Need help, not an epic 4g person - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am a droid incredible person, already rooted and currently running cm7.
brother wants me to root his epic 4g.
he is looking for a stable rom and a battery saving kernel with all the same performance.
what are some that i can use?
thanks for your help.

inb4 "wrong section"

I'm rather amazed that you are clearly not a total noob since you have at least managed to flash CM but still posted a question in development...
Anyway, you would be best to wait a couple days for Roms and kernels based on the latest release (EC05), but if you have to flash something now I'd suggest Syndicate ROM

You guys that don't offer help are just as bad as this guy posting in the wrong section...
I'm running midnight rom, and its been giving me great performance and stability, much more so than syndicate. Over clocked to 1200, and have 66% battery life left with minimal use, 14 hours running.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

Syndicate is awesome it was my daily but when I switched to ec05 I had issues and tried VIPERom synergy which is an eb13 rom. It runs flawless with the ec05 modem. I'm not sure if the issue with syndicate rom was the rom since it is eb13 and not ec05 or something I did wrong in the process but VIPERrom(also eb13 but again, runs great on ec05) has been awesome so far. Not a huge fan of the orange but daily performance is amazing.
Next time might try the general thread.

I'm running bonsai 3.01. Battery life is great no major issues at all. Here is a couple of screens of battery life
The battery was at 5% when these were takin. Only warning about bonsai would be not to let your battery die because of the no journaling mod. Their kernel also is clocked to 1.2 so performance is great as well.

Thumbs up on that one. I have the same problem except that I have a HeroC and the g/f has the Epic. Compared to the manhours I've spent in the Hero, this looks like chinese to me lol. I don't quite follow everyone with the Rom jargon (Eb13, Ec05) and what the hell is journaling and does she really need it? CM7?? I certainly know what that is lol. My Evo comes in tuesday and that'll take me about 5 minutes to get going...the Epic I'm not so sure on.

Most people new to the forums don't take the time to understand posting rules. The dev section always takes the biggest hit.
bonsai viper and acs roms are very good.

[Q] Best kernel for CM6?

After realizing that I made a mistake by ditching my EVO for the Epic; I returned to the EVO and installed CM6. What a difference! Everything is great so far except for battery life (even using profiles on setCPU) so I was wondering what kernel would provide speed, reliability and battery savings. I'm currently running CM6 kernel and I'm getting around 1250 on quadrant (around the same results of the nexus one with froyo) so I'm happy with the speed so far but I would love some more battery life (I'm getting less than 8 hours with moderate use).
Thanks
What I learn is try a kernel for a day or two. Try another.. you will find one. Not saying do this but this is what I'm doing. Just like finding a rom.. always come back to cm6

Geez, my bad. For some reason I thought I was in the general section.
Can a mod move this thread to the general section? Thanks
Before this gets moved.. all hardware is different. On paper its the same, but what we have learned is that phones respond differently to the software thrown at them. As others suggested, try them out. Snap as well as Kings are excellent kernels. Just find there threads and I can't stress enough to read the op. Most of the questions you have can be found there, as it can be a little cumbersome with all the different versions for some. But yeah, make sure to give it a run for a few days before you decide its not working for you. Your phone needs to get used to it, so basing it off a charge after a few cycles is always a good idea.

Run Snap v7.5 for an increase in speed and battery life.
King's Kernel all the way, and I've tried all the damn Snap kernels.
Mostly, you should be managing your wifi/3g/screen off cpu settings.

Amidoinitrite???
I only say that cause there have been quite a few identical threads recently, identical to this, that are very easy to find. Also, that pic gave me teh lulz! Couldn't help it.
On a serious note though, all the roms seem to be pretty damn good in there own ways. I was on cm7 for a while and it was very stable for me. Just flashed cleanGB and samurai kernel the other day, and not only has it been rock solid, but my battery life has been outstanding! As always, though, YMMV. Try em all and see what you like best. Enjoy!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Hang out for a while. Read the threads on what the numerous roms contain. Find out what works for some and not for others. Some are geared for battery life, but you lose something in the process.
Try a few of them out. Look for qbking77's youtube tutorials on how to root/flash/theme/etc. Dont like a rom? Switch! It really is that easy.
Its like buying a new car. What would you like? There is no 'best', but rather what fits you.
Last but not least, when you ask a question, remember that there are some really smart people out here that rightfully just sit back and shake their heads at questions that are easily answered on your own with a little bit of searching.

SFR 1.2.
you can try a couple good kernels with it too. I used genocide.
Sent from my... Epic
Most are ROM's are stable, battery life well. I can kill my battery in 3-4 hrs of streaming music from network via bluetooth to a speaker... other wise I can go all day just about. Even with undervolting I only get marginally better battery life in general.
Some apps/widgets are just battery/cpu/gpu/memory/storage etc hogs. If you use your phone your battery will drain. That is a guaranty... usage = less battery
Like others have said your mileage may vary and usually does.
i prefer genocide too
I wish people would stop asking these kind of questions...even more I wish people would stop answering them. Just ignore them and maybe they will actually read the ROM threads like they are supposed to before flashing!
EVERY PHONE IS DIFFERENT!!! What is good for someone elses phone may be bad for yours. Flash and figure it out. Thank you and have a nice day!

cm7 to sense.

I've been running cm for about 2 years, I recently flashed the stock ROM for my monthly prl update and did a speed test. I pulled in close to 3meg down. I average 1< Meg on cm7, I am posting to get opinions on sense based roms. I tried synergy a couple months ago but it was very unstable and horrible battery life. I would be willing to try it again but I hate the ****ing mirror its on.
That's a very interesting observation. When I was on myn's warm TwoPointTwo I was getting 2 up, 1 down. Now only 700kbps on MIUI.

Is funny that you guys are saying this because I've been getting the complete opposite! I was only averaging about 500kbps on sense and I flashed CM7 and have been getting on average an awesome 1.2mbps download and about 600kbps upload so I think it might depend on what area you're in......not the rom.
Oh I live in Pensacola, Florida just in case you want to track down this issue...
Try one of the team blaze roms uploads and downloads pretty quick they are sense rooms also one asop based on cm7

Since you like sense and AOSP based roms, the best one to use in my opinion is TN's Xplod rom ,it's the best rom i've used yet, again this is my opinion.

If you are talking about 3g, there is no possible way you got 3mbps down.

3g but its mega bits, not mega bytes. Just the unit speedtest.net uses.
my 3G speeds with CM7 were getting worse by the month. Just flashed Evo classic from tommy tomato and my 3g is screaming!!!
Yeah, that 3g script booster thing hasn't worked well at all. Supercharged? Maybe I have ths wrong setting but it clearly isn't helping. So flashing a sense ROM might get 2mbps back?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
OK, I tried synergy again. Same results, flashed blaze 4.0 and love it but I have a question about beats audio, I have looked but cannot find out how to change any of the dsp settings. Any insite on that?
Just curious about the "horrible battery" life of synergy.
What are we talking here less than a day, or less than 8 hours (like my stock Evo..grr)?
Bad like when you first get the Evo bad. 6-8.

Best ROM/Kernel combo for battery?

Been getting horrible battery on my Sprint GNex. Currently running Paranoid Android with that kernel and still getting **** battery life. What's the best combination that is working for you all? I'm getting around 7~9 now. I used to get a whole day out of my OG Evo.
Sigh another battery thread.
Was this battery over 3G? How long? What was the display time? Need more info bud. Not just help my battery life sucks...

ROM? No idea. Kernel? Trinity

CM9 SKANK/TRINITY alpha 85~4.7~1344-307=4 hrs or more screen on time and about stands still on standby. I do not allow anything to run in background (manually update when needed) and I only have apps I use on my phone. I have ran this setup for wks. Just updated to today's build.. With this kernel I've had no reboots but if u do try Trinity and have a reboot bump voltage up a hair till it quits. It will. And never have I gotten the screen time I do w Trinity w/ any other kernel. Been through the list. Also this rom, its the most dependable there is in my opinion. Scrolls like no other!! Lots of new options like status bar on bottom..much more!! Still flawless!

No it isn't "another battery thread" I wanted to see what people were getting. I don't run 3G or wifi really at all unless I'm using them. I know how to use my battery. I also know it matters for each phone. The stuff I have tried isn't giving me the results I think are possible with my phone. Obviously the stuff I am trying hasn't worked. There isn't much more info NEEDED. I asked basically what people were getting and on what combinations. Someone else's combination might do wonders for me. I'll try trinity since many people are suggesting it. I'll run it over PA for now, and see what I'm getting.

No point in digging through threads when I can find answers here.
I have the gsm gnex and i'm using AOKP build 39 with franco kernel nightly 192 and i constantly get around 3 1/2 to 4 hour screen on time. In my opinion the best combo. Experimenting with different kernels is however fun.

Which Rom Offers the Best Battery Life on Jellybean?

I know im going to get flamed on this for making 'another better rom for battery thread' but ive been away for two weeks and i see some new roms are out for jellybean, i am currently rocking AndroidMe Cm10 rom, but would like to try a different rom for better batterylife. (its not the best as is ..) i know you guys are going to say every device varies but chances are what most people are getting better battery life on so will mine... so what would you guys reccomend? i really dont want to revert to TeamGummy 4.0.4 (ICS) but if i cant find a better batterylife
well, a better battery life is mostly up 2 the kernel, screen brightness, wireless and network usage, other settings r just familiar of most roms.
though ice has a better battery life than jb, i think
the GUMMY doos have a good battery life 'cause it's using the imoseyon kernel:good:

Not trying to flame you but you answered your own question in the OP. Every device varies along with the way each person uses it. I don't have any technical expertise to fall back on when choosing a ROM so it's mostly a trial-and-error process. Flashing a different ROM or kernel is fairly simple, so just experiment and see which one gives you what you are looking for. I rarely, if ever, got the same performance that other users reported when I had my Evo. And lastly, read what other people are saying about a particular combination. XDA has no shortage of people willing to try out new things and let the rest of the community know how it worked. The last 3 pages of a thread are usually the best place to look and see what kind of success/failure rate is happening.
