Sandisk MicroSDHC 16gb Class 4 or 6 Recommendations? - EVO 4G Accessories

I have the stock MicroSDHC card in my Evo at the moment.
I am looking to purchase a Sandisk microSDHC 16gb class 4 or 6 card.
Class 4 would most likely be fast enough for me.
I have been searching around but have heard alot about counterfeits, etc.
Looking to purchase in a blister card as this appears to be the best way to be assured you are purchasing a legit card.
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Kingston is an option as I have also read good things about it.
Again, Legitimacy is a top priority.

This is just my opinion but I only use a-data micro sdcards. The 2 class six cards I got for me and the wife have served me with apps2sd and since before I even had my g1. They are very reasonably priced on newegg.
I just find sandisk cards to be over priced imo. But to be sure you only get quality cards I would buy from either tigerdirect or newegg.

This one is well hidden in the depths of newegg; I bought and sounds like a great deal to me.

I'll research the a-data cards.
Are they better quality than the transcend cards?

I'm using a 32GB Class 10 from Wintec and it works great. Only ~$85 on NewEgg. With their free shipping, I ordered it Friday morning and got it Monday afternoon.

Wintec Class 10 16GB SDHC for around $27 from Tiger Direct... I can't imagine why you'd go 4 or 6...

Heard something about smart phones can't utilize the speeds that class 10 offers, or something to that effect. So it wasnt worth the extra money that a class 10 would cost.
But at the price you mentioned, the cost is a non factor. Just don't know the quality of Wintec vs. the rest.

I've got several WinTec cards - even have WinTec PC10666 (1333) memory in my desktop - always been happy with the quality.
As far as speed - I'm VERY new to the EVO so I can't speak to whether or not the phone can utilize the extra speed.. But as you mentioned - at that price, who cares... And I will say this - putting large amounts of stuff onto this card vs my older class 4's and 6's via computer is *way* faster.

You can utilize the speed by changing one value in your system files

And what would that value be

128 instead of 4, buy the wintec 16gb for 27 dollars, best cost for performance and size. There's a thread in the development section about it

Here's the thread with the SD card speed hack. Link . Worked great for me but I actually changed the script value to 512 to go along with my Lexar 32GB Class 10.

microSDHC Card?

Any recommendations for a microSDHC card? I'd like a 16GB. I've been reading up on Class 2, 4, 6, and 10 cards. The consensus seems to be that Class 2 is adequate for most phone usage, except perhaps for recording 720p video.
Any thoughts on this? Brands? I'd like to grab a SanDisk from Office Depot for about $32.
I got an 8gb class 6 for $20 (search newegg for item N82E16820208453 i cant post urls yet sorry).
I figure I may be able to use it in other gadgets in the future and it was only a few dollars difference from a class 4 or 2.
An 8 GB doesn't seem such a bad idea for a starter. I have an 8 GB iPhone 3G right now, and I'm trading it to my daughter for her iPod Touch 8 GB. I'll use it for podcasts and music I don't listen to much.
I'll probably trade up to a 32 GB when they come down in price, and maybe in the meantime I'll grab another 8 GB as a backup / extra "film roll" for trips.
Class 10 is meant for super fast write speeds needed for higher end video capture and the like. Usually DSLRs and such. You'll see a significant price difference for class 6 and class 10 cards. I doubt the Aria camera and system really needs, or even can take advantage of those speeds. Best bet is any basic card I suspect. I prefer going authentic Sandisk >=8Gb. I've been burned recently by DOA Polaroid labeled cards so I'm going back to Sandisk from here on out myself.
I ordered a Class 6 Transcend 8 GB card off of NewEgg. I wanted a Class 6 16 GB, but one comment in the reviews scared me away from the Transcend 16 GB card:
Pros: Reasonable price, good transfer rates.
Cons: When trying to partition ext2 anywhere besides partition slot 1 it returns:
"ERROR: input/output error during write on /dev/block/mmcblk0"
Makes it so you cannot use apps2sd for Android.

I wasn't sure if this would apply, but I didn't want to risk it. The 8 GB reviews all said it worked fine with Android phones.
The 8GB card was only $20, and I figured that I can probably deal with that until the 32 GB cards come down in price. Also, the 8 GB card was a 5x Customer Choice Award Winner, with 624 reviews. Since my iPhone was 8GB, I'm pretty sure I can live with that for awhile, maybe getting a second one to take on trips.
I personally like A-Data, Transcend, and Kingston. I've had compatibility problems with Sandisk before. I like these brands because they've never given me compatibility problems. I've bought a lot of cards from Transcend, but recently, I'm leaning more towards A-Data because their cards are generally pretty fast, like this one.

I got a 16GB card from Sandisk on Newegg for cheap, slapped it in there and it worked perfect. It is a SDHC card also but so far no issues at all.

I got a 16gb microSD class 2 from frys for $17.99 after mail in rebate sounds like a good deal to me. The brand is polaroid by pny, but who cares about the brand.

I've been using the stock card, but used an A-Data 16gig class 6 to root the phone. I'm planning on buying another one to use in the phone. Class 6 may be a little overkill, but i use it in my helmet cam, and i'd like to keep a spare one around. i doubt i can fill 16 gig on the phone.
Bunnie Huang of xbox hacking and chumby fame has done a forensic analysis of a handful of microSD cards in the pursuit of the best quality to include with the chumby device. He determined, among other things, that:
"Kingston is revealed as simply a vendor that re-marks other people’s chips in its own packaging. Every Kingston card surprisingly had a Sandisk/Toshiba memory chip inside, and the only variance or “value add” that could be found is in the selection of the controller chip."
The article is an amazing read.

You'll fill it up quickly if you load all your music on it. Personally, I'm looking forward to when 32GB MicroSD cards are more widely available and the prices are a bit more reasonable.
I picked up a class 2 16gb Polaroid from fry's and I've had no problems. Usually I would never go for that brand (usually go with Kingston or patriot) but the price was good at 25 bucks. Have had no problems whatsoever with it.

I have a class 2 Sandisk card running A2SD2 and using 720p with no problems or lag on either.
AS far as I know the class 4 by kingston is the highest class 32gb micro that is currently available.
I agree with chaz. I purchased a cheap 32GB from Hong Kong via eBay and it was garbage! As always, caveat emptor.
Just bought 200 of them
Yea the 32gb card for under 40 bucks is a scam no doubt........or a once in a lifetime deal...Verizon has the 32 gb card for 49.99 for 2 hours and they got swamped with orders.
be carefull guys........there are lots of fake sandisk cards going around.. I personally have the 32GB Class 2 from Sandisk that i bought from Verizon and have no issues with it. My buddy bought a 16GB from bestbuy and it was only a 4GB.
Stay away! These cards are usually a much smaller 4 or 8GB card which has 32GB printed on it. The beautiful part is they are designed to appear to your OS as a real 32GB card, so everything will be all rainbows and lollipops at first... That is, until you start filling it and eventually end up going over the actual capacity of the card. What happens after that? Well let's just say it's not pretty.
Your data is not worth the risk.

before anyone jumps to this there are 3C Pro class 4 cards on google, amazon has them for a hair more but less that 100$ and reviews are saying the transfer speeds are close to class 6. with a average of around 5.44.
also there is a brand called, TOPRAM that sells class 4 32gb as well as kingston.
im ordering 2 of the 3c pro's. they seem to have the highest performance ive seen in 32gb storage

I'm running the 32gb Sandisk class 2 purchased from Amazon for $75. Read speeds seem to be several mb/s faster than the stock 8gb card. I think it's a good value at this price.

I've been running this for a month or so, and it's fantastic. It's just what it says -- I ran some speed tests when I first got it, and it came up with something around 4.5 MB/sec write speed (didn't copy it down...should have). So basically it's a class 4 as promised. I picked it up when it first came out at newegg for $87.

Well, crap... My 32GB Wintec is in the mail right now. I hope it lasts longer than yours did.
So far, my Wintec 16GB has been working as advertised. As of right now, I would suggest it to anyone looking to upgrade their SD card.
I had to return 2 Wintec's b/c of poor performance. I Then tested a cheap Kingston and Sandisk (whch were both faster then the Wintec at most file sizes) but not where I wanted it to be. I have a a couple of high end cards for my dSLR but I didn't want to spend that much for my phone. I finally settled on Patriot LX for price performance.
If you have a Micro Center in your area you can pick up a "Micro Center Branded" MicroSD card there for dirt cheap.
I bought 2 8GB class 2 for $13.99 each and a 16GB Class 2 for $27.99
Heres the kicker. The supplier they get them from marks them as class 2 but they are Class 6.
All three cards have a write rate or 6+ MB/sec and a 13 MB/sec read. Tested on a 2 different windows machines and the SD Speed test app from the market.

[Q] Best sd card

I have a scan disk 8gig sd card, the one that came with the phone. I'm looking to upgrade the sd card. I have two questions (I did search on xda sorry if I didn't see this question answered already)
1) What's the highest gig the Evo 4G will support?
2) What type of sd card should I get, like company name and all that?
Thanks.
32gb, san disk class 6
There really isnt a best card, just get the highest class you can afford.
The one piece of advice though, do NOT buy memory cards off ebay. 80% of the cards on there are fakes. Purchase from an authorized retailer, like newegg.

The company that has had the most positive results is SanDisk. Not all packages will say what class the card is so look for a "C" with a number inside of it. 10 is the best right now but SanDisk ones are hard to find. Like a previous poster said, Class 6 is the most popular and fairly nicely priced.

Unfortunately, it's not just eBay. Both CircuitCity (when they were in business) and most recently BestBuy have actually had fake SanDisk cards ON THEIR SHELVES. That's pretty brazen by the forgers.

Because SanDisk seems to be such a big target for forgeries, I switched to Kingston for my memory cards in my phone, tablet, camera, my kids' Nintendo DS, etc. I've been very happy with them.
Just recently I got a 32gb Class 4 Patriot for under $40 (for my Acer A500 tablet) and I'm very happy with its performance. So don't overlook Class 4 if money is a bit tight because it will get you a much bigger card for the money that still does the job well.
I have a 16GB Class 4 Kingston in my HTC Evo 4G and currently have it partitioned for running Synergy RLS1, which is also performing very well.

Is class 10 really necessary? Will you notice the increased speed at all?
I doubt it, normally the sandisk are higher then any other, like the samsung class 10 shows 13meg/sec and the class 6 sandisk lists as 30meg/sec...Sure if you run a special test it might show faster, but for absolutely anything these phones can do, no I will put money nobody would ever notice

Is that 20MB read speed or write speed?
Class 10 is 10MBsec write. Read speeds are generally double of what the write speed.
Have used a variety of "class" uSD cards in various items for a while. For me, the "sweet spot" for read/write speed and data transfer integrity is Class 6. And stay with trusted known brands from reputable sources. For me that's SanDisc IMHO.
Bought a 64GB Class 6 on Amazon for my SGT7.7 for $70....dealer sent a Class 10 claiming a better deal. After I explained why I wanted to RMA for a Class 6.....they swapped me without question.
YMMV

You think class 6 is better than class 10? Why exactly?
