My mobile office - Gel case & dock - Xoom Accessories

Some of you may have read my previous posts and know I'm no fan of the portfolio case from Motorola. I just recieved my Moto gel case and dock and am very pleased. The gel is very light and keeps the device feeling thin and portable. The dock comes with an additional accessory so the Xoom w/gel can fit.
All thats left is a screen protector which I've already ordered from PhantomSkinz.

Is that the Apple Bluetooth keyboard? Does the Xoom work pretty much with any Bluetooth keyboard?

Looks good minus that keyboard haha

Nice setup. The keyboard is a little too big to be portable though. Can you buy these gel cases in stores yet?

lol, yeah, it's what remains of my similar Ipad mobile office. Minus the apple dedicated keys it's actually a very nice keyboard. Great feel to the keys.

It's actually a little smaller than the moto official keyboard. And, i'm not sure you can tell, but it's very thin. Trust me, it's very portable and light.

Yes, the dock comes with a charger which is huge. I used the Chad Ochocinco coupon code to get 25% off the order so my total was $75 with next day air.

Sweet thanks

I have the dock and Moto bluetooth keyboard and the combo works great.
I'd say the XOOM is really getting close to being a short term laptop replacement, but still falls a bit short. I was really hoping to be able to use the XOOM for presentations with the HDMI out, but the positioning of the port on the bottom of the device is pretty useless. Even if I buy the $129 speaker dock with HDMI out, there still is no simple way to convert the digital HDMI signal to VGA...

Not sure if one of these will work or not with the Xoom but it could be an affordable way to connect the HDMI output to VGA

So there are a few options available from Motorola. I've included the pictures here, but check out their site for the descriptions. No prices are available yet. I kinda like the portfolio case.

I would love to see a dock where the angle can be adjusted dramatically.
Any body have the detail pictures??
The standard dock is a waste of money IMHO. There is no micro usb connection to the computer so you have to unplug the power cord if you want to charge while uploading files.

Don't waste your time and money on the Standard Dock and Port Case
What garbage. The portfolio case will offer none to little protection, plus it will scratch up the unit with use. The dock is silly, no connections to the computer and places the unit at a very inconvenient angle. I'm not a happy camper. I'm going to check into the return of them.

Yeah I noticed that and decided not to buy. We need a third party dock that allows adjusting the viewing angle and a portfolio case that is not cheap and will allow access to the available ports and power button.
That Portfolio case scratched up my xoom! Grrrrr!!! I am warning everyone I know about that damn case!!
I just bought the black silicone gel case from the verizon store. They showed me the portfolio case, but it just looked soooo awkward and poorly made. The silicone case barely adds any thickness at all and looks quite nice. Since the glass on the front is good, I think i'm good to go with just this case. Also, it says on the box that it is compatible with the docks in case anyone was wondering. $29.99 was a little high in. Y opinion, but at this point it is the only viable case and I'm getting paranoid about my Xoom getting damaged.

Yeah, that one was a little perplexing. Theres a damn micro usb on the dock itself, but none to output to a pc... wtf
Best I can figure, they're using the microusb tip to add stability to the device when in the dock and that there probably isnt anything on the backside of the tip. Maybe somebody will crack one of these things open to see what the deal is...
All in all, I saw it as a slightly more expensive way to get another wall charger.
Does the OCNNSB25 coupon code not applicable to the Xoom accessories? I tried purchasing the the silicone case and hd dock, but the coupon code wouldn't go through. Any suggestions?

That is indeed disappointing. I was expecting at least a usb connection - that way there'd be some hope of debugging from a docked device.
Really. See how far $50 goes now. I only paid $30 for my X's dock which has usb (for charging, but not limited to) and hdmi. I thought that was too high for what it is really.
The cheaper dock, while handy, is not good for debugging at all. I'll use wireless adb for a while, but it shouldn't be this hard.

Official USB dock is ugly as hell, get the Zenis S2 dock instead.

eBay search, now around £10 if I remember right. I have a black one for my S2 which will be used on my blue S3. My dad's S3 above is on his white S2 dock.
Dock works just fine with the rubber seat that comes with it, the phone is solid when docked. Case users will need to remove the seat from the dock. People should confirm what cases fit in this dock when attached to the S3 but I imagine all official mesh style cases will be fine as the S2 is just fine with them minus the seat.
Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered 2 of them ;-)
Saw your post in another thread, thanks for the heads up, ordered two off of Ebay just now, one for home and one for the office. $11 each.
It really is one of the nicest looking docks I have seen, probably because it is in similar style to the iPhone one
Cheers mrk. Just bought one for £6.50.
thanks just ordered one
It's difficult to tell from the photo but do you think the S3 with the flip cover will fit in the dock?

Looks like this one will not be compatible with some cases. While the OEM version will absolutely be compatible with most cases. See pic below.
I'll go for the charger that lets me use a case. I learned that lesson already. You think it won't be a big deal taking the case off and putting it back on. But for me at least, it gets pretty annoying after awhile even if it does become second nature.

ya I just ordered ad GS3 from expansy and this item from ebay.
Zenis dock works with official mesh case so any case similar will also be fine
Flip case not included in that though!
I was expecting to see a dock with an ugly design, but it was actually nice, and that was the product you recommend. Looks nice. I will save it for later when I have my device.
Add me to the list! just ordered 2. Thanks for the heads up!
I really would have liked to get a dock this time around, but unfortunately my kid steals my phone all the time and having it in a dock means too much wear & tear and the possibility for it to be bent out sideways from the dock instead of pulled out, damaging the ports.
So, I bought a regular "Though Out ped3-u universal stand" instead, because my kid at least knows to yank the cable out the right way by the wire. My last stand was a portable desk stand, but was meant for a tablet, and my kid managed to destroy that, so, this ped3-u should hold up much better, being solid steel.
(And I suppose wireless charging would be even more ideal where fat fingered kids are concerned...)
Dock bought!

Has anyone been able to find a nice stand that they use while charging the phone in portrait mode? I currently am using the UAG case, so the normal docks won't work. Thx in advance.

Also my wife has this one and my s3 also fits in it with a slim case that snaps on, but it has some room and would fit a tpu case as well http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-GAL...734459?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19cbf0bdbb
yeah i use a dock as well
I wonder if it will fit my Incipio Faxion.
I found a nice little stand with a sticky front at the container store that works perfectly. And ya, cases force you to rethink stand choices.

I've been using this Thought Out ped3 universal steel stand ($22) for a couple months and I still love it. I had to return the first one I bought, though, because it was warped and wouldn't sit level.

I bought this too. For 4 bucks I think it solves my lack of desk stand quite well.
The original Samsung dock takes a phone in a case. The bottom part around the microUSB plug is spring loaded, pretty clever.
I bent a gift card to use as a stand when I go to sleep since the phone is in landscape (it won't support portrait) and I have a mesh business card holder at Office Depot on my main desk at home for portrait/landscape.

I've pre-ordered the HTC One and my wife will be getting my One XL which is only about 8 months old now. Her Blackberry has kicked the bucket and she's sick of them now. Eventually all BB fanatics see the light, just takes some longer than others. LOL!
So looking forward to this phone though! Thanks for sharing the desktop stand. I'll be sure to order one to replace the one I have at work now.
OP hasn't mentioned it, but the dock he linked to is compatible with some cases too, so those of you who like to keep your phones cased up may not have to remove them when docking. I can imagine that's quite a bonus.

Desktop stand?

Can anyone recommend a good desktop stand for the Moto X? Not looking for a charging dock - just something stable to prop up the phone on your desk.
I use an old black metal book end I found. Put some bends in it...Like a lip for the device to sit in. Then put a thin strip of foam tape where it sits and on the back. It fits any device and can easily be bent for different angles.

The second one comes with the special charger cable that many of the earlier Motorola phones (including my Droid M) used to go into dock mode. Since it doesn't work on the X (magnets are used again) you can get the first one.
It does the job, but is expensive. (I had to remove the links so it would post)

I got a case with a kickstand - the puregear one for the Moto X. The kickstand props the Moto X up on my desk.
Of course, if you don't want to cover up the back of your device, that won't work for you.
My Moto X is the Dev Ed so I have the fugly woven white back, which I WANT to cover up it is so ugly.

I have 2 of the regular ones and 2 of the XL ones.
i bought them back in my OG droid and Droid X days. They both work perfect for the Moto X in portrait or landscape mode, except when it has a case on. If you have a case on, go with the XL one, which I prefer anyway.
I used these stands for every phone I've had. They are perfect bc sometimes i need portrait and sometimes landscape. They look nice as well.
