[Q] Limited Service at different sim than T-Mobile (IS my phone locked?) - Desire General

Hi,
I have bought HTC Desire (New) from eBay and seller said that he got it from T-Mobile and he don't know if it is unlocked or not. The thing is that from all topics I went throught it always says that if my phone is locked and I put different sim there then I will be prompted at boot to put code. I have tried with different sims (Vodafone, o2) but I have no such code input. Now I am using T-Mobile some cheap card and everything works but when using another card it gives me LIMITED Service Warning and no signal. It cannot register to any network as well. Any ideas if I should go and try to unlock it via some codes or it is unlocked already but I have to rebrand it?
Thank You,
Golotap

I was at Police/Vodafone/T-Mobile/T-Mobile/Another T-Mobile and everyone says this phone has been blacklisted in UK this is why it has such problem ._. so now I am just sending it back to Ebay seller.
Thank You,
Golotap

The amount of people buying from eBay and having problems is unreal. Go buy it from a retailer sicne your guaranteed it actually works.

The problem is money, normal phones are just too expensive for me so many people are just going to eBay.

FYI: Telus Touch Pro 2 sim unlocked!

Hi y'all - just want to let Telus customers know that I have successfully unlocked my TP2 for 3rd party sims. In case it was one of those "should be possible, but I'd like to wait to buy until I know..." questions for some of you.
You may have seen the youtube vid, but I can confirm its true.
Also - Telus would NOT give out the sim unlock code for free. They got all squirrelly and weird and said they DO NOT support this, and they dont even have the unlock code even if they wanted to give it. They also said that they're locked at the factory which I argued is completely false as before you activate the phone, it says "SIM unlocked", and locks immediately afterwards.
Strangely, the first guy I spoke to was understanding, pleasant and said that I had to contact HTC, that they didn't actually have the code but I could definitely get it from HTC, and that he used to work for HTC in Canada before the dollar rose and they had to move elsewhere. Called HTC and they were confused and said "no, you have to get it from your telco, or a 3rd party".
That's what I thought. Canadian cell companies are waaaay to tight-fisted to give an inch on their overpriced bs.
$35 with popular canadian cell unlocking site - took 2.5 days.
So what did you have to do exactly? I'd love to have the Telus version, but being in Mex I was dubious about the simlock. And you can do it all online, right?
yes what did you do, or give us a link, plz, People gonna be need this as I am.
wouldnt a custom ROM accomplish the same thing?
Perhaps if you bought it without activating it, you could put on a custom ROM and then keep the SIM unlocked. I think, however, that they will be unlikely to be inclined to sell the TP2 without attaching it to Telus first. Once its locked by Telus, I think its locked in a part of memory that flashing won't overwrite. I could be very wrong - someone please enlighten if they know better... When you bought your Fuze and then flashed a cust rom, did it unlock the phone?? I've always been a CDMA customer in NA, with the occasional GSM blackberry overseas - but I bought them unlocked too.
www.mobileincanada.com is where I got my code. They told me that the Touch Pro 2 takes much more time to create code than other phones, hence the almost 3 day wait.
Tested: prior to unlocking a soft reset after sim install would elicit "SIM detected, not a Telus SIM - phone switching to CDMA only" or something like that.
Afterwards, SIM detected, switching to Global. I double checked that it could read my Optus SIM and get phone numbers off of it. It didn't complain at all and even tried to connect to Rogers - couldn't, of course, with a deactivated Optus SIM...
Update
Found an unused Rogers SIM kicking around... Will detect the network manually, but will not register on it. HTC did say that they locked out the NA GSM service providers as a service to the NA CDMA companies. Perhaps a flashed ROM would fix this... obviously the radio bands are compatible or it wouldnt detect it at all, no?
Huh, if it's not working then it really isn't unlocked...
Wonder if a Mexican sim would work (technically it's part of North America though culturally and economically speaking it isn't).
I don't understand why they'd lock out all North American gsm providers. Wouldn't the gsm providers of the same country be enough? After all, who'd want to be roaming all the time in Canada with a US provider's sim, it'd be much more expensive than any local plan.
Well, the SIM I tried has never been activated. It doesn't even work in my ROgers BB, it turns out. So I need to try an activated one.
Anyway, I do remember reading that HTC's compromise to the NA CDMA carriers was that they would disable using NA GSM companies in order that you would have to use your provider's CDMA roaming services throughout NA, even on an unlocked phone. Will do my best to test.
My main concern was getting it to worked on a 3rd party sim in Oz and Europe.
It is definitely "unlocked" however. The Settings/Security screen says "This phone is SIM unlocked", and now it will read any sim card I install. Before unlocking it wouldnt let you go near a non-telus SIM.
I ordered my unlock code through the same site, too. But they refund my money the next day saying my IMEI isn't in their database, thus unable to provide an unlock code for my phone.
this is one of those "are you sure its plugged in" questions so I apologise, but did you make triple sure you gave them the right IMEI code? Sometimes there are more than 15 digits, although I've been told its only the first 15 that matter...
Ok. I'd love to have the Telus version, what with the added bands, the cdma mode, the 3.5mm jack, and case very faithful to the original, and even the nostalgia factor (I remember when Telus was only for home phones) But I am not going to risk looking for an importer, buying it and all that if there's a chance that I would be unable to get the unlock codes. That'd be TRULY frustrating and a waste of money.
well, there are more than 15 digits on the back of the phone behind the battery, while there are 17 digits in Device Information. And since they only asks for first 15 digits, I just gave them that. Asked them to double check, still came back with IMEI not found. I'm pretty frustrated now...because I paid the the full price for the phone as I'm not qualified for upgrade yet as I got the Diamond for free last Sept. And since I got it from Telus store and there's no return, I feel pretty much got rip-off as I was in hope of using it in HK, where I travel to every year.

I believe that these units are SIM-Unlocked for INTERNATIONAL use, like in HK -- so you shouldn't have a problem (according to what's been posted here).

I purchased an unlock code from the site recommended by chopsxxx, but got a refund after 24 hours, saying they could not generate, after googling for sometime, purchase and unlock code from imeiunlock.info did receive the code its 8 digits in length. I try to enter the code after pressing ##778# but its only giving an option to key in 6 digits, can anyone help me with this?

[Q] purchased "unlocked" GSM gnex from ebay, yet locked. need help (t-mobile)

[Q] purchased "unlocked" GSM gnex from ebay, yet locked. need help (t-mobile)
So I purchased this auction http://goo.gl/eErsT (ebay link) for a unlocked GSM gnex. Shipped from Hong Kong and came to me with factory seal intact.
I popped my T-Mobile USA sim card in and the phone worked until I restarted it, at which time it started asking for "SIM network unlock pin". I'ved talked to 3 people at T-Mobile, Samsung USA, Samsung CA, etc, no one can really help me figure out how to unlock the phone, or even tell me who the phone is locked to. I tried ordering from one of those sites that sell unlock codes, but honestly I do not know who the phone would be locked to so I'm not really confident in that.
I guess the first thing I need to find out is to figure out who the phone would be locked to. Any ideas?
(I rooted, unlocked bootloader, installed cyanogenmod 9 nightly to see if that let me around it, no luck).
Did you... contact the seller? They falsely advertised that the phone was fully unlocked. They should be sending you a new one IMO. The least they can do is hopefully tell you what network its locked to.
Contacted today, but eBay merchant based in Hong Kong so not sure when ill hear back or if they'll be any help. They do sell a ton of unlocked phones and have really good feedback so I kind of want to assume the phone truly isn't locked to another carrier.
Anyone else have an issue like this? Is there any way to get this code(or get around needinf it)without knowing who, if anyone, it is locked to?
Why wouldnt you just buy from negri or expansys if you went for a sealed box nexus anyway?
As far as i know all nexus are unlocked.

Some models (specifically the Japanese DoCoMo version) are actually locked.
Seem to have gotten it unlocked with a $25 code from http://www.cellunlocker.net/. Said he used the "manufacturer method" which was carrier independent. (funny because Samsung refused to acknowledge that they had the capability).
As to why I didn't buy it from one of the other retailers negri/expansys, this was 50-70 cheaper, came with 2day air shipping from hong kong and accessories, and he had a lot of good feedback with a ton of similar transactions... Not totally sure if the phone was even locked or if something weird happened.
Anyway, thanks for the responses.

[Q] carrier unlock "issue"

Okay I'll try to keep this as short and sweet as possible. I purchased an at&t xperia play, and then purchased an unlock code from eBay and popped my tmobile sim card in, entered the code, and it came up with a message similar to "network unlock successful". I got tired of the phone so I threw it back on eBay. The lady that purchased the phone is now claiming I sold her a phone that was locked to at&t, and wanting a full refund. She's saying when she boots it up it says "out of area" with her sim card. Am I wrong to assume that if the phone "wasn't unlocked" it would ask for a network unlock code when she booted it up with her sim just like it did when I inserted my tmobile sim? I naturally expected the unlock code I purchased to work like every other code I've purchased, and permanently unlock the device? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

That sounds true to me. Honestly there are some very ignorant people purchasing items on ebay. just a few days ago i got a message for a wii game that I sold, she claimed it didnt work and wanted a refund. The next day the told me that that AV CORDS WEREN'T PLUGED IN!!! You never know the lady could have the sim installed upside down.

[Q] T-Mobile UK unlock code for HTC One X?

Hi people.
Just bought myself a HTC One X locked onto T-Mobile network.
I want to use it on Orange UK.
Anyone know if the SIM unlock codes are available?
Every site I go to advise me that the codes aren't available yet.
Is there another way of being able to use my orange SIM with the HTC One X?
Thanks
There are people selling the codes on Ebay, and there is a Tread (closed though) of people who have successfully used these services: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613613&highlight=unlock+code
Check ebay though as they are some for as cheap as £4.
Nice one gaiden, I'll give it a go.
Thanks for help.
A novice like me needs all that I can get!!
Aaaah, just realised why I'm struggling. Apparently the phone has to be at least one month old for IMEI to be registered on server. That means the waiting game......
Cant you just phone tMobile and ask them for a subsidy pin ?
ermmm tmobile and orange are the same company.... is the card being rejected out right?, i can switch between orange and tmobile with no problems with my tmobile card, and my wife has a locked wildfire s to tmobile that happily runs a orange card.
Yeah tmo and orange are now the same network. You shouldnt need to unlock for this.

That is the exact reason why I bought the phone, thinking Orange & T-Mobile have merged into one.
The thing is they share their network coverage but they are still two seperate companies. This was confirmed by Orange UK. And T-Mobile won't deal with me because I don't have an account with them.
So I need to find someone who does have one, or set one up (which I don't want to do).
All the official HTC Unlock sites don't seem to have code available and give me a refund straight away. I'm going to try a couple from EBay this morning to see if they're any better.

T-Mobile will only unlock a handset that is registered to the account. I.e purchased with the number at the same time, as imei's are linked.

What method did you try ?
the ebay unlocking method worked fine for my t-mobile phone,
Unlock codes!?
Am I missing something,
If you flash an RUU rom surely that will unlock it?
I presume using Ebay Unlocking techniques also risk voiding warrenty?

Flashing a custom ROM does NOT SIM unlock the phone. Unlike unlocking/rooting, SIM unlocking does not void your warranty.
I've used HTC SIM Unlock before and they always been to work. They have a money back guarantee as well. Never trust those unlockers on eBay. I've been scammed too many times. http://www.htcsimunlock.com/#oid=1096_1
Your other option could be to get a PAYG sim card and call them from that. They might unlock it for you as you would have an account with them then?
I never thought of that, ie, getting a PAYG SIM card. Should have done that! Anyways, after many unsuccessful attempts in getting the phone unlocked (the number of refunds I got on my Paypal, I had numerous security checks on my card!), I eventually got hold of the person I bought the phone off. He's kindly got in touch with T-Mobile UK, and for £15-32, they'll unlock it for me. It will take between 10-28 days, so I'm expecting it to come through some time this week at the earliest. I know it may be dear, but I also know they will be able to unlock it, as its their network.
Anyways, thanks for all the help guys!
I just unlocked my one x at unlockcode4u.com and as I made a video they just refunded me, so eventually I didnt pay anything.

Sim unlock method for M5?

Hi, I've just got my M5 and it's locked to Voda UK - is there a way to sim unlock it quickly, or do you need to get one of the online unlocks that takes 5 days or so? Had an S3 about 4 years ago and that could be unlocked when tethered to a PC... thanks for your help
Same phone acquired same way
You might have noted when you got the phone it was "primed" lock lock to whichever network you first tried.
If you put a Vodafone SIM in then locked to that network, probably with 5 tries to unlock.
Ebay has a seller charging £12. (+ £0 for online SIM or £2 for SIM from a Voda store)
Vodafone charge £20.
So I am going the Voda route, for the warranty. As I bought from them the Sales of Goods Act put the onus on them and I don't want them to complaint that the phone was unlocked.
Rather than buying a BigBundle SIM, I got a data freebie, so the data is IN ADDITION to the Top-up and thus the top-up can be used to pay for the unlock - after 30 days...
So quicker and cheaper via eBay (though some M5 users report these sellers cannot always find the code [most will give a refund]) but legit via Vodafone not much more time or cost.
