So still running a froyo based Rom and whenever I make a phone call it always defaults with speaker phone on. Just started doing this a couple days ago. Tried rebooting, cleared cache and still the same. Any suggestions?

If its caused by the car dock mode I think I found a fix.
I turned my phone off, cleaned out the USB port on my phone and bridged all the connections in the charging port with a piece of aluminum foil then removed the aluminum foil and rebooted it.
It happened after buying a charger from five and below. I'm thinking its caused by poor insulation allowing static charges on pins that aren't supposed to have a charge on them, however, I am not sure what causes it...
Either way, cleaning didn't work but the crumbled up piece of aluminum foil did the trick. Give it a try and let me know if it helps so I can chalk it up to actual fix or random chance.

Well the car panel app starts up when I reboot the phone so I unchecked the automatic start and the app don't open anymore. So I basically just take the foil and shove up in the port then plug the charger in?

I had the same problem just a few days ago. I took my phone in after having putting it back to stock (Stock Rom and S-ON). They ran the diagnostics and then replaced my phone for $35 under the 1yr warranty. Their first suspicion is water damage but if your water markers are in perfect condition and your phone looks like its in good shape then they might replace it. My 1yr launch day phone looked like the day i got it so they replaced it without any questions. Good Luck!

Ok, let me post very clear instructions on what I did. If your car dock comes on when you turn the phone on , this is the exact same problem I had.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, I DO NOT GUARANTEE THIS WILL WORK AND I AM NO RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR PHONE. Below is exactly how my phone was fixed once and for all.
Here are very specific instructions on how I fixed mine:
1. Power off phone
2. Remove battery entirely
3. Get toothpick, CAREFULLY and GENTLY clean all debris in the port, I pulled out a ton of dust.
4. If you have compressed air, use it and clean it out with that as well
5. Take a piece of aluminum foil, crumple it up a bit and carefully stick it in your charging port and bridge all the tiny pins together, BE GENTLE but kinda move it around and make sure all the pins get touched by the aluminum foil at the same time.
6. Remove aluminum foil from charging port and discard.
7. Put battery back into phone
8. Power on and hope your phone doesn't have its speaker on next time you make a call.

Well apparently my phone must be f'd up. Tried the fix posted above a few times with no luck tried 3 different chargers with no luck. So I guess maybe I should unroot and maybe get the 3d. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Thanks for this post, I was about to post the same thing. Ended up doing the tin foil trick (took some from the hat I wear on my head). No more answering on speaker phone
So the strangest thing happened. Made a call before lunch and phone went straight to speaker as usual..went to lunch and left phone in the car, car was hot when I came back went to make another call and no speaker lol. Plugged in headphones and was able to control volume. And so far made couple more calls and all is good. Seems it took a week for it to work itself out idk.
Its def the charging port causing the issue. Had the same thing happen to mine last week on my Launch Day evo (Hardware 0002).

I tried cleaning it out with electronics cleaner and it didnt help. Heck, i used a bit to much on my last attempt (of 4) and it got under the screen. The phone still worked like a champ but i hated that water look. So i claimed Ins on it and paid the 100 on it.
I should have been smart and had unrooted and taken it to the sprint store and paid 35 for the warranty.

In the mean time i found the app NoDock, loads a kernel module to disable dock entirely--works to stop dock and speakerphone nonsense.

I'll second the NoDock. I bought the paid app and it was the only one of a few I found that worked reliably. No issues for me anymore. I'm not bothering with replacing my phone at Sprint as I plan to leave them as soon as Galaxy S2 comes out anyway.
This was a bug caused apparently by Skype for me, in fact almost all the bugs on my EVO 3D are coming from Skype.
No Skype running or logged out, no problem.

That app worked for me, But its caused by a broken charging port, I unrooted my phone and s-on took it sprint showed them the car dock problem and the speaker on straight into calls and they replaced my evo.
Since this morning my phone says it's charging when in fact it's unplugged. I tried cleaning the charging port, wiping cache, full wiping and reinstalling the rom, everything and don't understand why it'll never get off charging state.
I do check in settings while unplugged it says not charging and when plugged in says charging, but it's stuck saying "on battery for 23 min" and the icon never stops from charging....
Any suggestions? It's really annoying... Never had a single problem with my One S...
SOLUTION: Clean the charger port with a hard pointed object (that's what she said), make sure you clean and dirt or particles from underneath the middle piece in the charger port.
Also, if you notice the middle piece is too close or making contact with the bottom, use the pointed object to CAREFULLY bend it up a little.
Do all this while the phone is off and battery out. Use compressed air if available. if you wet it then completely dry it before putting the battery back in.
did you try wiping the Dalvik cache when you did the regular cache?

Have you tested what happens when you install a different ROM?
something like this happened to me about 2weeks ago.
It would say saying/ disconnected none stop.. if i didnt notice it would of burned my screen.
I just turned the phone off and removed the battery

To get mine fixed I gave it blast with compressed air and a little needle to make sure all the lint/gunk was out of the port. I made sure the port was straight (if it looks like it is bent downwards slightly, try and pop it back up softly). Then what fixed it for me is to hit it with a little electrical contact cleaner.
I have a feeling the port was getting shorted by something as each of the pins on the microusb port are very close.

Interesting - I'll have to keep an eye out for something like this on my phone.
I guess first step is the compressed air blast with a needle cleaning of the port. If that doesn't work then on to Samsung to see if they'll honor a warranty repair (outlook not good on this - apparently they claim water damage). Worst case you can get a replacement OEM charging cable off ebay:

Thanks to all the suggestions, it does the same thing even after wiping, installing other roms or going back to stock. I tried cleaning it with a toothbrush but will try with a toothpick or something stronger. Will give updates once I do.
I would suggest the electrical contact cleaner is going to be a good bet too. If it is water damage, it could just be a bit of water has gotten in there (from a table, rain etc) and then when its dried impurities could be shorting the plug.
I am not sure what stores in the states have it (maybe bestbuy?), but we have an electronic store here called Jaycar which sells it. You could even just slip in and give it a quick spray in the isle.
Turn the phone off before doing it, and make sure it is ECC!
Fixed! It was the charger port. All i did was clean it out with a metal pointed object. I also noticed the middle piece was touching the bottom edge. It could've been making false contact. So i bent it up just a little and voila problem solved.

I know I don't have a Galaxy Nexus, but the Nexus S can also suffer from the same problem. I believe it's because of the USB ports that are the same.
Inside the USB port of the phone there is a flat plate which slides into the wall charger/USB cable, I've noticed that when this is "bent" down it will show that it's charging when it isn't, so all you need to do is to find something (I used the tip of the missus'one plastic nail file) to "bend" it up about a millimetre or two and all should be fine.
Worked for me, so I thought I would try to help out here because I know how infuriating it can be.
I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. I also had issues with being unable to connect my phone to a computer. I contacted Samsung, explained my issue and they sent me packaging to send it away. It took me 45 mins to get the computer to recognise my phone to return it to stock, but i managed it. I then wrote a nice little letter explaining the issue, that others also had the issue and that I recommended changing the whole charging board.
I got it back a week later and lo and behold, they'd taken my advice and fitted a new charging board. Now it might just be me, but the inside of the micro USB port looks slightly different. I just can't put my finger on why.

This happened to me yesterday. First the phone doesnt charge, it was at 25%, After that i charged it with phone turned off, then turned on and battery whas 50% but still not charging. Turned off again, plugged the charger and it looks like was chargin, when i turned on again it was at 12%, like the charger just discharge it xD. After that the problem began, the battery icon shows like charging when unplugged....
Looks like i managed to clean it with a needle, now the chargin notification is gone, and i can transfer files via USB to my laptop, but still i cant charge with AC :-/
And when i plug the usb cable, the notification icon comes again :-/

After some time my charge port started giving me issues again. I tried messing around with it but all I did was break it. Eventually I bought a replacement flex cable and ended up installing it myself. Very easy to do. Looked up a video on YouTube and in 10 minutes my phone was charging again.

I had to replace my micro usb charging port
When my phone wouldnt stop charging after being disconnected i ended up solving the issue by going here for the part and tools which is $5 posted.

Starting two days ago, my phone will only take a charge when it is off. When it is on, it acts like nothing is happening when I plug it in, although sometimes it flashes the charging symbol whether the charger is plugged in or not. I have the latest atop build, although I have been running the rom for a couple weeks with no problems. Also, the gps struggles at times. Any ideas?

I had this problem too. Was gonna take it back to Sprint so I Odined back stock and it's started charging. So try doing that. It worked for me.

My wife had that issue when we first got her phone. Ended up re flashing the ROM. I still ended up getting it replaced by VZW since it had the issue with dropping signal.
Had this issue with my VZW Gnex. It looks like it is charging when it is off but I'm willing to bet it charges really slowly. There's a defect on GNEX models where the pin on the connector gets bent down.
Try either using the stock charger as it forces the pin up a bit or search on xda for this same issue. I fixed it by using a thin knife blade and gently pushing up the connector. I only had to do it once and it worked well.

Hi, I've been having this problem since a couple of days and this post just remembered me that I had run into the same issue in my very old Motorola Milestone. Here's what I did then and what I did now on my GNex, and I think i've found a solution.
You'll need a needle (the thinner the better) and a can of electronic cleaner, if you've ever opened a PC to clean the memories and slots, this is the one you've used alongside the compressed air can. You can find this on your local electronics shop, and it shouldn't be too expensive (think of an equivalent of RadioShack, since in my country there's no RadioShack).
Now, let's get on with it.
Turn off your GNex and pull out the battery.
Now, VERY GENTLY, with the tip of the needle try to pick out all or the majority of the lint deposited in the charging port. You'd be amazed.
To wrap up, apply a bit of the electronic cleaner into the charging port, clean with a cloth the excess on the chassis of the phone (do NOT use the cloth into the charging port, because in doing so you'll risk leaving lint behind) and let the charging port dry for 5 or 10 seconds, it evaporates really quickly.
Now put the battery back in and power on the phone once more. Let it fully boot and plug your charger in (as recommended in this post, you may want to use the one that came with the phone). In my case it worked.
Not sure if it's definitive solution but it does work now. This happened to me about a month ago running AOKP, I thought it was the rom doing some funny bussiness with my phone, so I switched to Paranoid Android, and it happened once more the day before yesterday. I was ready to switch roms today once more but decided to Google around and again, thankfully I came across erodriguez87's post which reminded me of what I did in the past. I'll update this post for this next month to let you know if the issue happened again or not, to encourage people to apply this solution (or not). Cheers.

I used a toothpick to bend it up slightly (towards the screen). I didn't want to use anything metallic in case shorting the connectors might cause damage.

As everybody here I am having this very same problem, not charging anywhere (mains or pc), even with stock cable and charger.
However, when I tried the eSATA port it worked fine, and I can access the phone normally

I had the charger read normal USB ports and charger.
I have done these steps so far, so I guess they must be the solution, however I do not know if the solution is permanent or as some people pointed out it is a come-and-go problem, anyway here are the steps:
- Restart bootloader ( shutdown your phone and hit all three buttons together - GNEX - and press volume down button once and then power button, then volume up and power to start phone again).
- Enable Developer Options ( You do this by tapping several times on the Build Number in About Phone)
- Enable USB debugging in Developer Options.
Again, I don't know which solved the problem, and if it is a permanent one, anyway try it and let me know the result
My son is having exactly the same problem, his Galaxy Nexus only charges when it is turned off.
I found a solution (sort of)....
I discovered that when I put the charger in the wall socket 3 times quickly after eachother (like: tak tak tak) and leave it in the third time, it sometimes starts to charge.
maybe you have to try it a few times to see it work, it doesn't always work.
It should work within 10 times trying i would say.

it is not accepting any charge anymore, tried diffrent chargers, cables, even on my pc but nothing. The orange charging LED just flashes slowly on and off...
Any ideas?

Yes, unfortunately it is a known hardware issue. Over time, the charging port starts coming loose. Like mentioned above, you CAN fix it yourself. There are video tutorials on YouTube and the replacement part can be had for under $10. If your device is still under warranty, Verizon will replace the phone. If it's not under warranty (or if you just want to give it a go), the port replacement process is pretty straightforward.
I might give it a try. Does anybody have a video or a link?
The weird thing is, that the battery is discharging very fast, could it be just a bad battery?

Could b the back door on your inc 2. I believe you need the back door on to charge cuz it goes thru contacts on the back. I dropped mine one day and charging and getting signal was almost impossible till I figured that out and bought a new one

The issue stems from regular use. The charging port is essentially held in place only by the connections to the board. Repeatedly plugging and unplugging the power cable causes it to break over time.

Def need to replace it. Same issues I was having at one point with it randomly taking charge. I found that if the charger is plugged in a held a certain level ( i placed the phone on a flat surface with a book under the cord for leverage) it would charge just fine.
If you are rooted and sending back, make sure you revert to stock to avoid any annoyances.
I've managed to solve this issue without messing around with the phone's innards (the last time I did it was a disaster and I was forced to buy an entirely new phone). It's not pretty, but if you twist a rubber band around the micro usb end of your charger, plug your phone in, twist that same rubber band around the phone itself, and make sure the connection very tight, you might get some more life out of your charger port.
Ugh. I can't wait for my upgrade.

While, I give you major kudos points for MacGuyver-ing a solution, that's more of a quick band-aid than a real fix. I could imagine having a rubber band around the phone could potentially hinder usage.
But hey, way to think outside the box! :good:

Thank you. You're telling me. Do you know how hard it is to use a touch screen with a rubber band across it? Oy.
Right. The caveat here, of course, is that this technique will only help charge your phone until the charging port becomes so disconnected from the board that no amount of force will reestablish this contact. And this will inevitably happen because you're going to keep plugging and unplugging your phone from the charger which is what created the issue in the first place.
If you know you have big, sweaty, idiot hands (like me) that are going to destroy your phone if you take it apart (like me) and you can tough it out: more power to you. The other alternative is to buy an external battery charger and a second battery. The disadvantages here are pretty obvious (e.g. you have to carry a second battery around; if you forget a second battery, you can't ask another Android user to borrow their phone charger, etc.).

My phone suddenly stopped charging yesterday night. There is no physical or water damage to the handset. USB on the computer wont detect it and it wont even charge. I have tried changing roms too but it wont get detected. I bought the device from newegg and i have a warranty for replacement till jan 31st but now since usb is not being detected i cannot flash stock rom via odin. I tried googling for methods to flash stock rom without using usb cable but there is nothing that i can find. Please can anyone help me on this ?

Yes I tried with 3 different USB cables. It just started charging but the red led is sometime dark red and sometimes kinda weak. It seems to me like the port has shorted. There was a crazy snow storm here yesterday and so it water vapor might be shorting the port. I just wanna get back to stock rom.
Please help someone help me.. I've even tried discharging the capacitors by removing the battery and pressing the power button for a min or two.

What about mobile odin? It shoukd allow you to install the stock rom through your sd card.

I have the rom ALJ3 on my sd card and when i go to odin by pressing the volume down+home+ power i cant see the rom there. It just says downloading. O dont know if i am doing something wrong here
Solved
Since I suspected it to be water vapor I heated my phone over the gas stove(held it in my hand leaving some distance between the stove and the phone) once it became hot the water vapor must have evaporated and my phone started charging and got connected to the computer as well.
Guess the snow storm was the culprit. I reverted back to stock rom successfully as well.

Im glad it worked out for you. I know this wouldnt be fair thing to do but if you get the chance id suggest you return or exchange it as im sure some damage is already done and it will probably reappear again in the near future. Good luck.

Is there a red faint led sensor on top when u try to power it on ?

Just encountered this problem two days ago and I am confused why this happened.
My N7100 wont charge and could not be detected in my desktop/laptop.
In my case, I charged my phone since it was below 20%.
When I plug it in, the symbol indicated it was charging.
An hour later, when I checked my phone, it wasn't charging at all.
Even the charging indicator was off, and the battery symbol has no "lightning".
I tried different chargers, wall outlet, even in the computer.
Still no luck.
I did a factory reset, thinking it was a ROM issue, still nothing.
Any help/suggestions/recommendations is highly welcome.
Did anybody solve this issue, It is happening to mine... No dropping, accidents or moisture...
i'm also having this issue. tried several different chargers, light says charging, in settings under battery it says charging but it's not. i'm just losing more power. tried charging with phone off and same thing. tried cleaning port,nothing. i don't know if the battery is just shot or i need the usb port replaced.
Literally just started for me right now, and I bought the phone off Swappa like a month ago...The USB flex is $20 and easy to replace, but I want to know if there's an actual fix. No soldering required.
EDIT: Just plugged it into my Samsung charger and it started work again randomly... Doesn't work with the dollar store cable I was using though. Could be that the cable went bad?
Same here for a week
It started a week ago when I tried a $5 dollar cable/charger from eBay. Now I tried a dozen cable all of them work with another phone. It was random not charging one day, charging the other day. But since yesterday, fails to work completely, and battery fully drained.
Yesterday evening I tried a charger/cable from a friend and it seemed to work, so i'll try again today and provide an update later.
U have encountered the issue before. Brought it to the service Centre for repair. When I got it back from the Centre, they told me that the sub motherboard was faulty. Hope this helps.

The part to replace is like 20 bucks on eBay. It's extremely easy to replace. Just YouTube it.

You're probably joking about being easy, it's very simple but not easy as shown on this video. And without appropriate tool, it's just heading for trouble.
Anyway I searched for the replacement part and the screw driver, it's about 60$, delivery in Europe included, couldn't find the part except in the US. The USB charger is $16, shipping $30, plus the screw driver 11€+5€ local.
However couldn't find the "whatever the name is of this blue flat stuff" to remove the display. Anyone knows how it's named?

It's a prying tool. They're cheap on eBay also. They're just plastic. You can use your fingernails if they're long enough.
Also I wasn't joking. It's a regular philips screwdriver (cross, but very small). It's the same one used to open the iPhone 4/4S (confirmed by me). After you take out the 6 or so screws from under the battery cover, you just run the prying tool through the gap along the display, and lift the midsection off. With the board exposed, unscrew the piece of plastic covering the USB flex and take it off. Then just pop off the flex cable and pop the new one in. Do everything backwards and there you go.
If you look for a kit to open the iPhone 4/4S, you'll get the screwdriver and plastic prying tool. I don't know where you're located but the part cost me $18 shipped. However for me it was a waste of time because the Note 2 I bought from eBay had its IMEI blacklisted, among other issues. So I returned it.

Thanks for the prying tool name, found a kit in the US for $12 including shipping and $2 in Hong-Kong
Searched again for the charger port, and found it in the EU for $15 and $8 in Hong-Kong
The procedure is very simple, but not easy, requires to be very gentle and patient (as the video shows), not sure I have both. Including my bad sight, it's going to be tough, but there won't be a local repair shop to top that pricing!
EDIT: They had to change the IMEI instead, couldn't they actually whitelist it?
