No offense but there are some weird looking themes in this thread. The old ass non-modern look of most of these themes is killing me. Those themes were made to be made in the 1990's when wolves were cool to have on posters. Here is one from the Vibrant forum that exemplifies more of a modern minimalistic look.

Not to be rude either but I want to point out that you just insulted all of the themers in our forum and then immediately followed that up with a request. You maybe waiting a bit for your request to be fulfilled.
I agree that talkin smack isn't going to take u places, especially when the people you are requesting make this theme do it for free..
Additionally, that theme is not what I would call minimalist.. its orange, with some weird looking stringy aosp style lock screen.. if u want orange I would suggest u try the latest viperrom.. t_phllips did a great job with it and its not far from that theme..
If u want what I would call minimalist, flash the theme by maddoggin.. purchase adw launcher ex and use the 'minimalist' adw theme. The result is pure black and whites

I'm 50/50 with you on this. While most of the themes I've seen available for, not just the Epic, but most phones in general, are very dated and, simply put, ugly/tacky as hell, the one you suggested is not much better. It's a poor example of what really is modern, sheek and minimalistic.
The only difference is I have the skill set to create something for myself, and myself only. If you came here to bash the others, you should probably learn the skills required to satisfy your own needs. With your attitude, there is no motivation for anyone to do you any favors.
For a truly good example of modern and minimalistic, you should refer to Watermoore's screenshots in the screenshot thread.

I understand your statement above. For one I do not have a creative bone in my body. But I am willing to take whatever instruction from someone who can think with the left side of the brain. For a person who can only think from a logic stand point I wllling to listen to whatever input you may offer, just post your request and lets see what happens from there.

I agree with you also. Nice shot at me tho . I work on cars for a living and I love the look of black and chrome. There's a bunch of ideas got themes I got in my vault but don't have the time between working on my only theme that Is public to helping other themers, working on mods, and working on a rom. I do all this in my spate time between 60 hour work weeks and 4 kids.
I didn't build my theme for you or anyone else on xda. I built it for my self and decided I would share. I'm sure this is why other themers made and released there themes to the public.
I have the ability to blow tort mind away. I just don't got the time. If you don't like the work that's available then move on. Sitting here and disrespecting the devs then asking for something to be done in your favor is just asinine.

I agree with the OP 100% , it would be nice to get some more variety in the clean / modern styled themes.
LoL sorry guys I didn't mean to belittle your work either. If we had a bunch of beautiful themes in this forum we probably wouldn't have the brilliant roms that we do. And most of us totally get that this is just people sharing their personal stuff with the rest of the forum.
For the record, I'm a designer by trade, so this kind of stuff is always super-present on my mind. But - I can't wrap my head around the masses of code that some of you look at on a daily basis. I'm also an artsy pretentious asshole . I mean I will pass on an app in the market if it has a crappy icon, for christ's sake.
Anyway, people like me who are super picky still have options like the Gingerbread theme.
EDIT: This thread has inspired me to look into the theming process. I think I'll read up one the (awesome) tutorial thread this weekend. I've done a lot of skinning for other UIs in the past so it shouldn't take me too long to pick up. As soon as I can, I'll make a thread for requests and will attempt to prioritize what people want, as well as my own scrutiny of course. This is kind of the off-season for design work anyway so I need something to keep me busy

Everyone said once we had source for froyo we would have all these amazing roms and kernels. So where are they at? We have 4 custom roms which only 2 are fully functional and 1 oc kernel.I'm only counting the ones that have eb13 files. Its been a week how much longer do they need?

I notice that a couple of my favorite people(devs) from my original Epic read and posted here. I always thank you when I borrow your work on the dev threads but just so you know, I too very much appreciate your efforts and sometimes thick skin
I've owned a lot of devices and there have been some with little to no support...even some with no root. Since the first day I started watching these forums I was impressed with the developers and the work being done. Since buying the phone they only continue to impress me.

We have some devs that come from epic4g and there wasn't much of a learning curve for them ... Then we have some devs that came from htc and this phone is really nothing like a htc ....there is a big learning curve there ....
Aosp is totally a different beast also ... The learning curve is alot bigger on ics vs gingerbread... With all the new back smalli junk in the rom... This is one reason ics is alot harder to deal with . It is nothing like the roms to date. Well if people don't respect what the devs do. Install ubuntu in windows , get android kitchen and try to make your own rom .... You will then have much respect for the work they give us ..

That was chris41g (above) and it was pretty slick of him. I think it is beyond pitiful for people to complain about all of the unpaid work that goes on in these and other forums.
Chris is the man. He doesn't even own the phone and yet somehow puts up with a bunch of **** and keeps chugging away making our lives better.

We have a lot of good themers in this section and was wondering if everyone was interested in creating a community theme. We would need to decide on a theme to start with, then divide up the different parts of the themeing. Then we would need people to port to all the roms. Anyone interested.

Exactly vote on a color scheme for the framework and then have different themers develop different dialers, keyboards, and other apps that can be flashed separately to the liking of the community giving everyone different options.

On another note, we barely have any original themes. Most of them here are ports, its easy to drag images from one theme to another. I'm just saying it needs to be a lil more original around here

Most may start out as just porters but then move on. I'm willing to help anyone who wants to learn its very easy. Just takes a computer and an imagination. M&S made some great tutorial videos and its even simpler than that.

Nice glad to see some interest. I just feel like when i am doing a theme by myself i get one sided, and i lose focus . I think with more ideas from different people it will make the theme even better.

I completely agree with this. The ports are ported for a reason since they were so complete and established over on the I9100 forums. Themes like Sensation and Black hole are too fine to not port. Which I love btw.
Keep doing what you're doing man, the more ports there are, the better options for us users and ideas themers can take with their own themes.

I'm getting sick and tired of people disrespecting our developers and themers we have in our community. If you don't like what they do or how they do it, then sell your device and keep it moving. This is not their job, it isn't their means of income, so they aren't obligated to keep you posted on updates or follow your request. If you donate to them understand that it's a donation and not payment for services. We should be grateful for them and the things that they do for our devices. Your 2 cents are not needed in their threads, so leave them be if you don't like what they do. If you do have some advice for them, make sure you don't come off being a **** about it. We need to more respectable towards these people who take time out of their lives to do what they enjoy to and they are kind enough to share it with us. To all the developers and themers, thank you so much for all your hard work, time, and effort that you put towards your work.

Not only that but imagine, some people who want to develop themes or roms and see all the flaming. Now they don't want to contribute because they don't want to be scrutinized for their free work. Where is the moderation in these forums?
How does a place the size of XDA plan to continue when every last thread is ****ted up with troll bull**** and not a thing is done to stop it?
I've administrated/moderated forums in the past and any forum is only as good as the moderation it has. There will always be trolls posting garbage all over the place. That's the nature of the internet; but the level of moderation will determine whether the forum is a constructive place to be with a positive atmosphere our a steaming ****pile.
No one wants their opinions or ideas censored or stifled. That's not the point of moderation. But we need to get rid of the **** posts and the people who post them.
When you have a group of people posting for the sole purpose of pissing others off to a point that developers are leaving, someone needs to step in.

Long story short, you people leech off society and can't even acknowledge people are doing something worthwhile for free. The entire planet would be much better off without your presence ever being known. Just unplug your internet now. Play the sims, get a sock and some Vaseline if you have social needs. Well, I think the guy is KillaHurtz. There is many evidence, but saying it would make me sound like a stalker . If I do get banned like he says I will, keep in mind that Thomas Montano a.k.a killahurtz is the reason you will not see wp7, FrozenGB, and possibly AOSP ics. Sorry android community. I'm to hot headed to deal with this.

I'm pretty sure he left because 1: he was burnt out 2: he was sick of the entitleist (yeah pretty sure I made up a word) children running around in this forum not reading before they post and thinking they are owed the world. For all those children please read my sig. TDJ was a great Dec that, like others, got driven out by all the kids whose mom bought them a cool new phone and decided to do things with it they probably never should have without some basic knowledge of Linux or android for that matter and expect everyone else to hold their hand through it when they screw it up or think they did simply because they don't really know what's going on in their phone in the first place.
It makes me mad. Nuff said.

Actually I think he left because of some inter-dev relations behind the scene. He left a pretty lengthy explanation as to why he's done. I didnt quite start this thread for this discussion though. So if a mod feels up to it, please close and delete this thread.

I'm still using his last rom release. The most smooth and battery efficient rom I have used on the SGSII. I work 12 hour shifts and use my phone heavily. Unplug it at 4a.m. and when I go to plug it back in at 9:00p.m I still normally have at least 20% battery left.

This. All you have to do is research the forum has a "find all posts by" then look for tdj s posts.

The more you become involved with xda, the more you wish you never did. At least for me anyways. There is no consistency here. The things I see I can't stand to bare anymore. Xda handing out RD status to people that don't deserve it or even understand wtf they're doing. Its all just nonsense. Everything I do from here on out will be strictly for myself. I am all set with this glorified children's playground. Android is supposed to be a community not a competition. A lot of these so called "devs" feel like they need to prove something to the world. This s**t ain't dungeons and dragons, its code hacking with expensive devices. And people wonder why manufactures won't warranty rooted devices...

Thanks for coming back to clear it up ,I feel you, and I see your point more and more. Sad to see another kernel level dev leave for sure, as kernel devs are becoming a smaller percentage of devs although the number of "devs" is increasing.

Unfortunate for me something messed my sd card up and now i domt have a copy of his rom and kernal. I have been on jugs was planning on trying derek latest. Warfare wasy first flash on my gs2. i understand im hoping he will end up like eugene come in drop something wait a while and drop something else. Seem like less is more

i COMPLETELY agree.. I've been around XDA for years, and I've seen people, moderators, and devs come an go. The rom that thederekjay has skillfully made and optimized for our precious SGS2s is a complete ROM. Really, how can there be any more development on something that can't be made better?
I'll tell you folks. Whenever or wherever Mr. thederekjay shows up.. I'll respectfully consider anything he places his hands on is a work of art.
I hope when ICS drops, i'll be the first one in line for what he has to offer, whether it's on XDA or anywhere else.

He does good work. Superwipe is a part of making ICS flashes not be buggy. Look at the instructions.
