This in my opinion is the best case - http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=46716&cat=5085
combination of hard plastic and softer rubber, while still maintaining the slim profile of the phone. And all the buttons are cut out unlike some of the other cases.

Mesh case. You can search on eBay for Samsung Vibrant mesh case.

Case-Mate Tough Case
I've been very happy with my Case-Mate Tough Case.

As to case, Otterbox all the way. The case looks, feels, fits and protects the phone great. I reccomend it 100%.
For screen protectors, I've been using the ones that came with the Otterbox. However, I hear great things about the ones made by Zagg, Casemate and Real Look.

Case Mate tough case - Soft shell under a hard case. Not too bulky but really makes the plasticy vibrant feel sturdy. People say you don't need a screen protector with the gorilla glass, but I have a zagg screen sheild - very happy with it.

Best I have seen!

I love the body glove case from Tmobile. The ruggedized case makes it feel substantial and the clip, wich is removable, adjusts to any direction and acts as an excellent grip in both portrait and landscape. Also the clip has a kick stand wich works in both portrait and landscape too, making it so you have no need for a docking station at all. The post wich the clip connects to can be replaced with a block out that looks seemless and adds just another nice functionality of case. Clip and kickstand still retain spring after almost 7 months of heavy use. The raised outer bezel is just high enough to protect screen but virtually unnoticable when operating device.
BTW This screen has no need for a screen protector. The protectors are actually more scratch prone than the screen. Theres several videos on you tube attesting to this(it basically took a utility knife brought directly to bear on the screen to even scratch it).

Cyclops. Surprisingly better than the Otter (unless you DON'T want an integrated screen protector).
That decision by OB was fail imo.

otterbox Defender questions

so I just bought the Otterbox Defender for my Atrix 4G, and for some reason, on the top left corner, if I squeeze it, I feel a little give, of maybe like half a millimeter, but IDK if that means its defective or what? Also, whats a good way to clean a screen cloth to get the dust off? I love this thing, and my screen is very clean but there is like one or two small specks of dust I cannot stand looking at.
It will eventually get stretched out more and more as you use it. That's one of the biggest flaws of the Otterbox Defender.
My wife has had it for about a month and she's completely given up on it, as it's almost impossible (for her) to use the fingerprint scanner, and because of how she used to tug on the silicon protecting the charging port, the bottom is all stretched out too. YMMV.
Hope this helps...

@ _Alex_ : The second link I posted for the Seidio Active case would suit your wife very well. That case does not hinder the fingerprint scanner at all, and its still offers a reasonably good amount of protection. Its also available with a holster. (I do not have the holster so I can't comment on it) I do love the case though. I've dropped my Atrix twice from about 4ft up (im a big guy, 6'4" tall) onto concrete, once landing on its side, the second face down. No damage to my Atrix at all, barely scratched the silicone skin of the case (its a two piece case, silicone case with a skeletal snap-on piece for extra strength and corner protection).
Honestly I have the defender and love it I use the clip everyday and it has a bit of play like yours but I haven't had any streaching and I've had it for a little over a month. I sometimes gwt trouble with the fingerprint reader but if you dont use it than that dosnt matter but I am defanitly trying out that upcoming ballistics case

I have the defender too. I have the same little problem in the top left corner too! The rubber part hasn't stretched for me, however.
I use the fingerprint scanner, but I don't notice any problems at all when using it.
does anyone know if its easy to cut out their screen protector? Its just that when I use it, I feel like I'm using the Blackberry Storm, like I slightly push more than normal, and it takes away accuracy when typing. Should I keep the Defender or just get the candyshell Speck and a separate screen protector?
I'm on my second silicone part. I emailed them about the port cover corner getting stretched out and they sent me a new one. The new one looks just like the old one already. Took maybe two weeks for it to start popping out again.

I called them about my silicone case stretching and they sent me a new one as well.. still haven't put the new one on yet. Wife called about the "watermark" she is getting on her screen, and found out it is because they put the screen protector on backwards(her screen protector feels more rough than mine).. so they are sending her two stick on screen protectors. May have to try and just pop out her screen protector and flip it over?

She has my Otterbox Commuter now which is similar to the Seidio Active case. I've switched over to nothing while I debate using a TPU or a Incipio Feather, as I have a lapdock now and the Commuter is just too big to fit...
I read somewhere you can remove a plate or something on the laptop dock to make extra room. I might have been seeing things though

Ugh my defenders head phone door came off the phone recently just a confirmation of this problem sadly i would have thought it would have happened to the usb flap first being that i dont use headphones that often. I dont know if i should try to get them to send be a new silicon part out now that I got a body glove case today Seems to be a good alternative to this the grip on the case is nice and theres an option to have aclip on the back for a belt clip that comes with it Witch would be good if you used the Defender holster but you can replace the clip with circle shaped peace that finishes the case only thing that might be bad is there is no protection for the ports. I will say that it being all in one layer unlike the plastic and silicon on the defender means that there is no creekiness that i some time felt on my defender. it setill clips together on the front and back similar to the defender plastic layer though without a built in screen protector.

Defender VS commuter

Hi,
Does anybody knows what is the bulk/size difference between the 2 cases?
same with trident aegis.
I bought my bro the commuter, but the store didnt have the defender to feel.
I think that the commuter is slick and nice, and hope the the defender is doing so as well.
Thanks!

I have the defender case and I love it. It does add bulk to the phone. It actually makes the phone look huge, but I love it. It feels save and secure. I feel like if I were to drop my phone 5 feet down onto concrete, my phone would be fine. If you like the slick feel of the commuter, then I suggest you stay with that case. :good:
I have the commuter and I have to say that I love it and after dropping my phone from shoulder height which is prob around 5 ft high I can honestly say that this case does a great job protecting the phone.
A second thought is that there are cases like the commuter series that have a stand clip. Which is great if your going to use your phone as a media device. my sister just got the casemate pop which looks awesome.

I use a generic very bulky case right now.
I dont care about thickness, and i ment slickness - i like the feel of the material in the commuter.
anyway, what is the size difference between them?
The size difference is not much. I have both cases. I am no longer using the Commuter case because the back is hard plastic and very slippery. The button plastic is very hard. I use the Defender case now because the silicone cover give me a better gripe and buttons are easy to press.

what is you opinion regarding the plastic screen protector compared to a sticker?
It's not bad, it will probably protect it better but isn't optically as good as a high end shield.

such as?
zagg shields are the typical goto screen protector.... There are cheaper ones, but you typically get what you pay for.
Commuter: 5.61 in x 3.10 in x 0.56 in / 142.5 mm x 78.84 mm x 14.28 mm
Defender: 5.88 in x 3.47 in x 1.41 in / 148.84 mm x 88.14 mm x 35.81 mm
Hey badtobone. I'll give you my experiences with the cases i've bought and the zagg shield cover i purchased. At first i had a tpu case with the zagg shield and the corners started coming up where the tpu case would rub on it. Scratch that idea. Then i bought the casemate phantom. The screen protector for the case pops on the front of the phone and then you cram the phone inside the outer shell of the case. Snapped the screen protector part putting the phone in the case one day and to boot the case is huge compared to the defender series but it was on backorder of course and i couldn't wait. So scratch that idea. I've always been an otterbox fan so i was finally able to order the defender for it. Awesome to a point. The case is somewhat smaller than the phantom which is awesome and great protection but i just don't like the screen protector. I've always liked the commuter cases screen protector because it was crystal clear on my other galaxy s phones and you can appreciate the screen more. If otterbox still offers the seperate screen protector for the commuter i'll probably use that along with the defender for the ultimate case. Just my 2 cents. Hope i could help.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I've never had an otterbox before a few days ago, but went with the defender model.
For previous Androids i've gone with the trident cases, and like them. The ones i've had are not comparable to the defender version of the otterbox, but i'll say now that any non-slide phone in the future for me will take into consideration defender case availability as part of the purchase decision.
It just feels safe now, the device.
Some things that could be better - the trident cases I've used have covers for speaker/mic with a filter behind to keep the dust out. This is decidedly lacking on the otterbox.
The holster is awesome, though. It's like the final stage of usefulness/protection. It makes a hard plastic shield over the screen and is an extra structural reinforcement of the protection level to the device.
Already i've turned it around in the holster, screen out, and clipped it to my visor in my car. Improv GPS mount.
In the same way you can just put something in the clip for back support and have a desk/tabletop mount for the device anywhere. Sitting in a hotel room watching a movie off the nightstand is much easier with this case.
My first impression of the clip on the holster was to cut it off and make a smooth outer shell for pocket carry. I may very well buy another case to try this out. The clip being on the case has literally proven it's case not to be cut off by how immediately useful it's been.
Another drawback, my only other complaint, the built-in screen protector.
Here again is another reason to buy a second case. Beyond trying it out without the belt clip, is trying it out without the screen protector.
I've seen a lot of threads where people mention cutting the on-board screen protector out of the defender with an xacto knife or something. Owning one, I now see why. I sit here debating the ramifications of the overall case structure if I do cut it out, because I would very much like to.
The silicon shell should still hold the case together, as well as the clips underneath that hold the case together, but I do worry about separation of the front of the case to the sides without the screen protector to hold them together. Especially given the holster clip will encourage that separation through use.
When the phone came in at the verizon store, I made sure that the first thing done to the device was to put a screen protector on it. Few days later I got the otterbox. It's whole life after unboxing, it's had a screen protector adhered to it's face. That part is important, as the otterbox screen protector just sits on the face, not adhered to it. This, to me, is an unacceptable level of compromise in protection of the device.
Without being adhered, the screen is subject to dust and oils getting between the screen protector and the screen itself. Once that happens, you are looking at the overlaid 'protector' acting like a piece of sandpaper with the dirt under it every time you touch it.
All in all, I can't see myself using anything but a defender to protect the SGSIII - a few slight modifications to the case and I will be completely satisfied.
I never played with a commuter model, but here are some thoughts on the defender.

You don't need an xacto knife to remove the built-in screen protector. The screen is adhered to the case by a strip of removable glue. Just push the screen protector in with a little force and it pops right off. You can then remove the glue around the edges by simply pulling the one long strip up around the edge.
The built-in screen protector does suck. It makes the screen very pixalated and dust does get trapped under the screen protector.
Try this out... Remove the built-in screen protector and buy a best skin ever wet protector. Apply that wet protector, let it dry completely, now place you defender case (with built-in protector removed) on the phone. This is the setup I have and it is absolutely perfect. I promise you'll love this setup. I'm extremely anal about my screen protector and case combinations for my phones and I've tried 5 different combinations before going with the BSE/defender combination. Trust me, it doesn't get better than this combination. My screen quality is perfect and my phone is secure and safe.

You don't need any videos or anything. All you're gonna need to do is pop the screen protector off by pushing it away from the case. It's actually really simple and doesn't require much effort at all. U won't break the case doing it. Just know that once u remove the screen protector, you can't reapply it. So u may want to see what the screen clarity looks like before removing the built in screen protector. You may think the screen quality is ok with it.

had a chance to check out both the other day.
imo there's no real comparison between the two..and the commuter is almost useless to choose over the defender
its harder to take the commuter on and off imo...
it doesn't feel as nice as the defender..and its slippery..
the buttons are hard to press.... no where near impossible or anything like anyone really says when they complain but it's definitely not convenient and its fairly annoying...I actually had the phone try to slip out of my hand a few times while squeezing the phone to press the buttons.
and....the defender for the SG3 isn't as big as you'd think it is (especially in comparison to the commuter)
best part....the silicone otterbox uses on there defender has always been my main complaint...but they've used some stiffer stuff, doesn't flop off at all (or really stretch like at all) and it doesn't feel like it will collect a ton of lint or snag too much coming out of a pocket. It's just the right amount of grip
Can anyone post pic of the 'improved' defender (without plastic screen)?
I am loving my commuter. Buttons are fine for me even the power being hard to press Is not a deal breaker. My main gripe is screen protectors seem to be an issue if they are full like the curved crystal. Lesson learned, I am going to try the one that came with the case today.

Definitely. I was thinking of getting a thinner case, but I drop my phone often enough that Commuter is worth it. I have the green one and I imagine it can get quite dirty in the future.
Buttons are definitely hard to press, but I can get used to it I guess. Definitely worth it for the protection alone.

It looks exactly like the defender.. Just without the plastic screen protector. Think of it as a window with no glass. The window will still look the same, it just has no glass. U will be using a wet screen protector instead of the builtin screen protector.

[Q] otterbox defender VS ballistic maxx

hi guys
i have been comparing these two products for a quite some time and i cannot give my final decision to which product should i buy. i am looking for a case that has a front face cover. and i found the ballistic maxx and otterbox defender. but what makes me think twice between these product is the comes with screen protector. these protector is quite think and most likely it will ruin the colors of my S3's screen. i have seen it in some product reviews posted by youtube users. the screen becomes glary. and the second thing that makes me think twice is, if i remove the screen protector, will my S3 shake around inside the case if i dont use the screen protector?
i tried contacting the customer support of otterbox they said they cannot answer my concern. and for ballistic they told me i can still use the case even if i dont use the screen protector, but i still do not understand what they really meant. and they did not gave me a straight answer to my question on what will really happen if i did not use their product's screen protector.
now i would like to ask your personal opinion about these two products, which is better? and if you guys did not use the comes with screen protector will your S3 shake around inside the case? and lastly i am just looking for a case that has a front cover. i dont really like the flip cover cases.
thanks
From what I read about the defender taking out the screen protector does not affect the snugg-ness of the phone and case.
I have the trident kraken that came with a removable screen protector, that I decided but to use.
Sent from Pluto.
I know how you feel, i looked at both those cases and went with the Trident Kraken. Provides the same level of protection and the kickstand is a bonus. Second choice would be the otterbox.

I personally hated the otter box, sold it as soon as I got the chance. I kept the maxx and it's the case I go for when I need a holster.
I took the screen protector off of my defender with no fit issues. I stopped using it because it squeeks so much. When you hold the phone. This may be due to extra flexing from the removed screen protector as it is rigid and glued in.
The otterbox is an awesome case, the only thing I hate is that the outer silicone layer always stretches out. The defender for my GS3 streched out after 2 months...

I think it's just the case in general. My screen protector is still in tact and it squeaks like no other.
I'm tempted to get a new case, but can't decide. I've narrowed it down to the SG MAXX, Commuter, Kraken, PX260, and the Dualtek.

I got the dualtek case yesterday, it's a really nice case. I just wish there was a compatible holster for it.

I have both cases mentioned in OP. The included screen covers are garbage. Make the screen look like crap plus particles such as sand, dirt (I am in construction field) and so on can get behind protector and scratch screen.
Standard zagg and otterbox working well for me. Zagg HD seemed to thin and marked up easy om my pocket. Otter box laps over the edge of the zagg, which so far has kept the edge from peeling on me which is a common problem for me and my use.
Ballastic has great rubber corners for drop protection but the otter box is easier to slip in and out of pocket and my preferred case.

I also have both cases described in OP and have to agree to a point, the screen protectors make the screen look terrible. I went with the Ballistic for a couple reasons. 1. The Ballistic seems to slide in and out of my pocket easier (probably because it has more smooth surface than the Defender). 2. The belt clip seems more comfortable to me. The Defender belt clip seemed to sit higher on me which would gouge my hip. Not cool. 3. I got the Defender used when I bought my phone and the rubber on it seems a little loose. I don't think this will happen with the Ballistic mainly because my wife has one on her Note and it's help up extremly well. 3. I got my Ballistic Maxx on ebay for $30 in the color I wanted and I thought that was a good price. Now I need to ditch this screen protector and get a nice one.
I too have both cases. I did/don't use any of the screen protectors that came with it. As for OP, it really depends what you're trying to get out of it. What's your average day like? do you work in an office? go to school? work in construction? I am a process engineer and i'm in and out of food plants and i pull my phone out to snap pictures at least 4 times a day on a daily basis for an hour or so. With that being said I NEED the protection because I have dropped it a few times. I'm currently using the Ballastic without the clip, i just hold it in my pocket. The otterbox is a bit bulkier for me and it slips easy (from hand and in and out of pocket). The ballistic on the other hand, doesn't. It gives you good grip, and isn't a pain for me to pull out of my pockets (i wear dickies for work and rvca romero ii jeans when i'm out and about or jordan basketball shorts when i feel like bumming it). I like the grip because it doesn't slip out of my pockets easily when i wear basketball shorts as the ottorbox did. HOWEVER, be warned that it does pull lint easily. It's not alot where you'll get a hairball when you pull it out of your pockets but it is there. Overall, I'm sticking with the ballastic because it offers great drop protection (as does the OB), but with the corners I personally feel it's more secure and it's not as bulky as people say it is. I'll post up pictures when i get the chance.

LG Nitro HD Ballistic Hard Core (HC) case

Received this case in the mail and testing it out. So far, it makes the phone bulky but I don't mind since it has a belt clip and holster to carry it. Protection is out of this world. It has an optional silicone shell outside of the case for added security but holster can be used with or without it. 5 layers of protection, integrated screen protector and a kickstand built into the back of the case. Normally $50, but can be found on amazon for $13-$15. Overall an amazing case and well worth every penny spent. Very sturdy as well as accessible buttons and ports through the case. I would recommend this case for all LG Nitro users. Pics posted soon. Any questions, feel free to ask.

You got it right that this case is an absolute beast! I've had it since around January or February 2012; don't know why I never thought of writing a review for it... but I digress.
I want to throw in some things which I do that I find really works for me. I got tired of not seeing the full beauty of the HD display; because, lets face it, the plastic screen protector really detracts from the display quality. The fact that little dust particles and pocket lint would get caught up behind that same plastic screen protector and stick out like a sore thumb also got on my nerves terribly. My resolution to these problems: I bought a Zagg Invisible Shield screen protector, another $12-13 from Amazon, and installed it onto the phone. Then, I carefully removed the plastic cover from the Ballistic case and put the phone/case back together. You still retain the awesome protection of the Ballistic case with the stunning beauty of the Nitro's 720p HD display. An added bonus is that you will never have to take the case apart again to clean that one stupid speck that somehow got lodged between the screen and the screen protector 20 minutes after you took it apart and cleaned it!
That is true, I haven't had anything get under the protector yet but it does slightly degrade the quality of the screen. It might be worth trying it out. But I am loving this case. Its my second ballistic case and I'll never buy another brand of case for any phone. Thanks for the added input and work around.

Ballistic is awesome and i have one !!!! Sorry for my bad english!!!
I'm probably gonna go with the ghost armor and do the same, as far as removing the screen protector on the case. But overall, I love it. Its a beast.

yeah i bought this case 2 days after i bought my phone, great case but i had to use a knife and carve out around the microphone hole cuz they didn't make it big enough, this also actually helped the microphone cover to stay on better when not being used
i also cut the screen protector out of it cuz i use replacable ones that give better vision of the screen.
will any of the mentioned cases work with batery boosters? (hyperion and what not)

Have not tried any battery booster along with the case. As far as I know, it fits the stock phone securely in the case as it doesn't move around at all and provides excellent protection. (Ballistic hard core case)

do you think if you removed the nitros back cover, and your battery was twice as large that it'd still fit inside the ballistic HC? (try putting a folded bill in to test)

Well, I don't have a bill to fold.. lol, but it is possible that you may be able to. I just can't say either way and I'm not gonna tell you yea and have it not fit. All I can say is try it and see and if you can't use it, sell it. Its a $50 case for cheap. So its worth it if it does fit.

I have one of these. It's pretty awesome protection, but it is way to big for my taste.
Does anyone know of case with protection close to as good as this one but slimmer?

You can try a body glove. Comparable to otterbox. Less bulk but good protection.

Ballistic Soft Gel - thinner alternative to Hard Case
I have the Ballistic Soft Gel case
http://www.amazon.com/Nitro-Ballist...1367820799&sr=1-6&keywords=ballistic+lg+nitro
that does not have the screen protector or removable extra outer cushion. It's slightly thinner, with hefty rubber cushions at the corners and a hard plastic back. The Soft Gel case is easier to remove than the Hard Case. The rubber corner cushions protrude above the screen and protect the front of the phone from any "incoming" flat surfaces. like a floor.
It has protected my phone through a few nasty drops, and yet the touch screen is open and directly accessible (and unprotected).
This case sucked. I tried three and on all of them the opening which was frustrating to open completely would leak dust in so much. This caused me to open up the case once a day to clean the device causing the opening mechanism to be even more broken. The screen protector scratched easily and the gap between it and the screen was ridiculously big. Get the soft gel ballistic. That plus zagg screen protector is the best option for this device!

I had the same issued with mine as well. Before putting it inside the Ballistic, I had applied an Xtremeguard screen protector. Since the space between the Ballistic screen cover and the phone screen was not constant, it looked as if there was water on my screen because the Ballistic screen was touching the Xtremeguard in some places but not others. Removing the Xtremeguard solved this issue. I have to open my Ballistic to clear out the dust every two weeks.

TOUGHEST protection case out there? Otterbox?

Hey folks,
I adore my HTC ONE so much that it deserves the very best protection ever made for a smartphone.
With my HTC EVO 3D I always used the DEFENDER CASE mady by OTTERBOX (awesome thing), but OTTERBOX did not develop a satisfactory case for the ONE. Why? The screen protection of the DEFENDER case ends where the HTC button starts, thus allowing dust to crawl under the screen protector. Whoever developed this deserves a smack on the head.
I like OTTERBOX, but f*ck it, if they don't produce protection for adventurers, I'll spend my money somewhere else...
Recommend me the toughest protection you know of for this great phone!

Good job ignoring the OP and disregarding his request.
I too, am searching for a good rugged style case. I tried 2 of the cheap Chinese otter box style cases. They don't fit well and loosen up after you take them off. I think the best solution for now, is to use the defender with a good screen protector and rip out the defender's sorry excuse for a built-in shield.

I'm using a Trident kraken AMS for my one with the bike mount accessory. The case is not that high quality as would have expected and also I can not see how the hell can it be considered dust and rain resistant (as per their own description) since the speaker grills are exposed.
I took off the pathetic screen shield and replaced it with a continuous plastic film which is not sealing the entire front of the phone.
However .. I'm disappointed with the build quality of this expensive case.

Any case for the ONE covering EVERYTHING? I don't care if it looks like a soldier's phone afterwards, my phone DESERVES the most rugged and awesomest protection ever made in history! Perhaps, I should not even use it. ^^
I would just recommend an regular hybrid double layer case, they work just as well as an trident/otter case. But the price is almost 4x as much for these branded products.

lol... keep in a lock box where ever u go .. and attach a bluetooth for receiving calls.... U CANT TOUCH ME!
on a side note: its just a phone, holds no value in real life. just a gadget so that you keep feeling special.
I got the Hyperion dual layer case from amazon for ten bucks. I do general contracting work, flimsy plastic clip got snagged and broke while on 18 foot ladder. Dropped to asphalt driveway, a few scuffs on case, phone no damage. I replaced clip with metal one from amazon, and cover usb and 3.5 with electrical tape. Works great for me and I am confident with it. Any resourceful adventurer can easily replace clip (epoxy, small rounded bolt and nut)

There are "Anti Dust Headset Charger Jack Plug Stopper" silicone thingies for 1$ or so on eBay. Plug them in instead of taping
I bought a One a couple of days ago and have ordered this case:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190863428965
I like the dual-layer cases with a soft silicone inner glove and a hard plastic shell. I wanted one that had a cutout for the power button so I could use the IR blaster. It looks pretty sturdy and has protection for the corners. I'll let you know how it fits and take some pics when it arrives.

Ha, what do you guys think about THIS MONSTER? My search is crystalizing down to this - awesome that it brings a FULL screen protection as well as 4 crazy layers of the most durable materials around! Now top that!
It looks nice, but I'd skip the top layer. The One really needs a screen protector that is bonded directly to the screen. The problem with rigid screen protectors that aren't bonded is gunk can enter through the speaker cutouts.

Yep, I know that. Ever heard of tape? It'll do the finish. ^^
I personally have the otterbox commutter and don't even use a screen protector still not a scratch I clean it over and never put keys in same pocket as phone but the screen is made to be UN scratchable sand is reallly the main thing to watch out for
If you want a full screen protector buy a premium one from a bigger phone like note or something and cut it with a razor blade to cover all the way from both speakers I've done it already but screen protectors go bad and get dust under then after a while and never look as good as the phone does without protector
