Screen Burn on Omnia 7 :/ - Windows Phone 7 General

The bottom application bar, i can vaguely see the icons on the screen, especially when the screen is white and there is also a little dark blob just above the windows button on the screen
is this a common issue? any way to fix?

It would help if you could provide us with some pictures of your phone.

I think it's a common issue with SuperAMOLED. I had a screen burned with Galaxy S top bar, where the battery icon was. You just have to live with it...

took some pics but its not very obvious on camera - guess i'll just live with it didnt realise it was a problem with super amoled screens tho!

I would return the phone to get a warranty-replacement.
Never heard of screen burn with AMOLED-screens before. I have my Omnia7 since November and there isn't the slightest hint of a screen-burn yet.

Go to Samsung Galaxy S i-9000 area and Search "Screen burn". Theres plenty of threads and posts about screen burn. Also Wikipedia confirms OLED displays burn in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_burn-in#Plasma_.26_LCD_.26_OLED
You can always try to replace it, but doubt it they will...

Oh...I just knew that blue colour will fade with time, not that it can burn in. But this happens when something like a logo is displayed for hours every day. I doubt that this effect is meant to happen with a phone display that is off most of the time and when it's switched on it displays a lot of different pictures and apps.
Hmm...I would definitely try to get a replacement -I won't accept a burned in screen.

Blimey this is like Plasma Display burn-in all over again....
Glad I have an HD7 then

Returning a phone for repair is so much hassle tho it can takes aggess and may even lose all my data on the phone (hmm unless latest update has that backup thingy) i'll leave it for now see if it gets anyworse! Other super amoled people beware!

Bought my Omnia 7 in germany and have also experienced a small form of burn in when I am surfing the web.
The 2 circles leave a burn in when I slide up the IE options bar. This fades away over time and is the same type of behaviour as on plasma TVs.
I wouldnt worry much about it if it fades away. Turn off your phone and check if the marks are still there! I am certain that they wont be!
But if they are ... get it fixed.

Hi, just a suggestion... Try to enter LCD test via samsung codes.. Search on this forum for samsung codes..

Yes, screen burn in is common with Super AMOLED screens. However, you shouldn't have a problem unless you leave your phone on (set to the highest brightness with a static image visible) for hours on end.
I've seen a large number of Galaxy S screens with imprinted icons on them, and the reason for that was because they were left on for hours.

I see you are on orange. Any warranty claim i have had with orange has resulted in a new handset being at my door the following morning. Pretty quick service.

I saw this on the Display Focus at my local AT&T. they have the demo mode going, so when it's not being payed with on top it always says Windows Phone and it got burned on.

Burn-in is actually the end results of some pixels faded more than others. So, yeah, blue color will easily have burn-in effect since it only lasts about 2000 hours.

I know that retuning the phone for repair will cause you wait for ages but there is not another way for it..So you should copy your private data in your laptop or any other storage device .So it will be kept safe with you...

Well i had the worst combination then because i had the blue theme setting and i decided to keep my brightness on full! so thats what caused it then!

Exactly. On my Captivate (Android), I found most of the wall papers on Android are blue themed. In early days of Nexus One, it was reported that using a red theme not only saves your blue pixels but also saves battery.
In comparison (2,000 hrs of Blue pixel life), modern plasma TVs typically has 80,000 to 100,000 hours of phospher life. So, AMOLED/OLED screen is way to easy to get burn in. The only saving grace is most ppl already move on to new phones well before all these panel life span issues show up.

I've uploaded some pics! One is not much use, i was amazed how microscopic my cheap webcam was!!!! but still it woulds seem the dark patch is growing and hmm i didnt know that about the blue pixels! wont be using that again!

Not sure what you're talking about. Do you mean the 3 dots on the bottom? Those are the 3 bottons which correspond to the back, home, and multitasking buttons. Pretty sure its a bug that they're showing on the lockscreen. And pixels are a lot smaller than those dots
And if pixels are physically broken/malfunctioning on your device, we can't see it in a screenshot

Sorry didn't notice the screen shot turned out bad but no not talking about the home button etc. The top right portion and all the black above the home back and app button is what I actually see. The background will be there dim and then just random black chunks and squares appear such as they show in the screen shot
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
PS obviously it does show up on the screen shot as its right there and yes I know pixels are smaller however there is a pixel like pattern as every blacked out area of the screen is in those pixel like squares
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
Here's a new one. Again notice the black blotches on the bottom left and center top. I noticed this in the clock app when I dim it. I've also noticed a blacked out streak in the gray background when I load up gta3
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
That looks like the background picture used. It's probably of low detail.
The background is the standard galaxy nexus wallpaper the same one found on half nexus reviews and I'm pretty sure the nexus reveal as well. Normally the background looks nothing like that and even when I dim the screen in the clock app it never looks like that until the screen shot. The main point I'm making are the black blotches in the top and bottom that appear on many apps randomly
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
here's more black blotches hard to notice on the screen shot though

Okay, bro.. my advice would be to exchange it. It doesn't matter if anyone here notices it, really. If it's bothering you, that's all that matters.
.... wait is this a joke? Like I said. If you're having trouble with your screen, the defects will not show up in a screenshot. You have to take a picture of the screen with another camera lol.
Obviously something is bugging you on the screen. Return/exchange the phone if it bothers you that much.
I'm just curious if anyone else were to go to the same things if their phone does it as well. If its on most phones I'm not going to worry about it but if its just mine then yeah I switch it out. I'd just rather not switch it out for a new one that has the same issue as well as all the other ones people have been complaining about on theirs as mines been pretty good

I apologize for the rant. I just checked using my computer and the blotches don't show.... :/ I'm confused lol my phone even shows the blotches in the screen shots when they are tiled in the gallery however I can zoom in and move the picture around and the blotches remain. But each picture has dif blotches and they each remain on the screen for that specific picture dispite zooming and moving. Sorry idk how to describe it really
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
I guess for example on the gta3 shot with orange letters the blotch is a line from the left screen going to the center. I can zoom in completely away from that original spots and the blotch remains in the same spot on my phone. Swipe to the side for my next screenshot and the blotch is in the new location and remains despite zooming and moving. That a little better? :/ again sorry for snapping its late I'm crabby and don't like noticing faults in my phone ha
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
You need to either take a picture of the screen with another camera or no one can help you because we don't know what specifically you're describing.
It is clearly frustrating you strongly. You should exchange it.
There are several other threads on screen defects, maybe you should browse through those.
How's this? The bottom if the phone when in camera app and dimmed
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
I recall reading that the thing with amoled screens is that they are able to completely turn off to display black. After flipping through wallpapers and apps I've noticed it only happens on dark ones. Perhaps the phone is being told that its a pure black space and to shut off the pixels there?

Definitely a screen burn, image burn-in during charging...
(You can clearly see the charging ring burned into the screen)
That's not a good sign... but this is the first time I've seen or heard anything about this, so most likely just a defective unit.
Definitely get a replacement before it is too late.
Someone else posted something like this a while ago he got his from Google I / O. Apparently his developed screen burn-in pretty quickly as well. I'm hoping these are just defective units and not a sign of things to come for all of us.

That looks horrible.
I decided to stick it on the charger all night and its worse (ha!) I'm glad i went through best buy. I'm going in and politely demanding a prompt replacement. its odd, the display seems to have more jagged edges on the screen icons as well as a change in brightness since this problem started.
that sucks man, considering the shortage, I hope you get a quick replacement

Turning the screen off helps charge the battery faster too, don't know why Moto decided to leave it dim...
I called Motorola, they knocked 10% off and free shipping. Best buy couldn't order through their stock system on account of scarcity. I should receive a new one within 4 weeks. I hope it's still the grey band and not the stone leather one. I added more photos of how bad the burn in was.
Yeah, that's crazy. Definitely defective!
I actually liked having the display on all night on my nightstand and using it as a clock. Never had any Ill effects, though
Seems like a defective unit or there would be a ton of people reporting this. Sorry for your loss and I hope you get a replacement soon!
i thought it looked nice as well although it bathed my room in blue light that made it hard to close my eyes.

Nope people only post when they have issues. What would be the point of everyone with no issues creating a thread to say "my watch works fine"?
i honestly don't think he had a bad unit. i think that these screens are subject to burn in just like early plasma hd screens. he already stated that he left the watch on the charger for two days with a static image. that is a recipe for burn in on screens that are susceptible to burn in. after reading this thread i turn my screen off when the phone is on the charger.

LG G4 display burns?

Hello i would really like your opinion about something wierd with my phone.
I have a LG G4 and after a while that the screen is alight I get display burns of the parts the didnt change in the screen and have a bright color (such as the clock and battery status, it also happens in games that i play which have the buttons displayed in bright color).
It calms down after a few minutes that the screen is turned of or i force it to display something diffrent in the burned parts
I'm having a video attached so you can see what i mean (in the video i spoke some language, please ignore)
In the video the burned parts are at the top and top left (the "share" sign)
youtube.com/watch?v=Gcl0NOHPL3w
(i cant post links..)
Is it a normal thing to have on a phone like LG G4 considering the type of screen it has(LED)?

Ive had 3 g series phones now g2 g3 g4. I have set my screen sometimes to not turn off. Some items displayed for more than a hour or 2. I have never had any screen burn on any of the g series. Some people claim they have i personally have not. My g2 was the closest to a screen burn. It had a cloudy type in white backgrounds. But found out it was hotspots in the phone that discolored the screen. I always tell people never the the same thing display more than 20 or 30 min shut off screen or goto something full screen to get rid of status bar icons. A phone is just like any other device or machine they do need periodic breaks too
any1 else think something about it?

i agree with you it is ANNOYING as hell!!! I returned mine 2 weeks ago not only because of this but also because i cannot see nor connect to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Just 2 months prior top this the phone killed itself (not even 1 year old) and had to get a new PCB. LG if you are reading this, i want my money back.

Yellowish tint on screen?

Might be being paranoid due to 2 XL screen issues but has anyone notice a yellowish tint to the screen? It almost seems like off axis is more pure white and looking directly on is a warmer white if that makes sense. Might try to take pics but not sure I can capture it.
I haven't noticed any hardware problems with the display yet, although I do have black clipping in movies.
Instead of starting a new thread I decided to post my issue here because it's screen related. I don't have any yellow hue with my screen. I unfortunately have a pinkish hue on the right side of my phone. I saw it immediately after powering up for the first time. Kinda reminds me of the S8+ fiasco. It's just in the right side and starts about the middle of the screen and heads up to the top. I called Google and they took my issue very seriously. They wanted pictures and it's a very hard thing to capture with a video or pic but they said they could see it in one of the pics I sent. They have me play some white screen YouTube video and wanted a picture while that was playing. Anyways, they took my info about the issue to some higher ups and called me back about an hour and a half later. The person I dealt with was nice but a bit pushy with getting pic results. He was concerned about some widespread issue because the phone was just released. So he said that these panels have some color shifting (ok? Already went over that) but offered to send out a new replacement. That is me basically buying another and not getting charged unless my original phone isn't returned on time. I'm very disappointed with the screen having this issue. I went through the whole blue screen last year. I had to get two replacements until I received a "good one." Anyone else having screen issues with color?
Sorry to hear about your yellowish screen issue. If you aren't happy with it I'd return it. There are a few friends of mine that have great screens
Here is what I'm noticing. Maybe that's just the way it is and it's something I've never noticed before. The funny thing is I have a Xs Max and the Pixel looks better. Interestingly enough the second picture (pure white) looks similar to the Xs max if true tone is turned off.

My display is great. Beautiful. I'm grateful too because I went through 7 2 XL's before I found one with a display I could deal with.
Adaptive brightness, if on, will turn the screen yellowish in low light conditions.
Otherwise, I didn't notice anything since I received the phone today. I've been using it all day.
Nope, mine has been fantastic. Looks great.
Going to have to go check other devices in store. Can't tell if what I'm seeing is normal without another unit to compare.

+1 I've seen some "comparisons" saying the 3 was warmer than the 3XL they saw. I'm opposite here. Received a 3 before launch day. Nice, cool screen (which is my preference). Phone felt way too small for me so I picked up a 3XL at Best Buy yesterday. Quite a bit warmer than the 3. Returning that one today haha.

Haha If it's noticeable straight away and takes away the enjoyment of the screen then a swap is the best way. I've had devices from Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus, Google etc and I've had bad tints or uneven whites on them all..so part of the oled game

Question edge bleeding at low brightness

Hello, tonight i was configuring my youtube app and i noticed very bad colors at the edge of the display, when the background is grey. I was in a complete dark room, the problem is most noticable when brightness is about 15%. And no, its not only the app. The bad colors are visible at a brightness from 0% to 50%.
Do you guys also have this problem?

The Mi 8 has it also, that is screen uniformity. It is hardware and it seems very common the last few years. I don't have it on my Oneplus 7 pro but it is also present on the Oneplus 8, Xiaomi Mi 9 etc.
Some folks say it is normal on oled but it isn't.
Why are the no problems with oled on Oneplus 7 pro, Samsung s10+?

so your unit doesnt have this issue?
i have the same problem, always visible when you have a dark(not black) background, note i had before 1 samsung s2,s4,a5 (the a5 when i was watching a movie in dark scene i could see a yellow brightness in one corner,it was awfull)and a tablet from the same manufacturer and all had the same probleme but at different level,my last Mi9t was parfect and screen didnt show that but my new F3 has it ,one side is clearer than the other one
As far as I know it is because of the AMOLED manufacturing tolerances, it seems to be really hard to get a perfect uniform display.
It shows at low brightness with grey screen especially.
Discussion also happend with the Mi 8 here:

Lol, I was just about to start a topic about this when I saw yours. Only dark gray backgrounds and top left is brighter then bottom right. Disappears at about 25% brightness. On the photo it seems green but not to the eye...
So if I send the phone back I'll most likely receive a new one with the same issue?

you have a chance to get another F3 with same issue or less visible or worse

Lol, as u can see, my issue is in the same area, but mirrored.
I think, if u send the phone back, maybe u will get one with the same issue on diffrent corners. Only if u r lucky, u will get a good screen but then maybe the vibration motor starts crackling xD
I will keep my phone, cuz everything is fine for now
Well, yes, I'm a nitpicker really and there's always a small problem with a device it seems. I can't find anything else so I guess I'll settle for a small uniformaty of the screen. After all it's only with gray and in a dark surrounding. When watching a dark scene in a movie in inperceptable and maybe I can switch more elements to black using a custom rom (hope lineageOS will show up).
And maybe when there's a way to do DC dinning and not PWM it'll be better....

It is in general really hard to get a perfect display, be it on phones or on PC monitors.
Also TN and IPS panels show their weaknesses at "grey" colors, it makes the uniformity visible to the human eye.
Additionally trails and overshoot of moving objects on a grey background are most noticeable.
Not sure why "grey" is so devastating
I don't know. I'm from NL and here we have a lot of "grey areas" so guess I'll have to get used to it
Mine has a similar grey gradient visible at low brightness and solid colors, but it doesn't seem to be discernible in anything but settings. My old phone has a "perfect" oled though, so it's definitely possible.
Solid colors seems fine, or my eyes don't perceive it...
Probably the same case as processor cores: bins. Maybe they pay less for getting screens that are not 100% uniform?
