1800PocketPC.com WP7 App [Dev Thread] Need some help please. Pretty please. - Windows Phone 7 Software Development

So, Ive made the app for 1800PocketPC & thought I would make a thread about its development,
mostly because I need a bit of help from those with greater knowledge than me
Saijo (the owner of the site) has already made a thread about it over here CLICKY.
There is also a page on my website about it here: CLICKY
Features:
Displays the latest article from your chosen feed on the homepage.
Shows feeds from these different areas:
- News
- App Reviews
- Game Reviews
- General games news
- Free games news
- Xbox Live games news
Displays articles in a mobile friendly way.
Gives you the opportunity to contact the site or the developer (me).
Due to the youtube plugin not working in 3rd party apps, links to the
mobile youtube page are dynamically added to the menu.
The same applies to marketplace links, which would not open strait
from 3rd party apps, links are dynamically added to the menu instead.
You can view & add comments posted on any article.
There is landscape support throughout all but 1 part of the app.
You can also get achievements!
You can download the current version here:
Or you can like it on Facebook here CLICKY
Im currently working on the next major build, which will add:
Twitter & Facebook integration.
Overall UI improvements.
A better mobile reading experience.
Full portrait/landscape support.
Location based advertising off by default.
Now, what I need is help with at the moment is facebook & twitter.
I found a brilliant tut here & I transplanted some of the code from there, so It can now share articles to facebook.
My problems are these:
I don't know how to post to twitter.
I don't know how to get & display all posts from someone's facebook wall (namely the bestwp7games & 1800pocketpc pages)
I don't know how to get & display all posts from someone's twitter account :/
So yeah, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Google hath fail'd me

Being as polite as possible, you need to search. If you ask questions like "how do I ..." you're not really progressing as a developer, as the two services you mentioned have amazingly detailed and well-defined APIs.
I will point you to the kind of Google queries I use to find these answers, that way you can keep developing without wasting time waiting for other people to answer:
Twitter: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=update+twitter+status+c#
FB Wall Posts: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...ebook+wall+posts+c#&pbx=1&fp=b0dc1443d535784d
Recent Tweets: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&pbx=1&fp=b0dc1443d535784d

Thanks. You're right, I probably should have searched more.
I was a bit afraid Id find something & try working with it only to find it didnt work with WindowsPhone :/

[Request] make XDA-Developers like the iPhone Installer

Hi all, i don't know if it has been asked already but it would be great to have a light black&white forum "Development and Hacking" easy to load and browse from our PPCs/SPs exactly like the iPhone's app called Installer... ok, without all the "sources/install/uninstall" thing, only app name (with very short description like the one we can see if we mouseover a topic's name) and, clicking on it, the author description, link to the Dev&Hack forum article, link to the download, little screenshot or animated gif. And a tiny search engine (no Google)
I know there are websites made like that already like freewareppc or softonic which use RSS, but i was thinking about a more Installer-like webApp.
http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=j7rfU4r3Y-0
.. but there's probably something like that already, so i ask you guys and gals where can i find such a service and if you think it would be nice or totally useless
TBH this would take ages to compile and program and with every different model of HTC h/set out there I dont think anyone would have the resources or time to do this. I do really like the idea though kudos for that
Why not look at the App To Date over at MoDaCo?
livefastdiefun87, i don't think it should be that difficult to filter the threads (for example a "[release]" string in the thread title) as links to their first posts (the ones with descriptions, screenshots and downloads) to the user (maybe it's enough for the releaser to keep an eye on the format). For example A_C's releases already have the "required" things (first post: description and download, second post: faqs).
With a little help from any developer i think that even with pocket ie (although a client would be better) we can retrieve every release easier. Then, in order to explore the apps, the user can jump to the ordinary forum.
Maybe i'm making it too simple, but it wont be bad anyway. I'm thinking about a mobile-only road, no ads, no banners, black and white with hypertext

Image Sizes and Costs

I downloaded somewhere some image sizes - below are two. I am not too sure which one I downloaded these for / from. But can these icon information be used for Windows Mobile 7, Android, and iPad / iPhone?
From what I think I remember speaking with one developer helping him with testing his game, I think he said it was $99.00 a year for 100 applications. If I only wanted to submit one (free) application, would it be better to find someone that already has the feature to develop this application? The application is very small - mainly to read one specific RSS feed.
Hey
the developer account costs are not connected to the image license price. If you want to submit a WP7 app to the marketplace, you have to own a developer account, that costs $99/year. But this price does not grant the permission to use these pictures. You have to ask the creator whether you're allowed to use them.
Regards
Chris
Thanks - sorry I did not mean to imply I would use these images, I just did not know if it was these image (sizes / quality) that was needed.
If the developer has an account though and he develops the app that I need, can he use that account to upload the app?
Hey
For the licensing procedure and requirements you should visit this link:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh184843(v=VS.92).aspx
But I don't get your question. If you're asking wheter you could have another developer programming and submitting the application you need the answer is yes. Every developer that has an account can send apps in. You just have to find someone that wants to create your application. Another possibility would be to program your app yourself and send the compiled version to a developer, so that he can pass it to the WP marketplace...
Regards
Chris
If you need an app built for something easy like an RSS feed, check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941248
it discusses a build your own app website.
http://thirdlabs.com/
I have never used it and have no afiliation with the site, but it looks easy enough...
Anywho, once the app is made, you can
sideload it (if you're unlocked)
pay for a dev account and submit it ($99 a year)
try to get a free student account and submit it (see here )
find someone with a dev account that will submit it for you
good luck
Thanks for the links! I have run into the RSS feed link - but it was not that site.
Yes, Chris - that answers that question. I thought as much but wanted to make sure. (Sorry it is difficult for me to sometimes get my point across due to my health).

Looking for bèta-testers for my first app!

Hi fellow developers
I recently made a WP7 application. The app is just a very basic browser (it doesn't even have a history or favorites system yet), and I would like some bèta-testers for it, since I will be adding more features such as the ones mentioned above, maybe themes and many more! (the app won't be available in the Market, only Bazaar and similar )
Everyone is free to use this, but please let me know of any bugs/errors and requests/tips for future (non-bèta) versions!
The link:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kds3rl5zinsi7s6
(woops, I put this thread in the wrong forum, can an admin move this to development please?)
I'm testing it!! So far everything's good
Thanks! I'm going to release an improved version of the browser in the next few weeks, with history, favorites, a homepage and stuff like that

[Android][Free] An app that displays current top articles from the internet

Hi! We have published a new app and would appreciate some honest feedback info below.
App store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vi.newsoi.reader
About the app:
We have started to implement an app that evaluates how read-worthy different articles in the internet are. First we made a webapp that displays the current best articles and now have published also an app that displays the article feed for that webpage.
About the algorithm:
Some of the metrics used to evaluate an article are for example how topical the article is, how trending it is and how readable, coherent or objective the article is. These metrics we are the most confident in and of course we do not want to give the full algorithm available.
Future plans:
This is really much a work in progress and suggestions for future development are very welcome. For example now it is possible only to see random top ranked articles. Of course the idea is to make it categorize the articles and then you can browse the articles by categories (sports, world news etc.). Also allowing the user to add their own sources, for example blogs and other text based sources.

XDA Forum RSS Usage/Policy

Some of you have noticed that our RSS feeds have been offline for a while. We were receiving a lot of traffic/abuse from IPs clearly scraping our content, and then using this content on their own sites in order to Google-jack search terms. That, in combination with the declining popularity of RSS, made us re-evaluate the use of RSS on the forum in general.
I've enabled the RSS feed again for those users who browse XDA via RSS but with some restrictions - namely we've put a request limit on how fast you may access different RSS feeds; as well as requiring that you be logged in to get any RSS feed.
There will likely be situations that come up that require access to data in a machine-readable way - we recommend using our API at https://api.xda-developers.com/explorer/ in order to obtain this data. If you need assistance in this, please feel free to pm me directly. This is the future of programatically accessing XDA's forum content.
We may disable the RSS feed entirely in the future depending on usage statistics.

Thanks for the explanation, I'm still using RSS and I haven't been able to use the old RSS feeds for the sections I want which I created some time ago (eg. https://forum.xda-developers.com/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=524 or https://forum.xda-developers.com/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=5340) in Feedly as I used to do last year. Is there any chance those will start working again? Right now the only one still working is the general news feed.
EDIT: reference - https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/about-xda/xda-rss-feeds-broken-t3490031
Any follow-up on this? I would also like to follow specific forum topics via RSS (currently using Newsblur).
//timo
would like to follow new quotes/messages via rss
I was almost ready to write a new thread regarding this very topic. I am also interested in RSS and I would be better informed about what's happening around here, following more threads.
Will this ever work again?
Thanks!
It would be nice if somebody posted an FAQ for this...and made it sticky. I personally feel the feeds should be enabled for a thread and not for a topic.
Just my thoughts....
does anyone know how to get rss feed for a specific device forum? so that i will know if a new thread gets created for my device?
