[ROM] [GSM] Roto JMI Pre-Rooted Firmware v2 [Feb 4, 2011] - Galaxy Tab Android Development

gonna try this out..thanks.
Sent from my samsung tab

Sweet. Going to try this in a bit. I didn't get a chance to perform the upgrade on JMG to see if that would solve the Wi-Fi issues. Hope JMI does!

just did a clean flash and will see how it runs! JME v4 was rocking for me prior to this.

So far so good. Maybe I'm mistaken, but damn this firmware is fast! Really fast!

I had the wifi issue since I got the tab even with the stock fware... I hope it gets solved soon. It prevents some apps to do nighttime leeching of podcasts and such... Once it did it over 3g and almost ate all of my data plan. With JMG the problem seems bit worse, it happens more often... Will try JMI tomorrow, man gotta sleep when man gotta sleep
P.S. The battery life with JMG seems significantly improved over JME

voicemail notification
Just flashed the rom and yeah i feel the speed, but how to remove the voicemail notification..

second that voicemail icon, see it and cant get rid of it
also is the market app an older version? looks not soo cool when compared to JMG...
flashed it again and still have the same problem, guess have to wait for a upgrade or something....

wipe everything & made a full flash, modem switcher works as usual, seems this rom really runs faster... so far so good. thanks again, Roto!!

Voicemail icon is not a big deal, im wondering where it come from and no option to get rid of it,,Yeah made a clean and full flash.

Flashed back from MoDaCo+ext to Roto-JMI-Full-v1 with no problems (flashed Roto-JMI-Full-v1.tar + P1_add_hidden.pit + Bell I9000UGJK4 radio with Odin1.7).
Rom seems very snappy so far.
Haptic buttons auto-dim and screen times out as normal.

Just flashed this firmware and indeed it's fast. however is it normal no PDA and CSC when u pressed? *#1234#?
Thanks Roto!

Yup, that's normal. It doesn't actually do any harm, so just forget about it

This is a great firmware, and yes, it's pretty damn fast. But all the firmwares seem fast once they're freshly installed... so I'll wait a couple of days and then see. That's the true test!
Anyway, I have a question for all you Tab'ers out there;
Have you noticed that while you're watching a video, the button backlights NEVER turn off?
If this is true and the bug belongs to the firmware (and not the fool using it) then is there some way to correct it? It's quite distracting when I'm watching a fine comedy in bed, trying to fall asleep, with these bright, white icons burning my eyeballs out
Thanks to Roto, by the way, for this REALLY fast package. My hero.

How do you check asian tab, euro tab? I have australian tab, how do I cheeck my tab belong to??

Sorry I'm noob Whare Pit file??

Thank you!
Thanks for sharing Chainfire....
Appreciated
CF,
This zip/tar does not have dbdata in it and it wont load...had to load dbdata and works good now.
Maybe Roto can make a nice rooted version for us...or you can do a CWM/rooted version of this...seems to run nice and smooth.
Are there any constraints regarding flashing? Should I use Repart and the integrates PIT? Missing dbdata lets me assume not to use repart.

If you're coming from an earlier JM* build then you shouldn't need to repartition as the partitions will already be correct.
Screen time out on this build is messed again...they fixed it in the last build and broke it on this one again! Baaahh!

I don't do cheffing anymore since years now ... dbdata isn't included in a lot of ROMs ("upgrade" ROMs).
I post them as I get them - this has been one rare case where I removed the bootloaders, but normally I do not do any modifications. Wait for someone like rotohammer to make it into something easy.

Thanks very much Chainfire. The CSC is a multi version for Europe and contains CPW, DBT, ITV, KOR, XEF, XEO, XEU. Does anyone know if the hidden.rfs can be flashed with Heimdal or do we need to use Odin to be able to include hidden.rfs?
Hello roto,
what about including ext4 conversion? I've readen so much in other threads, but i would like to have your opinion about as this is a major change and you were also right about the bootloaders. Pros/cons, and if yes how to work it out with your mod firmware.
Have a nice flight!

Yeah, I think its time to go ext4, and along with that the tools to flash upgrades from your /sdcard, its time to ditch the pc.
The GPS performance is amazing in this release. Just the display timeout does not work right away after a reboot.
Arabic Support
I wish this upgrade will have Arabic support. Its so annoying that this awesome device can't connect arabic letters I am not going to upgrade till rotohammer does his magic and gives his stamp of approval
Navigation with "Checking navigation availability" [SOLVED]
Successful flash with a struggle of dbdata.rfs.
Everything is on the test, but up to now, the app Navigation is running with "Checking navigation availability" and nothing else.
Does it happened to You?
KC
PS.
GPS' working properly, Place & Map are OK
SOLVED
Un-install the MAP, then start Navigation. The map would be installed by Navigation by itself.
I miss the ebook reader app in this rom.
Ebook is inside hidden.rfs
This rom seems to have the fixed gps, too.
WOOOOOT!!!
This ROM deffo needs dbdata.rfs included. I've just re-Tar's Chainfire's package to include the dbdata.rfs from JMA. As soon as the upload is finnished I'll post a link. I've flashed it to my Tab and it's flashed fine, it just gives a few FCs on apps after update which is to be expected.

[ROM] Roto JMG Pre-Rooted Firmware v1 [Deprecated]

This has a bad wifi bug, lets drop it and shuffle on to JMI!
Finally, Roto-JMG!. My development/jtag Tab was stuck in my luggage in Frankfurt due to all the flight cancellations, but Lufthansa delivered it to me at my home at 2am I was actually pleased to be woke up from a sound sleep, thanks!
I've created this for folks who want a safe and easy to install firmware.
This firmware is for any NA, Euro or Asian GSM Tab. They don't contain and won't install protected bootloaders.
All the files are here:

If you already flashed Roto-JME (upgrade or full), just re-flash with the Roto-JMG-Upgrade-v1.tar to get the new apps and not loose any settings.
(other than the home screen, but you can restore that from Titanium Backup right?)
The best option is to backup all your data/apps, flash Roto-JMG-Full-v1.tar with the PDA button and partition with P1_add_hidden.pit. Flash the any modem of your choice with the Phone button as well as its going to be erased due to partitioning. Thats a nice clean setup, guaranteed to work the best
Use the upgrade if you already have a lot of apps installed and you feel lucky. Don't use the pit file with the upgrade firmware. Worst case is you flash the whole enchilada later. Backup your data anyways before hand.
Flash using Odin, using PDA button for any file you flash. If you need/want to flash the addons too, use the PHONE and CSC buttons, they all do the same thing.

In V4 I was a little bit dissapointed not having my german Swype......

I haven't tried any ext4 firmwares yet, so I don't actually know. I'd assume you'd have to flash Roto-JMG-Full with the .pit file. I'm sure someone will chime in soon with the answer.

In general I'm disappointed with Swype being so tied to the firmware. Roto-JMG has the stock Swype which includes German. I really want to remove it altogether to reclaim 11mb of valuable space, but we'll see.
OKAY, so i flash your FW now
In V4 I tried to remove the original Swype in order to install my Swype Version, but it failed by uninstalling it "This Software cant be removed"
Maybe you manage this removing of Swype, so users like me can install this later.....
Do we know of any differences between JMG vs KM2?
Was loving and living on JMEv4, downloading now, thank you for your work sir.
you have made my tab alot more fun to use.
I saw and used an app i believe is free, backup APN, maybe include in the release, make it easy for the noobz....
alot easier then writing down all the info.
and or, some way of using the APN file from CM which im sure is open source and includes like 600 APNs...
just thinking outloud.
It is greatly appreciated.

Killster
Thanks for your work Rotohammer, works smooth!
I cannot seem to find a Chinese locale, is it availeable in this rom or should I look into other roms for this language? Thanks again!

I've flashed back to jme full+pit+cfroot with odin1.7 from modaco+ext with no problems, once you've flashed cfroot you can then boot into recovery and directly flash modaco+ext.
Noticeably faster than jmev4 at least as far as I can tell. So far the only thing I am missing is full screen swype.

Great job Roto. Tnx. I was thinking about the next version if it would be possible to include Shutdown.apk from ♫ Overcome v1.0.2 ♫ JMG Base ♫. That one has few more options like: reboot/recovery/download. I think they could be quite useful at least for me.

[MOD] Wifi fix for XXJVS

As i am sure some guys will figure out why XXJVS (2.3.5) breaks wifi in some cases.
In mine it did not actually, but the fixes for the phone.apk floating around here gave me the idea to wrap up a CWM package with the Wifi files from XXJVR.
For the people that did have issues with Wifi it seems to stay stable now.
So if you are on XXJVS (Odexed or Deodexed) try to flash the package and see if it helps you. I also included a restore CWM file to go back "fully stock" in case it breaks Wifi.
Test the wifi with WifiFix.zip
Restore with WifiFixJVS.zip
Just let me know if it worked or not.
Doesn´t work for me. My SGS still loosing WIFI for just a few seconds.
Same here...
Do you guys also use the JVS modem ?
And what type of encryption do you use ?
Yes I´m on JVS modem. I use WPA2-PSK encryption.
The strange thing is that my encryption is also wpa/wpa2 psk @ 54 mbit
But i did encounter in the past some connection issues with a older wifi-router.
This router had wifi-n draft support.
The moment i replaced it with a Cisco E2000 router no problems anymore. But like i said i did not have any issues with JVS to begin with. But when i released my Tornado ROM i heard of some wifi issues that were fixed with this fix.
STILL THE SAME PROB
Thanx for effort bro but no luck
okay by the way y Tornado is of only 93 MB how come ? so less
as stock comes around 200+ MB ?

We like to strip the ROM to the barebone.
And if you want stock apps back then just use the addon app to install them back or even remove them again
The ROM has (on JVR) proven to be stable and quick. Our Tornado-users seem to be liking this concept.

Wifi Fix
Hello all
I am posting here my wifi fix!
What is diffrent from brotuck?
Well JVS = android 2.3.5
Stock android 2.3.5 (what i am running now) is using
bcm4330_aps.bin
bcm4330_mfg.bin
bcm4330_sta.bin
JVS uses
bcm4329_aps.bin
bcm4329_mfg.bin
bcm4329_sta.bin
When I use my clear mind it uses outdated wifi files so I pulled the AOSP ones renamed theme to 4329 and packed it with brotuck's fix
Maybe it works I am not sure!

[Q] Rcmix sense 3.5 kernel and radio?

Since I can't post in the developer section yet i'm asking here, hope it's ok. Been looking at the ROM for a few mins and it looks great, but i've been using MIUI for so long my flashing skills are kind of rusty.
First of all, the kernel is included in the ROM and is the one the developer recommends or have developed right?
And secondly, wich radio is recommended for the ROM? Could'nt find any answer to that in the first post dedicated to the ROM. Should i flash radio before or after i flash the ROM?
Again hope you don't mind me posting this stupid question here and thank you in advance for your answers.
Oh and btw does HTC Watch work with these ROMs? Living in Sweden if it matters.

you are welcome just remember while using titanium backup DO NOT restore system apps and ONLY restore user apps without data.. even better if you have not started already just make a folder in the root of your sdcard\RCTeam\app.user and copy all your user apps from data\app folder to sdcard\RCTeam\app.user and let the rom install your apps automatically.
Restoring data was the reason i bought titanium backup
I'll just restore the apps i had then with market links. The ROM is really fast btw, the eyecandy isn't too bad either.

Actually it seems that the script killersloth linked is the problem as the phone froze again before i even entered my SIM Pin, I'll just flash the restore thing before it freezes the next time.
And Wavesecure is actually really good, I can lock and locate and wipe the phone with simple text messages, though I never use any kind of AV apps.

I would just go with a standard Rom flash set it up as my liking then do a nand backup only then I will start playing with oc\uv and fine tuning the rom to my liking... it has saved me a lot of problems faced by many users. just my way of doing things. after every success mod I do a nand backup incase my next mod messes up something I have a backup to come back to saves a lot of time and hassle. IMHO I can't say any thing about killersloth's script coz I have not used it.
NAND backups takes ages xD
However the phone is working as it should now, all thats left is a nice theme, anyone?
I won't be playing around with voltages and speeds on the CPU, default is just fine.

Nope getting it aswell, I'll try the one you are using.
I can't log in to Facebook using friend stream when I want to put on my lockscreen, just says wrong username or password although I know it's not.
Can I use any of the ROMs listed in the OUT kitchen or do I have to upload my own files as the ones for this specific ROM aren't available.

your best bet is to upload the files from your phone or the downloaded rom, in the uot kitchen.. the fc problem in the glass theme is a known issue you overcome it by disabling the sound effects in the weather app
OK, thanks for the fc fix.
Only thing bothering me with the theme is the transparency in the status bar, replacing it and the battery, + a new font. Then I'm happy until I find something fancier

I did the same and it flashed just fine. Setting it up now. One thing I did notice is that all of my Play Store purchases error out when trying to automatically restore. I seem to have a good data connection. Anyone else seeing the same?

clear the data and cache of market/play store.
I downloaded titanium backup and attempted to restore apps but it says I have no root access, anyone have the same problem? Maybe I got a bad download.

possibly delete su out of /system/bin and reboot.
Couldn't delete it because it can't get root access, I'm not knowledgeable with adb so I can't go that route I even tried flashing a superuser.zip just to try it out but no success.

re-uploading - should be ready 1 hour tops.
Nice, I should still be up hopefully lol. And this re-upload should fix the root access issue?
I am awake already. I will check out the next build...

Downloading the newest build now, hope the SU and carrier label bugs have been worked out, because besides those issues the first build of PixelRom 1.6 4G has been solid and snappy.
UPDATE: Yup, marketplace downloads keep returning the same error, even after clearing the data and all. (Error 921) and the default colors return a bright flashing green when turning the screen on or off (without adjusting gamma values)
You seem to have a lot of fans over in the ns forums. I'm excited.

Runs great. I did not have any issues with anything. This is very vanilla and will not be for everyone but if you are looking for a pure ICS without the bells and whistles and runs strong, this is your rom.
Edit - my dumb self should have read the thread title. It's 4.0.4! Now I have to run this. If any of you have not had the chance to run 4.0.4, grab this. Not often we get to play with these builds and you will see a difference.
Edit Again - I would advise a quick reboot after you set everything up. Just seemed to help everything settle in. BTW - like other 4.0.4 roms, which there haven't been many, you will no longer see that high Android OS usage with this rom. I know, by now we all know that the usage probably was not recorded/shown correctly but this is now shown accurately on this rom.
