[PATCH][4/3/11] Radio Interface Layer: Library to Radio Firmware Automatcher - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

Mod Edit: Redirect Removed

Reserved for future use.

Cheers, mate. This thing is handy-dandy. Thanks for updating.

Thanks rmk and pfak!
If you remember me complaining about garbled calls, I started reflashing my radio and using this patch everytime I would flash a new rom, and I haven't had one garbled call since.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but I'm pretty happy and think that this has helped my issue.
Btw, I have been using the 03.02.18 radio since I believe it was from a Bell Canada release (my carrier).
Thanks!

Thank you for this great tool! it does make it so much easier to test. and previously I did notice an improvement when matching the ril files, although right now I am testing without matching.
but my question is why does no one talk about matching the files "libganril.so " and "librilswitch.so"?
is it known that they are the same? or have they been overlooked? I believe that they are part of the rildeamon.
does anyone have any information on these libraries?
Thanks again for your hard work!

Holy ****...I'm not sure if they fixed the towers around or if its this tool, but I went from 5Mbs down and 1.2 up and now I'm getting 8Mbs down and 3Mbs up..

Im def. seeing and improvement on my download speed from doing this. I have never gotten 3 meg due to the building im in and now i get it every time.
Thanks

I experienced the importance of the relationship between Radio & Ril with Windows HTC devices. I'm no dev but I've had my suspicion from going thru the threads and reading what people were experiencing flashing the same Roms and Radios.
I'm glad the Devs figured it out.
Once I saw the thread, I installed the patch and let it do its thing because I new I had a mis-match but issues weren't bad enough to try and fix & in the process...break something I couldn't fix.
I'm still a noob with Android & the G2 is my 1st Android device. I started with the HD2 w/Android but that don't count.
With all these words, just trying to say thanks.....
Install the patch people, it works

Not sure if it's just me, but I applied the update for radio 26.08.04.16_M and started losing 1-2% battery per MINUTE. Flashed Ultimatedroid 3.2.0 again and I'm back to about 3-4% battery per HOUR

This is exactly why I state that the matcher is not to be used on aosp roms. UD is an aosp rom. Please read the details before reporting issues, as this was erroneous, being that you saw completely expected behavior.

My apologies. I wasn't sure if mine was an AOSP rom (I tend not to know a lot of things). At least I know now!

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? loool. MAX I get is like 20 hours on a full battery. Do you not use your phone at all??

RMK: I installed this with your slightly modified leaked Sense 2.3.3 test ROM, so far working perfectly. I am using a NAM Bell Desire Z on Rogers network. Radio version: 26.03.02.26_M. Will post if I observe any problems. Thanks.

I ran this auto patcher on my CM7 before I saw people saying not recommended for Cyanogen lol. What is the best way to "undo" that? Put a different radio on? or what about different radio, auto match, then go back to this radio? My data speeds are insanely bad, 9kbps up, 6kbps down. Unclear on if this is related... but I just wanna do what I can to fix it.

Just re-flash CM7 on top of your existing install. You may also need to re-flash the gapps package after doing so.

Ahh, so I've had it fixed for a while now lol. Thanks. Wasn't sure if it was something on a deeper level than the rom's like the radio itself

A quick question on this:
This tools needs a Sense ROM to work, but does this also work on GB Sense ROMs? Or will this have no/negative effect?

Ok, so we have here a Gingerbread ROM (AOSP + cm7 vendor/device code + zinx's kernel), with just a few tiny changes. I did this mainly to see if I could, but if people want me to add or change things, I welcome requests. And yes to be clear, THIS IS NOT PURE AOSP. Think of it as an aosp/cm7 mashup, looks like aosp, but cm is running the show. This uses the same kernel that all the CM7 builds do, as nothing else wanted to boot. (props to zinx) As usual, I am not responsible for your dog getting pregnant, your phone exploding in your ear, or your own stupidity. Flash at your own risk.
Added:
- Black messaging app
- Reboot and recovery options in shutdown menu
What works:
Wifi
Bluetooth should work (although my headset is f'd, cannot test)
CRT screen-off animation
New nexus and microbes live wallpapers (microbes seems to act up sometimes)
Video calling works, at least in Tango, haven't tried anything else yet.
What doesn't work (that I know of):
Wifi Calling
Trackpad/Menu wake (although if you press trackpad then Home quickly it will wake)
USB and Wifi tethering
The usual 2.3 camera issues: FFC pics are upside-down, and aspect ratio is screwed up on recorded videos.
Let me know if there are any other problems.
Instructions:
Download/install ClockworkMod 3.0.0.0 or higher
Wipe everything
Flash GingerTouch_x.xx.zip
Flash gapps.zip if you want all the Google goodies
Sit back and enjoy a spliff
Donate to CM/team douche!
Files:
GingerTouch 0.01
Google Apps
All credit goes to the Cyanogenmod team, as the only real work I did with this was to compile everything and make a few changes. Thanks to all of XDA, without this site I would have never even gone this far with Android.
Subbed.
The other GB thread was closed for some reason. If the camera and tethering issues get fixed I will try out this ROM. I can't wait for a good GB ROM. I had one on my Droid Eris and GB is sooooo fast with just a 710Mhz OC !

Cool let me know how you like the ROM. I'm very anxious to throw GB on my MT4G
Well it looks good. But it also looks just like the one shiftedx had up yesterday. Hope it doesn't cause any problems.
Will continue testing it out I like AOSP ROMS
Is anyone else having trouble with gapps?

The one shiftedx had up was almost identical to jaywan's rom. This one is basically aosp with zinx's cm7 kernel.

Thanks, The only thing I have noticed is the first time the file for Gapps was only 7 MB then I downloaded it again and it was 14 MB.
However one thing I have noticed is with this ROM my apps are not automatically installing after I sync with google. I just tried again with cm7alpha and they installed ok. Any idea why? Or am I the only one?
hmm not sure. Have you tried a different gapps version? If theres a better one I'll update it

I'm not used to the auto downloading of apps, so I didn't think to try to include that. I will try to work on it tomorrow, its late.

Yeah I'm not sure why the gapps would change size at all unless it was just a bad download. It shows as 14mb for me.

Will probably give it another try tonight with the Gapps from cm7alpha build.

[Q] Phone junked up after flashing Myn's RLS 5

Don't get me wrong, I love Myn's ROM and this thread is in no way a "lets derail Myn from his glory thread."
For one, my android system is running at 96% and I have absolutely no idea why. I flashed Calkulins new radio pack about 3 weeks ago along with his ROM and had no problems at all. I then switched to MIUI for awhile while I was waiting for RLS 5 to come out and since flashing RLS 5 I have had this problem and can't get rid of it. It doesn't matter what kernel I use, I still have upwards of 90% android system usage of the battery. I would like to figure this out or I may have to switch roms.
Another thing,
For some reason, after I just recently flashed to Myns RLS 5 Pandora sounds like it is playing out of a tin can. I have the higher quality settings turned on and it still sounds like crap, way worse than it did on any previous ROM. I'm wondering how I can fix this?
These problems are really starting to irritate me and I would very much love it if someone would help me out here.
Thanks

I have had the same issue with the android system taking up 90% + or my battery as well and it started after I flashed Myn's RLS5. Here is my post:

I just posted this with pics. Also I went under network usage in spare parts and it seems that "0" is taking up all the usage and dont know why?

i've heard that flashing the entire update (radios, wimax, pri, nv)
causes the uptime on a lot of roms. i think your best bet would be flash the 1.77 PRI in calkulins thread. ive kept 1.77 pri and NV and my phone is just fine running myns RLS5 right now as a matter of fact. good luck hope this helps man.

Im not having any up time issues. My phone sleeps just fine, its the android system that is taking up over 90% + or my batery usage and its made my battery life crap.
Hmm...that's odd...I flashed the rom via Rom Manager, did a few optional updates with it, and the only thing I had to do was flash the 132 radio, my phone great, no FC, nothing.....Hell, I should take this phone into the local sprint store to show them how the SHOULD RUN!
hmmm well this is my solution and it come straight from netarchy in his thread
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763
and ultimately thats really what it sounds like man, flash a different kernal if you really feel the need to do something besides a PRI downgrade, but i firmly believe that myns RLS5 is just fine.
try downgrading the PRI and NV then post back worse case scenario you have to upgrade again and that takes a whopping 5 minutes

My big thing is that my phone is sleeping just fine. If you look at the second post and click on the link you will see screen shots of my up time and awake time which is like:
up time is like 46 hrs or some **** and awake time is like 6 hrs. So my problem is that the "Android System" is taking up 90% + of my battery use. I generally get a little over a day of lite to moderate use out of my battery but since I flashed rls5 its only been like 7 - 12 hrs(not that I am complaining) but I would just like to figure this out. Also some thing else I noticed was that in the spare parts app under network usage the top selection is "0" and when I click on it it just says "process com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly. and please try again?
could this be related to the gingerbread menu upgrade? I have that flashed. Do you or have you ever?

i read your post, have you tried downgrading yet. im almost guaranteeing it will improve battery life the new 1.90 updates dont play well with a lot of roms causing ridiculous battery drain. now regardless if it shows its from the android system/networking problem or not im not knowledgeable enough to answer that, but my android system runs at 19% running myns rls5 and the 1.77 PRI and NV updates just saying..you might really want to consider just TRYING it ya know?

I love the SBC kernels and have read almost every post about them frying batterys. So I ordered a 3500 and am waiting for it to get here and then I will switch kernels. What is the stock kernel that is running with rls5? HTC kernel 15? Thanks for doing the testing. I have 4 kids and got pulled away for awhile. I think I am going to flash the stock kernel for rls5. Do you think I should still downgrade my PRI? I also hit the thanks button. I really appreciate the time you took to figure this out!
Let me just chime in here to shed a little light and knowledge.
Your problem is 3.70 base Rom. It's not a sleep issue. Probably won't be solved by changing kernels. Doesn't look like bad battery life since the phone had not been charged for 42 hours, that's almost 2 days.
If you ask me you have what most ppl are looking to get, which is a full day of use and more. Now correct me if I am wrong but how is going 2 days with out charging a bad thing???
The android system high %'s is a 3.70 issue which has affected a lot of ppl on the forum. The issue has several remedies but the easiest is to just reboot directly after charging the phone. Some ppl have said changing the pri back to 1.77 solved the issue, others have said updating their radio solved the issue.
Please give me a little bit more information so I can research more in depth for you...
Edit: Also let me state the facts here, please don't discredit someone else's work by saying a certain kernel,Rom, theme or recovery will damage a device. The sbc was a variable in ppl batteries being damaged and no one has proven that the kernel has indeed damaged their phone. Only here say...
I don't know if sbc is good or bad as the team I am working with are still in the testing stages with no clear answer, which probably won't come for months.

I honestly love the sbc kernels so I am showing no disrespect to the dev that put these together. My phone also loves the net kernels so Im not going to change at this point. Once you look at my screen shots from my post you will see that my battery only lasted 7 1/2 hours with lite to moderate use. Also there is another screen shot with the awake time and sleep time. One of they other things I noticed was that in the spare parts app under network usage the "thing" that has the highest usage is "0" and when I long press it to see what it is it just force closes. If you see my signature then you know what I am running.

There is definately a problem with the rom released 1-7-11.
It will not allow installation of google usb tether program and the file explorer always seems to be working (spinning graphic). I do not think the previous rom had this problem but I can not be sure. Tried other non myn roms w/o problem, retried myn's and reconfirmed that there is a problem.
It seems that he changed a few things and had some sort of side effect.
Somebody should try running ps, ps -aux or top from a bash terminal to see what is really running. A look at the error log would not hurt either.
Interesting that you couldn't install that. I'm not sure why. The spinning I believe you are referring to is where ads would be. Myn added adblock to the role rls5. Most apps with ads (astro, xda, alchemy, etc) will display the loading circle instead. You can remove adblock. Just search the threads.

Have you tried the reboot right after charging? Also I read some where to go into airplane mode and then turn everything back on. Also when all else fail, not sure how you got to myn's but for the sake of safety do a fresh install of it with a wipe on everything. May also want to try caulk's format all zip.
Try the reboot then see, if that fails fresh install and then see.. let me know each time...
The 0 in spare parts in the android OS and it force close on everyone. Don't be alarmed by that.

I had the horrid battery life after upgrading to Myn's latest and the treo update radio pack. Downgrading my PRI didn't fix it. It was the kernel. I was having random browser fc also.
Went back to HTC #17 kernel and all is well. Try swapping just your kernel.

Issues with the Official MIUI rom

I just starting to adjust to the new feel of it. but it keeps restarting my phone over and over. once every 30 mins. even if I'm in the middle of a phone call.
I'm happy as hell i didn't miss my call for the interview i have tomorrow.
anyway to fix this issue. started happening after i had to flash the file that helps fix the FC of the SMS/MMS popup

yes i did that one. im on the kernal is came with cause idk which kernal i should use.
There are two usual culprits:
1.You need to set wifi sleep policy to NEVER (as sultan of swing mentioned), or
2. incomplete wipe. You need to fully wipe data,.cache, dalvik cache before installing MIUI, especially coming from a Sense rom. Search this forum for the format-all.zip file. Flash it in recovery for the full wipe. Then flash rom.

hmmm...it would help if I read more carefully. I never flashed that zip file.
But if I were expecting an important call, I'd switch to a rom I could trust - probably a sense rom like Fresh or MikWhatever. And I say this as MIUI fan woman
im liking the rom so far. sad part is im a sense fan. this isn't what i wanted, but after playing around with this rom for 2 hours i liked it a lot and the stuff u can do.
i already can tell this is faster than a sense rom. 1 of the games i played on the sense roms lagged a little. but i dont get as much lag in the MIUI rom.

Having issues finding a kernal now for some reason.

I find Savage 1.6 works best for me but every Evo is different. Other people swear by Zen-Droid which only bootloops my phone. bcnice-stable (v7 or v8) is another popular kernel (laggy for me). The safest (?) one seems to be cm6-Snap 7.6 (don't use SnapTurbo) - everything seems to work this snap.
ok thank you bigmoogle. is this the one you were talking about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883455&highlight=Savage
also which do i use the CFS or the BFS. i dont quiet understand the difference between the two.

Yep, that's the kernel. As to which to use, I am definitely NOT the person to ask. In the beginning, kernels were pretty.simple but as time went by, they've collected more and more acronyms. I use Savage 1.6 CFS HAVS. I think it has SBC because the other one is named noSBC.

Few issues I would like help with?

Hey everybody, just trying to find out a few tid bits about my phone.
1st) When using Myns TwoPointTwo for Incredible, even with the new hosts, and the original Browser with reflow, any page loads 75% and sits for 2-3 minutes then loads...This is on Wifi and 3g.
2nd) The radio app gets HORRIBLE signal, are any Radio apps better than others? Any recommendations on Headphones with good antenna qualities? lol
3rd) With Warm Z TwoPointTwo, Acore and many other system processes continuously force close, took me 100 tried to get through the startup wizard...Any ideas why this is?
4th) What is theorized as the most stable Z Rom? I run Myns TwoPointTwo, and love it, but am fond of the new sense. Any recommendations?
Please address each issue by number when responding, as to keep the thread neat and easy to read. This thread may end up helping others aswell!
1) I'm not sure about that it hasn't happened to me with that ROM, the only version I've tried is the 4/1 nightly if that helps.
2) Don't know. Haven't used the radio app I like Pandora.
3) Same as 1
4) It seems like most people use Warm Z and Nils Business Sense. I have yet to try anything besides Warm Z, only had my phone 2 days. Shooting for a new ROM every day.

1. So you dont see that browser problem on 4/1 Nightly?
2. the ONLY reason I want the radio is cause of a local radio program that I like hahah!
3. I'll have to check it out!
4Warm Z was way too unstable for even playing with it, just too instable, I barely had the ability for a logcat lol.
Thanks for the help!

Cyanogen 7 & Battery Drain

I just recently put Cyanogen 7 on my evo and immediately noticed a huge drop in battery performance. Before cyanogen the battery was definitely not new but it would make it through a good chunk of the day and if I charged it before bed then left it sitting it was usable for a few hours in the morning. After cyanogen it will turn itself off after about 4 hours of moderate use and will not make it through the night. I am wondering what I can do.
If I look at the battery usage page it shows cell standby and phone idle as by far the biggest battery users. I did some searching and saw that you need to calibrate the battery so I did that using a couple of different apps. I don't have the clockwork mod boot loader and I didn't see an easy way to delete batterystats.bin but there are quite a few apps in the marketplace that will do it for you. Going through the whole process a couple of times didn't make any appreciable difference in battery life. I would also be fine getting a new battery, it's time anyway, but if it's some kind of software issue I am not sure that will make much difference.
Suggestions?
You could also trying tweaking your kernel settings

I haven't been on the EVO 4G since mid 2011, but I seem to remember using the Savaged Zen kernel and getting much better battery life over stock.
The links below have working downloads still.

I quick google search suggests that the savage zen kernal is at least worth a try. I don't know anything about swapping kernals though. Can you give me any more info on it?
EDIT: Looks like you just flash it the same way you flash a ROM. Will I need to delete everything on the device?

Awesome. If anyone knows of a clear walkthrough I would love the link but otherwise I will figure it out and see how it works.

Wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash kernel, reboot, profit
Clear enough?
I like to break stuff!
Like above^
1. Boot into recovery
2. Wipe:
- Cache
- Advanced > Dalvik Cache
3. Flash kernel ZIP
4. Reboot
Enjoy

Thank you, that was perfect. I did it, used the version at the top of the list linked above, and got the "your now running SavagedZen." Rebooted and everything appears to be fine. Kernal version says "[email protected] #1." I can test the battery life tomorrow, but now what? It seemed like there was going to be an options panel somewhere but I guess not?
Nope, no options menu. You can change the kernel settings under the CM performance setting. That's about it though. I'd leave it for now and see how it goes.

Down to 15% battery after 3hrs and 14 minutes…
One thing I am wondering about. In the past I always just left 4g on because most of the time I am on wifi and so the 4G would just switch off while the wifi was active. Perhaps cyanogen isn't doing a good job managing that and i need to be turning 4G on and off manually?

Yup. That is definitely the culprit. Turn on 4G and it completely kills the battery. Turn it off and it's fine (probably better than it ever was at this point). So WTF is up with that? Is wimax just unusable with CM7?
definitely turn off 4g, it's a big drain when searching for networks. if the kernel you're switching to has voltage or overclocking controls you can look into playing with that. also if the battery is coming close to 2 years old you may wanna replace it for 10 bucks at amazon and get a 1700mah.

It's hard to complain since it's not like I paid anything for CM7 and it is pretty much awesome in every other way. Here goes though… the great thing about cyanogenmod is that it is pretty much the same level of quality you can expect from the original ROM except, better. It's not a hack. Everything works as it should. So I am surprised that this was never fixed. The phone doesn't suck battery life like that with the original ROM, from HTC, when 4G is on so it's clearly not a hardware issue. Seems crazy to me that this was considered done. That said, there is no way I am going back to stock so I guess 4G pretty much just goes away. Kind of lame.
