Full complete tablet backup using NVFLASH/ APX mode in the works - A7 Android Development

ElocityA7 has the option so far in the kernel, to reboot into APX mode, enabling support for full control of the tablet memory.
and in cases where needed, a full partition restore is possible.
it will even be possible to re-partition the device to suit other needs if you wish.
right now im working on a image for full recovery, but as i can only activate using a kernel with support and using a adb connection. any information on the button combo to activate it is appreciated..
otherwise its less usefull in a "bricked" situation, if we cannot start directly in APX mode.
but its confirmed for now, that the system partition is 573MB in size, and i made a full dump of it.
Advent Vega distribution pack is used for binary compatibility on windows to install it for now, but it should work just as good from linux, as Nvidia distributed the same applications for linux.
If you already got the APX setup in place,
the magic "reboot" method is entering this in a shell:
echo 1 >/proc/naz10_diag/force_recoveryand the device goes into APX mode.
ill update this thread when i know more, or got a key combination to activate directly without use of the shell command. (which is very important too)
you can read more about the APX mode here

EDIT; sorry, wrong thread.. can't delete it >.<

yes, i think this thread started it.. and i do have a full backup, but im not flashing it so if its fully working or not, is waiting for a hardware trick to open APX mode without software.. if its not possible im not testing unless its broken somehow..

sorry, i did NOT actually read more than the CODE part LOL
thanks, thats a nice trick, so yes, you can do a lot of magic and still return it to a full state with the toothpick..
so like on Folio AC100, they installed debian linux and ubuntu..
in our case we can at lease play with repartitioning it.. at least resize..
but you can recovery whatever change, as long as it works..

[Guide][TOOL] FASTBOOTROOT (deprecated)

(DEPRECATED)
I no longer support or care to support this is someone wants to take over and deal with this and the complaints go for it. It has not been tried on the 2.2.2 version of android in case you want to try it.
Tired of all those funky ways of rooting? Wanna just push a button and be rooted?
Guess what I've got something for you.
Introducing FastbootRoot (patent not pending) for the virgin mobile optimus v
FastbootRoot was designed with simplicity in mind. The easy to use ui makes rooting your lg optimus easy and quick without all those adb commands. It takes the guess work out ( is this right, what does he mean by that? ) of rooting your phone.
Features:
flash a custom recovery
this feature only flashes a custom recovery without rooting your phone giving you the ability to back up your current system without root. I put this in here in case of needing to return the phone for warranty matters
flash the entire shebang
This flashes a new boot image, a new system image*, and custom recovery.
Revert to stock
thanks to destundead we now have the stock system image and boot combined with my stock recovery we are good to go
New experimental install windows xp fastboot drivers
My goal is to fully automate this process and to make this as painless as possible for the new users. This new feature is untested and will either work or it won't. Give me some feedback if it does or doesn't.
--------------------------How to Use--------------------------
Download fastbootroot from here and place it on your desktop.
Download the usb drivers from here
On your phone turn on usb debugging by pushing menu, then settings, then applications, then development, and then usb debugging.
Install the drivers ( I find that rebooting after the drivers have been installed will install a whole new set of drivers. I recommend this method)
unzip fastbootroot and inside double click the fastbootroot file. Make your selection and your done.
Here's a video on using it and a little explanation
watch it here
WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS:
no need to install usb drivers
Enjoy this and remember this works fully on windows 7 and I tested it myself. No matter what there's always room for user error though in which case I take no responsibility if things go wrong.
PROBLEMS AND COMPLAINTS
Some people are reporting problems like drivers not installing or other things. First off if you have a problem you need to state exactly what operating system you are using (windows 7, windows vista, or windows xp).
This only works with the virgin mobile optimus v. Make sure you have the virgin mobile optimus v (not a optimus t, m or a picture of the v pasted on top of a w490)
Tell me what you did exactly don't lie. I know from experience when someone says, 'I did this I definitely didn't do that', whether or not they are holding something back. The more info you can give the better if your holding something back that's gonna delay the process.
This is free. I ask for donations but they aren't required at all. So when your asking for more things remember this is free.
Like my work donate to me herehttps://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=FEP8NQ8J49MX8
*the new system image is stock with root, flash_image and busybox installed

yep the only thing that you gotta do is download fastbootroot and the lg drivers. It will take care of everything else for you. I will say that I've tested this and my earlier variant of it quite a few times. I even made a video for the other one.
Downloading this now. will give it a try. Thanks!

This does not seem to be happening. How can I abort the fastboot procedure so I can reboot and try again?
--bornagainpenguin
Hello? Please someone be there who can help me!
The detection sequence you describe did not work, Windows is not finding the drivers properly. Is it safe to reboot the machine while in fastboot? Can I unplug the USB without bricking my phone?

If nothing has flashed, I'm sure you're fine. It dependant on how far it got .
Would op mind posting the manual way to root through fast boot?

yes your okay to unplug your phone the process either works all the way or not at all I'm confused as to why it didn't install the drivers though. I guess I'll just have to add them to the batch

I removed the battery and the phone restarted without issues. Not sure why things did not go the way they're supposed to--could it be because I had the drivers from the ROMTOOLS package installed before? NOTE: Prior to trying this procedure I uninstalled all of those and rebooted before installing the drivers linked here.
Another thought, OP says he is running Windows Seven; I am on Windows XP. Could this have anything to do with my trouble?
--bornagainpenguin
UPDATE: I tried installing the drivers included with the ROMTOOLS package and my phone was recognized again. No luck when trying to run fastboot. Not sure why this is happening or why I am unable to use the drivers OP linked to. They seem to install when clicked but the system doesn't seem to think the drivers apply to this phone for some reason...
Okay what happened was your fastboot drivers didn't install correctly I'm in the process of uploading a video to show you how to install the fastboot drivers.
I wrote this while before your last post yes there is a problem with windows xp. It doesn't download them like it would on windows 7. I can test all day long on windows 7 but not on xp. The method in the video should work for xp users

I appreciate the effort, but unless the video is closed captioned it may not do me much good. I am hard of hearing (one of the reasons why I picked this phone was its high T4 rating which works well with my hearing aids and telecoil adapter --think headphones for hard of hearing people) so cannot always hear audio on videos very good.

I've integrated the fastboot drivers into the next release for windows xp I need a beta tester before I release this.
Does this just root our existing system, or does it install a whole new rooted image (requiring us to reinstall all of our programs and settings)?
I have XP, by the way. If it just roots, I would be willing to beta test (but if it doesn't work, if it doesn't work, I want to be able to get back to where I was as my phone works well).
This is F*****KIN GREAT!!!! Thanks!!
I'm having bootloop issues and I see a post here which suggests that one way to fix the situation is with fastboot. Do you know if fastboot can help me? If so, how?

[Q] Psfreedom 0.3.1 recovery help

I bricked my ps3 a few months ago trying to revert from DEX to CEX but I forgot to clear the QA flag after downgrading, and I just got hold of a Desire HD, flashed the psfreedom 0.3.1 recovery and tried to boot to factory service mode but no luck, keep on getting the 3 beeps, is there an app to use for FSM? it's not easy to get a FSM dongle like E3 here and I don't trust ordering online. Any help appreciated

it's a recovery released a few years ago for some devices with a certain qualcomm usb controller that could be manipulated in order to fool the ps3 into factory service mode and flash a different firmware and bring back linux capability (feature was removed in firmware versions over 3.56), there are some programmable usb sticks and even some scientific calculators that do the trick, on the hd2 there was a kernel and a script that made my life easier but I have since broken the damn thing and haven't been able to get my hands on one in a fair price (or the first HTC Desire).
Anyhow, if you haven't heard of it then you probably can't help me

that stuff is from 2010, have you checked that the partition still works with newer hboots? it has been a lot going on since 2010 in these forums...if your device boot in hboot try flashing CWM or 4EXT recovery and see if it revives.

my problem is that I can't put the ps3 in factory service mode, I'm not trying to flash a rom or a kernel or something, for that I will flash twrp as I like touch recovery from 2013 lol, the recovery itself appears to be functional, I haven't got the slightest idea if it actually works (communicate with the phone's usb controller and give the command to the ps3 to go to FSM) cause you mentioned that hboot changes might affect it. Being s-off could I revert back to a 2010 hboot? I don't mind full wiping my phone, after so many years of testing I ended up using only a few apps I actually need and all the rest is either on my sd card or on the cloud.

Just fixed it!! the recovery I had was apparently a TEST one, I tried another/newer version I found somewhere else and it worked like a charm...
Thanks mate, you didn't exactly tell me what to do but your hboot mention gave me the idea to try and find another version of the recovery -if possible- and I did it. Had a HUGE piano black (it's the first and most beautiful model of ps3) paper weight laying in my room for months, now got it to working again!

Full backup of one AFTV and restore on another
It's great to see that modstore was able to clone an AFTV.
I dont understand what modstore is saying here:
modstore said:
I'm not sure if anyone has tried backing up one Fire TV and restoring to another, but I just tried it, and all seems good.
Doing the restore though, changed the registered account to that of the backup. So I'm not sure if it would have been registered properly, probably not. But I changed it to the account I wanted it registered too, and all seems good now.

Changed what registered account? Does this mean that the new AFTV was setup to have the same amazon account as the backed up AFTV before the restore took place on the new AFTV?
I really want to be able to clone. It sounds like its possible, I just want to avoid the trial and error if possible. I'm sure others are interested in the procedure too.

Yes, from what he said that the registration info went over with the backup. If you want to clone machines, then this will work.
he didn't want to clone machines, so he had to put in the correct register info on the machine he put the backup on.

There might be a way to make it trigger the initial Registration page after doing a restore of a clone. I'll add it to my list and maybe come up with a special update.zip that will make it happen.
So if you have a FTV set up with xbmc etc you can make a direct copy of it into a stock FTV, thus cloning it as said above?
I've looked around and can't seem to find what to do. I've used adb before but have never ran into this issue yet seems so silly.
When I type "su" in adb shell i get this error "system/bin/sh: su: not found"
I've googled and all I can find is reinstalling the superuser on the phone... I'm trying to unlock the boot loader

Yea figured it out. I'm on 1.3.0 this sucks. I'm trying to sell my amazon box to get a nexus player. Amazon has no idea how to run a home media center.

Guide from AFTVNEWS.
I got recovery to work everything was fine I could reboot from recovery back to recovery again (CWM) but after I did factory reset in CWM it gets stuck on amazon logo.
The reason I did factory reset was because of Error.7 in CWM I had that few times when flashing different roms on different phones/tablets
sometimes getting older cwm or simply factory reset would help.
So now it gets stuck on Amazon logo the keyboard trick to get back into CWM does not work anymore.
Anything else I can try before I call up amazon hoping they replace it ?
I can honestly say if you followed rbox's custom recovery install guide, used his recovery image, and made sure the md5 matched, you shouldn't have had any problems.
Out of curiosity, do you have an external hard drive plugged in?

Yea I did follow instructions correctly. And no I do not only had the usb keyboard plugged in so I could get into recovery.
Almost every device I rooted w/ custom recovery gave me Error 7 tablets phone etc.. I seem to have bad luck with that error lol.
Since I was on the very last step.. flashing rom -> getting error 7 grr

I think cwm still has some issues. It works fine for installing rbox's pre-rooted ROMs, but I can't backup my ftv. It always errors out.
Was this the first time you've gone through cwm install? Did you try installing one of his custom ROMs and then got that error? Did you verify that your recovery download went okay? Check the md5 against what's listed on the site.
I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm just trying to delve deeper to see what may have caused your error.
(I'm tech support, so I've always got more questions to ask )

Yes sir everything was checked few times. Bunch of times made sure even file size is correct etc...
I did install recovery however at first when I had wrong firmware I installed via ADB SHELL then I Downgraded to unlock bootloader after I downgraded I installed recovery via adbfire I think newest version .17 however it was still the newest firmware of recovery anyway.... and yepp it was stock pre-rooted latest firmware that ends with "0" that did not require the fire tv boot menu.. but now I am thinking if I had the boot menu I could have got into recovery! so AFTVNEWS mis-lead me on this part... the bootmenu would be great on all firmwares actually.

I'm not sure about adbfire anything. I do all mine through Linux/android terminal/windows command line. The boot menu works on firmware 51.1.4.0. When it's sitting at the logo, have you tried connecting via adb, just to see if it initialized enough to poke around? (not sure if it works that way with ftv, but I'd try, regardless)

As far as I saw I could only connect via adb at least when in recovery mode.. otherwise it was a no go... anyways thanks for helping me out. I think there is no rescue in this situation by somehow fixing it. I mean just wanted to have few features like swap storage with a flash drive and have newest FW. But that's ok.
Thanks for your time!

About the possible Lollipop ROM for FireTV,is there a way to get the latest qualcomm Adreno 320 drivers like [email protected] from another device for flashing in proper FTV directories since it is meant for Lollipop?
I am hoping for the fix for Dolphin to be runnable and Reicast to no longer cause reboots,as well as better performance for things like Mupen64Plus AE.

Tab S(8.4) LTE T705 stuck at Samsung logo while updating to marshmallow

Hi,newbie here.My device isn't rooted.Yesterday, I downloaded Marshmallow update 6.0.1.At 43%,I started the update.I thought it will complete in that.you know, the logo and all came.I watched it updating till 85% then got on with my work. Then,I felt a vibration.I saw it rebooting and then it showed samsung logo in all white. It wouldn't move forwards after that.I heard 3 vibrations periodically. The 1st one...4 sec gap...and then the 2nd & 3rd vibrations in quick succession. And it would go on infinitely until the battery discharged.I plugged it in the wall charger and then I noticed the charging has also become very slow.I left it for charging at 6 AM and till now(12:14pm),its just 58%.I read in a thread about force restrat and quickly going into recovery mode.I wiped the cache partition hoping it would solve the problem but it didn't. I couldn't understand the rest of the part,so I didn't try.I selected power off option and right now it is charging.I have important data stored on the internal storage so I fear doing a factory reset.I also have fingerprint lock on it so I have no idea how to connect to PC and use.I got no idea about flashing roms.Is there any possible way to revert back to lollipop? I just want my data before I do something. Please help. Also,I had some pics(only pics) in the private mode.I also need to recover that.
Yea your going to have to flash a stock image via Odin.
Your going to have to do some reading on XDA, no way round it, there is no quick fix with a few buttons lol.
Here is the general flow, read on XDA to fill in your gapps.
1. Find load Samsung USB drivers
2. Find latest version of ODIN, Samsung flashing tool
3. Find and download stock image suitable for your version / country
4. Flash it
like I said read, read, and read again, all the info you need is here in good detail.

Dude, you need to learn what all this stuff means , or pay someone to do it for you, simple as that.
Relax about your data, its still there. It can be recovered via adb , or even easier flash twrp recovery and use the inbuilt file manager and copy it to USB or SD card.
But before you do a shed load of study any further advice is useless, hows your PC skills?

So,you mean to say by that I will get my data AS WELL AS tab? Will I get the data which was on private mode?

Nope best get one for t705, but while you are here I would flash twrp custom recovery here,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...recovery-twrp-2-7-1-0-touch-recovery-t2817100
That recovery has a file manager in it, you can copy files around before you ever get to booting android, which is exactly what you need for your data.
You seem to be progressing quite fine, another day or so an you will have the experience necessary, you put yourself down on the first post, there is nothing wrong with your technical skills, your obviously a bright chap.
I'm not at all sure of private mode, have zero clue what it is or how it works, but I'm confident it can be cracked somehow. After all most other parts of Samsung have been cracked including fingerprint/pin lock.
But if you first flash twrp and see if you can data off that way, then if that fails we can have a go at cracking Samsung propper.
Yes tab is fine, data is fine, both will be back with a little time and effort.

So,basically..
1. I need to download twrp recovery on my pc.(Also,I don't think i had usb debugging enabled(i read that somewhere that it is needed to install twrp,i don't know)So,is that a issue or is it safe to proceed without it being enabled?)
2.Connect the tab to pc.
3.Download it to the tab via odin mode/flash it with sd card.
4.Take back up(one silly question: where will the back up get stored)(another one, just need to confirm: i will install twrp via odin mode and then boot into recovery mode and take back up,right?).
5.Then,Install stock rom via sd card(is that correct?)
And Then what?Am I good to go? Tab will just switch on then and I will have my data?help me here please.

1. Nope do not need adb enabled etc, your fine there
2. yep
3. Yep, just make sure you have appropriate Samsung USB drivers installed, and most recent version of Odin would be nice, you flash it by selecting file on PC which is then flashed to device, no SD card used.
4 yep, In twrp you have choice of where to put backup, chose extrenal SD card and your good to go.
4.1 When in twrp, go to advanced>file manager, navigate to your internal storage, then you can copy your data directly to SD card.
STOP HERE.
When you have successfully flashed twrp. Stop, at this point we have all the tools you need installed to start hunting for your data, and proberly repair your current installation. If your data is encrypted somewhere we definitely need to repair the boot, that's going to be easiest method.
Once we have the data, then yes flash a standard image.

Do i need to flash twrp recovery specific for my device or is it same for everyone? If it is specific, where can I get one? And is it necessary for my device to be rooted in order to install twrp recovery? And by back up,will I be able to replicate my entire data including app data, files, documents, etc. which was stored before it went into bootloop or will twrp help me recover only selective stuff?
Yes you need t705 twrp https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...recovery-twrp-2-7-1-0-touch-recovery-t2817100
Nope do not need root.
From twrp you can do anything you need, full backup, selective, Fix your current system, flash a new one without overwriting your data pretty much anything.
What avenue we need to take depends totally what your data is and where it was stored, the answers in the detail, if its sensitive you can pm me.
But first be VERY CONFIDENT you have read everything you can get about ODIN and flashing twrp. I can guide you but your there not me, its up to you to know what you are doing. Just read a bit more, I think another day or so of intensive reading and you will be there. As I keep saying your not stupid just focus, there is frigg all difference between you and an android developer, they have just obsessively read up on the subject, you have not lol

Could you be available to guide me along the way as I don't want to mess this up? I am pretty confident now that I know that my data is safe and can be recovered. Data mostly consists of some docs and rest are valuable photos.I am just worried about the data stored on private mode(just photos).whether I will be able to recover it or not. So,I really need an expert's way to get it done.I have been reading a lot and I think I am ready. I have messed up my exams due to this.I have an exam tomorrow LOL.And I am busy with this because I won't get settled before I fix it.Also, thanks a lot for your valuable info and attention.

Dude if I was there would do it for you lol, yes sure will help you all the way.
Now your up to speed, I will write you a detailed guide to get your data, with as many screenshots as can take, I'm 90% sure your data is not encrypted, hence is somewhere on the tab in plain format.
If you don't need the data for exams, drop this for a couple of days and concentrate on what's left of exams. I will have your detailed guide finished when you do.

Just did a Google on private mode, the files under private mode ARE encrypted, that means although you can recover them you can't read them.
If we repair the tab they SHOULD. Be accessible ( once back in private mode) , but zero guarantees.
The other files, no problem.

You seem to be blowing this out of proportion and making it more complicated than it actually is.
The first thing you should do is simply install the stock firmware via odin. There are literally hundreds of in depth guides how to do this. Even the websites you download the software from usually have a guide.
I suggest you install the same android version you originally had as this is safest. If that doesn't boot then move on to the Marshmallow update.
Dont expect instant boot after installing either as the update can take some time to boot.
If worse comes to worse then there is always the option of installing Twrp. However there should be no reason your device shouldn't boot after installing the stock firmware unless the device has had a hardware failure.
Your private folder files should also be accessible via Twrp. They aren't encrypted in my experience and I have accessed files in the private folder just fine.

This is TOTAL NOOB guide to flash TWRP , with shed load of screen shots, if you dont get it from this then hey
Although its also for Fenris users it should suit you just fine.
But this is just for flashing TWRP on a T705, its not covering flashing a standard image.
I would listen to Ashyx , that guy has forgotten more about the tab s than i will ever learn lol

Need To Obtain Procedure As To How To Get Into Recovery Mode

Hi,
I'm trying to get into the recovery mode on my LG G5 H830 (T-Mobile / Unlocked) phone. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I can't seem to get into the recovery mode so I can perform a wipe data cache function. I seem to remember reading somewhere else that the only way to get into recovery on this phone is to use a computer to do so. On my desktop computer I already have the android studio application installed, but to be honest I'm still trying to learn how to use it. I don't know why lg makes getting into the recovery mode so difficult. I guess I can try to use the buttons on the phone one more time and see if I have any luck. Also I've read possibly using TWRP will possibly let me perform a wipe data cache function. Thank you for any valid suggestions.

Hi David!
Holy cow, you've installed the entire studio? That's way more than you need. Just get the Platform Tools here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
At a user level, all you'll ever need are ADB and fastboot. Then enable developer settings, enable USB debugging and use the command 'adb reboot recovery'. You sure power + volume down don't work? Or power + volume up for fastboot (to get custom recovery installed)? Note that I have made zero research on this device so it may deviate (I'm on mobile right now). If any of those steps seem difficult or you're unsure how to proceed, just let me know where exactly you're stuck.
Oh and when you send an adb command to your device for the first time (like 'adb devices') it will likely show a trust notification on your screen, asking you to allow this computer to send adb commands. Make sure the remember checkbox is on.
Good luck!

Hi Timmy,
Thanks for being nice and explaining the process to me, that sounds pretty easy. Today my biggest problem is getting vanced to install on my amazon fire 7 tablet (2019 Edition). I've had it running normally on there previously, but a couple of day's ago I started the vanced app and noticed that I wasn't signed into my google account anymore. And when I attempted to sign in I received the now famous notice that said google server's were busy, please try again later. But knowing I had it running before, motivates me to get it running again. In the interim, I'm using the Web Tube app.
David
That's usually a matter of uninstalling both, installing MicroG first, then Vanced.

Hi Timmy,
Unfortunately I've already tried that, now I'm wondering if it's possibly due to me installing google web view on my tablet. All I can do is just keep trying to figure it out.
Thanks, David

Proper reboots in between? I don't see how web view would be related but it's always a good exercise to remove recent installations one by one, retrying Vanced in between. Be sure to share your findings if you encounter a potential culprit. It's important for the community to learn from that.
Hi Timmy (I guess it's okay to use this name),
I think before I do anything else, I'll go back and re-read the instructions on how to properly install it. Unless google has done something on their end, I should be able to get it functioning properly. It was installed previously, that's why I don't know what happened.
Thanks,
David
