sync app or Exchange integration is out.

I am using gSyncIt. Not free, but it does the job between Google and Outlook. A lot of option to customize the sync, including several calendars.
Not sure what method it uses to sync, so maybe not working for you. But I know my company IT is as well in "stone age" and blocks nearly everything. But gSyncIt works.

Default contacts apk.

Hi All,
Old Winmo User here, glad to be back on XDA-Dev after a stint with a Moto Milestone.
I picked up a Desire yesterday. I love most of the HTC tweaks. I like the black theme and glossy skins more than stock android.
However, I can't seem to sync a Facebook account, only 'Facebook for HTC Sense'.
One of my favourite things on the Milestone was being able to click on someone's photo in any app and have the option to contact them via facebook, twitter , gmail, gtalk etc. This has gone on the Desire. I also liked being able to jump to a contact card straight from the Facebook and Twitter app, but this option has gone now too. The integration, which is the shining point of Android is missing on the Desire.
I think the problem is possibly because the default contacts.apk is missing, and the godawful HTC one is there instead, so Facebook and Twitter don't know what to sync with. Is this right?
I have found the contacts.apk from this thread however I can't install it. Is this because I don't have root access?
If I root my Desire, and install this APK, will my Facebook and Twitter integration return?
Cheers in advance
You should be able to send it with htc sync to your phone. (once connected a third option will appear in the programme)
Just make sure that in settings->applications that unknown sources is checked.

This thread indicates otherwise.
Is there something that HTC Sync does that just running an .apk does not? I've installed several other .apk files without problem.
You should only be able to sync with 'Facebook for HTC Sense' from the sync menu. If you open the facebook app then it will also sync with 'Facebook'. I think so anyway.
This is how I understood it too.
I 'had' a stock Desire yesterday morning and Facebook HTC Sense etc was working swimmingly there, got all updates and contact pics on the 2.1 release (out of box night before), since i rooted and dropped on a different ROM i lost all of that but my memory recalls;
Stock 2.1>Root>setup and the pictures were there fine
then Cooked ROM>setup = Fail
My suggestion is try for a root on stock and if it works all ok your golden! i think my issue is the ROMs i use dont support Facebook Sync,,, yet

[Q] How to sync Windows Live calendar and contacts with EVO ?

Gosh, I'm looking for several hours and probably I'm just blind now. Search in xda shows very old post which are not of any help.
I really would like to know how to sync Windows Live calendar and contacts with EVO?
Please do not suggest gmail or one time one way .csv export.
I guess calendar is the biggest issue.
HTC sync can do some USBsync with outlook, but I do not have nor use outlook.
Big Thanks
edit 8/10
wow. I really thought that there is some solution.
Is Everybody using just outlook instead?
I do like LIVE so much better and it has 25GB free storage and so on.
there are some ideas to use gmail , but I do not see how that would actually work.

Need advice, first time DHD root

Hey guys,
I'm planning to root my DHD for the first time, and I'm quite scared I'm going to lose all my contacts. I have over 200 contacts on my phone but in my Gmail contacts there are only 48.
I'm planning to install the Andriod Revolution HD 6.1.2 Rom. Will I be able to restore my contacts using HTC Sync software after I've rooted my phone?
Thanks in advance

-sorry mate, wish I could help u, but I'm in the same boat. new to android, need to read up on how to flash myself+ good roms. thanks for opening the thread.
sync contacts to your google account and then sync them back after flashing?
when i rooted my phone i went through the downgrade method and didn't realise it would wipe the phone, but i luckily had my contacts saved as a .csv file which i uploaded to my google account, then told the new rom to sync with google. there were a few duplicates doing it that way but it was easy to sort through.
i would recommend finding the option on the phone to sync contacts with google and let HTC sort out the duplicates for you, then root and flash away
There is one software call go contact in market ,so u can backup of ur number.or u can go to account and sync ur contact.

Is there a reason why you can't just sync them with Gmail?
Haven't used ARHD so couldn't tell you if it will work with HTC Sync. I know that RCMix Runny, which is a also a Sense based ROM doesn't work with HTC Sync on my DHD but that could be just me!
If syncing with Google is not an option, there should be an option in People to export your contacts to the SD card. You can then flash ARHD and import your contacts again afterwards.
There are also a number of Contact Backup apps in the Market. I've never used them so I couldn't recommend any particular one.
ARHD will work with HTC Sync, just make sure all your contacts are synced to your computer before you install the rom.
Thanks guys for all the suggestions. @Lewelynn nice to see a fellow Joberger as senior member on XDA.
I Think I'm gonna try and sync all my contacts again with Gmail account, is there a manual way to sync contacts. Ill also try sync with HTC Sync just to make double sure.

I meant a way in which i can manually go and synchronize my contacts with my Google account, figured it out though.
Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Google -> Sync Contacts
For peace of mind you can backup your contacts with a few free programs from the market too. Read the user reviews first though because I just noticed a couple of complaints with one of them.
It's worth paying for a well known one with a decent reputation.
I'm kinda intrigued by these kind of posts.
I thought one of the main selling points of Android was the Google integration.
Surely if you have used your DHD before you have connected it to your Google account, as such your phone should have synched your contacts etc...

Hotmail on the Wildfire S (the deleting problem!)

Morning all...
So then, I'm still playing with my phones setup having had it for a month....
My main gripe is the lack of internal memory but thats another issue!
So then, I use Windows Live for all my personal stuff (contacts, calendar, and email) and want it to remain that way. I have tried using the official hotmail app however when I used that it used too much internal memory and the phone as a whole suffered.... So I would rather use the integrated android email solution. This works fine for everything when set up as an activesync account bar one thing. When you delete an email it will reappear on the next sync.
I currently get around this buy moving messages I want deleted to the trash box manually (Menu -> move -> Trash). Has anyone found a solution/fix to get the delete button working when syncing with hotmail!?!?
I'm used to Windows Mobile 6.5 so my thinking is that it shouldn't be too hard an issue to resolve... but I have no experience with Android yet! Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks all
Use standard mail app. See the thread of miui it includes link from me. Works great, Hotmail with puch and contact and calendar sync.

Should have mentioned... I am S-ON with the original o2 ROM....
So despite this....
If I download and use that mail.apk
it will overwrite the mail.apk installed on the device and resolve the deleting problem!
yes?
No it's just another app. I'm s-on too. Only allow to install non market apps

ok... but the app allows full integration with the htc sense functions?
Does it have a widget to display emails etc?
Does Contact linking work like normal ?
sorry for all the qs!
Works all but no sense widget. It's mail app from cm7
