[RECOVERY][OBSOLETE] CWM 3.0.0.6 - charge while off (flashable) - myTouch 4G Android Development

Alright here we go.
HISTORICAL THREAD ONLY, THIS HAS BEEN FIXED, DOWNLOAD THE LATEST OFFICAL CLOCKWORK FROM ROM MANAGER!
DOWNLOAD
View attachment CWM-3.0.0.6-offmode-charging-glacier.zip
MIRROR - Mediafire
This is the clockworkmod recovery from the original 3.0.0.6 thread with some small modifications to charge while powered down.
big thanks go to damien667 for the method in which this is acheived as well as the original G2 image.
flash the above zip from your current recovery image, then power down. confirmed working (thanks TrueBlue_Drew)
Enjoy.

So this actually keeps the device from turning on? It doesn't just keep the screen off? (<- this can already be done by pressing the power button while in CWM recovery, for those who are curious)

no this behaves the way that the OTA recovery behaves without the charging battery icon. the recovery kernel is loaded, but the screen remains off and responds to boot time signals like holding power + vol - to boot into bootloader mode. this is how recovery is SUPPOSED to behave on these devices. there are four binaries that are called by init.rc in /sbin
init.rc
Code:
on boot
ifup lo
hostname localhost
domainname localdomain
class_start default
service ueventd /sbin/ueventd
critical
service choice_fn /sbin/choice_fn
oneshot
service recovery /sbin/recovery
disabled
service power_test /sbin/power_test
disabled
oneshot
service offmode_charging /sbin/offmode_charging
service detect_key /sbin/detect_key
service adbd /sbin/adbd recovery
disabled
on property:persist.service.adb.enable=1
start adbd
on property:persist.service.adb.enable=0
stop adbd
binaries are
/sbin/choice_fn
/sbin/power_test
/sbin/offmode_charging
/sbin/detect_key
no building from source was required, these binaries were removed from a stock OTA recovery after unpacking the image, then i unpacked the 3.0.0.6 image, added the calls in init.rc and the binaries in /sbin and some files in /res then packed it back up and made it flashable. method was discovered by damien667

Thanks for the explaination.

Thanks for the update, will test tonight

Works flawlessly!!! Thanks.

Is it just me or is there no LED notification when trying this? I was also seeing an issue of not being able to boot back up by using just the power button, I had to battery pull, then boot. I will test further since that was right after I flashed it.

works great! thanks for your efforts =]

You are partialy right. Your phone can still get a full charge while turned on and charging. The real use for this would be if you are OCD and must turn your phone off to charge it (doesnt really need to be off to charge any better). Or if you want to try and condition your battery.

Do this is a patch for the one Drew ported, and allows 3.0.0.6 to charge while off, WITHOUT switching the recovery images in Rom Manager?
Was the guy unable to turn on without pulling battery a glitch, or is that normal?
I'm a wee bit confused.

Just tried it. I turned phone off, plugged in to charge, pulled plug and hit power button to turn on. No issues.

This is the same recovery as in my thread but has now been modified to be used to charge with the phone off rather than have to change to the stock recovery.
And that was a glitch because I havent had any issues with it at all.

[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery for G2

Installation instructions:
YOUR PHONE MUST ALREADY BE S-OFF. SEE THE OTHER THREADS IN THIS FORUM ON HOW TO DO THAT.
I recommend getting on Wi-Fi.
Download ROM Manager from the Market. You MUST have at least 2.5.0.6.
Flash Recovery.
Choose G2 as your phone.
Accept the Superuser prompt.
Use ROM Manager to create a Backup.
Watch the backup go!
That's it! This is completely painless and safe!
If you appreciate my work, please buy the Premium version of ROM Manager!
If you can't seem to get ROM Manager off the market, you can get it from my homepage:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html
http://koush.tandtgaming.com//recoveries/RomManager.apk
Or to manually install the recovery via fastboot, use this:
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-vision.img
Great work!! Would this happen to work on the Desire Z as well?

EDIT: I enabled "Advanced Mode" in settings and rebooted, G2 now shows up. Thanks, Koush!
Get on wifi if you don't see it.
Purchased, keep up the good work.
instructions for fastboot method?

I tried that after rebooting into fastboot mode, but it gets stuck at:
Code:

sending 'recovery' (4040 KB)...
for over a minute. i dont remember it taking this long on the G1 to flash recovery
Any reason selecting reboot in the recovery causes it to just black screen, and then pushing power button returns it to the recovery?
Oh my God!!!! I followed your instructions and clicked backup current ROM and it rebooted and now I have a red triangle. What do I do?

Be sure to use the trackpad (button below the screen) and not the power button for "select". Power button is "back".

This happened to me (and a few others in the other thread). Pull the battery, restart, reflash recovery (via rom manager), fix permissions (via rom manger, might not be needed), start a new backup. Should work.
(Thanks temjinzero for this method)
Thanks Koush for an awesome job!
If your phone restarts while in Clockwork after flashing and gives you a screen with a red triangle, do not panic and start using it as a paperweight immediately.
Pull the battery, reboot and reflash Clockwork.
I wasn't able to boot again for a few minutes after the battery pull. The power button did not have any effect. Not fastboot nor regular boot. After 2-3 minutes of pain, utter pain, I was able to get into fastboot, then reboot like normal.
Thank you to Koush, cyprusxr3 and mdel.
If you do not see g2 liste go to settings/applications/manage downloaded/rommanager and push clear cache clear data bam fixed
Purchased. And thanks for all the hard work

[bootloader][05-26] FFF 1.4A bugfixes + new look + recovery boot [.zip file size]

NEW BOOTLOADER INSTALL METHOD: FLASH.ZIP. SAFER. USE IN RECOVERY JUST LIKE ANY OTHER ROM .ZIP
This is an UPDATED version of FIREFIREFIRE by Pokey9000
CREDITS and THANKS GO TO:
- Pokey9000: For getting this going. Hard to dev at all w/o a way of getting to recovery.
- eldarerathis: Menu code was used from the Extended FIREFIREFIRE github
- Icemank121: All splash/menu screens
Version 1.5 of FIREFIREFIRE changes:
[1.5] Better handling for lower power / charging screen
[1.4a] Reprioritized the different boot options so that regardless of idme bootmode, the options chosen from the menu would be used first.
[1.4] Support for a single boot directly to Recovery for applying ROM updates, etc via "Reboot Recovery" menu in Android. Works with any recovery that is installed. All existing ROM devs need to update their BoardConfig.mk to support this by adding the following:
TARGET_RECOVERY_PRE_COMMAND := "idme postmode 1;"
Your builds will need to also have a working "idme" binary and the "libidme.so" lib for the reboot recovery option to work.
Both of these are in the prebuilts of the device tree on github:
https://github.com/KFire-Android/android_device_amazon_otter/tree/cm-11.0/prebuilt
Fixed Charging Mode which will pause the boot process and let the device charge if the current capacity is under 3%. If you connect it to the stock charger, the boot can proceed.[/B]
Added a Boot Menu which is accessed by pressing the power button after a the initial splash screen is displayed. You then press the menu button again to navigate through each option. If you wait after an option is highlighted, it will automatically be selected after a few seconds.:
Normal: Standard boot into your installed ROM
Recovery: Boot to recovery
Reset Boot Mode: This is a normal bootup but resets "idme bootmode" to 4000 for those that are stuck and can't access idme for whatever reason.
NOTES:
Currently the handling of the power button is a bit sloppy, takes 1-2 presses for it to register each press to navigate through the menu.
Download the recovery-flashable .zip file here:
http://goo.im/devs/hashcode/otter/bootloader/flash-zip
v1.5 md5sum: 4e9d277a31a2a26d33156edf5abbf0e4
v1.4a md5sum: 419c53b922c963082454b14b7de75a90
Apply this flash.zip from recovery just like any other ROM or kernel .zip file. This is by far the safest way to upgrade your bootloader. It does a sha1sum check on the file before applying.
GitHub source (forked from Pokey9000's original) here:

Really Nice update, it should avoid some people like me ever getting stuck in fastboot, something I did not understood reading the OP.
Suggestion: in a future version, could you make a count down decreasing the selecting marks "--"?
Since it can easily take you out of fastboot, ROM makes could also add reboot to "bootloader".
Thank you Hashcode for your support and for try to make the Kindle Fire the best device out there.

Unbelievable! You're making great, amazing things, Hashcode.
Ps. Requesting mirror, as your site seems down.
Wow this does look very nice. Just a few questions... the "fastboot oem format" option still in place and will there be any support for dual booting (referring to the other thread with the bootloader that supports that sort of thing) in the future?
Yep, rombot seems to be having issues. I'll get a mirror up in a sec.
Re dual boot support: I'm sure that given a bit of time they will integrate at least the bug fixes (and hopefully the reboot support)

awesome update hash. I like the selection on button press. very very cool.
question, I'm curious how helpful that reset boootmode feature is, when u reboot from recovery using twrp2.1.1 it properly sets the bootmode back before rebooting? unless that selection is access able when booting in fast boot?

[Q] How do I get SU back? I broke it...

After flashing a JB rom and a corresponding JB Super SU zip this morning, I accidentally uninstalled the Super SU thinking I had a different SU app already. Turns out I didn't, and now I don't know how to get it back. I flashed the SU zip again in recovery, didn't work. But now nothing requiring root access works, so I can't even get back into recovery as far as I can tell. What do I do to get root back?
UPDATE: No matter what kind of weird things you may have done to your GNex, if you happened to have screwed up your SU abilities somehow, these next few posts will most likely help to guide you. I screwed mine all up to hell, and these guys helped me remember what was going on and what to do to fix it.

Reflash the ROM.
Try getting into fastboot, through the volume and power keys when the device is shutdown.
Happened to me before, that was the only solution.

I DID IT AGAIN!!
I didn't learn my lesson, and kept screwing around with the super user apps, and I ended up removing the super user binary. (what is wrong with me?) So this is a little more serious... Now what do I do?
I'm not a noob rooter (rooted my OG Droid 2 years ago and kept up with development, now the same with my GNex) but I guess I somehow got around having to deal with SU issues the whole time.

That's all I use, but I can't get to recovery. I'm running stock JB rom, so there's no option to reboot into recovery from the power menu, and since I don't have super user, no app can get the permission to reboot into recovery either. I can power down and boot into the bootloader (or whatever that is) holding the volume down and power buttons, but I don't see how that helps.

if you can get to the bootloader, scroll using the volume keys to get to 'recovery mode' and select that. that is recovery and you should hopefully have CWM or TWRP still installed.

Once your at the bootloader, you should have the choice to boot from there into recovery, though it's been a while since I've done it that way so cannot give you the exact steps. You should be able to use the volume keys to highlight the recovery option and then press the power button to choose it, I believe.
But you may have lost CWM, since JB could have over-written it. If so, you'll need to use fastboot to re-install it, after which you can use CWM to apply an SU zip from your internal SD card.
Thank you blowtorch, Zepius, and high vista! It was having both vol buttons pressed that I had completely forgotten about. That solves the problem and dams up a flood of questions that could have been had I not gotten that minor detail in.

If you can get into hboot , or able to see 'adb devices' show your device you may be able to type:
adb reboot recovery
and cause it to reboot into recovery from your terminal if you are finding difficulties with using the button method.
The splash is sometimes indicative that you don't have a rom installed at all (i.e.: if you did a clean wipe and such), but worse case scenario, you don't have recovery installed either in which case you may have to install it via fastboot (at the bootloader screen)

can you give any link to do that or something else.. i really need it. im newbie dont know anything
and i use android speeddaemon fantasia rom..
adb (android debugging bridge)is an executable program for a pc (or linux or apple) to communicate with your android phone. it is unlikely adb will work if you cant even access your hboot but you can try.
if you rooted your phone yourself than you should have the drivers installed and adb.exe also installed on computer, along with knowledge on how to use it.
if you didnt/dont have it, google android sdk for the package, and google adb for dummies (or something like that) for more instructions if the sdk doesnt provide you with enough.
but like i said it is unlikely to work and if you want any chance of fixing your phone i suggest logging onto freenode to get real time help

[Q] Help me!!!!

Ok unfortunately I decided to root my LG and obviously thats was my first mistake. I was reading xda about how to root my LG Optimus G. Well i found a thread that talked me through it but I decided to take the short and download freegee from the playstore. And needless to say in the middle of it backing up someone decided they felt the need to call me. I didnt answer the call but it went back to downloading the recovery. When it finished it said it couldnt find the files. Long story short my phone worked for 2 days before it decided that it was gonna be deactivated and i no longer use my phone unless its on wifi. I talked to sprint the tech told that basically everything is gone and the biggest part thats missing is the radio and if i could recovery that or flash a new one then I have buy a new phone. Can anyone please please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crying:

Press and hold the power button for 20+sec. Next press vol down+power until the capacitive lights come on then release them. That should bring up stock recovery. Do a factory reset. You'll use the capacitive menu key to select.

Go to recovery. Still do the factory reset. Are you sure you used zv9? If that doesn't work, in the teeny bin thread download the original one. If you can also put a ROM on your SD and flash it.

OK. Let's start from scratch. Shall we?
Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43983721
Install LGNPST and download either ZV9 or ZVB bin. And run it.
This should get you up and running. It includes the modem also.
Edit. Zvb is the most current. But we can make either bin work.
