[Q] Ruining my DHD - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I decided to root my phone today finally!
I used the guides here on XDA.
As I had 1.72 installed I downgraded it first. I Think I did it sucessfully.
I then installed Visionary and did a temp root.
I then did DHD easy S-OFF by jkoljo.
Thats when problems started. Now my phone constantly crashes locations, market, WIFI doesn't work.
What did I do wrong? and more inportantly what should I do now?
If I use the downgrade guide again, will it "reset" my phone and I can start over???
Thanks for help

You cant s-off with temproot, you need to permroot

My mistake, I meant permroot. As far as I know I did permroot. What could have caused such system instability anyway?
If I try to download Rom manager from market, everything crashes. I can't even seem to turn fastboot off. Anyway, everything is messed up :S
So I have no idea what to do, to restore it to a workable ROM, from which I can then finally install Revolution HD.
Would system restore work Does root keep on restore?

Try a hard reset and if that doesn't work reflash the 1.32 ruu.

Thanks!
Reseting the phone did it! I didn't think you could completly restore your phone like that.
I have to reroot now, correct?

Yep you have to reroot, but S-OFF survived.

[Q] DHD rooted using Unrevoked3

I have rooted my DHD using unrevoked3. I have super user permissions app, and clockwork mod recovery. Then I read that you can't install a custom rom without S-OFF. Do I still need to do the Visionary+ w/DHD eng script?
I thought my DHD still had S-ON but now I don't think I could have clockwork without it being off.... I'm confused.
Anyways I did go ahead and attempt the Visionary+, but perm root doesn't seem to do anything. I could probably skip that step I guess. The DHD script complains about busybox not being installed which is probably done during the perm root of visionary. I then installed Titanium Backup and did the check errors function and installed busybox. It said it installed, but terminal emulator still complains about busybox.
Confused. Can anyone help me?

are you sure you have a DHD unrevoked is for the desire/evo/wildfire ect anyway however you rooted, you can use this tool to s-off
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Thanks, I'll give it a try. =]

btw if you have rooted using unrevoked and have clockwork mod installed, you dont need to s-off to flash a rom, you already have write acess to the nand in recovery
How did you do that using unrevoked on DHD?
or you remove nandlock only with unrevoked and root with visonary ?
Something isn't right here. It isn't possible to root dhd with unrevoked

Someone Swyped my idea.
Further information on Unrevoked & DHD
I seem to be having the same problem as the OP.
A bit of background: I just upgraded from my HTC Hero, and had some experience of rooting and installing custom ROMS on that device. My first job when I got my new HTC Desire HD was to get it rooted so I could get all Orange's crap off of it and have a streamlined new phone.
However, in my haste, I used Unrevoked, failing to notice the difference between a bog-standard HTC Desire and the newer HTC Desire HD. The upshot: Unrevoked *did* succeed in rooting my phone and installing ClockworkMod Recovery, but now the recovery partition thinks it's an old-fashioned HTC Desire and so won't install DHD ROMS. I can install bog-standard Desire ROMS to my heart's content.
So, I'm in a bit of a mess. I want to install a DHD ROM on my DHD, but I can't. Also, now that I've already gone through one rooting process, the standard procedure doesn't work, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated. Should I:
- try to get the phone back to its unrooted condition as it was when it came out of the box (in which case how do I do that?)
- flash a different recovery partition in the hopes that I can get it to recognise that my phone's a DHD and not an old standard Desire?
- fiddle about with the ROMs to get them to bypass the device checks (in which case how do I do that?)
Any other suggestions, let me know. It's possible I may have stumbled on a new method for rooting a DHD...
To fix it, just flash 1.32.405.6 RUU.
But I have to say, that is not possible
Desire ROMs on DHD, without S-OFF, everything is just simply wrong. Are you even sure that you have a Desire HD? Please send me a picture of your Desire HD running some Desire ROM.
oops
OK, it appears that there's a much simpler solution. Orange appear to have sent me the wrong phone.
Sigh...
Hahhahhah, good job Orange
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
ok, so to Orange's credit, I've sent back the wrong phone, and they've sent me the right one, next day delivery, having knocked 40% off the original price. Looking forward to playing with it this evening - I won't be touching Unrevoked with a barge-pole!
thanks @jkoljo for alerting me to the possibility that I might have been sent the wrong thing!
we get there in the end...
Very nice, good luck with your new phone

[Q] Unable to root DHD after downgrade. What to do?

anyone out there knows how to root DHD after downgrade? i downgraded my unit to 1.32 after 2.2.1 update (via OTA) messed with my rooted DHD. i used goldcard. now i cant root using visionary or z4root. just shows "rooting device, please wait" but nothing happens. i even reflashed it thinking that something went wrong with the 1st downgrade.
any idea what to do next? i really need to root my DHD.
i used this downgrade tutorial...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Have you tried to RUU 1.32 and then start over with visionary, you will loose all data again though
Regards
i reflashed again using RUU_Ace_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.32.707.1_Radio_12.28a.60.140e_26.03.02.08_M_release_153610_signed.exe but still the same. i think the problem is i already have my DHD S-OFF. My unit is already rooted using visionary before i upgrade via OTA. when i downgraded, my unit is still on S-OFF. i'm trying to find a way to turn it on again without rooting. i even tried manual root but still no luck. any suggestion?
I don't think that it matters that you are already S-OFF, I flashed back to stock with RUU couple of times while my phone is radio S-OFF. Just could root again with visionary with no problems at all.
hmmm.... that is the only reason i can think of that may be causing my DHD not to root. i'm planning to try unrEVOked 3.32. any thoughts on it?

No sorry, I'm not familiar with unrEVOked , sorry
everything went well without error with the OTA update, downgrade & reflash. can't seem to find any DHD owner with same problem as i am.
UnrEVOked will not work, it is useless to even try. Try uninstalling Visionary, and install the latest version from MoDaCo forums, you can find an official thread there.
By the way S-OFF does not interfere with the OTA in any way.
We can downgrade the system to a lower version to solve this problem
i'm already using the latest version of visionary (r14). seems odd coz everyone seems able to root after downgrade using visionary except me. it used to work for me before though. duno what went wrong now.
I seem to have the same problem as you. I downgraded due to a problem with my Device not being able to boot up after powering down. It worked perfectly after the downgrade but after that i tried rooting again with the visionary and easy radio tool. Got the same problem. I do achieve permroot. But i cannot Radio S-OFF. when i do that then i get these problems.
Were you able to solve your problem?.

Updating stock rom rooted to 2.3, will it unroot ?

Hello,
My desire hd's volume button broke.
So I wanna go back for warranty.
I still have a stock 2.2 rom rooted. I backupped it before I flashed a custom one.
If I restore that, and then update to official 2.3. Will it then unroot and go back to factory ?
Or how do I unroot ? And get S-on ?
Anyone help pls, I'm going back to the store tomorrow .
Thanks

Flashing your custom ROM will not remove ENG S-On, S-Off or Unroot.
Read jkoljo's Thread here: [TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide)
To go back to S-ON:
Flash stock ROM - Make sure it's named "PD98IMG.zip" & place on SDCard
Boot Bootloader & it will check for the PD98IMG.zip file, and ask if you want to install, Yes. Follow the promps. After boot.......
Temproot using Visionary
Use my tool, do Stock CID and S-ON (enter brand CID if you had a branded device, see second post)
Enjoy your factory-state phone
Just follow his guides exactly, and you will be right. Flashing the RUU will remove root, restore stock HBOOT, Radio & Recovery, but does not remove S-Off, so that's why you use Visionary for temp root & use the tool after.
When done, don't forget to remove Visionary & Superuser
Hope it work out OK.
EDIT: Didn't read your post properly. By flashing your backed up stock ROM, I pretty sure you will still have the HBOOT, Recovery, Root etc. Can't yet find a stock 2.2 RUU that will remove those (when flashed).
Maybe you'll find the answer in one of jkoljo threads.
Found the answer your looking for
Instructions on how to restore branded backup, and do s-on
Just flash a stock 1.32 RUU, then run radio s-off tool to go back to s-on. Just as described in the thread linked to above
Hi,
Thanks for the guide.
I used factory reset and it's back to standard now. It's unrooted etc, but clockworkmod is still on it.. And also s-off, but I'll do that with your tool. How do I get clockworkmod off ?
Thanks in advance

Factory reset will not remove root.
It's jkoljo's tool (didn't mean to mislead at all), I meant to show that I took the instructions from there and added some important / extra info.
Please read the link on my previous reply, has the info / steps you require. Plus related info in my 1st reply.
Thanks guys, it all worked out! I got S-ON now and fully factory state.
Cheers for the help!
No problem, don't forget to also remove the 'evidence' from the sdcard (PD98IMG.zip) , but in theory, yours is a hardware fault and not void warranty.

I cleaned my sd card hehe, but they give me back my sd card anyways. And there's also a software problem. When I turn it on from standby, the screen stays black and the buttons light up.. Also had this on a normal desire and then I bought this. So I'm wondering what they'll say now..
I noticed that before. I just remove the battery and reboot my phone.

If the above post, battery pull, doesn't work, it could be that the proximity sensor needs calibrating. Leppie has a tool / app in xda, not sure if require root though.
Edit: Here it is;
[APP] DHD Proximity Sensor Recalibrator 1.6 (18-Jun-11)
Edit2: You probably already know, but, make sure HTC don't update your software version updated to a build version 2.37 or higher. It can't be hacked yet. So you'll be screwed if you wish to enjoy all the goodies here at XDA.

Downgrade from 2.3 to 2.2 problems

Hey!
I have problems downgrading to 2.2, since I dont like the new update at all. Alot of bugs and etc.
So I've tried installing the RUU from the computer, also renaming the file to PB99IMG.zip and putting it into the memory card.
Ive done this a thousand times when unrooting but now I get the error that my bootloader is up to date or something like that, I don't really remember.
Anyone who can help me ?
Thanks
EDIT: I get the error 140 bootloader error
Edit: It appears you can now unlock the bootloader and gain root access

Is it possibly to root my phone and flash in a rom, and then unroot the phone to 2.2 froyo like I've always used to?
Understand that the hboot is locked with it locked you cannot do anything untill someone or team alpha and unrevoked come up with something that can..
Damnit, the damn 2.3 update sucks. Well then I have to wait then, I regret updating. I should have stayed on the 2.2.
2.3 update has just been unlocked using revolutionary!
yeah but i dont know the meaning of that.. im not used to s-off and i dont wanna brick my phone..
But if someone could do a quick guide for me for this s-off thing, and how to go back to the standard 2.2 froyo without s-off and root. By that I mean, that the phone is back to it's standard after doing this revolutionary.
Thanks

[Q] Flashed RUU but still S-off, i think i am stucked

SITUATION:
I had my DesireZ rooted almost a year now( unluckily by visionary.)
I was using a CM7 rom and i decided to unroot it so that i can gain my warranty back. I googled and flashed a RUU to my phone (This RUU)
But afterwards i found that i still have S-off. I accidentally format my SD card too.....
PROBLEM:
1) I cannot find a way to turn it back to S-on
2) I decided to give up on turning it back to s-on, but i cannot use custom recovery as i cannot operate Superuser somehow.
s-off means your unlocked. you can unroot your phone but you still have to lock it. follow guides in sticky. also i would root my phone again and then start fresh with the wiki
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I found my software number is 1.34, i checked other threads...
is that the reason i cannot root?
You should run gfree with the -s on arg.
Here is a guide
