Clockwork wont boot into recovery. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed the latest version, nothing. Just gets stuck at the white htcinc screen.

Look in the android development forum for "the ultimate back to stock thread". download the "PB31IMGxxxxx" file there, rename it to just PB31IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sd card. Go into the bootloader and let it run the update. This will bring you back to a 2.2 stock. From there you can re-root and do whatever else you like. Just be careful with what you flash, just cause there is an update, doesn't mean you need to flash. I know it's hard but I learned that the hard way lol.

How do you manually get into recovery? I've only done it from rom manager. Im running evervolvs gingerbread 1.0.1b3 if that might be affecting cwr

So my whole problem is getting into the bootloader. I just need to flash a rom with working GPS =/. Anyone?

Edit: Weird, i just checked cwr version and it wasn't 3.0.whatever. all good now. =)

to manually get into recovery turn phone off hold volume down and power....

[OFFICIAL] DL17 update.zip

If you haven't updated yet due to any number of reasons, just drag the update.zip found here to your root of your sdcard, and boot into recovery using, while your phone is completly off, both volume keys and power and use the down key to navigate to apply update.zip and then press the camera button to select the option. That's it, a painless update, if you still have your bloat of coarse. When your done feel free to root with the one click I made. (;
Hey man i need some help.

Evo might be dead

Ok, so I have an Evo, rooted it, flashed so many roms I can't even count, my friend gets an Evo, I root it, load a few apps and send him on his way. Today he tells me his Evo reset a few times, so he went to fastboot and it asked him to update, which he did unfortunately. Now his phone wont boot past the HTC splash screen, wont boot to recovery, wont get recognized by HTC sync. I have tried to clear the storage, flash the RUU image, and so far nothing. His battery was pretty much dead when I tried flashing the PC36IMG of the RUU, so I told him to charge his battery and try again.
So is there anything I can do or is he going to have to get a new one at a sprint store?

What rom was he running when it initially messed up on him. And do you have any idea what the pc36img that he flashed from the bootloader was? Some left over files from when you rooted it maybe? I would try the ruu or pc36img a few more times, once his phone is charged up.

just to make sure.. your holding down the volume down button and pushing power at the same time? Should be able to get to the bootloader at least doing this.. then recovery..

Did the phone die in the process of updating, ect, because that could allow it to be bricked. I would recommend to try what the others posted on a full battery. And do you know what was inside the PC36IMG?
Can you get into the bootloader?...cus this happened to me a couple nights ago and I had to wipe all data from bootloader and flash the recovery from the terminal...fixed it for me
Sent from my nightly EVO
You can do a few things.
One, pull the sdcard, put it in your computer, and put recovery on the root as pc36img.zip.
Since it looks like the phone will go to boot loader, just flash the update and them try recovery. Hopefully, you did a nandroid that you can flash back to.
Or 2, if that doesn't work, put the RUU on the root of the sdcard as pc36img.zip and run the update, re-root, etc and basically start over from scratch.
I have put the recover and ruu images on the SD card and tried both from the bootloader. But like I said the battery was dead.
He didn't have a custom roms, stock rom, just rooted, and the only image he had on there was the recovery image. He had also cleared his storage at some point, not sure before or after.
I have the recovery and ruu images downloaded and I'm going to try those again, should I try the recovery first or just go straight to the ruu?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Essentially if I do the recovery image, it asks me to update, I update, it asks me to to reboot, do I reboot it go straight to recovery? Same if I do the ruu, do I reboot right away?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
If you flas recovery, when it reboots to hboot, check no for the update this time and go to recovery. Clear your caches and try to reboot.
If you flash the RUU, yo uare restoring the phone to out of the box, stock, so you have to re-root, and then flash your recovery, just like you did when you first got your phone
When I install the ruu, it turns off and then starts over again on the second step, then finishes, is that normal?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
If anyone has the correct ruu is should use, could you post it please, I think that might be my problem.

What happens after you ran the ruu? And yes, its normal for it to reboot, then finish installing. You'll see a black screen with green arrow, that's the radio flash. What happens when it finishes and you reboot? I don't have any links, I'm on my phone. But do a search, there's tons of ruu's around here.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Tried the ruu, is flashed, the rebooted, was on the HTC screen for about 5 minutes, made the boot sound, but the animation took about a minute to go through, then stopped on 4g, waiting a while longer it go to the lockscreen and wouldn't let me unlock it then brought up a force close that wont let me click it, it just sits there.
The recovery installed, it rebooted, I clicked on recovery and it stayed on the HTC screen for about 5 minutes until I pulled the battery.
Should I maybe try another ruu or recovery?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
You need to use the RUU that is specific for your phone, based on hardware version, radios, etc.
Here's a list of RUU d/l's.
It's not the best one, but I Can't find the thread with all the RUU's on it that's here on XDA.

That's weird that you were able to boot up, but it froze up on ya. Trying a different ruu wont hurt, but Im surprised the one that just succeeded for you wont run. What ruu did you run? What software? Maybe try clearing storage from the bootloader, and try to boot up again.
What hardware is your phone? What hboot version?

OTA after S-OFF?

Hey guys,
I used the AlpharevX Windows beta to S-OFF my Inc 2, then rooted using CWM (still on stock rom). I can see the OTA, and can download it, but it won't install.
The progress bar gets about 1/3 the way full then comes up with the triangle with the !.
I've tried it two or three times, did factory reset, have no idea what to do. Do I have to S-ON for it to install? If so, how exactly do I do that?

First, you cannot install an OTA when you have a custom recovery such as CWM installed. You at least need to install the original recovery image for your particular ROM before you try again.
Since the OTA in now available and official, why don't you just wait a few hours and someone will have a fully rooted version of the ROM that you can flash using CWM and not worry about losing S-OFF?
Let me give you a fair warning though, I'm not positive how Alpha set up their root, as I used XTC. BUT I know if you install the OTA with replacing CWM with regular recovery, you MAY be turned back to S-ON WITHOUT an option to get root back, UNLESS using the XTC clip. Enjoy.
Okay, I was afraid of that. I'm used to not even being able to see OTA's at all with CWM (came from Droid X), so it kind of threw me off.
Do you have any idea if the OTA is really any different from the leaked Inc S GB rom that's floating around? If, for some reason, it takes forever to get the ota rooted and they're not that different I may just install the leaked one I have.
Not trying to be a pain, just curious.
Thanks,

Check the Dev section. It looks like there is already a rooted, debloated version available.
I just created a PG32IMG.zip containing. Android-info text file and CWM recovery img renamed to recovery.img and placed it on root of sdcard
Booted into hboot and flashed it ...
Then I replaced the recovery with the stock recovery from the froyo ruu and flashed the stock recovery back....
Then flashed right back to CWM..
Never used any commands via windows or linux
I am going to install the ota and try to go back to cwm recovery and see what I can do from there.
I'll keep you guys informed

You will recieve the OTA update and get Gingerbread. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED BY MANY that you will NOT be able to -reroot. if you can that's because of the hboot alpha gave you. but if it changes ur hboot you need XTC clip to re-root. RMK already posted a ROOTED ROM of the current OTA. SAME THING, why chance root for OTA. THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME FILES. BUT WITH ROOT! just use his ROM. my 2 cents. do as you please

Hey, Instead of Don't do this, do that, do this, don't update that, If you want the release and don't want to lose root, install from this link. This guy(rmk40) spent some time to get this out to us. Awesome work! You won't lose root, everything works.

[q]remove clockwork recovery

is there a way to remove clockwork recovery? my wife's phone has s-off and recovery, but she wants to keep it stock and use the OTA upgrade.
You should really check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161411
I just flashed this over my stock froyo. Worked flawlessly, didn't lose any apps or anything. Removes all the VZW bloat and runs perfectly.
One thing to note, I believe you'll have to manually update your radio to the newest version but it's no big deal.
You can find the newest radio here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134451
From what I've read the radio that comes with the OTA is 20.27W.30.0811U_1.09.01.0622 unless someone can tell me I'm wrong.
i know all about that. but i still would like to know how to go back to stock recovery if possible.

You'll have to reflash the RUU and overwrite CWM with the stock recovery image once more.
If you don't mind me asking is there a reason why?
The only way I'd even consider doing this is if you're going to return the phone or if there's something wrong with it.
Why not just flash the official OTA that RMK put together and then flash the new radio?
It's EXACTLY the same thing minus the verizon bloat apps, heck it even runs faster than the stock OTA.
Do you flash the new radio like you would a new rom?

No, There's a certain way you have to do it. Pretty easy BUT you have to check the MD5 to make sure it's not corrupt, otherwise you'll brick.
put the P32IMG.zip file onto the root of your sd card. Boot into hboot by holding vol down and power on startup.
It'll search your sd card and then ask to update. press power to update. It'll reboot when finished.

The issue is that if you flash the new OTA you'll lose root for the foreseable future. Currently most are unsure if it will undo the s-off and in the process you may lose the ability to root until a new exploit is found.
Read the first thread that is stickied on this forum about the OTA.

There's an app in the android market called AFV (android file verifier) that allows you to check the md5 sum of files you download directly on your phone. I would suggest you install that app and make sure the md5 matches the radio file you downloaded before flashing the radio as changing radios has much more potential to brick your phone entirely that traditional rom flashing.
this is for my wife's phone. mine is running CM7. my concern is that if i go forward with a rooted gingerbread, i won't be able to return her to full stock recovery and rom later. i don't want to do anything to her phone i can't undo later. is there a path for that after upgrading to the rooted stock rom?

Of course, it can always be undone later on. However, if you do the OTA update then you will not be able to root until a different exploit has been found.
This is why we're trying to get you to go the route of the rooted stock rom.
Just follow the directions in the first 2 posts of that thread and she'll be as stock as she got the phone (Minus having root, it being faster, etc....)
what's the rollback if we want to go full stock. no root, no CWM - stock enough to send to verizon.
I understand about the wife issues. My widest inc2 arrives in a few day. My plan is root and stock debloated Rom for her. She won't even know its not stock. That way when she wants sense 3.0 I can give it to her. If she knows I never hear the end of it.

If your rooted,go to recovery and wipe cache and delvik, then go to advanced and fix permissions,if that doesnt help, wipe everything, but sd card and start over, this can probably be fixed without returning it.If your having problems with getting to recovery, then go through the bootloader, the old way, power off the phone then power on holding the volume rocker in the down position.
Just get latest ota from the rom page rename to ph36img.zip and put on root of sd card and let it install. That will put it back to stock. Will still be s off but sprint doesn't usually check bootloader for security status in my experiences especially since it's a hardware issue
