Yelp NOT updating the WP7 app anytime soon, but actively hiring for more mobile devs - Windows Phone 7 General

A question was asked on yelp's Facebook page, "Will yelp be updating the Windows Phone 7 app anytime soon??".
The answer: "Unfortunately, not in the near timeframe. Believe it or not, we're still a very small team and as such, our priorities lie with the platforms that see the most engagement (iPhone and Android) BUT, we are actively hiring for more mobile developers, so if you know anyone, please send them our way and I'll also tell our team we have some eager folks out there who'd appreciate an update."
Not the answer I was looking for. I thought I would share this information here to create buzz and/or maybe a developer might be looking for an opportunity with yelp.
I miss checking in, uploading images, and writing reviews on the mobile app for yelp that I had used previously on the iPhone and Android and hoping to get this updated on the WP7. Anyone else wanting an update for yelp?
Edit: Can someone please post this link (facebook.com/yelp/posts/110435869032330?notif_t=share_reply) I'm new here and it won't allow me to link it.

Maybe they should provide proper APIs like other social networks so we don't have to rely on their small team -_-

New Writers/Mods/Admins: Why are Windows Phone 7 articles tagged as Windows Mobile?

The answer to this thread is provided HERE in post #6 by egzthunder1.
The short answer is that it is a technical issue with the site that is being worked on.
I know I'm not the only person on this site who cares about this. For those of you who don't know, Windows Mobile is a completely different operating system than Windows Phone 7.
I mean know disrespect to the news writers. Let me make that perfectly clear. I really enjoy reading the articles. The only thing that really bugs me, as a Windows Mobile user, is that some of these article get tagged as Windows Mobile when their content is about Windows Phone 7. Considering these are two completely different operating systems based on similar platforms, one can see where this would get confusing and frustrating.
To give an example, this would be like writing an article on an Android application and then tagging it as a Linux app. They're similar, but different operating systems.
Below are examples of this from the XDA Developers Twitter feed.

These are from the past three days of tweets. Out of the five of them that are tagged as Windows Mobile, only one is actually for the platform.
I have brought this issue up before in the (requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins thread. Both times, it was ignored.

I'm not bringing this up to start trouble. I simply would like the tags to change to the proper operating system in the articles posted to the portal.
I'll flag this to the news writer team.

Thank you, CFB. I also get frustrated in seeing a post that I think might interest me, only to find out it is for Windows Phone 7. I have little to no interest in this as a windows mobile user, and have little to no interest in switching to a Windows Phone 7 phone at the present time.
I have been tweeting for this every day ......... Come'n boys ...just fix it ...

We know this is the case. I have been around since the days of the Wallaby, trust me... I know the difference between Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile. It isn't confusing to me or anyone in my team as we are all well versed on all of the above OS'. We are simply limited by the inability to tag WP7 articles as they should. The problem is that we have a limitation in the Categories that we can use in the Portal. Adding an extra category (WP7) with the current skin will break the formatting of the page and will make the articles and pictures start bleeding into each other. I have already tried it, which is why I am telling you this... the skin in the Portal needs a bit of tweaking and will be corrected eventually.
You were not ignored and I have been talking to the owners about this since WP7 forums started popping up on XDA as I knew this would happen. I will bring this up again with the owners and see if it can be changed.
BTW, please next time, don't assume that we don't know what we are talking about without asking us first (and I don't mean just posting in a thread, you could have pm'ed me if it was that much of a concern... I don't always check the General section). Thanks for bringing this up again.
Edit: Please change your Twitter message.
Right, as egzthunder1 says, it's a technical issue. I'll add this to the queue to be fixed ASAP.
.
The News Writers Team know about the differences between WM and WP7, as mentioned above it's a technical issue

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear it will be worked on. Sorry if the OP sounded condescending. I just reread it in the reply. I honestly didn't mean it to come out like that.
As for being ignored, though, I had no idea that anyone was looking into this. No one ever issued a reply about it either time it was reported. I wasn't entirely certain to whom the issue should be brought, so I posted twice about it in the requests thread.
I will edit the thread title and OP content once I get home to reflect this information. Also my Twitter status has been updated to reflect this news as well. I can't control when Twitsig will update the change, though.
Title and OP edited to reflect the answer. Again, sorry if anyone felt insulted by my poor wording. I assure you guys that I did not mean it in the way it sounded.
Now fixed
Our Portal Admin just let us know about modified the formatting of the Portal to allow for the fifth (and missing) category, so now and on articles will be able to be flagged as Windows Phone
Case closed
Thanks

[Q] Google+ for WP7 - any news?

I just installed Google+ on iPhone, but what I am truly wanting is G+ for my WP7. Anyone with news?
Seeing as the mobile webpage says "Also available on the Android Market and coming soon to the iTunes App Store" I wouldn't get my hopes up for a WP7 app anytime soon.
Is it out for iPhone?

it will never happen, my opinion is based on the fact that they list windows mobile as supported, and wp7 is not listed, they have not released google maps, and they have impeded Microsoft from releasing a better youtube app

Yeah, seems Google dislikes MS more than Apple. Considering MS is making Google pay royalties, maybe that is why.
My guess is, that the iOS market is simply too big not to support, whereas the minor userbase of WP7 is "neglectable" for google.

Well...that's one reason I say Google will have its competitors by the 'nads because of G+ becoming the dominant social site. People will want and need it on their phones and if their phones don't have it or will get it, people will adopt a new phone system.
MS needs to be really, really nice to Google so they can get G+. It is important. MS doesn't have the infrastructure enough to make their own social site like Google has.
Once G+ is "live", they'll probably have APIs available that allow third party developers to code G+ apps, though.
Doesn't Microsoft own or partner with FB?
Anywho my thoughts. I think Google and Apple have been secretly working together for a long time. Minus the lawsuits, I think competitively they work together. Or is it that Apple uses Google as it search engine? Anywho, I'm rambling.
Woo hoo let's spout completely uninformed rubbish about google hating wp7 because they put priority on the two most used smartphone platforms first!

From my experience Apple uses Yahoo as the default or main search engine in iOS. You can select Google or Bing as well. I switch mine to Google.

What's your major malfunction, pal. Nobody is spouting anything except you. I never said Google hated WP7. From *history* and from many reports Google gives MS a hard time and hinders them.
This is all I will say to you because I just have no room in life any more for people who want to start trouble and cause problems. From this point on you will be permanently ignored.

That's an unofficial blog. That list was in the news last week or so, and its not a list compiled by Google to say they are working on those items. A Google developer posted something on his blog about Google+, and a bunch of people commented on it and left him suggestions, and so the developer simply compiled the most popular suggestions (which is that list). No one said those things would ever be worked on.
Nothing official, and considering Google has not shown any interest in Windows Phone 7, I don't see anything in the near future.
G+ does work on the current IE version but in a basic mobile format
you need to go to https://m.google.com/app/plus

They will eventually release one because a social network has to have broad platform support to succeed, and with the App-Centric nature of modern smartphone OSes they cannot depend on a browser. People are starting to demand stuff like PUSH notifications and in-app chat functionality and a Browser is clearly inferior to an app when it comes to delivering that type of functionality.

Fortunately for right now, saving the page as a favorite and then pinning it to the start screen almost satisfies. The thing lacking, as you say, is push notes.
another thread about this useless wannabe Facebook, google only did this to get back at FB for rejecting them and of course to try to gain this ridiculous monopoly over the world. what's worse? they don't even give a **** about peoples privacy and safety.

Is there a programing App/website out there for Non Programmers?

I've not seriously programmed since I was 10-12 years old and Peek'd/Poke'd my way through in BASIC on my C=64. I'm wanting to create an app to use on my phone and even release into Marketplace for others. It's a general Ballistics program. I've noticed there is nothing out there that I can find for the hobby or competitive shooter. If someone else wants to take up the challenge, please feel free. But, if not, I'd be willing to do one if I can find the programs to help with this. Also, does anyone have any books or other sites that will explain the programing languages needed to make a current (Mango) compatible app.
Thanks
JTMcD.

iHeartWP7: show developers that there are enough WP7 users waiting for their apps

Let's help our beloved WP7 platform to get some more attention!
Considering the fact that WP7 is relative young we already have a good choice of solid apps, services and games in our marketplace.
But I'm sure most WP7 users are still missing some major players on our platform!
iHeartWP7 created a website an a twitter account devoted to that purpose!
Twitter:
http://twitter.com/#!/iHeartWP7
Website:
http://www.iheartwp7.com/
Let's join our forces and get WP7 recognized! The more developers we convince, the stronger WP7 will get. The 3rd major smart phone OS is already here we just have to show them!
Follow iHeartWP7 on Twitter it's enough to re-tweet the tweets you like!
Quote from iHeartWP7:
I Heart WP7 was created with the goal of convincing developers to design their apps for Windows Phone 7. This website lets you easily contact the developers in masses and request that they bring their app to WP7.

[Project] View GeoLocations with Augmented Reality

hello forum people, well basically it’s like the Tittle says, I am currently developing a application that can save GeoLocations, then view them in augmented reality, it’s a school project and i wanted to see if someone else had developed something similar With "Windows phone 7" I’ve been searching allot of examples and stuff to get the main idea, but still not much luck, there are lots of good Android apps (like the ones I’d like to find) to guide myself in developing this app.
Project description.
-Must save geolocations with a desktop application developed in C# with visual Studio 2010.
-Augmented Reality app developed with Visual Studio (WP7), must display the text in the Geolocation with a short description.
little example.
Save a geolocation of a building, in that building there will be a meeting at 8:00 PM, the augmented reality app must show the building, the distance in Meters and the meeting description.
If someone knows of a similar project, or likes the idea post your comments, this is mainly for help, I am a bit stuck in my developing.
Actually I’ve been just testing different types of augmented reality apps and codes.
What about Nokia City Lens?
I cant try this app yet, because in mexico is not yet released. but could be a good Example, cant view the code thou.. =(

I'm from Mexico, you can "suscribe" to Nokia Beta Labs (betalabs.nokia.com) and you can get the app.
Sorry if you want some code, it is a Nokia closed project.

I can refer you to a little app that the company i am working with, ARLab, developed thanks to our SDKs, it's called ARPicBrowser. It's a bit similar to what you're talking about. It's not the same but it could bring you some insight. It is also open source, which is why i thought it would help you out. Here you can access the source code. By the way, if you're interested in augmented reality development you can check out our SDKs. You might find them useful.
Thanks!
Right now im at school, with the school Desktop PCs I can't test the code, but when i arrived home i will check on this, Thank you.
