[Q] base desire rom minus bloatware - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a custom rom out there that still retained all the stock desire look and feel minus the bloatware like latitude, news, quick office (i'm going with docs to go), plurk, teeter, stocks, peep, and friend stream?

Flash a rooted stock ROM, then remove those things yourself and make a backup?

Hi Getan,
What I did is to get the ZIP file of a ROM and simply use 7ZIP to navigate to the system/app folder and delete what I don't need.
This seems simple enough for me and also you can copy some .apk files there. After this procedure just flash the ROM. Hope this helps

Thanks, bedobela. But don't you have to sign to ROM?

Download leedroid2.3d, then use winzip to take out the system files you don't want, I did it to get rid off footprints, teeter and some other stuff and it works fine. You'll probably have to check in both the system apps file and i Think it was date/apps files as well.

How to add apk files into a rom

hey i want to add some files like htc clock.apk and calculator.apk to N.S.A rom, so how do i go about it. Any help
Thank you.
unzip the ROM, add them to the app folder and rezip it and then flash the ROM (making sure the recovery utility you're using allows non-signed ROMs)
i am using clockworkmod recovery, does it allow flashing unsigned rom??
Thanks
unquestioning

Sorry, what does that means.
Yes, you have to remove the signing checking option in it (under advanced or something, have a play about)

Hi all, i'm a new user and i have some trouble adding .apk's into cooked roms.
In particular, i'm trying to add some .apk into /system/app of InsertCoin Gingerbread 1.0.5
I have unzipped the rom, add those apk's, zipped again but when i flash it from recovery it says "Can't Find Update Script".

Don't(!) unzip the rom. Just open the archive using 7zip or winzip (or something like that; right-click zip and choose 'open archive'). Then just move apk to correct folder. If you're taking apk's from another rom, open that using 7zip as well. Then, drag the program from one rom to the other. When you're finished and want to flash the rom, make sure you've disabled 'signature verification' in recovery (it is an option in recovery).
Thank you, i was able to flash my first "modded" version with different boot/down animation, Teeter game (i love it) and Titanium Backup
The only thing i was not able to do was Root Explorer, i tried to put it in system/app and in data/app but when i flash rom it doesn't appear in the drawer.
Any suggestion?

I have been learning how to do this in the last few days and have had similar issues as you. I can get some to install fine and appear in the drawer but not all.
I have only been adding the apk's to system/app and not data/app. Should the apk's be added to one of these, both of them or another folder completely?
Can anyone help the two of us out?
I used apk swapper but all the apps are not working

Delete system apps

Hi, I would like to create a list of the files not essentialy needed by a rom.
i.e. could I uninstall Blur*.apk files in /system/app folder if i don't use motoblur?
I use adlxmod rom and i would like to clean some system apps like motoblur ones.
could you help me to create a list of not essentiall apk's?
thanks. please collaborate

thanks, please use search
If they don't automatically run in background, there is no need to delete them. Defy's rom is spacious.
And instead of delete/uninstall, you can just rename the .apk so you can easily get them back when necessary.

[Q] Modifying the apps in a ROM

I notice if you unpack the zipped ROM file you get a load of folders including one containing all the APKs in the ROM. If for instance I didn't need certain APKs like Twitter.APK can I just delete that APK and rezip the ROM and flash it?
Similarly if I wanted to use the Skyfire browser instead of the one provided in the ROM could I just delete the browser.apk and replace it with skyfire.apk?

Don't unpack it. Just open it and delete the Twitter.apk with WinRar or 7zip, then flash it.
System apps like browser are not recommended to be deleted (errors will come). Just install Skyfire then and it will popup for you to choose which browser you want to use for any thing.
I could be wrong, but don't you have to sign your "new" ROM before you can flash it? Even if you have signature check disabled in CWrecovery?
And if not, what is the meaning of signing a ROM?

If you want to go pro check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246 you can cook your custom ROM very simple

How to locate required items to make .apk work (lib, framework, etc)

I've been looking into manually installing some .apk apps on a nosense custom rom.
Mainly system linked .apk files.
Next to having the apk file for installing an app how do i find the rest of the files required for the app to work?
Normally the system apps have many more files spread over the libs, framework, addon, etc folders.
Trying to findout how to locate those extra items.
Thanks for the help.
You mean like the Sense Camera? No one has ported sense stuff to non-sense ROMs before, most likely before HTC Sense is closed source.

that's kinda tricky to explain here, you should look for some guides out there... it isn't very easy believe me
was hoping there was a way i can use a program or so to check the apk data itself for the files it requires.
Use to mod some games and inside one of the data files you'd always find the dir and link to the files it's attached to.
Looking for something like that basicly.
If i were to findout for example which lib files the polaris office.apk uses i can push those to system (together with every other file it needs to work) and it should endup working just fine.
with nosense i actually mean what RENOVATE and Revolution HD call it when they actually use sense+ but then remove most of the sense junk and run a launcher over that. So any htc files will work just fine, they only need to be installed with every background files too.

Restore system apps?

Hi, I have installed custom rom Le1PRO_US_X800-ROW-v48RL-CUOCO92-5.5.011S on my LeTV and I uninstalled few system apps like browser, calendar, bugreporter, and now I want to bring them back. I unpacked a system.img from .zip and extracted a apks from system/app/***/ folder, and pasted this to my phone via app Root Browser, but I don't know what to do next to bring this apps back, because I still don't see this apps installed.
Flash the whole ROM zip without any wipe, then remove the apps you don't want when it fully boots.
