[Q] Swype versions, question. Something for Evo? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a better swype keyboard that we can install?? for example remove the one that came with the 3.70 software and install a better looking version or the white version i see on moto devices??
what happens if i delete sprint_swype and get the one off the swype site like i did with my hero?
thank you!!

You can use the Swype installed on your device or the beta version, they should both work fine. You would probably want to remove the Sprint Swype first before installing the beta. I went back to the beta initially as it wasn't included in my ROM choice, but ended up figuring out how to use the Sprint Swype and jumped back to that. I believe they both work about the same in my experience. If its just theming you are after, I recommend checking here. It themes the keyboard picture and the trace line, and in my opinion looks a lot sharper than the Sprint or Beta Swype. You have to be comfortable with root and metamorph however.

[Q] Is there a Swype APK that

can be loaded onto any rom.
Be careful. If I'm not mistaken xda treats posting swype as warez since it is licensed software. Not sure how this works since the G2 is licensed to have swype. I would like to have swype on the sense Rom as well...
I want swype on betterkeyboard. Give me the best of both worlds.
Believe it or not, that's one of the main reasons I don't want to fully switch to Sense. I'm absolutely loving Swype.

I've been on sense since evil dropped his flashable .zip. so far its amazing, but losing swype and battery drains are bothering me. Can't wait till 6.1!! Hopefully rc1 comes out this week.
Is Sense incompatible with Swype? If I loaded the Sense ROM, can I drop the Swype apk that came with the G2 originally back on top of it? It was one of the first things I dumped when perm root was released, knowing I'd want it on other ROMs.

I have been trying to get it to work, but it just force closes. The g2 is licensed to have swype, but apparently the DZ is not. I was able to load a working version found online, but once opened it says trial has ended please upgrade...

I actually have a working version of swype that will work on Sense. Well it worked on my Nexus Ones Sense.
I know the rules are pretty strict here regarding giving out the APK but come on people our devices are licensed with it so we already basically bought a copy of the software when we bought the phone >.>
Swype is not allowed to be posted onto XDA.....if you need to re-install it sign up on their site for the installer.

Newest swype beta (2.29.71.xx), any themes yet?

The newest swype beta came out a few weeks ago and I simply don't use it becaues it's so damn ugly, hah. Has anyone themed it yet? I find that the swype beta works WAY better for me for some reason, so I don't want to push the official to my phone. I've tried moving the app to the proper locations for the existing Metamorph themes to act on it, but it always ends up breaking swype (it didn't used to). AFAIK, the current themes at the moment only work on the old betas and the "official" for sense roms. Anyone know of themes for the latest beta?
For the record I'm on CM7 RC3.
Well... still no luck in my own search, but this thread was updated by the OP today:

So hopefully we'll have something soon. Surprised so many people are just dealing with how ****ty the swype beta looks

[Q] FlexT9 Theme

Is anyone using FlexT9 on the Nexus? I was having problems with Swype being too buggy so I figured I'd give FlexT9 a shot. It seems to work really well but it's horrifically ugly. Is there an ICS theme anywhere?
Mods, this isn't really a Nexus specific question, maybe it's in the wrong forum? Feel free to move it somewhere as long as it's in a place where people will see it
Try deleting any current version of Swype beta (and the installer), then go back to Swype's beta page and download the new installer - this will in turn pull down the new Swype beta. Nice improvement - new features, smoother and so far I've run into no bugs...

Just tried that. Seems a lot more fluid and I'm not having issues when I move the cursor around in the text boxes. Thanks!
Is this swype beta version expire like it constantly did with my Incredible?
Yes...this will expire, don't remember how long. As well as being smoother, the other features are cool too, definitely worth reading the release info and trying all the features out.
Back to being my favorite keyboard. Current wish list:
- Fix spacing after period
- Allow use of native ICS voice input that types as you speak instead of Dragon
- Skins!
- Add a ".com" key

This is so freaking annoying. Why can't they release the app just like normal? What's with this beta method that requires users to jump through hoops? Remember back when we had to actually request an invite to get a login?!

I like FlexT9 a lot more than Swype.
But yeah, I'd like to see this, too.

Best rom with Swype?

Hey guys!
I wanted to know what you guys think is the best ROM with the Galaxy S III that gets to keep Swype with it.
I pretty much need swype and the "Beta Swype" sucks.
The stock one that comes with the phone is perfect.
Or if I could backup swype and then get it again with a custom ROM that would be perfect too

I don't think our phones come stock with the Swype app on them...You could try Ti backup or I have the JB 4.2 keyboard that I can give you which has a swipe type feature on it. Try this out. http://db.tt/gFNEwThQ

They don't come stock with name-brand Swype, but the Samsung keyboard does have a Swype alternative that comes with the phone. As for a CM10/AOSP based ROM that has this Samsung keyboard in it, I've not seen one. I have seen plenty that come with the 4.2 keyboard that Robbie mentioned that allows for the Swype. Also SwiftKey has their SwiftKey Flow beta out that's pretty slick. I'll do a bit more research and see if there's a way to flash the Samsung keyboard back on AOSP ROMs without issue. You can try Titanium Backup like Robbie suggested to backup the Samsung keyboard on a TW ROM and then restore it on a different ROM, or try one of the alternatives in the mean time
(Though as an aside, this is the first I've heard of someone preferring Samsung's Swype to the Swype beta )
Well I tried to edit my previous post, but apparently it goes flagged and wouldn't let me , so sorry for the double post.
But it looks like you should be able to flash the file in this link to get your stock Samsung keyboard back on AOSP ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28785982&postcount=504
the samsung 4.1.1 rom comes with swype built in, in addition to the samsung with swype-like capabilities. it's a bit better than the samsung keyboard.
swiftkey flow beta is nice. my preference is the vanilla 4.2 keyboard. Those with Titanium Backup can convert either of these keyboards to system apps to avoid the "non system keyboard" security messages.

Swype beta is tiny...

Takes up only half the width of the screen...restored it from my Epic4G, is there a method to re-size the keyboard, or do I need to find/download the beta again from the browser (because I don't remember what email I used when I registered... )
BTW I'm using goodness with the xposed settings, curious if I could use that to get it re-sized, but all the settings I try seem to leave it unfazed.
When i used swype beta it fit the screen just like the stock keyboard.
Sent from a planet far far away.
Try downloading it again. Or clear data/cache of the keyboard app.

Go there, download the swype beta installer and go through the process. You'll have to sign up again for the beta.....but that's pretty common. It seems like the accounts are only good for like a month anyway.

I agree with tkepk181, it looks like it has to do with the fact that you restored the beta from a different phone. I always just re-download the beta from the official installer each time I change ROMs (about once-to-twice a week). It takes a little time, but I find that it reduces the amount of potential headaches associated with restoring a keyboard (especially if I'm changing DPI settings).
And besides, even if you can't remember your password to Swype beta, it's painless nowadays, just register a new e-mail and it's relatively immediate.
Hope this helped!
The Swype keyboard on the Epic 4G is sized down for a 480p screen resolution. Our S3s have 720p screen resolution. This is why the keyboard is tiny. It's incompatible with the xhdpi framework.
Best option is to find one that's themed the same in 720p resolution or download the new beta.
Yeah I downloaded it again, it's a bit different now, newer version I guess...no longer has dragon speech recognition, like I am used to, but at least swype still functions the same

You sure you got the swype beta? The latest full version of Swype doesn't have dragon voice recognition, but the latest beta does. I'm currently running it right now.
I think he downloaded the newest beta, but set Default the Stock Swype.
