Zune background image

Hi,
On the zune software on the PC is autodownloads an artists picture for the background for all of your music, whether it was bought on zune or not.
On the phone it only seems to do this for stuff bought or streamed on zune, is there anyway to change this?

My phone shows images for some things not downloaded from the Marketplace. It may be it cannot find an image for the non-Zune music you are trying, or that the linking metadata is broken in some way.
if you've got the meta data on ok and played it through zune it should have updated the track etc, you will see some hidden JPG files in you MP3 folder where the songs are you have played. If there isn't any there, on the zune playlist you'll see an circled I next to the love heart, click that and it should find the song and update also. If it still doesnt update then its a meta/info problem your having.
I've updated the metadata of most files on the phone right now with the Zune software, and I've still the black background in Zune on the phone.
check settings/metadata and ratings on the pc zune and make sure the automatic retreival options is on (2nd tick box and add missing info). If your playing a tune from your playlist you can right click it, view in collection then right click the grayed zune albumn icon, click find albumn info and pick its picture etc, next, ok. Back in the playlist you'll have a full pic now. Sync it back to your phone or drag a test tune onto the phone icon and you should have it sorted now.
I will try the heart thing... All of these track have no problem getting the pictures automatically on the pc. Its just the phone it doesn't do it on
I have the album art appearing but the artist background picture is not showing. The Zune player on the phone shows a black background behind the small album art image. The hub background is also black and the live tile on the homescreen shows the default Zune icon. All the metadata is available.
What do I need to do to get the artist image to appear in the background?
apparently i also face the same problem .
i'm from singapore, where zune pass is not supported.
i am able to see the album art while playing a song on my optimus but the general background of the zune hub is black .
and i dun get the option to find out more about the artist and watsoever.
i believe its due the to fact that i dun have a zune pass .
background & live tile
The background and live tile only updates when you stream songs from Zune.
I don't have Zune pass but when previewed a track it updated the background and tile and hasn't changed since.

Not having Zune Pass is not the cause of it. The background images can appear regardless of whether you have Zune Pass or not.
In order for the photos/info to be downloaded, your music needs to be tagged properly and correctly. You can see if this is done by playing the music on your computer. If you can see photos and additional artist information on the computer, your music is tagged properly.
You won't get background images/info if your music is not tagged correctly, or if the artist does not have additional photos or information available in the Zune Marketplace. Try searching for your artist in the Zune Marketplace to make sure there is information to be displayed.

The syncing of the artist info/photos is done automatically. There is nothing you can do to force it to sync this information. With the Zune HD, you would have to leave the device plugged in, and the Zune software will eventually sync the information after it's done syncing all your other information.
Try leaving your phone plugged into your computer (with the Zune software open) for about 10 minutes and see if that helps.
What you say is how I understand it to work but its not working like that.
On the phone all my music has album art, but I couldnt get the band background picture to appear unless it was streamed from zune, even if it displayed on the PC.
However its also definetly not down to the fact it needs to be streamed from zune, but I have been playing alot of music on my phone today and I did find one artist that got the background image, and those songs were not purchased on zune.
Found the problem, not sure how to fix it though.
But I have just looked on my Zune on the PC and it isnt doing the background image on those tracks anymore either! However if I change my PC region to US and log in with the US account I had set up before Zune was in the UK it works fine again.
So it seems to be a UK only issue
Mine has slowly started working. It's weird but the phone has over the past day slowly started downloading background images for some artists, it seems once it has found one from one track it updates all tracks from the artist.
It doesn't seem to work very well in the actual zune player when showing now playing though
You could try using the Zune Social Tagger to force some some albums to link correctly, that's what I did for some things and it seems to work. Anything downloaded though the marketplace is linked anyway so that will display an image if there is one. The selection of albums and artists with background images is smaller in the UK than the US so it might not always work.
Just using the social tagger, interestingly one of the songs I bought on the marketplace on my phone has come up as unlinked on the social tagger!
I will see if this fixes it, hopefully it will.
Why does the UK have a different ammount of background pictures, that just seems silly, the bands are the same bands across the world.
cant imagine why it would be country dependant so can't see that, i'm in the UK without a zune premium pass and its all working fine for me. If in doubt wipe your phone and resync, maybe there is something from an old file stopping something or a bug. Whether its automatic or picture picked from the manual method can't say I've seen a problem (windows 7, zune, mozart 7).

I believe I have found the reason why you and I are having the same issue. The location our Live, Zune and computer is Singapore. The Zune software (Singapore location) shows a stripped down version of what you get if you set US location. I have another live and Zune tag ID located in US and when I logged into that account I am able to see the artist background picture in the Zune mini-player on the PC. I guess since Singapore does not have Zune pass, we will be missing out on all the extras (mix-view, etc)
Haven't tested trying to sync with the phone using the US based account.
Anyone know whether the phone supports 2 separate Live ID accounts?

At least in your country, you get results when searching the Zune Marketplace for music.
In Belgium, any query results 0 results. I assume that the client searching on its own for stuff doesn't get anything returned either, due to the country limitation. We get video rentals, that's about it. For me, apps don't even show, altho it works fine with the same account on the phone.
I can confirm how to get it working (at least in the UK) this works for songs on the phone only I haven't tested it in zune player yet.
Once you've listened to one piece of music by that artist which contains the data for the background image, the device seems to remember this and display it if you play the same artist, regardless of the song.
So you have 2 options:
1) If you have zune pass, stream a song by the same artist for a few seconds, now all music in your collection by that artist will show the bg image.
2) Find a song by the artist in your collection that does carry the bg image (I think it has something to do with tagging) and the rest will update.
Update: You don't even need to play a song, press on the artist name when your own song is playing, it'll load the artist page with a background image. Press back and it's updated.
Edit (sorry about this): You need to click on the button to show the marketplace songs, rather than just showing your collection.
Having the Zune pass is imperative to getting this, I'm in Australia and get no search results if I search for music and also get no bio or pictures. I feel this fully relates to having Zune Pass available in your country.

Spotify on 4G/ICS?

I installed Spotify on my Nexus today and whenever I try to listen to a song I just get a "INFO" box that is blank. I checked the settings and it's configured to sync over 3G and Wifi, but not 4G. Could that be an issue?
This is the first time using spotify so im not sure if thats a new issue or if I misconfigured
turn 4g of on your phone and try again.
it should work fine, the app is ICS compatible

how do I turn off 4G, and why dont they make it work on 4G =D
I would uninstall and reinstall the spotify app. I play music over 4g all the time. The syncing options are for syncing your playlists offline so they don't effect how your stream music.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
+1 for reinstalling Spotify.
That did it for me
Is it possible to do this:
Tag a song I hear in the car with Shazam
Use the option to listen in spotify
download the song to my phone over spotify
set the download directory to my google music folder so it automatically syncs with my home pc?
When you download music in spotify, you don't actually get an mp3...spotify keeps it separate so that it's available to listen to offline through spotify, but isn't available to distribute (anti-piracy measures). It's also how they assure you keep paying for spotify (you can't keep an offline song for more than 30 days without "checking in" to spotify by going online.
that sucks! Any good apps to actually pull down the mp3?
Random Reboots?
Has anyone else experienced random reboots while listening to Spotify?
I have synced a large number of playlists for offline play (over 4G), but now almost half the time I am using Spotify my GNex does a reboot at some point while listening to Spotify music.
I haven't verified if this issue deals with local (non streamed) music in general, because I only have a handful of local MP3s stored on the phone (was planning on using Spotify for most of my music needs). To be clear, this is not a streaming issue - all of the tracks and playlists I am listening to have already been synced to the phone.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?
Am I the only one experiencing this . . . ?

This whole post is kind of nonsensical because you don't have access to the Spotify music as an mp3 and there's no such concept as setting a "download directory" in Spotify. As well, Google Music on your phone won't ever upload music to sync with the cloud. The only music that gets synced/uploaded to the cloud is through the Music Manager application on your desktop computer. The Google Music app is simply for accessing / playing the music / making them available offline.

I didnt realize you cant save the mp3s,i guess if i could i could "save" them to my dropbox account which would sync them to my own desktop. I was hoping to be able to hear a song in the car, tag it with shazam, download and have it on my home computer. Ah well

[Q] Google Music Sync

I apologize if this has been answered already, but I couldn't find anything about it. I have all of my music from iTunes synced with Google Music, which I can listen to on my phone. Anything new I add to iTunes will automatically be synced into Google Music, and that's great. But I would like the reverse to be applicable as well. I want the music I download on my phone from various websites and apps to be synced to Google Music, so when I log into Google Music on my laptop, the songs I downloaded on my phone will show up there (the website). Is there any way to make this possible? The music I downloaded from my phone will show up in the Google Music App on my phone, but it apparently doesn't sync it to the Google Music servers. I've tried many things, such as making the songs "available offline," but to no avail. Is this just impossible to do? Do I need to put the music in some sort of folder so that it will be synced with Google Music servers? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Ah, I see. Well thanks for enlightening me.
I'm not sure how much music you're downloading, but you can probably try to automate it as much as possible using Dropbox. Trying to find something similar brought me to this link: lifehacker.com/5501200/how-to-automatically-sync-any-song-you-download-to-itunes. From there you can continue to automatically sync to Google Music. It seems a bit convoluted, but once it's set up, it may suit your needs.

Wow. This is really interesting and great! Although it would take a little effort to find all my music on my SD card and then upload that to my dropbox, and then have it sync to iTunes, it might be worth it. Also, this might create duplicates in the Google Music app on my phone (i.e. Google Music recognizes new music in iTunes, uploads it to the server, and now on my phone app, it has that particular song on SD card and Google Music servers). But nevertheless, thanks!

[Q] Offline Music - No music copied to SW3

Hello.
I'm trying to listen to offline music with my Smartwatch 3. I have configured Google Play Music to download music to Android Wear, but when I start the player in the watch it states "no music available....".
I have a lot of music stored in the phone which can be played from Google Play Music, but it doesn't get copied to the watch. All the tracks are stored in the microUSB, none of them have been downloaded from google.
Any idea of how to get music into the watch?
Thanks.

On a separate issue, does anyone know how to start Google Play Music from their watch to their phone?
I was out running the other day with both watch and phone. I clicked on GPM on my SW but it said no music downloaded to watch. In the end I had to get my phone out to start GPM so I could control it. Does anyone know of any 3rd party app that would solve this?
Thanks, I had already tried it but didn't work for me. Perhaps offline music only works with downloaded music, not with music directly stored on the phone.
Regarding to your question, if I understood correctly, you want to start from your watch Play Music on the phone. If you select on your watch "Start->Play Music" it will try to play offline music, but if you select "Play Music" on the first level menú (without selecting Start), it will open Play Music on your phone and start playing the last song.
Regards.

Get wear mini launcher - it is perfect for this watch! swipe to the left and select the app to run
two important details before transfering music to watch:
1.- Do it with battery level 70% or more in the watch. The transfer fails with low battery.
2.- You must have in the phone less than 4Gb of downloaded music. If you have more music downloaded to your phone than the storage of the watch, the transfer will fail too.
I know. If you have a lot of music in your phone for offline playback this is a mess...

Thanks, but when you say downloaded, you mean downloaded from google play music only? The music which has been directly copied and stored in the microsd/memory of the phone is never going to be transferred to the watch?
Regards.
Exactly, the music must be in the cloud first. Remember you can store 20.000 mp3 for free in Google play music.
The path that works:
Before to send to watch, the music has to be downloaded from Google music account (from the cloud, meaning music from premium service or your own mp3 previously uploaded to Google music) to your phone for offline playback.
So first upload to Google music your own mp3 (if you are not premium), then download to your phone (to internal or external memory) and when you're done select download to wear.
The transfer to watch is very very slow, but it works fine if you do it that way.

Understood. Thanks a lot. What a great idea from Google, upload tracks to the cloud and then download again to the phone. They really want our info in the cloud...
Yeah that's the Google "price" to use their services. 20.000 tracks to upload for free is a very decent proposal.
I can't wait for another app that will allow the simple transfer of music to the watch without having to jump through bunches of hoops. It is bound to be available very soon.

I found a reference in the online manual for the SW3 that Sony intends to use the walkman app for that as well, in addition to Google Music. Even better: according to the manual you should get sync per playlist. Also, it would sync via the tracks stored on the device (or so it seems). Alas, my current version of Walkman does not contain this functionality, so this reeks of a bit of a botched launch...
see here: http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/swr50/userguide/Music/
Or does this work for anyone?
There are new instructions on how you can dictate certain playlists to dowload onto the watch. When the music is being transferred, you want to go into your phone and go to downloads and uncheck the playlists that you do not want at this step. Can the USB port be used for other reasons besides being a charging port? It would really be nice to be able to just load it that way rather than bluetooth. I am hoping the walkman app gets an update to play music on the watch.
Just found out that a new version of the walkman app is being released which brings the functionality alluded to in the manual of the SW3. Didn't receive it yet on my Xperia Z1 yet, so couldn't test it.
Source: http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/11/26/walkman-app-update-8-5-a-0-6-brings-android-wear-support/
¡Yes! This one works. Tested on my Galaxy S4, it installs a "Walkman" component in the SW3. You can select in the phone which playlists you want to download to the watch, and then play them form the SW3.
Thanks.

New Walkman app: tested on Xperia Z1 Compact (+ SW3 of course) - works fine - as advertised. Dissapointing are the long transfer times, but it is obvious BT limitation. Hope that some future AW updated will enable Wifi funcionality, which will be used then for the music transfer purpose.

I think it is not correct (in current version of Google Music). I use Google Play Music without uploading anything to the cloud (I actually disabled Play Market in settings). I just copy all my tracks to my phone internal memory, and I'm able to synchronize all my tracks with the smart watch and listen them in off-line mode. No uploading to Google.
You need patience when you copy your music from the mobile phone to your watch - it is very slow, and it's better to connect the power adaptor (it requires 70% battery, otherwise it won't transfer files).

Downloading music to watch after update HELP!!!

I just purchased this watch yesterday and have been trying to download music to with no luck. I never used the watch before the update so I don't know what it was like before but I tried going through the Google music application on my phone and have the add music to wear setting checked but there's nothing on there. Then I tried selecting music straight from the watch to sync and selected a bunch of songs and now I don't know if it's working.
Have you selected some songs to copy to the watch in the Google music app? The "add music to wear" setting alone is not enough.
I finally got some songs on it. I didn't realize how complicated and non intuitive the process was going to be. I just came from a Samsung gear s2 and it was so simple to add music. None of the music I had saved s on my phone already was transferring, just new music I re-downloaded from the Google play store.
I'm using WearMedia from Playstore to copy and play my music mp3s on the watch (stand alone)! Very cool

Not only new music. As I stated before, you can select songs to be copied on the watch, but you have to select them. Not all of your songs will be copied to your watch.
