LOL are you kidding me? - Using the phone will kill the battery. Unless you have brightness down all the way and using a black only theme this post is useless. Who doesn't want to show off their phone. Plus we are talking about perhaps a 10% difference in battery drain at most.

I don't. It's a phone, not a fashion accessory. I use a black theme with "brightness down all the way" too. Aren't I dull?
I think white on an AMOLED screen is of much greater concern than battery life.

Thx guys

Yes you are dull

I also know a lot of people who like to customize their phone (theme and such) just to impress others.
To each their own I guess. I personally couldn't care less, therefore, a white theme is pretty much horrible due to the batterylife. And no, the difference is not a measly 10%, far from it, very very far from it.

I personally like the look of the white theme. The original poster requested a white theme and hopefully it will get done.
If anyone does not like the white theme there is essentially no reason to reply to this thread.
There are plenty of posts here to keep everyone interested, we dont need pointless negative replies.

Guys, you both have no idea about battery drain of white amoled.
Check this forum out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660853
It states if you are starring at the BACKGROUND for 1 hour, you have significant battery drain. Now I ask you, how much you stay on the main page when you use your phone? I personally check time, and click on icons. That's all. The rest, browsing, games, applications, movies, reading, calling are all different colors, so I'd say don't bother too much about it.

I agree that the battery consumption would not be too much. Maybe make it a little grey.
The white status bar may help in remedying the burn in on that area.

Not fear when I am just browsing on the web etc. my screen is using like 65% of my battery but I get just 3 hour and 40 min on lowest brightness.
Search here, you can get almost 11 hours with black on lowest brightness setting!

Had that going all night while on standard battery. Would have lasted longer if the black pixels had actually turned off. I think thats an app shortcoming though with deskclock.
It was on autobrightness fwiw (not much at that point).

It's not a limitation of the clock app, that's just how the GNex deals with perfect black. There is a minimum voltage. You will see it in any app with pure black. Try a black photo, a black video, or even noLED.
Also, burn in is a risk with this phone, I have read. So it might not be a good idea to lead the clock mode on all night (correct me if I'm wrong). The noLED app moves the clock around to different pixels to avoid that.

Theme expansion- A little help deciding

Could the kind people around here please help me decide which of the two sets of buttons i should use in a theme:
{

I like set 1 as they are simple and elegant, but......
i like set 2 and they would be easier to expand into a theme.
Please share your thought's.
You can either post or vote your opinion in the poll at the top.
Which ever set is more popular will also be created in a variety of colours.
Thank you in advance and i look forward to your feedback.
Sorry, i forgot to ask,
What base would you prefer??
*GB 2.3.6
*CM7.2
*ICS 4.0.*
*CM9
The WIP name for the theme will be "moist couch".
Set 1 by far. Looks more professional to me.

Yeah thats what i thought,
I had already started overhauling the framework-res with style 1 but i didn't want to get too deep in to find out there would be no interest.

Since at the moment most people are using CheckRom v6 or Hyperdroid v6 i would say GB base and maybe later if you have the time port it to ICS Samsung stock since I personally think that in the end most people prefer stock rather than Cyanogen if they want something more stable and fluid...
And I also voted for the first set
Ok so style 1 is 3x more popular than style 2 but i thought style 1 was lacking something, a bit of colour maybe on the normal button?? Anyways......

Galaxy Nexus N7 Mass Effect 3 Edition

Hey everybody!
I am a HUGE Mass Effect fan. And I mean HUGE. So I decided to mod my galaxy nexus to look more Mass Effecty.
This will be a multi-step project over Easter break.
The first thing that I did is order a custom laser etched battery door (Thanks Android etch!) and it came out brilliant!

Step 2 is the touchstone induction charging mod detailed here Parts are on the way I ordered them today
Step 3 is a custom paint job. I have a question on this one. What kind of paint would work best on this phone? Model paint? Also how can I safely remove the verizon logo?
Step 4 is a custom icon theme. My buddy (soon to join the forum) is helping me with this. The theme will be CWM flashable and have custom icons as well as custom navigation buttons! Suggestions appreciated.
I'll update with more pictures as I progress in the mod.
Thanks!

Thats pretty cool. If I were to do something like this. I would try to find or make a vector image of Commander Shepard in an action pose to go along with the N7 image.
But still cool nonetheless.
I'm Commander Shephard and this is my favorite battery door in the Citadel.
Big fan here as well. Played all 3 with my Paragon Infiltrator Shephard. I won't go into details of the ending though lol.
Bit of a setback. The inductive charging modification doesn't quite work with the custom battery door so tomorrow I will order a modified design on an extended door. Thinking of Normandy SR2 right above the n7. That or "Fight for the lost".

If your losing 2-3% an hour its your own fault, choose your apps better. Stock android gets at *least* 2 hours per percent while idle... you installed something you shouldnt have.

Besides no multitasking
The screen is tiny, No location services (Google Now, Maps, etc..)
No Overclocking... There is plenty more.
But if you're loosing 2-3% something is wrong with your phone. My phone last a good 14 hours with about 3-5 hours screen time alone. You're in a website where the majority of the things will need root. Lol

No way does stock android do that well. There are plenty of battery issue threads in this forum, highlighting the unfortunate massive drain. My battery life is, in comparison to most here, better than average. Nonetheless, there is definitely a drain per hour, perhaps closer to 2%. dark themes do improve battery life

On the MOAR thread, there was some discussion about dark themes and battery life. there were references posted, and some confusion about whether or not the brightness of the colors made a difference.
I decided to do a simple test to confirm. this was done on an older phone, but I figured i might as well put the issue to bed - at least in my midn.
so I put the phone on airplane mode, turned of wife and gps, and turned off the motion sensors. I then took a picture without any light - a black picture. I took a copy of the picture and advanced edited it to be completely white.
The result was a picture showing a black screen, and another showing a white screen.
I charged the time to 100%. I set the timer for 30 minutes, and put on the black screen. The screen timeout was for 10 minutes, so I had to touch the screen a few times to keep it away. I recorded the battery findings, and then charged the phone back up again. I then ran the same test with a white screen.
The black screen led to battery readings of 95% and battery voltage of 4187 mV. the white screen had a battery percentage of 87%, 4088 mV.
So my conclusion is having dark images on the screen really does lead to a modest increase in battery life.
Very nice test. Thank you for sharing!

Yes, black and dark colors save battery on the S3 since it has an AMOLED screen. Same does not apply to LCD screens.
This is good info, so if you extrapolate this out over an entire charge it is a significant difference.

I am going to check some out. I currently just use the inverted GMail and messaging. I personally tend to like the darker themes more anyways so the battery life is a bonus :good:
Thanks!
Thanks! I love dark themes. Great to know that battery life is better with them
Thanks for the info. I'm running Wicked V5.0 wicked blue which is a pretty dark theme. I also have a completely black wallpaper and can definitely tell a difference in battery life.
Only dark colors aren't enough. You need a lot of pure black in your themes for this to work. Because if your theme just has dark grey or something that means those pixels are still on and thus using power. Only in pure black do the pixels turn off completely which helps in saving power.
I repeated the experiment. but instead of using a black screen, I used a gray screen. started at 100 % for both. 4360 mV. The gray screen went to 4186 mV - 94%. The white screen went to 4108 mV - 90%.
This time I used tasker to keep the screen on for the entire 30 minute trial (so no need ot touch screen or worry about the screen autodimming), and pumped up the screen brightness to 100% for both runs. otherwise did the same as on the OP.
I would have to run this 3 times to do a statistical analysis. I don't plan on doing this. Nevertheless, my conclusion is the same - dark screens (not necessarily black screens) have a modest improvement in battery life.
That's great info. I'll have to give it a try.

Kinda don't know why there's another post about dark stuff saving battery life. It's common sense that lighter or brighter colors on a screen use more energy than dark and blacks which use a lot less.
