How to extract system.img

Hi all,
I am trying to develop a rom but I came along this difficulty: I can't find the sysyem.img. I tried to download a .zip file, only the folder named "system" came in it. And I tried it with a .exe and looked in "%TEMP%" no luck either...
Can anyone explain how I should extract the system.img?
Thanks in advance.
I guess your referring to a nandroid backup really. When you download a rom, it comes in a zip file which you can flash and has only a boot.img file (I think, can't remember off top of my head) so it can boot. It doesn't have anything else. You only see a system.img file when you do a nandroid backup. Everything that is in the system.img file is still the same as the system folder in a zip file.. more or less.
If you do have a system folder, it is possible to convert it using the HTC Kitchen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
That should help heaps with ROM development
Can you please explain to me how I can convert the system folder, I don't have a clue.
Convert it how? How do you want to convert the system folder? And why? Might help us out more you know.
On "Theunlockr" (My guide for making a rom) It says
"If you have a .zip file, you can unpack the system.img and boot.img"
I only have the boot.img and a system folder!
And it also says: "If you have a .exe, run it until the first screen and then go to run and type %TEMP% and a rom.zip should be here"
in both cases it is not the case.
So, can anyone help me out please?

what you could try is:
take the rom from with you want to use the radio.
rename the .exe to .rar and extract it.
remove the biggest .nbh file.
run the updateutility.exe and hope it will flash (if it works then it only flash the radio)
remember that it will always hardreset the phone (it isn't a custom ruu)
oh and remember ! it is always at your own risk

But wouldnt that over write the rom on the device?
Ive extracted the rom using HTC ROM image editor.
I now have
GSM.nb
OS.nb
SPL.nb
I take it the Gsm.nb is the radio? but how do i create that into a image to flash?

oh no not that .
one more time
1) take a rom (the one with the radio you want)
example:
RUU_Schubert_HTC_Europe_1.69.401.01_Radio_5.54.09.21_22.33b.50.10_Signed_SCHUBERT_TEST.exe
2) rename .exe to .rar and extract.
3) now you have a folder with some files
4) delete "RUU_signed.nbh" from the folder.
5) run ROMUpdateUtility.exe

[Q] How to edit system.img

I downloaded factory image from code.google.com,and I extracted a file who name is system.img, but I don't know how can I unpack it.
I don't know unpack it with what software,Is not always able to unpack the file when I
tried some softwares.(yaffs2img,winimage,winRAR and something else)
what is a right way to extract and edit it?
Thank you!
you don't extract .img files.... you flash the img file through fastboot.
google on how to use fastboot for more details.
You can extract them just fine. I used dsixda's kitchen to extract system.img so that I could pull the gapps.

Yes, it works ok. Just put the system.img in the original update and choose to make a rom from that file. It will guide you through extracting the system.img. You might be able to get it to build the entire rom if you just zip all of the .img's together and choose that for the input file.
Thank you so much and I'll try. ^^
You can use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15333542& postcount=135 to convert the image to an .ext4.img and then use http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ to mount (if you are using Windows).

I assumed that i need extract files before flashing to phone, i own several android devices , and for example lg use kdz files, and people just rar it for less space or , uploading server rules! This is my frist HTC wich i want to "customize",and for other devices i used to extract files from .rar before flashing! From your's reaction i think that i use .rar to flash with?
Re: Extracking CM-10.1-20130316-STAGING-5-endeavoru from rar
Firstly, the file is a zip archive.
Secondly, yes, you flash them just like that, without unzipping or extracting.

The only file you need to extract from the rom.zip is the boot.img file. It must be flashed with fastboot commands
