[Q] 2.3 keyboard REMOVE words?! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using the gingerbread keyboard's touch-to-save functionality, I've managed to save words that I don't want saved. How do I remove them?
I've tried clearing the keyboard's data, uninstalling and reinstalling it, and the words are still there like a damn plague ruining my phone!

OK so it turns out there's an app called User Dictionary Manager that let's you modify the list. But the question remains, WHERE is the list? I'd like to manage it without an app.

I think if you go into: Menu->Settings->Keyboard
there should be something called user dictionary or something with a list of words that you have saved

That dictionary only works for the HTC default keyboard as far as I can tell. Granted, my gingerbread keyboard is an app from the market (the only one, the one by steven lin). But it seems the 2.3 keyboard uses a hidden dictionary and has no means of removing added words, otherwise this question wouldn't be so common and still unanswered.

OMG. I'm trying to figure this out too! It's driving me nuts... I'll give that App a try though.

I have an HTC Sensation, but I found this thread via search. Anyone ever figure this out? When I go to the user dictionary in Language and Keyboard, the list is empty. Oddly enough I tried the User Dictionary Manager app listed, it pulls up a list of about 22 words that are in a custom dictionary somewhere. Problem is, the words I'm looking to remove that keep popping up that I accidentally added are NOT in that list. What the heck?

What rom you using? If its bugs you so much just switch to something better. Im running Team Twilight Shooter E3D sense 3.0. well actually the rebuild version (not an official release)

Hey I have the same problem and searched a bit. I manage to find this info, that the words are stored here:
/data/data/com.android.inputmethod.latin/databases/auto_dict.db
I haven't found time to root my phone yet, so I can't confirm it, but hopefully it helps.

HELP! Modifying Swype Dictionary?

Is there a way I can delete a word that is part of the swype dictionary? I never used the word,, so it must be pre loaded in the default dictionary.
When I type K - quick reply for OK, K.D. Lang comes up every time. How stupid is that?
Do you have a K.D. Lang in your contacts or have you e-mailed/received an e-mail from one through gmail?

Never. Hate the *****....
I don't know why it would show up then, it's not part of the swype dictionary. To delete it, press K and let it pop up then hit space. Press on the word like you're going to edit it so your choices come up then press the swype key on the bottom left of the keyboard. It'll ask if you're sure about wanting to delete the word from your dictionary.

I tried that and I can't delete it. Let me be more specific - when I type K. (with the period) it comes up. Not when I do K[space].
Could you please try the K. (with period) and let me know if you get it. Thanks.
So it does for me too. That's pretty funny.

Turning word suggestion off stopped that particular one from coming up after pressing "k" then "." but that doesn't delete it from the dictionary. Word suggestions still come up when you swype just not when you type individual letters. I know it's not a fix... But it's something.

SVOX Classic TTS Problem

Hi guys,
I'm using SVOX Classic for TextToSpeech. When I use the navigation in Google Maps everything works fine. But after aber 3-4 minutes of navigation the damn voice starts to read some weblinks. And it starts to spell every single letter, point, backslash...everything. Does anyone have the same problem?
I have the same issue.
It reads the xml file that comes from google for the voice guidance...
ok, at least now I know what's the problem. Any suggestions how to deactivate?
You'll have to wait for Nuance to fix this bug. I send in a bug report to "[email protected]" a few days ago, haven't heard back since.
Yall are doing better than me! When I try to use Gnav, and some other apps, with SVOX I get the "you must have tts installed" error message then the app closes. But some other apps work fine with it.?

Ahhh, Grace With a little pitch editing she sounds smoking hot, sometimes I enter sexual phrases in the box for her to read.
Did I say that out-loud? LOL
serious side, I get the same issue...
they havent released an update for a while now. either they are clueless and cant include ics support or they dont seem to care since they have my money. the version currently on the market does not work with android 4.x
Still no reply from the devs. I guess its time to down rank and move on. Anybody know of a good alternative that works with ICS?
I still have to test the TTS engine with maps navigation, but IVONA seems like a good alternative (and its free while still in beta):
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ivona.tts&feature=search_result
All languages: https://market.android.com/developer?pub=IVONA+Software
I'll update this post once I tested it with maps navigation.
Edit: works and the voice is so much better than the stock one, great alternative!

[Q] Adding words to stock dictionary 4.2

I have been using the new gesture keyboard and it is frustrating me that when I type swear words I cannot add them to the dictionary so everytime I use them I have to type them all out. Is there anyway to fix this?
If you go into:
Settings->Language & input->Personal dictionaries
You can select your personal dictionary and add words there.
I cannot add "F***" through this method. What do they think we are, bunch of kids.
I know there is an option to block offensive words, make sure its not checked. But i still think there are words you cannot store. Maybe come up with something else clever to say when you feel like cursing. How about "banana eatin cretin"?

I can add that word just fine. What is the actual error message you see?
If you go through the settings>language and keyboard you can add custom entries to the dictionary. I added a whole slew of filthy obscenities, and they come up just fine now via gesture typing.
Anyone wanna share lol? Can't be bothered to type them all in.

Shortcuts not going to home screen using Nova Launcher

I am not sure if this is a bug or just something on my end. I can't find anyone else having this issue or not anywhere. I have Nova Launcher 2.1 and just recently installed Nova Launcher 2.1beta1 and am having the same issues. I wanted to create a shortcut to a document as I have done in the past. I have a few folders on a page to the right of my Home page. For some reason, I can't add any shortcuts. I am using either ES File Explorer or FX. When I hold on a document, and choose "Add to desktop" it would say, "Short cut added to desktop" yet it's no where to be found. However, if I go to the "Touch wiz" launcher, all the shortcuts are there instead...
Any ideas?

Hey buddy, i am in the exact same boat...infact i have posted the same question about a day or so ago here and didn't get any response: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288152&nocache=1
Im starting to think that im the only guy that wants to home screen my bookmarks/pages, until i seen your post here. I don't get how such a great launcher can not have the ability currently to homescreen bookmarks.
But as you said, when you flip over to another launcher they are there. I really don't know how to fix it or if there is a fix, i hope there is...as i want to continue using Nova.

I am in a similar situation. I guess the recent update of Nova would have bug on it. The issue I have is that I tried to add a S Note shortcut to the homescreen, but it wouldn't show up. It showed up on Touchwiz or other launchers.
What I don't understand is why though there is almost nobody with knowledge of it anywhere. Its like its the forbidden subject that nobody can speak of. I even emailed the developer and got nothing back.
Its just bothersome to me that with all the power that droid phones have, Nova simply can not let one add a shortcut to the home screen from web browsing.

however- you post in the official feature request site, for which the admin responds sooner or later http://feedback.novalauncher.com/forums/145180-nova-feature-requests/status/606906 . Cam you post the link for the previous versions? I would like to do the same...thanks!
going to try this as well.. I think I found them:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389071
Checked now.
2.0.1 works without flaw. [can be Found in the official xda web post]
the latest release has included auto add shortcuts for newly installed apps-which obviously broke the shortcut add by app[fx ,es] features.

Override stock keyboard corrections

Ok so this is just an annoying pet peeve...but as one example, I often mistype the word "just" as "juat," and I've never clicked to save the word or have in my personal dictionary, but now the keyboard autocorrect stops changing "juat" to "just." Other words included are "thks" for "this," "garvage" to "garbage" and "lll" to "lol." To clarify, thks problem comes with the LG Optimus keyboard, it's not like the standard/stock ice cream sandwich one. Not sure exactly how to describe it...I included a picture.
Just wondering if anyone else had this issue as well...not a dire hazard but it's extremely annoying. If anyone has experienced this, what did you do? Again, these words aren't in the phones dictionary, they actually come up as spelling errors and are underlined in red while composing text.
Thanks!!

If you check Settings<Language and Input<SpellCheck, you could disable that. I believe an option to see the contents of your personal dictionary are there too. Just in case you accidentally added those words.
I myself am a sloppy typer, often missing letter in a word, so I've found that the stock 4.2.2 keyboard that Google offers in the play store, has a better correction engine. And it offers swype, which is convenient with our huge phones! I'd also look into Swiftkey as well, as that is also an amazing keyboard I've used with previous phones, although it adheres to a more rigid correction system. Just my two cents!

Unfortunately, I did not see the option for "SpellCheck" unless it is somewhere else. The issue I'm having is not with the personal dictionary, as I have checked in there and there is no entry for such words as "juat" and "thks." The issue is with the actual keyboard and how it corrects, because right now it is failing to correct some of these errors I make. The system does not recognize them as correctly spelled words, but the keyboard still lets them get through. Not sure if there's another remedy for this
