[Q] Rooting with Windows XP? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I plan on rooting my Epic to cwm3/ext4 and all, but the only PC I have in my house is a Windows XP. My question is, will the Samsung Drivers work on an old Windows XP computer, and if so, would you recommend it?
Thanks.

I think so I don't see it being a problem since the drivers are made for windows in general
So I think you'll be ok

I guess you're right. I'm just worried that it's too old. I'll probably hold off for a bit until I get further confirmations. Thanks though.

It will work fine on windows xp as long as your system recognizes your epic.

That's my problem I'm screwed if my phone crashes on me because my computer running XP home won't recognize my phone except for mass storage, that's about it haha

Windows XP is fine. Just install.the drivers.
Sent From My Evo Killer!

The drivers work fine on XP/Vista/7.
I have one-clicked, odined, adb-ed and so on from both XP and 7 machines.

Easiest way to determine if your drivers are good is to run Odin and put your phone into download mode (boot holding the 1 key) and then plug it in. If a com port shows up in Odin you are good to go.

That's what my problem has been. The on click worked and mass storage works but when I try to put into download mode computer comes back with not recognized or malfunctioning so might just be the computer I'm not sure

Please help

I recently tried to put the DI18 modem on my 2.2 and it took me back to 2.1. So I went back to 2.2 and in th process I lost my root, and I'm getting force close messages. And I try to reroot my device to switch to a back up of my old 2.2 butnone of the drivers will work, and I've tried it on 3 computer 2 with 7 one wth xp and ill try on vista when my computer works. I've also tried the z4root app but it just force closes and does nothing. What can I do? Or does anyone have advice.... I posted this somewhere else and since I'm new I guess I put it on the wrong section

Once you get your connection issues resolved, Odin is your friend.
Yea I first put dk28 using odin in like november... But idk my device don't read now

Uninstall the device from your computer via Device Manager. Then install the Sammy drivers, then plug your phone in.

[Q] unrevoked 3 doesn't even detect my EVO 4g

I've rebooted both my Mac and my EVO several times. I've also uninstalled UR3 and reinstalled the .dmg file several times.
I plug the phone into the USB and select USB debugging and nothing ever changes. Can anybody help me out?
My EVO radio version is 2.15.00.11.19 and that qualifies!
Any help would be appreciated.
Im on windows, but I know you have to install the unrevoked drivers on windows. Is the mac maybe the same?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
According to everything I've seen, the drivers are "built in" on the Mac!
Yea I think ive seen that too. Hmmm...have you tried fastboot usb mode? I never had to do it, but I Think (dont quote me ) you can use unrevoked via the fastboot, maybe search around for unrevoked via fastboot. Might be something there

I run bootcamp on this machine, so I am trying to do it using the Winders installer right now. Let's see....
Ok, I'm in the middle of it right now. Thing is rebooting as I type this on my Xoom.

It's on the clock work mod recovery screen. Oh crap, I need to watch the rest of the video real quick. Lol

So, evidently, some of these EVO units won't work on the Mac side. I successfully rooted the device using bootcamp and Winders 7...dang it.
try another cable...

It wouldn't have been the cable if it worked on Winders and not Mac, would it?

Phone recognized as unknown device when in download mode?

So I cannot for the life of me get my windows 7 64 bit to recognize my phone in download mode. I have installed and uninstalled and installed the samsung mobile driver to no avail. When I try to use the extracted drivers I get a "the best driver is already installed" message. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Www.samsung.com/support. Click on sprint, d700, then press select. Select "software". Then to the very right click on the little file and it will download the drivers.
Before u do this, uninstall ur so called existing drivers.

Also make sure you are using the ports that are directly hooked to the motherboard (the back)... and not the stock cable... use an htc or blackberry or some other heavy duty cable... these epics are very finicky!

Biggorron: how exactly do you advance install drivers? When I uninstall the unknown device it doesn't show up again until I scan for new hardware. Then it automatically installs a dummy driver for "unknown device"
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Schno, the method that I have stated above. That manually installs the appropriate drivers needed.

all you need is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
if the goal is to return to stock, why are you even messing around in recovery?? ... nvm. just read the thread i gave you. 100% positive that you'll make it this time. uninstall all drivers, reboot, then start the procedure, while efrant guides you to the light.
No I mean I can't even get to my pictures nothing shows up so there's no way to install the driver but thanks

provide more info please. current rom, kernel, we already you're on sprint.
I'm sorry, if you tested another usb cable and you're perfectly sure you have fastboot and drivers for fastboot interface correctly installed, and already learned how to use the android/nexus/google tools, like adb and fastboot, then I think you need to read some of this. read it all. please. so that you can enjoy your device.

USB cable broken? Does the phone charge when you plug it in? Try another USB cable.

Go look at the guide on how to unbrick your phone in this Forum. It is pretty straight forward.

Tried.. Useless the program doesn't respond and my phone doesn't even get recognized..
Make sure you have the drivers installed. I've also noticed that it doesn't always work on a USB 3.0 port, try it on a 2.0 one. I've never had the application crash on me... Are you running Windows 7/8?
