[Q] Can someone suggest an app? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife recently asked me about "log me in" for her phone but the app is a bit expensive. Is there one that works just as well and is free or at least cheaper?

TeamViewer is excellent.

I'm not seeing Team Viewer in the market.

Could have sworn it was in the market.
Go here instead. This is the developer's website.

Yes TeamViewer is probably one of the best alternatives out there to LMI.

If you have Windows 7/Vista/XP Pro or 7/Vista Ultimate, you have Remote Desktop as an option. If so, Remote RDP Lite has worked very well for me. You can only store one connection profile at a time, but otherwise it seems to be fully functional. There's also a Remote VNC Pro w/Ad if you want to go the VNC route.

please, don't give me a ****storm for just making a suggestion.
but piracy on android is very easy

A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.

Email me if you are interested. I also like log me in but don't want to pay 30 dollars

I get free apps from a source I won't list here but if I enjoy it, I buy it. Titanium Backup, Slingplayer Mobile, etc etc. As for remote desktop viewing I'll try both and let you know? lol

hah applanet is the best. a bunch of free apps. applanet.net. i rarely use it though. only on apps that i think are overpriced for the wrong reasons (enter logmein)

most apps have a free version so you can try it out. and if you uninstall a paid app within the refund window, you get your money back automatically.
I assume you know these things, and are just making excuses for stealing.

just use team viewer i use it everyday and works great!

Ban stick for those that mentioned piracy in.... 4.... 3.... 2... 1....

I tried skybook and mobilizer. neither worked very well. the basics were there but they both have a long way to go. the skybook app always failed to close properly and mobilizer never seemed to open properly.
This is not really an app, but some have suggested using the facebook page for iphone. I believe it is something like iphone.facebook.com or so.
EDIT: Na, I take it back. This certainly won't help you. I just tested the iphone facebook and did not like it. It seems that it uses resolutions for the iphone and everything looks big and blurry on the HD. Besides, that was no really what you were looking for anyway.
Here you go: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=16698519604
If you are going to use Facebook on a PDA, just use "m.facebook.com"... It is a web page obviously, but is formatted better for smaller screens...
Theres one being developed by this very site!

Fool the Phone?

Is there any way to fool the phone into believing that it's on a sprint device? I know this is an odd question but here's why - I got someone over on the sprint side to download an apk and I uploaded it to 4Shared:
http://www.4shared.com/file/pvBPY0li/blackboard.html
It's called Blackboard and many universities use it for online classes to post notes and general class info. The only problem is that it's a sprint only app, but the program is not a sprint program and thus the Sprint restriction is pointless and annoying. The app installs and runs, but when I select my school, it says that I'm not on a sprint device and thus it wont go any further...
So, is there any way to trick my phone into believing that it's actually on a sprint network instead of Verizon? What about with the root (of which I got)?

Sprint most likely is paying a fee to have access to the app which is why it is locked to Sprint service by the blackboard company.
Ref:
http://www.sprint.com/landings/blackboard/?ECID=vanity:blackboard
Most likely something that could be hacked to get around it, but I don't think you should be posting a link to it. It shows up in the market place if you are using Sprint as a service.
I provide support for a Blackboard system. They have a dedicated Android app currently in Beta, and you should also be able to use your institution's Blackboard web site in the default Android browser.

Yeah, I've had Blackboard lurking around my Astro app-backup for over a year now. I'm sure they wanna sell it to end users who aren't covered by an institutional license, like they're license it to Sprint.
You could try uploading a sprint prl. Not sure how hard that is on our phones. I activated my vzw bb 8830 on us cellular network no probs but i did have to load prls.

Tricking the phone would be a great idea because sprint has a fairly decent turn by turn app that I would like to use.
You can use the Sprint navigation app off the evo. It works very well.

Really, because when I install the sprint navigation it says it is a 14day trial. When I use it on my Sprint Hero, it never asks for anything. It just works.
I wouldn't mind having the blackboard app either. Its okay to navigate on the browser but an app would be cooler.
Part of my job is assisting in administering and supporting a Blackboard system. There's a beta Android client available that's quite good.
If your educational institution is accepted into the beta program, they'll have access to this application and will surely be looking for testers.

I dl'd Blackboard mobile learn from the market and found my school. It then tells me I'm not on a Sprint device. If there is another app to dl, please tell me where I can get it. Thanks
Same here,
Id love to get a blackboard app on my phone.
Being a beta tester would be awesome... my school uses blackboard for almost every class and would be very useful to me... Where can I sign up?

Blackboard Mobile Learn also has to have server-side support enabled by your educational institution.
Good news!!!!
The Blackbord app was hacked to run on any phone!

[Q] controlling your phone from your computer

So I searched but couldnt find the answer. I am looking for the app that lets you control your phone from the computer. Its not screencast or remote desktop. It was an app that would give you an IP address to go to from your computer and up would pop the home screen of your phone. I charge my phone in another room and run wifi tether and would love to see whos texting me and be able to reply among other things without having to get up every two minutes. I had it before and flashed a rom and thought that titanium backup had run but it didnt so I lost it. Thanks for any help.
Well I would recommend Remote Desktop (I know you mentioned it), it is an awesome app that I use all the time, it lets you send sms messages. I think the one you are thinking of is called PicMe. It's ok, pretty sluggish IMO. I really think Remote Desktop is the best app for this type of thing.

Good thread. There's an app called Browsix that has a built-in sms client. Check it out.

webkey is exactly what you're looking for. When i used it I didnt see any lag. Kind of wish they had an option to alert you on ur computer screen when you got a text but maybe I just didnt select the right settings

Its as secure as your password. Set your custom login and password and you should be fine.

I have it and have tested it to work with the Evo.

[APP] FBMetro, a Mini Facebook App

Currently I am building and shortly will be done with my Facebook Metro App for Windows 8 and the idea is to have 2 UI's.
1). Full Screen w/Most Features.
2). Half-Sized w/Basic features so you can use your favorite App's while still accessing your Facebook features, feed and etc.
Question is, what would YOU want added to either UI?
Well u should post some pictures of the program so we can see what it has and hasnt so we can give you opinions When its really upload it and i will test it for sure
After or on Tuesday, I can share the design as I am scheduled with a MS Engineer to help my App have the final touches and tested as well and hopefully first Facebook App in the Store.
Also thanks for responding.

Please implement off line messages because the Messaging app won't let you send them
Looking forward to FBMetro! (Suggestion to call it MetroBook instead! )

Offline messages? As in check for personal messages and grab them and save them for no-connection viewing and respond while offline and when/if connection available automatically send?

Well FBMetro is really just the project name, Facebook already has an App registered as Facebook Metro.
The half-sized mode is in fact the snapped mode... I have included old-SS of which the actual App does not represent anymore as of my meeting with my Microsoft sponsor who wouldn't permit me to go any further with the design, even though I was nowhere near done lol.
Note: Job Discovery is my other App for Win8 and is actually currently a free WP7 App. In the photo you can see that my Facebook App can be used by other Developers to post information from their App using my pre-established Auth to the end-users Facebook Account. Yes, they can actually implement my App to be used by theirs.
nice, where can I get it?
It's coming, very soon!

hy. I just want to know, when it will be available? could we download it from windows store? I'm a really big METRO UI fan, and I would be happy if I can use facebook in this way.

I am actually working with someone from Microsoft to get the App Certified, I had to really redo A LOT of the UI as they have made the standards really rough.
Right when it's ready, I will immediately provide the link.
Thanks for your interest!
