USB adapter w/ charging + aux audio - Thunderbolt Accessories

http://www.amazon.com/OEM-3-5mm-Headset-Adapter-Converter/dp/B001RXTDP2/ref=pd_cp_e_2
I'm looking for something like this for our thunderbolts.
Ideally I'd like to leave this in my car and only plug in the 1 cable (which will have power + audio) then have a tasker rule that if headset is plugged and charging load the car app.
I find this this as well, http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-SKN6252-Verizon-Motorola-Adventure/dp/B000T3M0SS/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1301348086&sr=1-5, no idea if thatll work w/ the above one for the old mini-usb HTC phones.
any thoughts?

Interesting. Conflicting reviews on whether or not you can charge and listen to music with it at the same time. I'll pick one up and give it a try next time I order from Amazon.

great keep me posted. I may do the same considering it's price, just figure i would ask for confirmation from other users first.

I have the top adapter. When I go to Fry's this weekend I'll pick up a mirco to mini adapter and a usb coupler and see if any combinations work with the TB.

I have it on order and will have it here by next week.

I have several of these. They work great.

Anyone ever get these adapters in hand and tested?

I think that adapter would work perfectly as long as you have the appropriate input. But a side of me can't help but want to direct you to something I posted in a different thread. I know a lot of people don't mind spending money on things as long as they work, but hey, might as well share, right?

$80 is WAY too much for this. You can accomplish the same thing with a $20 BT3030 adapter, or any headphone adapter.
Here's a tip:
Grab one of these and one of these, and you'll never know the difference.

I just used that as an example as how cheap you can go. Personally, I'm making a cable that does both.
If you want one that charges and plays at the same time out of the box, try this for 20 bucks:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Jabra-BT303...uetooth_Wireless_Products&hash=item4aa3833d38
It's the Jabra BT3030. One end is the audio output (which plugs into your audio input) and the mini USB port is on the other for charging.

What I think I forgot to add was, any bluetooth receiver with an audio output will work for you. Even (especially) the ones that are made for headphones. They usually just have an amp built into them, so if you leave it at one setting, it will function the same as the one you linked to. The point I was basically trying to make was, the headphone adapters are usually much cheaper that ones "made" for a car.
the only problem i see with any bluetooth adapter, is the need to charge it. I ended up taking my Sony CDX-GT320 out, and putting in a new Sony BT-2800. Only tried it for 10 minutes tonight, but I LOVE IT. No adapters, nothing, it's all built in. I took the FIPO adapter and a ipod cable, tried to see if the kenwoods would play it, no dice however the Kenwoods did at least power up the blue light and I could get it to sync with my phone.

Did you make sure to turn the volume up on the phone. Volume control when connected via A2DP is controlled by the phone. My evo is always set to mute when I connect it to my FIPO, aside from that it works awesomely.
Naw on my Sony deck would just read no device when paired with the fipo

[Q] A Music Dock for Evo?

Is there a music dock for the Evo anywhere?
I'm NOT talkin about a car dock, or a charging/syncing dock or just external speakers that plug into the headphone port...
I mean a dock like the millions of them that are available for the iPhone that is an actual stereo where the phone docks into it and charges/plays music at the same time..
I have looked everywhere and cant find one.. seems like the only thing that the iPhone has that my Evo doesnt that I actually want
Any ideas?
Oh, and something that you "rigged" up that does the same thing might be interesting to see also..
You're not going to find anything made specifically for the EVO. The best bet is to find a universal one that has USB charging capabilities. I can't recall one off the top of my head but I'm sure they are out there.
Yeah, I really wasnt expecting to find an "EVO specific" one but I cant even find a universal one that's not a complete piece of crap that is so inconvenient to use that it's not worth it...
Am I the only one that wants one of these or what? There has to be a bir market for a really good universal one that non-iPhone users can buy... Maybe I'm missing something
YES, YES, a million times YES on someone making this!
I would buy it in a heartbeat!!!

I want one of these. I am actually in the process of making one out of wood. I am thinking of shaping it like a regular dock, and using a good acoustical wood. Got the idea from here.
I am thinking this would work great. Maybe take a charger and run it up so that you can plug it in, and use the acoustics of the wood to amplify the sound. Just a thought.
So there are no MicroUSB docks anywhere??
I figured someone would have made one
I've been thinking about one, and it would be cool
I guess even a dock with a USB port so one could connect the cable to it would be fine
sigh

Great idea, thanks man!
The problem is the HDMI out: there is no "dock" connector, just USB (which IS host capable, somewhere on that chip) and the HDMI connector.
HDMI encodes the audio into blank space of the video stream, so you need signal processing to seperate the two: that's too close to the DO NOT CROSS line for manufacturers. There aren't many products that do that (right now), and I don't know if there will be. However I found this one in my travels:
http://hinen.gmc.globalmarket.com/p...switcher-4-port-with-audio-output-165992.html
Is the only thing I can find that comes close to an audio extractor for HDMI. And it has an extra 3 inputs!
So you could get the HDMI dock, the HDMI adapter cable, this doodad, a receiver (or a digital audio to analog converter and THEN to a receiver), and then go out to your speakers. Of course that assumes the software/firmware on the EVO can just play audio out that end: because it is HDMI you would have to have a video signal of some kind going down the wire to activate the link. I suspect that last part would be the easiest part. Though, as developers would probably love something like this too.
Yet another case of DRM being a pain in the ass. in this case, we can thank Intel for being able and willing to sue companies into the ground for not following the HDMI rules.
One final note: if there is HDMI plugged in, all other audio stops (ie bluetooth, headphone jack and builtin speaker). I have not tested this, but this is what HTC said on their tech support forum when I asked.
*EDIT*
Just noticed it has stereo out, but the description is in some funny Engrish, so there is no telling if it is actually available.
*EDIT 2*
http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI switch 4port_toslink.htm
Appears to have been around for ~3 years, but almost $300 too!
*EDIT 3*

http://www.cepro.com/article/atlona_hdmi_13_audio_de_embedder_supports_lossless_audio/
Does not seem to be vaporware, and on the first link, is $128, which is a steal coming from the pro A/V market. Kinda high for us regular consumers, but for that market it's almost free.

That's totally proprietary. The phone that that is made for probably doesn't even have a 3.5mm jack.

Well.. sorry to be a troll. However, you started this thread conveniently assuming that Headphone output through MicroUSB port of Note will work? Its not an HTC phone which has headset support.
May I know the reason for your ASSUMPTION that it would work even if you get the cable?
Your best bet for a single plug into your phone would probably be to use an MHL>HDMI adapter, and then get another adapter to convert from HDMI audio to 3.5mm.
That would be rather clunky though. HDMI > Anything (that isn't DVI) converters are going to run you at least about $40 for a start, and they aren't small either (probably not much smaller than the phone itself .) And they are externally-powered, so you'd need to provide power to both the MHL dongle and the HDMI converter, so it'd be super untidy.
You could do it though.
But you're probably better off using Bluetooth.

My assumption comes from the fact that there is a "docking" option in the system settings of the Galaxy Note, meaning that there is support for docking stations and probably audio output for them.
I'm not saying that the Note is the only and first phone to have it, I'm just wondering if there are such cables out there and if such thing possible to be made through Micro USB.
I had an iPhone almost 2 years ago and such cable was available easily and it did really help in my car setup, and since the Note has the same slot setup of my old iPhone I would really like to know if a cable like that is somewhere out there.

Well, looking at this car docking station...
(Link not allowed. Search for "Genuine Samsung Galaxy Note Vehicle Dock - ECS-K1E1BEGSTD" on MobileFun)
...it clearly shows a "speaker line out" socket in one of the photos, with only one connector (i.e. the micro USB connector) attaching to the phone.
So it is most certainly possible.
Hmmm, the both the official desktop dock and car dock have a 3.5mm audio out. It seems unlikely that there would be a USB DAC in the docks themselves, which suggests that analogue audio is being piped out the microUSB port on the phone itself.
Of course, the OP could just buy the official car dock to get nice tidy cabling...
If i understood the purpose of this cable, it would be:
For example:
My car supports audio input so the purpose of a cable like this would be to stream music to my car audio system and recharge de phone like a all-in-one right?

I too really want one of these.
It is obviously possible as the destop & car dock do this.
The only way is, for someone with some electronics knowledge to pull one of these apart to see how its done. It would be interesting to see if it is straight audio out, or if there is a "Digital to Analogue Converter in there"

This might do the trick in the unlikely case that Note's microusb outputs audio. Tough I'm really interested in knowing for sure if the Galaxy Note microusb pumps line level audio.
Judging by the price of the desktop dock i wouldn't bet my money on the idea that it has not a dac. I

No audio output from Infuse 4G car dock

So I just got my Verizon SG3 and I have the Infuse 4G car dock which everyone says is working wonderfully (It fits perfectly!). I have two problems however, and was wondering if anyone could help me troubleshoot.
1. The stereo output does not work. I have the phone on the dock in my car and when I plug an audio cable in the output on the dock it does not work, when I plug the cable into the stereo jack on the phone it does work.
2. Only a car outlet adpter to USB jack will work to charge it. If I plug in my dedicated car charger (not coming from a USB port), it will not charge the phone.
Any help with these two small issues would be awesome, thanks so much!

You have to go into settings-»dock to change the audio output.
Also, it is a very tight fit. Make sure it is all the way plugged in to the dock. I would recommend using the headphone jack on the phone however. I find the dock audio output to be somewhat noisy when using the audio out on the dock. Ymmv.

What do you mean noisy? Like cause the power input is right there? Is there a buzzing?
Yes, buzzing. I had the samsung droid charge dock and it was the same way with that phone. Maybe its a samsung thing.
Changing the audio out option in dock settings should have fixed your issue with the sound. No clue why your dedicated charger isn't working other than maybe not enough amps......just a guess there.
As for the noise/buzzing issue.......could be a grounding issue with your car or the cables aren't pushed in all the way. I used this dock for a good week and it sounded perfectly fine. The only thing I changed was the EQ settings in whatever app I was using. I'm using poweramp now with the EQ turned off and it sounds great.....no noise or buzzing. My JVC deck does all the EQ fine tuning it needs.
I ended up disassembling the Infuse dock and pulling the PC board out. This has allowed me to keep my case on my phone. I am using the exomount holder and just ran a microUSB extension from the PC board to the phone. So far, everything works great. In fact, just ordered all the same parts again last night to do the same setup for my Dad.

Here you go.
I do need to add that today I did notice some background noise at the end of a sound when it was fading out.....that was the first time I ever noticed anything. During regular listening, I don't hear anything. This may be solved by adding a ground loop isolator.
Anyway, here are the pics. The first couple are of the pc board from the infuse dock. The others are of the mount and cabling. The last is what the Google Car Home screen looks like.I moved things around and put the camera, messaging, and poweramp apps on the home screen.
Let me know if you have any questions.
the_buzz_man
By the way, the case I have on there right now is the Diztronic Matte Black TPU case. Waiting on the Otterbox Defender.
The wires you see on the second to last pic are tucked under the dash....I pulled them out to show how they were connected. The PC board from the Infuse dock is wrapped in electrical tape to keep it from coming in contact with anything.
That exogear mount was put in place a week ago and it shows no sign of coming loose so far.....really am impressed with it.

Thank you, this is nice because the case can stay on the GS3 all the time.

Is your phone rooted, because I can't install the Google Car Home. I miss that app since I had the G2 before the GS3.
This might be a dumb question and i don't know if someone else knows the answer. Can I root my phone and still keep the stock ROM (The one it ships with)???

I am not rooted. Though the play store shows it is not compatible and won't let me install it, I was able to do a Google search and find a copy of it. It doesn't show up under apps after it is installed. But, once you plug in the dock, it will give you the option to use it.
I don't know if it is proper to put links to files such as this (even though the app is free), but do a Google search for "download google car home apk" and the second choice (droid-life) is where I got it (alt-link).

I replied in the other forum. As for the cable.....if you do what I did and want the phone to switch into car mode, then you would need a microUSB extension cable that uses all five wires.
I wasn't sure if you are wanting to output audio to a deck or if you just want to be able to charge and have the audio come from the phone.

I was wanting the audio to come out of my car speakers.. using the aux option in my car. Hope that makes sense.
The app I have is car home ultra. Right now I'm having to plug 2 cables in so I get why you did what you did. One cable would be alot easier. I definitely need to get rid of the infuse dock or do what you did and use a different dock though because I hate pulling the case off. The app I have is car home ultra. Right now I'm having to plug 2 cables in so I get why you did what you did. One cable would be alot easier. I definitely need to get rid of the infuse dock or do what you did and use a different dock though because I hate pulling the case off. I'm just trying to decide if I should send the dock back altogether or do what you did. My husband said he'll do it if I know exactly which cable to get.
Thank you for your reply.

I've posted this link before, but wasn't sure if you have seen it...

This is where I got the cable from. It uses all five wires which is what is needed to trip car mode. They have many choices. I am using the right angled one. I have used both the 24in and the 6ft one, both have worked fine.
I just got my Otterbox Defender yesterday and it fits fine in my mount. I must say that this exomount has thoroughly impressed me with how well it holds.

Looking for a Bluetooth car audio receiver

Hi all,
I'm looking for a Bluetooth car audio receiver that is specifically compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S3. The reason I say this is that I have tried several receivers that my friends own and while I can pair and play music with them, if I turn bluetooth on and off, I then have to go into the Bluetooth settings and manually connect to them again.
This is very cumbersome. I am looking for a receiver that I can pair once, leave in the car and forget about. My aim is to use tasker and an NFC tag so that whenever I get in my car, I scan the tag, the bluetooth turns on, automatically connects to the receiver and music starts playing.
Hence, does anyone know of such a receiver. Specifically, I do NOT want to have to turn it on/off. I want to put it in my glovebox and NEVER touch it again after the initial setup.

That is a deck. Not a receiver.
My car deck is already really nice and has an AUX. I'm not looking to change that. I'm looking for something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Britelink-Blu...781329&sr=8-9&keywords=bluetooth+car+receiver
I first bought a Soundfly that has a built in fm transmitter but the gain was way too low, so I returned it. Then I bought this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CLYJ2I/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00 and it works perfectly since I have an aux input and cig lighter power adapter hidden in my center arm rest. That's what I recommend, bit pricey, but worth it for me.

Are you referring to something like this?
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-bluetooth-car-stereoclip-review
My AUX line in on my car is hidden in the center console along side a built in USB charger, and not really wanting to string a cable across to my mounted phone, this is what I've been considering. It's $70 though so I'm sure there are a few cheaper alternatives like what you linked to.
Edit: Looks like iMouseOne has the same idea.

Yeah...except if you notice on this one you have to turn it on every time you get in the car. That is exactly what I don't want haha.
I want something automatic. FULLY. I start the car, it starts playing music.

That looks like exactly what I want. Has anyone bought it to test it out? Specifically, does it automatically connect to our phone once paired? Or do you have to manually connect it?

Forget the HTC stereo clip. I would go with the Samsung HS3000. There is a thread about it in the HTC evo 4g lte accessories thread. I have two and it's great. You can get them with some decent samsung earbuds for like $30.
I'd try the HTC one. It does support Apt-X that the GS3 also supports if you care about sound quality.
Perfect. I read about the samsung hs3000 and they seem to be exactly what i want. Ordering one tonight.
Thank you for the input everyone!

Agreed.

APT-X is supported only on the HTC One X and Samsung SIII so far, AFAIK.
It gives you HD quality sound via bluetooth. MUCH better sounding than A2DP bluetooth from what I've read.
I'm waiting for MFG's to start making car stereo's with the technology.
Currently there aren't any decks that have it.
Hmm, sounds like it may not be the solution you want though. A poster in this thread says he has to turn on/off every time he gets in the car.
Actually it sounds like this device has more than one "issue".

My only complaint with this is the fact that it does not auto connect when I return to the car. I have to find the device on the phone and then click it once to connect. Basically my only complain but it puzzles me as the car bluetooth auto connects.

If you're gonna get the HS3000, there is a version of it that supports Apt-X as well, BHS3000. Sometimes it's just listed as HS3000 though so it's kinda confusing.

I think it is not the solution for your problem...for example in the car how you supply it?
Hs3000 stay always on? if yes when battery is discharged you have to remove it and charge it?
In user manual I read that you cannot use it during recharge.
Like you I would a Bluetooth car audio receiver that I plug in and forget, without recharge each time...anyone can help me?

You can plug a headphone jack into it, use a RCA->headphone cable. Then you just need to power it using a USB cable. I added an extra cig socket behind my dash wired into the original cig adapters power leads. Got a USB charger adapter and plugged it in. Starts when the car starts, off when the car is off.
I know this thread is old, but I had the same dilemma. I needed something small, auto-connect on car start, could be charging and listening at the same time.

It's perfect.
I looked over this thread and am shocked nobody has posted this solution. It is so freakin cheap compared to the competition and works just fine. Most bluetooth receivers I see costs $50 and up....this one costs $14-$18 and comes with all the accessories needed. I have 2 of them (one for my car and one for home). The one for my car I've had for a year already with no issue. The charge on it lasts about 4-6 hours before needing recharge. Honestly, take a look at this guys

Thinking of connecting this to my home receiver through RCA aux. Can this be continuously plugged in to a power source and still transmit the music or is it a situtation where you have to charge then unplug then connect to stereo? Hope that make sense. :silly:
Bit shocked some things like the Belkin bluetooth handsfree kit has not come up.
Belkin on Amazon
I picked up one of these, and it works better than anything I have used so far. I normally HATE Belkin for sub standard crap, but this thing has lasted longer than anything. I also picked up for 15 about to be sure I got good audio a ground fault isolator. I highly recommend you get one if the device that connects to the aux port also connects to the car for power. So unless it is battery powered I would get one.

For that price, you could have purchased a high def APT-X Bluetooth receiver.
I picked up a cheap one from amazon and the Audio was sub par at best... Fine for ESPN Radio but when I played music it clipped pretty bad... It was a Go groove or something like that
