Incompatible charger warning - Thunderbolt Accessories

Just wanting to know if anyone else has run into this issue... I bought a USB car charger on Monoprice before getting the Thunderbolt. When I plus it into my phone however, it won't charge and I receive a pop-up warning about incompatible chargers damaging battery. So, what non-OEM charters tend to work best with HTC phones?

It's hit and miss, but if you get that, don't use the cable/charger. I got that with my INC once when I was using a blackberry micro usb cable to charge. It did horrible and barely charged anything in 30 minutes.

Roger. I'll see if Monoprice will let me return the charger. I ordered two of them, and the other one my wife uses works fine. Thanks!

I have a microUSB charger from ATT that I've been for a year or two. Works great with my thunderbolt, though slow. No errors or warnings from it.
It definitely doesn't produce enough power to charger while in hotspot mode.

Your gonna want a charger that charges at a rate of 1000ma or 1A, older chargers for non smart phones and even Blackberry, dont put out that much. My blackberry chargers only put out 700ma. It would charge it, but a lot slower.

Yeah, the charger I got is rated for that: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10826&cs_id=1082602&p_id=6765&seq=1&format=3#specification

Charger for the car?

Hey everyone,
I'm planning on buying a car charger for my phone soon as I take a lot of road trips and now that I finally have a phone with navigation I thought this would be really handy to have.
My question is: What is the best cell phone charger? What should I be looking for? I hear that some chargers can burn out the battery if left in for too long.
Also, I'd like a charger that would be able to power my ipod as well.
Thanks!
Edit:
I was browsing around and saw this one:

Look in the captivate general thread for this discussion ...
Why would this be in general? this is an accessory is it not..?
the only thing I can say about that is ...

The answer your question is there regardless.
The answer to your question is a bit more involved than yes or no, and involves USB standards.
Perhaps it should be moved ... not my call to make.
i just bought this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230503161988
for $8 not bad
I got mine free from Wal-mart when I bought my captivate and it does a good job of charging it.

Got this same exact one and a blackberry micro usb charger. Works great.
For the love of God don't cheap out... Been there, done that, don't waste the $$$.
Cables that work for $1.70:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QATRCA/ref=oss_product
A quality Griffin charger for $11.50:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q2FM5E/ref=oss_product
You haven't by chance verified that the $1.70 cable fits well in the Captivate slot?
I only ask because I have a mini-to-micro USB adapter I'm using with a mini USB cable right now and it appears to fit in fine. Unfortunately in reality the plastic around the male piece blocks it from slotting in fully and I have to fiddle with it to ensure it's in well enough to charge. Moving the phone in the slightest can dislodge it and sever the connection.
I'd like to buy this cable to work with my current home/car USB chargers but wanted to make sure it wouldn't have the same issue.
I can't post a URL yet so replace x's with t's to see my illustration: hxxp://imgur.com/TCi5h.jpg

It's not the over charging that's the problem, it's the functioning
AT&T not as good as Samsung
I bought the AT&T branded Captivate car charger at the AT&T store, but I've noticed that it doesn't fit into the phone's slot as smoothly as the wall charger that came with the phone. Because of battery power decrease problems, I've just ordered another wall charger from the Samsung website (for use at work) instead of getting a 'generic' one from AT&T.

Car charger?

Picking up my phone on Monday, and was planning on getting the car charger. But before I spent the extra $30 I figured I would ask you guys. Is it just a standard mini USB? (not sure if mini or micro is the right term).
For instance I found one on Amazon (I can't post the link because I've only been a lurker here until this point). It's called "Premium Car Charger For HTC ThunderBolt"
Product Features
Brand New IC Chip Controlled Plug in Car Charger
State of the art Intelligent Chip circuit prevents overcharging
Conveniently charge your HTC ThunderBolt battery while your drive
Non interrupted charging, even while the HTC ThunderBolt is in use
Essential accessory in case of car accident or another emergency
Thanks in advance, I'd just rather not give Verizon any more $$ then I have to
micro usb is what you want (different from mini), and the home charger outputs 5V and 1A (same as
1000 mA) so you want a car charger that will output the same voltage and close to the same amperage. i used a 750mA car charger for my evo and it was a noticeably slower charge.

Another +1 for the Motorola charger. Its high quality. I have noticed the plug gets a little loose after a lot of use and wont provide a good connection. I just squeeze the Jack a little with some pliers and that tightens up the fit again.

Wall chargers - anything special between different kinds?

My chargers are all ripped somewhere and not charging right so I'm going to buy a new one. Besides the amps, are there any difference between chargers? My suggestion is to buy chargear and long cable separate. I think 6 feet is the longest microusb cable I have seen
Make sure it has data transfer capabilities. Although most do I have gotten one in the past that was a charge only cable.

I too use generic chargers and cables. As long as the specs of the stock charger are met (voltage and amps), you should be fine. I usually get my gear from monoprice.com. Their stuff is very cheap and I haven't had a problem with it [yet]!

I have used multiple chargers that I had with Nokia devices and in car I three different "no name" chargers, all of them work as should. With one Nokia charger I get notification that tells that charging isn't that fast as it could with different charger.
I've used the chargers I had from my Samsung Epic. They work fine. Also, the iHome two port usb wall charger I got at Wal-Mart does great with one of the cables I still had laying around. Sometimes I use the charger at work that came with our Kyocera DirectConnect phones.
I think the key is just to make sure any charger you use is at least 1amp.

I'd order a charger from ebay, and it takes about 6 hours to charge the phone.
Also, something is wrong because when I pick up the phone, I feel something weird on the speaker.
So I recommend to use the original one ! It takes less than 3 hours to charge the phone.
I use the one from my old s3. Actually charges faster than the original

Any wall charger with a 1A (Amp) output will be ideal for the One. A lot of the "rapid" chargers have about a 500 - 650mA (milliamp) output (about half of the power of the genuine charger). It won't do any damage if it's lower than 1A, but it will take a lot longer to charge it.
Don't be cheap on chargers though, the cheaper the charger, the more likely it will be to fail after a month, and potentially damage your charging port.
Thanks for the responses! I will look into chargers with 1.0 A charging, I have been using an LG charger that my dad had laying around.
I am no fan of verizion at all and didn't feel like driving to my local att store so..
I bought a 5v/2.1amp Verizon charger for 15$
6' long cord with an led light at the tip to help light up the usb port on the phone when trying to plug in. Also the base has an led light which lights up to let you know when the device is fully charged

I think using a >1 A charger may damage our batteries in the long run. I wouldn't recommend going beyond the 1 A of the stock charger.

False. Current is taken, not given, meaning the phone only pulls 1 amp from a 2A charger. I have verified this personally using Battery Monitor Widget. It displays the current charge/discharge current and reads 1A with my 2A charger.
I'm surprised so many people have problems with chargers. I have used Samsung, Asus, and some random Walmart chargers, and they all have worked at 1A. Maybe the people with problems are using really crappy or broken chargers?
I've been using an LG Charger, 4.8V and 1.0 A.
As far as i know, it doesn't really matter if its 1 or 2 amp, since its just the max output and it depends on the phone to use a certain ammount of amps. Voltage is what is important when it comes to providing a secure charging i think.
