Best not to make a guess. Working in electronics and robotics majors, with programming, things don't go the way you want, especially with programming, scripting, ect. So my guess would be the day they post it ready.

Ya i guess ur right don't want to be let down. This is just the one thing ive always wanted on my phone

the phone is damn near a year old, we should of had this already!

Probably soon. I think it could end up in CyanogenMod 7 or 7.1 and someone will likely get it going in Sense shortly after.

Soon on Sense
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj1wMQ10xDA

I am sure that many people (including myself) bought this phone with the same dreams as you with HDMI, we have waited this long, another month cant hurt.

It will be here sooner than later. A developer has it done. I have tested it myself and it's pretty amazing. He is close to having an even better version, and close to releasing it publicly.
Right now he only has it coded for Sense Rom's, but you don't have to be rooted, and you don't have to have anything custom. It's a simple APK that just runs in the background and fully mirrors the UI.
It gets enough frames to play emulators, and it's close to having enough to watch video files that aren't supported natively (.avi, .mkv, etc.)
As one person above posted, they tested it with Hulu with good results. Another guy has tested it with Slingplayer and it looked great.
This app opens up so many possibilities. If you are on a sense based rom watch for it to be out soon.

If they video above is legit it seems fast enough even for the show her was watching id love to see a release soon

I want it too.
Gingerbread screen off animation is not available yet.
Well apparently CM7 has it.
I want it too! Will donate
It's not impossible, but its not feasible either.
Considering you're dealing with closed source and want to add opengl based code to a smali file, it could be tricky and definitely time consuming.
I'd advise just sit tight for a stable gingerbread firmware.
Cm7 has it because it is gingerbread...
They also added it to screen on so it must be transferable in some shape or form.. No idea how myself..
I have been wondering about this for days now, and I would love to see it on my vibrant
I would totally show that off to the best of my knowledge no phone has such a cool feature

Surely with so much hype over Gingerbread, this must have been found by someone?
I hope someone finds it soon and is able to implement it.
What really annoys me about this awesome feature is that an iPhone already has the ability to do it (albeit with a mod from the jailbroken community) after some guy spent 3 hours figuring out a solution. You'd think it'd be a lot easier for android phones (since it was originally, well, has been already designed for them) to support and implement it much better than an iPhone... well, that's just my opinion. I'm not too sure how easy it would be to make it work for our phones, and I'm more than happy to wait until someone wise can take the time to make it happen, but either way when it does eventually arrive you can count on me to add it onto every future rom I'll ever use.
ps. I'd link you all to the article about the iPhone mod but I don't have the rights to at the moment... sorry.
In norm terms
I wouldn't use trans, and I don't at the moment, no need to flash, just pure speed XD
But that said, I must admit, this I'll prob use Neat how it looks like an old analog television turns off, or this is what it makes me think of,

Hello all this is my first post so don't burn me so fast ok. Well i got tired of doing YOUTUBE searches on the G2 and clicking this month in search option and still people are still making videos on Unboxing/Temp-Root. But to help some out with flashing issues or anything else I made this.So with that said I just wanted to brush up on a couple of things that are current and going on with the phone. And maybe it will help some people out. For those who already are ahead of the game I tip my hat to you Im not a pro but if I was saying anything wrong Im sure you won't wait to correct me. I applaud for the time making this video however, REALLY? Information is knowledge and this video lacks information. Unprofessional and very amateur. In my opinion, this video was made just to get hits. Don't mean to burn so hard but let's at least have a script before shooting a video. Improv is not the best when you're lost for words. I would try again. It has potential. Get info, a script and a plan and you could have a very informative video on the "G2 baby"

Here is my opinion. I understand that this site is for developers and those with some knowledge of android development. Well with the rise of android os in the marketplace there will be an increase of casual mobile phone users who wish to learn more about their phones. For those that have an intrest in rooting their device and flashing custom roms without even knowing what root is, this vid would be great. Xda app is now mainstream. So for those of u who feel superior because of your immense knowledge and hacking skills, just remember that there are those of us on this site that rely on you for our mods. [Q] G1 has CM7 but we don't?

The G1, the original Android phone released to the public, my third or fourth cell phone, has CM7 support. It was released by HTC as Pure-Android. It has CM7 and is no longer updated by T-Mobile or HTC, but CM7 still supports it, so I was wondering how they have it without any Kernel releases and we need a Kernel, even though our phone is newer. Answers please?
[QUOTE=Original Android
Because they know that they aren't getting anything to work with, and know that if they want it, that have to build it. We are still receiving updates, so we have to wait. What'd be the point of building our own stuff, just to get official a month later? Plus, I thought Cyanonen stated that the cyanogen team was no longer supporting the g1 after cm6?
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G.
People are still able to Port over CM7 to the G1 whether Cyanogen and the team support it or not. Oh and btw, your statement made no sense.
Makes sense to me. If we built our own stuff now, it would be obsolete when we get newer official updates.
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G.
Basically, they devs are keeping you happy by waiting. So much work goes into CM7 or MIUI that its not worth it to even try right now...no, they devs are not lazy. There just saving hours and HOURS of work that they don't have. It will be 1000 times easier to port any aosp build (CM7, MIUI) once we have gingerbread source. Right now its not worth the effort.

What doesn't make sense about that? Let's say you wanted gingerbread cookies. They take an hour to make, and you need to go buy some ingredients (lets ignore for the sake of the analogy that you could just buy gingerbread cookies while you're there), and you're not sure if the recipe is any good. So, all totaled, lets say ~2 hours, and you don't know until you're done if they'll even taste good. Now, let's say it's also the case that your wife was going to be home in 2.5-3 hours, and was bringing some leftover Gingerbread cookies someone brought into work home with her. That fact would sort of render your plan rather futile and pointless, would it not? Even if everything worked perfectly, that's a lot of effort to have cookies marginally quicker than you otherwise could have, and there's still opportunity cost of everything you COULD have been doing in that time.

I'm quite certain the devs don't toggle between developing for the Epic and laying in wait to develop for the epic.
In a real world sense, we're better off that they wait until it's most efficient. They can get other thing done (both Epic wise, and Honey-do list wise), catch up on all the tv they want, etc. The average dev is probably only going to devote a finite amount of their precious little time on this planet. I'd rather wait a month or two, and get a super phone, then have everyone spin their wheels for 2 months, and then quit or be burned out just in time to actually do something.
As always, if you don't like it, the SDK is open to everyone, and Java resources are everywhere.

Your Thoughts

I was so excited when INC2 was rooted, and we had roms just waiting for us to try out. I really appreciate all the devs who bust ass to root our devices and build roms. I am currently running cyanogen nightlies and have no complaints, but I do have some concerns. I previously had a Droid 2, and really thought it had a solid selection of stable roms, and most were quite unique. When Liberty came out, I was amazed at how well it was thought out & designed. It really was creative and feature rich, whereas most other roms seem happy with just removing the bloatware and overclocking. At this point you are probably saying, "shut the hell up and go make your own rom, or go give the Liberty team a reach-around and have them build a rom for your phone". Good, cause I was thinking the same thing. So let me cut to the chase, Cyanogen is beast, and MIUI is cool if you want your droid to be an iphone. The other roms don't really spark much interest, they have different names, but are practically the same. Is there a lack of interest developing for the INC2? Seems like it, I would know, I am very important, and have a degree from ITT.
The phone hasn't been out long and the majority of people aren't able to root yet. A couple Fascinate devs just picked up DInc2's so once they're able to root there will be more support.
The thing has been out for what, a few months? Give it time.
I'm extremely happy with just MIUI and CM7. Best ROMs out there.

Here's the deal perm root has not been out long. We have a Lot of options available from the dev community considering.
There are more devs getting DInc2s in their hands as time passes. Some are even devving for it without having one.

looks like I was right, some of you were thinking I should go make my own rom. Reminds me of this one time, when I went to purchase a new car. After test driving it I told a few folks on my favorite car forum how I thought the car was lacking in new features. They all told me to go build my own car as well. Well crap, looks like I have some work ahead of me. Look knipp I donate to every rom dev that I have been impressed with. Roms have the potential to generate revenue for these devs, and consumer criticism helps with making a rom that people want to use. I think it is great that you know more about phones than I do, they should give you a medal for that, or a cookie, your choice. I am sorry that you found my poll offensive. For some odd reason I thought most people would see it for it it was, A JOKE. Next time I will use a more sarcastic font, if you think that might help.

I will gladly take the cookie
My main reason for being upset it is I know a few of these devs and they work hard and have rough lives at home..and don't ask for donations. Therefore criticism should be posted in a request not a demand. So as nice as they are, they don't always get the respect they deserve. I got a little too upset, and for that I'm sorry.

My one last thing is as you know how hard devs work, there is always drama in the forums. I know I get to serious, but I don't want what has happened in the dinc1 forums to happen here. So I try to defend them when I can. I read to far into it, but at least it was me and not a dev all I do is try and make apps work lol

Heya, believe it or not we are both coming from the same place. I loved my EVO 3D and hacked it to the max. However, has the months went by the phone's specs were no longer "flagship" quality. As a result, I went with LG OG after much and I mean much research. To your answer it is not empty but it just in hibernation until Jelly Bean is released, which is going to happen at any time very soon for Korean already has it (End of Jan I hope). So the devs are holding back releases for roms until JB but CM and ASOP are all in development as we speak.

^^^ I agree with what you said. In fact ive seen this.on many phones. Most of the blame is on lg for releasing the phone half ass. And also there wasent enough marketing put into the phone quite honest. By no means this isnt a flagship phone. Just because its labled as one. True the specs are nice but the fact that released with bugs and with ICS is complete bullcrap and a let down for sure. Further its just the nature of this forum to have to many chiefs not enough indians type of deal. Best way to learn anything is just to read up learn a little bit and have a clear mind and confidence u wont mess up your phone hahaha?

Space, I don't have a wide berth of knowledge to give you, as this is only my 2nd Android smartphone. That said, the development here is severely lacking. There were a lot of hotshots promising things they couldn't deliver early on (like this phone is exactly the same as the Nexus 4, lol). They say all the action happens in IRC but log in there. Try it. Back yet? Didn't learn **** did you? No one talks about development there. It's like a business meeting about more meetings. They talk about what they need to be developing.
In the end, I'm not helping, so I can't really complain, but it's slightly frustrating to have a beast of a phone that no one is improving. Least of all LG. When I've attempted to get information I've been ignored or given the "we don't really know" SLASH "stfu kid" response. If you find good development news I'd love to see it.

Many of us work, I work full time and have kids. Plus I have several other projects. If you honestly think nothing is getting done, maybe you should check github. Look at the amount of work being done towards cm10.1 for the lgog.
Not all development is ROMs and themes. Most of it happens before you see those ROMs and mods. Sure I could copy paste a rom together on my phone and call it something. Then everyone would think it was so cool, but the fact is it wouldn't be much different then what we already have. Will I build a stock based rom? Yes. Kernels? Yes. Aosp ROMs, yes. Some fancy aroma kitchen sink mod. Yup. Will I be doing this all within a week of getting the device and doing my research on it? Nope. There are like 20 sensors on this phone. Not to mention a ton of testing on kernels, what's bloat, what's a proprietary driver/lib vs source built. You need to remember that all of the development is done in peoples spare time. The phone is fast so no rush making it
Faster. The software is decent and has some decent feature without a lot of annoying issues so no rush there. Battery could be improved but thats mostly usage based. Nothing is crippled on this phone so there isn't exactly a huge rush to fix something on it. That is a good thing. We can pace ourselves and get more creative instead of fixing crap that should work already.
The biggest issue is not being jb+. That is being worked on daily by many people. I plan on helping as well but I agree with most of the devs on waiting for the korean source drop.
Give this phone time and it'll be crawling with flashy things.

To add on to what Jokersax said, there is alot of development going on, but not as roms. CM10.1 technically works, but there is a bug that wont allow your to see anything on it. Would you like somebody to post it for you to test? We have to get a device tree going, and see what mods from other phones work here, and what we need to chance to get the different roms we build up and going. I am fairly new on the dev scene, but I am working on a rom ATM, just about to get out of the testing phase for my first public build (in the dev section). b-reezy is also working on porting MIUI, removing LG software to make it almost completely AOSP, and getting a few themes on our device, and helping me learn more as I go. We have alot of devs, but between real life events, and the time to make everything work it takes time. How long does a take big companies to get updates out that have dedicated developers? For LG it has been over a year to update one generation of android. Just be happy we can update it before that. Also if you sit enough on IRC you can find stuff (I found a flashable korean rom for our phone that boots, is english, but doesnt have 3g/4g/wifi working and such, so it is not posted here yet), but alot of it is people working in their free time, and all my talk about my work is either in my what do you want in my roms thread under Q&A, where there is already 3 test builds of my rom, and some of us are talking individually, like joker right above me, and b-reezy both talk to me daily on Gtalk the last several days to about 2 weeks for each one of them. And I cant remotely do anything as good as they can. Just wait a month or two then you will be spammed with roms and kernels to use. Try hitting up the Nook Tablet thread and see how development is going on there- I have had it over a year and there isnt even 2 dozen roms for it. It is all a matter on how locked the device is, and the drivers and such for the phone. Also we may be able to port stuff from the Nexus 4 BUT THIS IS NO WHERE NEAR THE SAME THING! We have a locked boatloader, the nexus doesnt (really big difference for dev work), plus GSM vs. CDMA radios is alot harder to dev for it seems like in the beginning. It is annoying how people complain about dev work not being fast enough yet they dont even remotely understand how any of it works. FYI we will probably have Jellybean on our device before LG releases it. 4.2 is the primary concern for the bigger devs right now. IF ANYBODY CANT FIND OUT THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT ON IRC JUST ASK, OR EMAIL OR GTALK ME AT [email protected] FOR MINE AND OTHER DEVS LATEST WORK. LET THEM WORK ON IT IN THEIR FREE TIME FOR FREE, AND I CAN ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS WHILE I AM AT SCHOOL OR WAITING FOR PRACTICE TO START. If you payed these devs then you complain, other than that STFU. There is alot of stuff that goes on that we cant account for ahead of time.
Jeeze people, devs do this stuff as a hobby. Who are we to ***** that they don't do it fast enough, as one who has no programming skills I'm just grateful to the guys who do the work to make a killer device even better. I really don't mind not having cm10. I personally would rather have stock jb. This LG stuff isn't half bad. The only thing for me is I get easily bored. Agreed. Pressure should be put on LG to update and release source. This is what we need to get more things rolling.
That being said, even though this software is only ICS, this is my first Android that I don't mind stock. I've run all the versions of ZV9 so far and stock deodex with some tweaks runs wonderfully. I'm coming from Touch wiz and Sense systems where they skin and change everything. I'll always be a Vanilla head, but I'm just as stoked to see what LG does with jellybean. This stock software isn't that far from AOSP really.
Also I don't see what the hoopla is about trying to port Nexus 4. This phone has way more potential than that.

are you serious with this rant??
The Point of BUYING A TOP OF THE LINE PHONE IS FOR THE LATEST UPDATES ON IT!! I BOUGHT IT ACTUALLY BASED ON THE PRESS SAYING IT WAS GOING TO RELEASE WITH Jellybean/or it would soon after which has been far from the truth.
YET IVE actually owned all those other phone that you mentioned as well. And yes eventually they received some nice DEV, all but the Photon which left such a bad taste in my mouth that I would never buy a MOTOROLA again!
That was all 3 years back respectively. Wouldn't you think a company would learn from past mistakes of other manufactures? Especially when they are "debuting" a "flagship device" Bottom Line - Its not smart.. You have you opinion, but no need to make an excuse for a companies bad decision. That is just Fact my friend....
Edit*
One last thing actually as a consumer we are entitled to timely updates by LG as Big as a company as they are to put the correct resources in the right places to ensure its consumers who pay for there premium product to have the most up to date software!! It would also make dev a hell of a lot easier too.
It has not been long yet so i have a little patience left..

Fine OK you have a longer rant you win.
As a consumer were entitled to a working phone that works out of the box. If lg figured they could make stable software with ice cream sandwich so be it. The phone runs great on it.
And if youre gonna speak of being a consumer then you should save your rants for lg not xda. The devs are just doing what they can no need to get pushy

Yeah I know Joker, but the phone didnt hold my interest long enough!! I waited and waited, had to kick it to the curb!! Does Wimax work on the 4.2? Because the unlock bootloader and no wimax isnt an option

Pushy?
I cant even take you serious!! Bring facts*
As Stated its simply not good for business* Fact*. This is the Gen section so all rants apply here, regardless of your personal opinions/feelings - Maybe you can state your opinion and try not to tell people what to THINK. LOL I guess you would also fall into my statement about "Chiefs & Indians"??
IT GOES UNSAID THAT THE DEVS DESERVE CREDIT (They work with what they're given) - no need to constantly push that on people, obviously the devs are in control. To many of them there is some Incentive that also goes unsaid or unheard too. But to each their own!!
Hopefully the JB update for the Korean version means good news for us too!! Cant Wait*** I know there will be some good dev!

I agree with everything you said I just think its easier to be patient when things are kept in perspective. I too am disappointed lg didn't reach they're original promise of jb by December but I'm happy the phone works great and that lg didn't hurt the software TOO MUCH so there isn't problems.
And I'm glad you said you appreciate the devs work I just didn't wanna see the opposite and assumed you were being pushy because you said you agree with that guys post that sounded very demanding just cuz he couldn't see work done on irc.
