mytouch 4g bluetooth swivel cradel - myTouch 4G Accessories

I have been searching for a deal on this dock and found one through Ebay. This is a bulk item. They told me that it is the same dock without the Tmobile packaging. They are selling them for $39.99 shipped. I bought two. Thought I would share it with you. I have no affiliation with them. Ebay item #180622400868

Nice, ill probably buy two aswell...

I read that it is hard to put the phone in the cradle but it gets easier with use. I would not try to force it.

Well since you bought two, you will see why it is hard to get in.. The dock isnt a bad design, it holds the phone good, its just they could have done without the usb plug where it is...

I have not received mine yet. I am going to make one of them work in my car. I like the idea of sliding it into a cradel instead of having to hook power and the 3.5mm audio out to my car. Seems like the best option currently. Not sure what the three contacts on the side do. Do they would do audio and power?

Na the 3 prong on the side is just for power but it does relieve a lot of wear and tear on your usb slot. I saw the modded one of the original tmobile one and it looks pretty good.

yea i had that idea to, the bad side is that it is only audio/media streaming through the Bluetooth... which means you cant answer calls through the Bluetooth you would still have to pick it up...

thanks, its still a work in progress because it is a nexus one car mount that i used with the mt4g desk dock, I dunno if i wanna mold the two pieces together to make it one?! and I am gonna cut it well just the sides... I don't have the Bluetooth connected since its not finished yet...

I just thought I'd mention that I found this on Amazon for $37.89: amazon.com/Bluetooth-Multimedia-T-Mobile-OrionGadgets-Accessories/dp/B004DR3O68/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1

Sure would be nice if someone made a car dock that used the side pins for charging.

Carrrrrnut. Thats the same one I bought. It works great for audio streaming.

I've never used a dock that was SO FREAKING HARD to get the phone in. I've gotten used to it, but it's virtually impossible to put the phone in without the power button getting pressed and bringing up the power options menu. It's kind of annoying. It's also kind of a pain to get out of the dock. Since you can't grab the sides you sort of have to squeeze the top edge of the phone to pull it out. Sometimes I'm afraid I'm going to damage the screen. I think the dock played a part in breaking my power button, even though I know it's an issue with these phones in general. It's just a really poorly designed dock. I don't know what they were thinking. Nevertheless, I have two of them and mounted one in the car to charge, use Navigation, and bluetooth audio. Wish there were some more choices though...

Correct. It is a real POS, and I don't recommend that anyone use it. I jacked up my first phone pretty badly, using this dock. It killed my power button after a month of docking, and the added pressure to the seams caused dust particles to pour into the top left-hand corner of the LCD layer.
Absolutely miserable piece of hardware. Shame on T-Mo for the design. What's the point of creating a phone with docking pins, and never using them? It's the whole reason I kept this phone over the Nexus S. I still can't believe no solutions have come along.

The lady the store literally told me they were pointless.

They do/did!
http://www.skinandcase.com/products/T%2dMobile-My-Touch-4G-Docking-Station.html
On the T-Mo forums some have purchased this before it was withdrawn from the market and apparently it had quality control problems, some didn't work, some worked perfectly and some worked only after disassembly and re-soldering.
Too bad, it's the perfect dock with a perfect price. Who knows if it'll ever be available again.... <sigh>
I wish I'd bought one, soldering a wire that came off in shipping wouldn't be a problem but I didn't and now they're gone. Oh, well......

there ya go
just ordered from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RU8YMY
the one on ebay have the key chain hole , which is pretty cool .
Javoedge one is reliable ( well, the brand ) but the shape is kinda bulky. with a lil mod , I can make it stick to a key chain.
In the end, I think both of them are from China anyway. So I properly go for the one on ebay.
Luckily I didn't bought the USB adapter with the lead from the German Amazon recently,
the small USB adapter is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for the heads up.
Does the lead-less adapter work with the HTC Touch?
I ordered the one with lead with my HTC touch cruise. It's amazing how someone could come up with such a stupid design. The bend on the connector only has a slight purpose if you use a a belt-clip holster or something. I use the sleeve that came with the phone and have it in my pocket. I obviously got a bad connection just beside the usb plug, due to the ridiculous stress on the cord. The cord is even thinner than usual just to ensure that it goes straight to ****s upon first use. In addition it causes unnecessary strain on the usb-connector in the phone. I see that's also the case with the one without lead.
The reason for me to bump this thread, other than venting my frustration, is to ask if anyone have tried to solder on a mini-jack-plug to the headset that came with your phone? The earplugs are so ****ty than that even my grandmother would complain, and she's deaf. In other words I have no problem in experimenting with them. What I'm worried about is that someone told me that if the head set I'm going to use pulls more power than the old ear plugs, that may cause the usb-connector to malfunction. Or worse, the phone. Now that's something I'm not willing to experiment with, so I'm wondering if this is something that others have tried, or if someone can give me a 110% assurance that my phone won't suffer if I try?
headphones
Hello,
of course I can not give you a guarantee your phone won't suffer, but I don't see one reason why it should do: You can buy original HTC adapters for plugging in whatever earphones, so why shouldn't you be able to use the original cord for that purpose? I did this with my original wallaby headphones, only I didn't solder a 3.5mm jack but the "speakers" of other earphones. It worked well. At my Orbit I use the W100 remote together with Sennheiser MX 550 earphones, which sound great!
Matzix
PS: If you need some earphones to experiment, I can give my apple-earphones to you, which came with my 4G-ipod! It's incomprehensible, why an audio device comes with such rubbish...
Can I have your headphones to experiment? I'd love to deprive open those suckers and expermient lol.

Maybe this is what you need...
Anyways I have been making these for awhile now and sold quite a few to people I know, Craigs List and forums. I actually bought quantities and Im starting to Ebay them. I'll also have different brands of buds offered. The current headset is very capable and in fact looks very stylish.
Anyways so yes you can solder other buds to the original headset though you can destroy both if you dont know what are you doing.
Later.
i got one off ebay last week. it works great. cant wait to use it on the airplane and watch some movies!!!

Yeah, I'm thinking that too. If anything is going to suffer it would be the amplifier in the remote. I'm definately going to try now. Not going to mess up my headset in any case, I'll just attach the mini-jack plug.

Hehe, thanks a lot, but I've got more crappy earphones bundled with whatever device than I've got fingers. I just don't get why HTC or whoever could just add that extra 30$ for halfway decent earphones. If anything they just lower the overall impression of their device.

I have no doubt they do, but I think I'll still prefer my bose noise canceling headset over them.
Also the option to switch to ear-buds at times when that's necessary. How about adding one with a mini-jack plug to your inventory? I think that could be a potential winner.
Anyways so yes you can solder other buds to the original headset though you can destroy both if you dont know what are you doing.

Hehe, I don't have a degree or anything, but I think I can manage to solder left to left and right to right. Not exactly rocket science that. I'll leave enough cord to have a couple of trial and errors even. And as I mentioned above, I won't touch the headset. The mini-jack adapter is messed up anyway (It lasted for a full three hours. )and I really couldn't care less for the bundled ear-buds.
haha i wasnt saying its a rocket science but it could indeed be a pain. i like you plan about leaving the extra cord anyways the Skullcandy headphones i work with are also noice canceling and sound mindblowing when paired with decent player and eqalizer. of course i prefer my Vmodas but this headset gives me the comfort of caring something not that expencive that sounds great and allows me not to carry an arsenal of headphones, headsets, adapters and etc. its nice to be able to pick up the phone while enjoying some music and dont have to disconect everything.
good luck.
does anyone know if this works on a 6700? My headphone jack broke and if this could be an alternative it would be alot cheaper then having the headphone jack repaired
Actually kinda thinking this might work good in my truck. Using the phone to stream some of the hard to find ol' school funk from various websites while being able to keep my phone charged. Since I already have the bluetooth unit in my stereo system (Pioneer AVIC-Z2) it would mute the music and apply the phone call through the truck's stereo system. Which would alleviate having to unplug the adapter and fumble to answer the phone all while adhering to the new California cell phone laws that are coming into effect on July 1st. Has anyone tried this?
re: USB to 3.5mm adapter
Hi guys i got this from ebay, it's not listed as working with Niki /touch plus but it works fine and has a hands free built in too. Will probably work with most 11 pin mini USB ports, MDA etc.... Only £4.90 inc postage, great device!!
Oh i forgot, has the answer/end call button built in too and you can use any 3.5mm headphones so you can dump the rubbish ones that HTC ship.

I have included a video because there was a number of people that were concerned about the stability, holding power, and the ease of docking and undocking on a dock that was not designed for our phone. As you can see, the phone goes in and out of the dock with ease one handed. It also sits in the dock well tight enough to support the weight of the attached Mac Mini. The package includes the dock, it’s stand as well as an adhesive plate for mounting on the dash if desired. Although the dock does allow you to plug a power supply directly to the dock, the power supply is not included, which is pretty much the norm. The dock also has an audio output port, however when I tested this the audio is not rerouted to this port and comes from the speaker of the phone. The workaround for this is to plug the audio in to the headphone jack of the phone itself, which this dock does accommodate for. Last of all, as you can see from the pictures, the dock does have the proper cut outs for the speaker and camera on the back, so in theory you can always video your driving habits
Members on this Forum are reporting that they are picking up this dock from their Local AT&T stores for about $18. I purchased mine from Amazon HERE for over $30 and am very happy I did (though I wish I had found the $18 deal first).
Pros:
Easy to use
Does not require attaching power to the phone like a universal dock would
Hold the phone very well with little vibration
Cons:
Audio out from the dock does not seem to work with the Epic Touch --> UPDATE: As pointed out in the reply below, the audio out on the back of the dock works just fine if you adjust the settings.
Thanks for the review and pics!
BTW, the current price at AT&T online is $17.99 +tax, free 2 day shipping.
Link:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...ails/?LOSGId=accessoryBucket&q_sku=sku5190308
The best price for the epic touch specific mount (from a reputable source) is still $39.99. Good amount of savings in this deal.
Audio out works you have to go into dock settings from the main settings menu and check audio mode.
Wanted to add more pros;
Bluetooth routes to headset instead of speakers if a call comes in
Media volume stays at last set instead if lowering once plugged in
Screen stays on instead of timing out.
Thanks for the review and video!
Order mine from att
Thanks walord!

Profile Settings <-- Works great. Will enable/disable auto rotate if that is what you are looking for.
BTW, I set it so my phone also now auto connects to my Nissan's Built in Bluetooth Hands Free system. And as was pointed out, when using the dock, you do not have to unplug the AUX cable when a call comes in for them to hear you.

Heads up:
Just went to the AT&T store to pick up an Infuse car dock... rang up as $17.50. The sales guy tried to sell me the desktop dock as well. I asked how much it was, so he scanned it and it rang up for $0.01. There's a bundled discount when you buy both together. So I paid $17.51 total for the car dock and desktop dock.
thanks for the tip OP, car dock works great! Desktop dock is a little snug, but it fits.

Wow, thanks for that info! I bought the car dock yesterday, but will go back and see if they will retro the combo.
Picked up the car dock a few days ago after reading this thread. Great quality and design. Love it. Not perfect, but I've gotten worse for 2x the money.
Question: are your phones running HOT while plugged in? Unplugged temp on my phone runs about 80°F. Plugged in runs maybe 85°. Even if in a garage (not in the sun), this dock is getting my phone up to about 115°, I've seen 120+ in the sun. I think the issue is that it's reading the dock not as a simple charger plugin, but as a media addon (sorry - I have no idea what to call it. I hope that makes sense) and is maybe constantly running background processes, even when just used as a charger. (I'm not running ANY apps - no nav, no audio - it's simply plugged in, same as if I just ran a charger from the lighter). (Stock, non-rooted phone)
Just curious if anyone noticed this, or thinks they have an explanation. I'm just concerned about operating temps for when I DO run Nav and it's 110° out. (SoCal)
(All that said... off to ATT to see if I can add on that desk dock for $.01 without too much arguing and hassle.)
I've only used my Infuse car dock once since I got it, and noticed that my E4GT was very hot when I removed it. I used it for Google Navigation and the ambient temperature was only in the 60s F. I only drove about 30 minutes, and I suspect that another 30 minutes would have caused it to seriously overheat.
I had the same problem with the Evo in the official HTC car dock. It would get so hot that the charge light started flashing and it stopped charging. I blamed that on the 100+ degree Texas summer days, but now I wonder if there is a correlation. The E4GT didn't get that hot, but it felt like it was close.

Samsung Fascinate to Galaxy Nexus Dock mod

Here's a mod I did because I was fed up with the GN not having a proper desk dock. This uses a stock Fascinate dock but has the location of the plug modified in order to fit the GN. It took a bit of cutting and fitting but the process is pretty straight forward. This also sets dock mode which means you get landscape lockscreen without any fiddling (finally!), and youtube will always stay in landscape (YES!!!).

Read the instructions for more info. To answer your questions 1) no it does not use the pogo pins, it just uses the micro USB and 2) Dock mode allows for landscape lockscreen if the phone is in that orientation. You can turn the phone and it'll go into portrait just fine.

Here's a mod I did because I was fed up with the GN not having a proper desk dock. This uses a stock Fascinate dock but has the location of the plug modified in order to fit the GN. It took a bit of cutting and fitting but the process is pretty straight forward. This also sets dock mode which means you get landscape lockscreen without any fiddling (finally!), and youtube will always stay in landscape (YES!!!).

it's only $5.66 on amazon for it, so it's a nice alternative while we wait for something official...

EDIT: it went up ten cents after I posted this, how odd...

The USB charging works fine, but the GN (like some other Samsung phones) has the ability to use the USB data pins for audio line out. This should be triggered by being in dock mode, then you activate it in the dock settings. Unfortunately I can't seem to activate it. I'm suspecting its a software issue, but I'll have to test more resistors (gonna try 1K and 619K) across the ID pin in order to make sure of that.
Oh good, I was looking for a USB charging with a dock like this and now I may consider getting it and making the mod since it worked out so well.
modded my captivate dock tonight... didnt cut off a chunk of the front face like that one though... turned out pretty nice, removed the LED at the bottom because that always annoyed me on my night stand.
i was hoping to modify it so that it would fit with my case, no such luck.... fits fine with my extended battery though.
not sure if i'll want to take my case off every night so I might just sell this if someone wants it.

The reason I cut that chunk off was to fit the micro USB plug a little farther forward so that I could use it with a case. when I was test fitting I found that without a case the plug would fit fine behind the plastic, which makes sense since the plastic I cut was just slightly thinker than the TPU of my case.

i was thinking about doing that, cutting it cleanly and then gluing the piece back on to kind of cover it up, but i dont have any cutting discs for my dremel (couldnt even find my damn dremel)
i actually made the hole for the plug relocation with a soldering iron.
I also looked at your pics, but did NOT read, so of course I tried prying the whole face up and marred it a bit before pulling the back panel and using the screws.

My captivate was pretty much the same size as my GN, thicknes wise, how much modification did u do? can i fit it in the cappy dock withot significant effort? I am not very good at cutting & filing and soldering lol...
And does your audio out thru usb work?

Lol I did some good damage to my dock as well doing the same thing you did, hence me writing it up so people can avoid my stupidity .
When I did the cuts I just used some wire cutters instead of a dremel. It would have taken longer to set up the dremel than it took to snip a couple times and cut that piece off.

every single samsung SGS generation dock is pretty much constructed the same way. They also use pretty much the same internals. Maybe SGS2 docks are different, but I haven't torn one apart to find out (anyone know where I can get an SGS2 dock for cheap?). The exceptions to this are the "multimedia" docks which have HDMI built in. Those simply roll in a MHL adapter, or take micro HDMI from the phone (like in the case of the Droid Charge).
Oh I bought mine already in was hoping for audio out... Too bad I suppose. If anyone figure out anyway to get it working post lol

audio out does not work, you don't need to solder, you basicallly take it apart, then cut a hole where the USB jack should go above the captivate location, move the plug and glue it in.
all of the galaxy S docks are the same functionally, just slightly different shapes where the phone sits because the captivate and fascinate are shaped differently... vibrant should be pretty similar to fascinate.
lol, epic 4g is thicker, and the charge port is in the center like ours... might be the best to experiment with. (i used the captivate dock because I already had one)
can i just take the plastic case from the dock and swap in a mhl adapter so it will be a dock that i can plug into my tv or will i not have room

There's plenty of room, but you'll have to resolder some stuff as you'll need to right angle micro USB plug that comes with the dock. The standard straight plug from the MHL adapter USB plug will not fit correctly.
can sum1 with an epic 4g pls confirm that it fits with the nexus? bcz it seems that thickness wise, and usb port location wise, it should fit.

XtremeMac InCharge Auto BT review/discussion (with pics)

I recieved my Xtrememac incharge BT for use in the car. It's $80 but found it for $18 from nothingbutsoftware.com, strange I couldn't complete the purchase on my iPad. I'm glad it wouldn't let me cause it was $30 on the iPad but then when I shared the URL to my Nexus the price was $18. I purchased it for $18 and recieved it today. The audio quality is amazing! Even better than using 3.5mm jack from phone to aux in! I am using Volume+ but have the same settings for both wired headset and bt. I couldn't be happier with my purchase so I thought I would share. You just plug into the car charger and 3.5 jack into aux in, pair, and your done. No cables to phone and no call quality is great. The aux in part functions as a mic and button to answer/end calls. And the car charger part has a USB port for charging phone, it comes with an iPhone/iPad charger but you can plug in any USB cable for charge. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope someone else enjoys this as much as me.
Here are some pics. Disregard how messy my car is, I didn't have time to clean, vacuum, armor-all and such. I dont have time for much of anything these days cause I work in a tax office and I'm sure you know what that means this time of year. Hell I shouldn't even have time to occupy these forums but what can I say - my hobby. I took these just now spur of the moment to clear up any confusion. Also I took the picks with my GN, of course.

And just for kicks, here are some NFC tags. The left one toggles BT. The right one toggles from Auto-brightness to Brightness value 0 (completely dim - I hate bright screens). The reason these are not combined into one tag is because at night I dont need to toggle brightness.
About to get this but I'm not seeing the $18 price. Only $ 29.99. Even tried sharing the link

Not sure how I pulled this off.. looked on the iPad and it was $30, couldn't purchase so I used Read It Later to share the link to my Nexus, opened it and it was $18. Surprised the hell out of me too. Maybe it was a glitch!? But I am not going crazy, that is the price I bought it for. Even at $30 its a good purchase and with a retail price of $80 (which is a little ridiculous imo) you cant beat it.
What is the reason for this? At first I thought you plug it into your phone.. but then that made absolutely no sense to me... Do you plug it into your head unit? If I understand correctly, it is for head units that do not have bluetooth?
Wouldn't it be easier / cheaper / better audio quality to just plug Male to Male 3.5mm in?
(I have a pioneer aftermarket head unit with built in bluetooth and have no experience with not having bluetooth.. so my thoughts on the matter are biased).

Basically it's to eliminate wires.
My aux input is in my center console (right next to a power port so this works out nice) and when using 3.5mm it just seems sloppy to me with the wire being pinched in the console lid and such...
Hopefully it sounds as good for me as it does for WiredPirate.

Did you even read the OP? I explained the function - NO WIRES TO PHONE. And I stated that this sounds BETTER than using the 3.5mm cable. Give me a minute and I will take a pic for you.
As far as the Pioneer BT deck I have one as well. Sitting in my closet. I loved it in my Crown Vic but after buying a new off the lot vehicle I couldn't bring myself to tear up the dash, maybe I will in the future, but for now this works great.
Edit: Uploaded some pics for you bud.

3.5 cable = nexus to car.
Bluetooth = nexus to bluetooth to car... via 3.5 cable.
How could it possibly sound better? the 3.5 cable is still in there plus one extra step
Wiredpirate,
Say you have already set up the BT connection to the phone.
The next time you get in the car, do you have to turn on or press any button to connect or does it automatically search and connect to your phone once you turn on the ignition? TIA
Just to throw this out there, Belkin Aircast is very similar to this:
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=542721
Definitely more expensive though although you can get it for $30 on sale every now and then. It works exactly the same way except it also has a large button that you can put wherever that acts as a pause/play/answer/hangup button and also houses a microphone in it. I have this setup in my Ford Fiesta and love it.
I just use my MW600 in similar fashion but at least I can use it for headphones when I'm away from the car as well like for jogging or listening to music elsewhere.
Pricier of course but a little bit more versatile. Roughly about 46 bucks.

I was looking at that also, but I read from reviews that you have to press a button to make a connection every time it powers on. Is this true? I'm also turned away by that big button so I'd probably tried to hide it from sight.
Another option is the Griffin BlueTrip, but it is also very pricey.

$30 is not bad at all for these types of devices, especially if it has an extra USB port.
Nice. My head unit has BT but not for audio. I wonder if I added this would I still be able ot stream music to the car and then for answering a call, go through my head unit? Anyone have an idea on this?
Here is where mine's going.

If you charge your phone while it's plugged in via 3.5mm you can get interference due to the phone being grounded or something something. Someone explained it better in the thread about the pogo pin car dock, as that's why the official car dock for the Galaxy Nexus uses BT audio despite being physically connected.

It depends if your cigarette lighter socket turns off and on with the car. If it does go on and off with the car, it'll just auto search for a phone when the car starts. If it always provides power (like mine), you do have to hit the button just once. I mean it's a quick tap I just do it automatically when starting my car now, not a burden to do at all.

It's actually very simple to explain. Speaker wires and power wires do not play nice together, anytime you have a power wire and speaker wire parallel to each other or crossing paths in certain ways you will get interference. (it must be a nightmare to the techs that set up for concerts and such). I know this because when I was younger I installed quite a few subs in different vehicles. There are ways to run the wires to reduce/eliminate interference. But do note in the picture, the way this is set up, the cable from the USB charger and the cable running to the aux in do not cross paths. I did use the charger last night while listening to music, no interference. Now if you have the cables all loose and tangled or crossing, I imagine you can expect some, sooo DON'T DO THAT. the same can be said about using a 3.5mm cable and a car charger, if the wires cross paths/ tangle/ whatever, you will get interference.

Thank you sir. but in all seriousness I did not expect this to sound as good as it does, much less BETTER than the 3.5mm cable I had previously been using. I guess it's possible this thing has some kind of built in amplification, but I have no idea if it does or not.

UPDATE: the above statement is true if you already have bt enabled on your phone before starting the ignition. However, if bt is turned off when you start your ignition, the xtremeMac will auto pair up upon enabling bt.

Anykind of docking station available?

Hey guys, has someone a fitting dock for the Captivate Glide?
AFAIK there is no official one, but maybe the dock of another, more famous, Samsung phone does fit the Glide also.
Greetings Alex22
Unfortunately, I think we are in lack of luck with the µUSB port on the top. This would constrain to put the phone horizontally on a dock with the docking on one edge.
This must explain the lack of docking station on eBay unlike the batteries' charging stations.
One alternative may be to reproduce this SGS mod : http://www.qianqin.de/2011/09/18/samsung-galaxy-s-wireless-inductive-charging-mod
But I don't know if it is possible with our Captivate Glide.
Here is 1 from Philips http://www.techradar.com/reviews/au...-systems/philips-fidelio-as851-1042940/review unfortunately our phone would be connected upside down. I wonder if there is an app that lets it work upside down?

Back when I used CM for the HTC Dream, I always had the option to enable the screen to rotate 360°.
So I guess it's a ROM thing, but definitely makeable.
But anyways, that's a pretty hefty docking station, and with nearly 200 pounds it's nowhere near my budget.
Lets just hope there'll be more Android Dockingstations to come.
@EMegamanu: Thanks for the link, pretty interesting that you can mod a phone like that. But I'm too afraid and too inexperienced with solderings to mod my phone like that

This looks cool the Dock Boss allows you to plug your android phone into any Ipod dock:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-20110799-251/dockboss-plug-android-phones-into-iphone-docks/
OK I doubt it allows you to control the Next track and play/pause but it should charge and route the Music to the device. It plugs to your phones audio connector and the Micro USB to charge.
Here is another dock that looks interesting uses a cable to plug to an android phone so it does not matter where the connectors are located. It also has a nice little Remote:

I like the docking station from thinkgeek. The Price is okay, the design as well, the only thing that I would nitpick about is that you can't just put the phone into the dock, but have to connect both headphone and charging cable to hte phone.
Otherwise than that it's worth the weight for me.
You know, it's a shame that our phones seem to have a cult following almost. Many people don't seem to know about it either. Samsung did great, especially since keyboard phones are going the way of the dodo, and I use a keyboard for gaming and texting anyway.
My only complaint is that there's no hardware camera button, but that's not a deal breaker in the least.
Really missing my Milestone dock.....its the only downside to this phone I can find.
I hate fishing for charging leads

The keyboard and the availability on my carrier made the decision for me. I do a lot of emailing from my phone, and the keyboard is just faster and more precise than even Swype style input options for me.
I did at first miss the hardware camera button from my old WinMo LG eXpo, it was very nifty, but it's not even an issue for me anymore. Is that a common thing among Android phones?
the galaxy s vibrant comes with a charging dock that uses the same corner usb connection. Unsure on the thickness of the phone in comparison to the vibrant though.

Well, I bought one to try out. Wasn't much, only $10 from eBay with the packaging or $13 new. Oh, I'm using a stock AT&T Captivate Glide on the latest update.
Physically, it's fine. Smaller than it looks, actually, covering about 9/10 of the length & 4/5 of the height. The depth is a bit more fudged, covering only the lower half of the slider, leaving the screen half hanging. The main issue is that although the plug is 95% on target, the 5% means you'd have to add a spacer to raise the rest of the phone up a bit. But it definitely attaches without trouble. Nice & compact.
EDIT: Driver: the charging works, though considering it didn't a few hours ago, I'm not sure what changed. Ah, the connector is a tad longer than what fits, so perhaps one must jiggle the phone a bit to get it to work? Though I tried that earlier, too....
Software/driver side is a flop. The Samsung Desk Home application from the marketplace (the generic one) doesn't work. So yeah, no automatic launching or sound out of the dock's line out. It's odd, since the settings has a dock setting in the settings, so something should work. I just wasn't able to find out what. I suppose the dock might have an identifier & the phone isn't coded in?

It's odd, since the settings has a dock setting in the settings, so something should work. I just wasn't able to find out what. I suppose the dock might have an identifier & the phone isn't coded in?

which docking station did you get? that is 1 thing I don't understand with samsung, why do they make the micro usb connector on the top of the phone? It should be on the bottom, this would be simpler for docking stations to connect and less cumbersome having a wire to conect all the way to the top of the phone.

My mistake, I forgot it's difficult to locate. Here's the Galaxy S used version <ebay.com/itm/OEM-Samsung-Galaxy-S-i9000-Multimedia-Dock-Home-Charger-/150629639833> & new version <ebay.com/itm/N-OEM-Samsung-Galaxy-S-4G-Multimedia-Dock-Home-Charger-/160616869990>. If you go through the store, there's the Vibrant & Galaxy S versions, but I'm not sure there are any differences.
Being a horizontal dock, your issue is not applicable, though it's certainly understandable.
Oh right, the clock application already has a dock function, but it doesn't activate upon docking & I couldn't get it to reroute the audio. It does prevent the screen from turning off, so I guess it's not too bad.
Hi would this work with the glue as a basic dock? not sure if the plug is in the right place for this mobile,
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Gal...UTF8&colid=2AOM2U1G0O9ZJ&coliid=I9O547D7LLW3P
if not aren't there any Samsung accessories that can be adapted for a dock to charge or hdmi out here's wishing lol.

That is the amazon location of the dock I reviewed. Everything I've mentioned should apply.
I guess glue would work? As long as it's completely dry, naturally. I used three thin nails in three rows, taped down. Not the prettiest, but at least it matches the blue led.

Hi Thanks for that, where's the link to your review and why were the nails used just to stop it dropping forward of the front of the dock, were there any other mods needed to make it work.
Thanks
Paul
The review is spread over two posts, two & four posts above my prior post with pictures.
I used nails as a spacer as the micro-USB port is a tad bit high. Everything else worked well, though the phone electrical connection to the dock may be finicky at times.
I currently use an ihome desk lamp. The glide sits rather well in the ipod dock, but I have to supply my own power. I was eyeing this the other day too http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ec56/
found it! SGH-i927 HTPC solution
here's what i think we've all been looking for:
this should be all you need to use your Captivate Glide as HTPC (or just use the dock on your night-table/desk, whatever)
iBolt™ MHL Streamer Dock - Black
http://www.fommy.com/view-full-page.php?divid=Samsung&model=Samsung+Captivate+Glide+SGH-I927&cat=Cradles&skuno=94753
the only actual dock i've found that's listed as compatible with i927, and it comes with cables! i am SO getting that one of these days...
(actually, the compatibility list is quite large, i'm guessing just about any device with MHL will work with this dock)
i happened to find this site about an hour into googling for a glide dock... they have the widest range of sgh-i927 stuff i've found:
http://www.fommy.com/samsung-captivate-glide-sgh-i927.htm
and that's the only place i've found that sells the iBolt dock...
couple that dock with a Bluetooth kbd/mouse combo; something like this:
CE Compass Bluetooth HID Wireless Keyboard Mouse
*edit*
THIS little thing is AWESOME:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/wireless-touch-keyboard-k400
I picked one up on sale at Office Depot. Works GREAT and even has a home button.
After using this on windows pc's, android tablets and android phone (USB OTG), I HIGHLY reccommend it to anyone looking for a keyboard with integrated touchpad.
two finger scrolling in windows and android works great.
in case you don't have an hdmi monitor, just an HD hdmi to dvi adapter for ~$5
(if you have to go DVI, chances are you'll need an audio cable to connect to your audio device. for example, my tv is older and doesnt do audio over DVI, but the DVI input has RCA audio inputs right beside it; so i would use a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Or you may want to run from phone headphone jack to audio line in on your home theatre audio receiver.
Chances are if you need seperate audio cable, either 3.5mm to RCA or 3.5mm double-ended cable would be what you need.)
so that's about $100 to use your phone as a desktop computer or HTPC as well.
I can't wait to try this on my 60" DLP tv....
