[ROM][v1.0.2]Orange Sense- Ported Sense (Desire Z) on EXT4 - Faux123 [Mar-25-2011] - myTouch 4G Android Development

Critical Kernel Patch:
You MUST Apply this PATCH first In order to upgrade your ROM with future kernel updates from me...(You only need to do this EXACTLY 1 time, then afterwards you may update to my new kernel whenever they are available)
[Kernel Update Instructions]
This is my second ROM cooking... The reason I created this ROM is NOT TO COMPETE with anyone else, it is mainly for myself. I wanted a pure stock Sense ROM that's STABLE and FAST but I also wanted to try something slightly different (And I needed a stable pure stock Sense ROM for myself to test my kernels against.)
I WON'T BE Updating this ROM unless something is Seriously WRONG with it...
(I WON'T BE taking FEATURE REQUESTS and such, most can be added by yourself from various mods found in the Theme and Apps sub forum )
So here it is: Orange Sense ?!?!?!?
Why the name:
Because ClockworkMod Recovery (3.0.0.5+) for Gingerbread is colored Orange for EXT 4 partitions and since this ROM uses EXT 4 File System (FS) as its primary FS, I decided to name it this way.
So what is in this Orange Sense?
[NOTE: This is a FROYO BASED (Android 2.2.1) Sense 2.0 Implementation. This is NOT the NEW Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) Sense which is 2.1 ]
1. Completely rebuilt from Stock Desire Z Image hosted here (RUU_Vision_hTC_Asia_HK_CHT_1.84.708.1, the last one)
2. Uses exclusively EXT 4 FS
3. Moved all optional Apps to /data/app partition for easy uninstall (including most Google Apps)
4. Rooted, /system set to RW by default
5. Deodexed, Zip aligned all /system/apps and framework files using ROM kitchen from fellow XDA member.
6. Dalvik memory boosted from default 24MB to 36MB
7. Few CFS tweaks
8. Added WiFi Calling, Swype and Qik video chat.
I want to [Thank] the following:
Evil D for inspiring me to port a Non-Glacier ROM to MT4G. I also KANGED his HTC Camera App to work with FFC and Back cameras and I used his Desire Z port as a guide/reference when I was porting this version.
rmk40 for super user / sqlite3 hack that I KANGED to fix the SU/sqlite3 FCs on ported Sense ROMs.
dsixda for the easy to use ROM kitchen (highly recommended to anyone interested in cooking their own ROM, it CAN'T be easier than what he provided)
Installation:
The File ==> Orange Sense Version 1.0.2 <==
Patch 1: Kernel PATCH (use for updating to newer kernels)
Patch 2: wpa_supplicant Patch (use for fixing WiFi connection issues when connecting to hidden SSID routers)
WARNING: The INSTALLER WILL ERASE ALL USER DATA AND SYSTEM DATA!!!
Requirement: MUST HAVE CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY 3.0.0.5 or 3.0.0.6 (preferred)
1. Reboot into recovery
2. Wipe Cache Partition
3. Install zip from SDCard
4. Once installation is completed, select Reboot System Now
Note: Upon first reboot may take up to 4~6 mins.
Patch Note: To apply patch, reboot into recovery, install the patch zip file, then reboot...
The following pre-installed Apps will need to be updated MANUALLY from Market by searching for their names:
Adobe Reader
Facebook (Not the built-in integrated Sense version)
Twitter (Not the built-in integrated Sense version)
Youtube
Google Mail
Google Search
Google Maps
Google Street
Google VoiceSearch
Qik Video Chat
or they can all be easily un-installed because they are NO LONGER System Apps.
Bugs/Incompatibilities:
1. Any Real-Time Streaming Video Player will have a yellow/blue play icon stuck in the middle of video (annoying but still watchable). This is due to framework / library mismatch... I will investigate on this but not super high priority...
2. Pure Sense Framework is HUGE... I can't test all combinations, so there might be bugs here and there... Report them on this thread and I try to address them (Remember this is a PORT of a ROM designed for another phone... so things may not lined up completely.)
Standard Disclaimer: Not responsible for bricking your phone, voiding your warranty, or any other pain or suffering you may feel as result of using this ROM or Kernel!!!

All official themes should work and all MODs if done correctly for pure sense framework should work (but no guarantees... you just have to make sure the modder is good and didn't make any mistakes)

Man I love this rom so much it's awesome. Thanks for the great work! The only bug I see so far is when I'm playing music through the HTC music player in the notification tray it doesn't say what I'm listening to. Instead it just says "plugin_file_path" Other then that everything is working fine

LOL, it's funny you posted this.. because I am running it right now at work and listening to music and the name is prefect... I don't know why you are seeing that...

Ok so I put music on my SD card and now it's working fine. Earlier I was streaming from my pc and it was saying that. Maybe it's just because I was streaming music? Sorry I forgot to clarify

cool!.......
owh hell yeah thanks arnoslag!
first report I've received from the field, saj222 says "it boots!"
that's all I know so far...
Thanks for the port Arnoslag!
Yes it booted. After it settled down I ATTEMPTED to install Fly kernel 13, but the phone didn't boot up afterwards. I installed Las Venturax 0.6.2 and everything was fine again.
Some observations (in no particular order):
-camera seems to sort of work. I got a FC when trying to take a picture. Did not try video.
-during syncing of gmail account the phone was very slugglish but this was expected
-removed all the sense widgets except the flip clock and it seemed to help speed up the ROM's responsiveness... as did turning off animations. edit: I removed the flip clock too. edit#2: I used setcpu to crank up the min and max to 652MHz and it has helped the unlock ring and general usage. ring unlock is still a little laggy.
-wifi works fine, so does 3G data
-have had a couple of superuser FC's when going into setcpu
-in one instance I received a phone call and hung up after 4 seconds. The phone got really slow and then I got a sense FC which made sense restart.
-whatever version of market is on this ROM is slow
-there is no web browser included in this ROM
~~~~~~~~~~~
edit: was trying to download Gmaps from the market over wifi when market hung and gave me an FC for com.android.mms
u think is it possible to revert back to older Market? the newer Market seems slow on loading, probably heavy on graphics..
i've mirrored the rom on my server here.
the camera can take a pic, but have no zoom function. weather animations seems lacking its animation(like fog animation, cloudy animation). only rain animation is visible(well, my place won't snow, it's near equator).
I'm offering free hosting for your rom and you made a affiliate link for it ?
Congrats arnoslag
[ROM]MIUI v4[ICS][Version-1.5]
Here is MIUI v4 (ICS) ROM i cooked a while back
Ported from:
---Ported from Hero CDMA MIUI v4
---Based on jordfaz's CM9
---Some stuff from Henry_01's MIUI port
---Using Las Venturas 1.2 kernel by riemer
Problems:
---APNs
---Wi-Fi signal notification always on low
---Root
---Headset
---Camera
---Keyboard force closes
---Gallery, use QuickPic
---Something denies root to UMS
---ROM is slow
---Some clocks need resizing
---Sometimes ROM does a hot reboot
---Cant save screenshot
---Sometimes image blurs when scrolling through homescreens (After 1 or 2 reboots it becomes ok)
How to install:
---Download the rom and put it on your SD card
---Reboot to clockworkmod
---Wipe data, wipe cache
---Go to advanced tab/Wipe dalvik cache
---Flash the ROM
---Reboot and say hello to your new ROM
Tips:
---When you first boot the ROM give it a few minutes then reboot it
---Remember to allow root in MIUI permissions app
---In launcher settings disable icon shadows, that should make it faster
Credits:
---Henry_01
---whoshotjr2006
---ajrty33
---deba1994 (Helped me a lot)
---jordfaz (Made an awsome CM9 ROM, and helped a lot)
"GC_EXPLICIT freed 40K, 54% free 1190K/2560K, paused 1ms+1ms" this is not an issue. that's the internal task killer.
I know, but it looks like it's a bit over killing
EDIT. My bad it isnt doing it anymore
I think i can fix native USB mounting like i have in my paranoid android port (will upload soon), and have you tried my init.d scripts from my cm9 rom (apart from loopy smoothness tweak) for speed tweaks if they arent in there already
Glad you finally got it working
Thanks for your hard work, looks great...
I copied the whole folder init.d from your CM9. I'll try to copy sysctl.conf. I pushed it to my phone last night and it got into bootloop. I'll try to cook an alpha ROM with your sysctl.conf in it.
kemoba - try to look at this post: HERE
it is another issue than what you have BUT it might work in this case also. Just take that file called "eri.xml" from another ROM - shpongle or whatever and replace it see if it works then
L.E: took a look into your build.prop.
you have this line: rild.libpath = /system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
try making it like this rild.libpath=/system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
i just got my hero today, im going to give this rom a chance
tried to fix gsm..like wrote 1ceb0x in jb thread..flashing it now...will say soon if it works or not))
EDIT: nope, it doesn't want to work properly(((it can search networks operators but can't connect automatically to them(( in your rom this (Try to go to settings/more/mobile networks and try to search networks operators. If it doesnt find anything dont panic it doesnt find anything to me either and try search networks not search automatically. It should work.) also doesn't work for me...i should search automatically and it works)) i have signal but don't have data(( any ideas how to fix this?? and have you tried to put in your rom tweaks from jordfaz's aokp rom for more speed??
miui roms are a pain in the butt lol what should work never does like it should.
I tried all the speed tweaks i could find and none is working, i have some ideas on how to fix network, ill try them today. MIUI was and will remain tough to port and make it work
Any progress?
[ROM] NardROM 0.4 UCL9 (not supported)
Note, I have moved to the Galaxy S Relay 4G. I still have a Glide but there will be no further development here.
Welcome to NardROM. I want to remind you that flashing this may void your warranty. Use at your own risk. This ROM is experimental. It is fully functioning but some things are works in progress.
Read post 2 to find out how this differs from stock. This ROM is based on the L9 build of ICS, but contains smidgens of Gingerbread (the modem, and the keyboard light controller, and the startup animation), as well as the LH2 kernel.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR A NEW INSTALL:
1. Flash the official ICS using Kies or Odin. You may be able to skip this step but it's best to start clean.
2. Install CWMR from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766533 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458153
I personally use version 5.
3. Copy the NardROM 0.2 and the 0.4 files to your phone's internal storage.
4. Flash the NardROM 0.2 with CWMR. This step will wipe your installed apps so make backups with Titanium. DO NOT RESTORE DATA ON SYSTEM APPS. Your definition of a system app can vary from Samsung's, for example, Facebook is a system app to Samsung
5. Reboot phone.
6. At the prompt do set up your phone, instead, reboot back into CWMR.
7. Flash NardROM 0.4
8. Reboot.
9. Click next.
10. Tap your screen to prevent it from going to sleep and grant phone superuser access.
11. Enjoy your new phone.
12. If you wish to use Toggle 2G, you should set it to "Data off to switch"
Upgrade instructions:
NardROM 0.1: Follow instructions for new install, above
NardROM 0.2 or 0.3: Just flash the update
NardROM 0.2
NardROM 0.4
Well feel free to bug test for me, and add ideas. And borrow stuff from me is fine. Themes are where most roms differ anyway. My theme is "stock" for now.
well i installed and running GREAT! testing a few things will report back... also anyone wanting if u have to readd CWM u do not it doesnt wipe that. idk if nard said that or not
Are the deodexed files here otherwise unchanged from stock? I've been meaning to deodex the stock rom so I could get around to removing the carrier branding in the status bar, but if you've already done the work...
added nova launcher and OMG its super nice... just an idea is put nova as default and take out TW launcher.. IMO
They're also re-signed. Mixing system apks with different signatures might cause problems. In any case let me know what you discover in that regard and I'll throw it into the ROM.
Forgot to mention one thing: Need to set Toggle 2G to "Data off to switch" to get it to work.
Simply replacing all of them should avoid any mixing... I'll let you know what I come up with, but was just going to follow this guide.
There's some funkiness setting up the Toggle 2G root permissions the first time. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and reboot and it should never bother you again,
[ROM] Mi-Roid {PORT} MiuiAndroid v2.11.30 w/ Control Panel
I proudly present to you...... Mi-Roid
Mi-Roid is my port of the crespo MIUIAndroid weekly build with many additions, tweaks and mods added together for a great user experience. If there’s something you'd like added in feel free to post or pm me
For those of you wondering what Miui is.... that is a hard thing to describe but in a genreality it is a complete rebuild of android based on AOSP from the ground up. It has a build in theme manager that makes Cyanogen's look like childs play, you can change almost any little thing instead of applying an entire theme or you can apply an entire theme. It has build in virus scanning, autostart app control, flashlight app and all the goodies of cyanogen or other AOSP roms but in a whole new fashion. It is sort of IPhoneish but still feels like android not some apple product. If you dislike the launcher feel free to download any of your standard favourite launchers and use them, it'll free up some memory too.
Check out this video showing what Miui is
A few of my favorite features are listed below:
**While on the lockscreen if you press and hold home the flashlight will turn on for 30sec
**While on the homescren if you long press home the memory manager comes up to clear/free up memory
I plan on updating by Sunday night or Monday morning following the friday release of each weeks build. This will give me a few days to make sure the basics are working and to try and add features as i work a lot during the week and weekend gotta survive this cruel world somehow
If you have issues or questions please post them up here as someone may be able to help you on the forum before i check my PM's or get online to read/post.
Please Read the rest of this post and the ones below it for all info regarding issues and install before asking a question, i know it's pointless to ask this but maybe it'll save me one headache and at least one noob a thrasing from the senior members.
Previous Builds - will be posted soon
Install and Setup Directions Below in 2nd Post
Common Issues, Solutions and FAQ in 3rd Post
I advise doing a complete wipe for each build and not "dirty" flashing each weeks new build as this could cause issues.
If you are already running Miui you can also use the included backup tool to backup your apps and data, beware that this app does not backup paid for apps, so for example it will backup Titanium Backup but not the Pro Key so you'll have to download some apps via the market again
**Install Instructions***
1) Use Titanium Backup to backup your apps and data
2) Download the latest Mi-Roid version and place at the "Root" of your SD Card
3) Boot into Clockwork or whatever recovery you use and make a backup
4) Do a complete wipe, this would be your dalvik cache, cache, data, system, & boot.
5) Select the Install zip from SD option
6) Select the latest Mi-Roid version you just downloaded
6a) ***Optional*** Install Kernel Of Choice
7) Once install is completed reboot the system and let it boot up
8) After the system has booted up you can reboot into Clockwork and restore your data
***** BEWARE THERE IS A 30 SECOND TO 1 MINUTE LONG BLACK SCREEN BEFORE THE MIUI.US BOOT IMAGE COMES ON. THIS IS NORMAL, JUST WAIT A MINUTE AND YOU'RE BOOT UP WILL START****
***Things to do Upon 1st boot***
-Open MiuiStats from the pulldown and save the preferance to enable reporting, this lets Miui know we're using their ROM and to keep making it for us
-Open the Download Manager and go into the Settings and set the warning limit to 50mb and then turn off the Data download prompt to stop the market not letting you download huge apps. it will only give you a warning to use wifi on files over 50MB, but if uncheck the download on wifi only button and click proceed it'll download even those.
-Open the Play Store and sign into your Google Account
-While everything is Syncing open up Settings and select your google account. Select the option "Location &Settings" and turn it on. This will allow Google Maps and all other Google Services to use GPS for location locks, if you don't do this then GPS will work for all other apps but Google ones
-Open the Permission Manager, this is Superuser for Miui, and click on Manager root apps and turn it on or else your apps won't get superuser permissions. there is a series of 4 or 5 questions it asks before you click accept to root access on apps, so beware.
-Download the following apps
- Voodoo Sound
- Script Manager - this is for supercharging
-Open the Camera as the 1st start up takes a few seconds to a minute to initialize and sometimes it will fc and you'll need to open it again and wait
-Reboot into Clockwork, fix permissions, and Enjoy MI-Roid
****Optional**** Open Script Manager and supercharge your phone - see the FAQ for some important info on supercharging do's and don'ts
-Reboot and Enjoy MI-Roid
I'll post more as i think about it and get to the FAQS section below later tonight and i have screen shots too, just very tired from porting the toolbox and work this weekend
*****FAQS******
Q) What Kernel Is Included with this Rom?
A) Matrix CFS v24
Q) Do I need to flash gapps over this?
A) Nope, the google account framework is included as well as the latest PlayStore.apk, just download whatever apps you want from the Play Store. However here is a link the latest GAPPS working on Miui
Q) When I Send A Text Over 160 characters the reciepient gets a garbled message
A) This won't happen anymore because i modified the app to convert a sms to an MMS as soon as you hit the 160 character limit
Q) How Do I Supercharge My Phone
A) Go here to and download the latest version from zeppelinrox's thread, be sure to thank him too. Once you have downloaded the latest v6 script place it at the "Root" of your SD card. Open up script manager, be sure to give it root access. Select the v6 supercharger scipt and mark the little su icon to run it as su. Click on run, and follow the on screen instructions.
*****This is very important, when setting up your drivers options, do not, i repeat DO NOT select to apply the "Miscellaneous Tweaks & 3G Enhancements", a better version of these are in my init.d scripts!!!!! You also don't need to apply the wheel alignment either as that is another script already provided****
Q) I see lots of apps running when i first start my phone and don't want some of them running
A) Go into the Security Center folder and open the App Manager app, you can use it to select what apps and their services start and run in the background at boot
Q) The stock lockscreen is laggy
A) Yes it is, this is widely known in the Miui community, but it has a plethora of options built into it. If you want a faster one download any v4 theme and go into the theme manager under the mix section and apply it. The same goes for just about any thing or apperance you don't like about stock Miui, you can apply whole themes or just select parts
Nice work. gonna have to try this
Do you need Miui gapps from the site or any gapps will do?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
you don't need gapps, the google framework for google accounts and playstore are included, any other gapps can be downloaded from the market. do not flash gapps from CM or other AOSP roms as you'll get a few apps that shouldn't be there
if for some reason someone needs a certain gapp let me know, but this is the NS4G a CDMA phone only available in the US so we shouldn't have any restrictions on apps
Great work. Thanks for the port.. I've been waiting to try out a JB build of MIUI. You just made my weekend.
No problem, the JB version of Miui is quite nice. if you are going to flash a custom kernel i had the least amount of issues with Mathkids Matrix v23, it has voodoo sound and blinking BLN built in. I just updated my FAQ post but i have had severe issues with several of the other kernels in terms of bluetooth and battery drain so beware
Wow.. finally someone port jb miui for nexus s 4G, thank you
Awesome... I love MIUI...
Can anyone post some screenshots?
Not bad! Going to give a run through.. Seems fine so far.
Screenshots attached as requested. This is right after first boot.
This looks AWESOME! I went back to stock jellybean, but I'm going to root and install this later! How does battery life seem so far? Yeah, yeah, I know, give it a couple of days for the kernel to settle, but still... xD
Can anyone trying this confirm if 4g works?
And battery.. Way too early to tell. I'm only an hour into using it.
Will you be releasing an add on pack. For DPI etc ....
haven't used miui in awhile does it still show high usage when u kill apps going to try when i get home wat kernel is everybody using thanks
sick. thanks for the confirmation.. on rasbean now but may have to give this a go....i miss miui and the ics version was crap, but the gb version didnt have 4g.
It's a little "heavy" feeling but MIUI isn't exactly a lightweight ROM so I expected that.. I had tried the ICS version and it was unbearable slow.. So far this is pretty damn good all things considering (feature filled custom JB ROM on 2 year old phone)
Nice ROM at lease jellybean miui is fast & smooth when compared to miui ICS which was way to laggy but miui is not my cup of tea I'm rocking Rasbean
Aoba_Pro_Honami: New Rom/Port for ION LT28i UB/LB
May I present to you another rom, Aoba_Pro_Honami. This is a port from Xperia S latest JB, 6.2.B.1.96. The base is my own deodexed and debloated Roger. I have done this port myself. You know what they say: it is easier to make things from scratch, as opposed to look for and fix mistakes by others.
This rom is specifically made for LT28i phones. Hence, you have an option for LTE in your mobile data settings. Both wifi and data work flawlessly on my locked LT28at. This rom has Honami framework including home, sounds and widgets. Dock has 2 additional icons.
This rom preserves most original apps. I only removed GoogleServicesFramework, GoogleFeedback, IddAgent and Facebook (see below)....
Description:
Own port of 6.2.B.1.96
Deodexed and prerooted
Data and Wifi work as they are supposed to: connections are fast and only limited by your hardware
Honami Framework and Home with Transparent Dock and 2 extra spaces in it
No black text on black background or white text on white background
Plenty of ram available: 300-350mb
Google Framework, GoogleFeedback, Iddagent and Facebook apps removed (see posts 9 and 10 in this thread for GAPPS)
APN file has many prepackaged apn configurations, thanks to Cyanogen guys
Credits:
I have done a lot of experimenting and tuning. So, it is difficult to say which honami framework I used. I believe I used the one by Niaboc79, so credit goes to him. To be on the safe side, I also give credit to Jjwrongjj and Benjamin24. Also credit goes to Hitfan for honami home with 2 extra spaces in dock. Please pm me if I forgot you.
Bugs: No fancy/schmancy claims of thunder, stability, vengeance, rapture and smoothness, while you can't boot the device, but everything works fine on my phone. I have tried my best, but there could be bugs: you tell me.
Instructions:
You must be rooted, have CWM Recovery and stock JB kernel on your device.
1. Enter recovery
2. Go to Mounts, mount System, Cache and Data
3. Format each. You may also do data wipe reset, but the above is much better to get rid of old staff.
4. Flash this rom.
5. You need Roger basebands to use LTE and other frequencies to the full extent. Remember, if you were on JB for LT28h, you must flash Roger baseband.
6. Let the rom settle, it will take up to 5-6 minutes for full boot the first time.
7. After running Setup wizard and connecting to data and wifi, go to Settings/Wifi/Advanced and make sure that the option Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to Always, otherwise, every time your screen goes off, wifi will disconnect. This is important for those using Sip Services. Also, to assure that your phone switches immediately from Wifi to Data, make sure that Avoid Poor Connections option is checked too. If you don't, your phone will stick to wifi even if there is very little signal, therefore, preventing switching to data.
WARNING: If you were on ICS, you will get a bootloop unless you upgrade to JB kernel and Roger basebands (untick everything but kernel and exclude everything but roger baseband) before or right after flashing and before rebooting.
As usual, I am not responsible for bricking your device. You are doing it at your own peril.
There are no "tweaks" that claim thunder and battery savings in this rom. There are no tweaks here that bring apps into ram by those who have very little knowledge of how Android shuts down apps that claim ram. So all those tweaks do is bring the app into ram, then the system shuts them down, then the script brings the app in again and gets shut down over and over again to result in stress on cpu and battery. This rom has all apps except facebook and google framework, which are responsible for draining your battery. In the version I use on my phone, I removed all Google apps, social apps, proxies, conversation, stock e-mail, browsers, anthall radios, various adapters, update, ota and other garbage... . I use Naked browser, textsecure, K9 mail and Adaway. I also use Xposed framework with Xprivacy. As a result, I have over 24hrs on a single charge with regular usage...
Downloading and will test extensively thanks and your logic on ram and "tweaks" makes complete sense btw
Great work friend..another rom and another joy for ion..
There are also 2 more original apps that may relate to Googleaps f/c. Googlefeedback and Iddagent. They also must be installed to system/apps with appropriate permissions.
Another option is to use GAPPS from custom roms like the ones from here:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
To sum up: either install the missing apps I provided in this and the previous post or get GAPPS for custom roms. In the latter case, you will have to first uninstall original GAPPS and then install new ones.
Vertical Battery Icon and Quick Settings
For those who would like to have Toggles and Quick Settings show up in display settings you can do this:
1. Get this modified Settings apk (modified by me); and
2. Download and flash in recovery Quick Settings by Jjwrongjj
Manually install Settings.apk with root explorer to system/apps with appropriate permissions and then flash Quick Settings in recovery. Wipe dalvik cache and reboot.
So does this not need the 96 kernel like some of the other ports? Don't guess it would hurt to try.
Actually there is a 96 kernel for the S and some of the Ion ports such as Existenz says to use it. Was just curies as I have Aoba black booted at the moment. Decided to go with it seeing as it was newer and seemed to be the better option for me. I must say it does run quite nice.
Still, there is no .96 kernel for Ion.This misunderstanding is fault of posters who do not change their ported roms installation manuals or description.
Also, you should probably try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485148, it is newer version of this ROM and has more fixes/optimizations.
